But as some of us grow tired of going to the same ol’ places over and over again and others try to avoid the insane tourist crowds at some of those all-time favorite hubs, there’s one destination with surprisingly untouched beaches that emerges as the region’s trendiest hotspot.

Paradise Island in the Bahamas welcomed close to 1.9 million visitors in the first four months of 2024 alone, which not only marks a 13.2% increase from the same time last year but also lets us know that an even more successful summer season lies ahead.

But what is it about this place that sets it apart from so many other Caribbean gems of its kind?

Some Of The Caribbean’s Most Incredible Beaches

I know, I know – all Caribbean beaches are postcard-worthy, but it’s about time we accepted that some are simply more impressive than others.

You’ll see what I’m talking about as soon as you set foot on Paradise Island and catch a glimpse of the pristine white sand and translucent-looking waters.

While you could argue that the entire island is one big beach you won’t be able to get enough of, there are actually a couple of places that might be worth a visit more than others.

My personal top picks would be Cabbage, Paradise, and Colonial Beach – all different enough so that you don’t feel bored, but similar in what really matters – to-die-for views and the best waters you’ve ever swam in.

Flying To This Actual Paradise Has Never Been Easier

When people named this place, they weren’t kidding – it’s an actual real-life paradise!

And now, you can just hop on just about any plane and take it all in, thanks to the many airlines that have come out these past couple of years with new exciting routes to the Bahamian gem – well, to Nassau, but Paradise Island is just an 18-minute drive away from the Bahamian capital, so all the same.

Even budget-friendly carriers like Southwest and Jetblue have thrown their hats in the ring, making the once mysterious island reachable only by a lucky few more accessible than ever.

Not only have these companies helped expand scheduling opportunities, but they’ve also had a noticeable impact in lowering airfare prices from competitor airlines, too – as we speak, some tickets are priced at a little over $200.

Here, You’ll Find Everything From Budget-Friendly Stays To Indulgent All-Inclusive Resorts

I want to preface this by saying that there aren’t any really cheap hotels in Paradise Island, at least not ones widely available to the public, so the use of “budget-friendly” here is a bit subjective.

For example, one of the best lower-cost stays on the island is Comfort Suites, whose rooms start at $370 per night.

Still, consider the fact that these are all big-ish resorts where you pay for more than just your stay, it all balances itself out; and when it comes to iconic places like the Atlantis Paradise you pay for the service and overall atmosphere, too.

The good news is that if your budget doesn’t allow for any of that, you can always book something cheaper ($80-$120 a night) near Nassau and drive back and forth whenever you want to take advantage of Paradise Island’s unreal beaches – I guarantee it’ll be worth it.

A Surprisingly Lively Hub With Lots To Explore

At just 1.1 sq mi (2.8 km2), you’d expect Paradise Island to be a tree-filled piece of land when nothing really happens.

Luckily, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The island’s event calendar is jam-packed this summer, and depending on what you’re into, you can take your pick between culinary festivals, basketball matches, wine tastings, gallery openings, and monastery excursions.

However, if being among nature is your top priority this summer, Paradise Island is still a fantastic choice.

Go diving in the Blue Hole, take on kayaking, try a boat tour or fishing charter, or enjoy a scenic hike – the choice is yours.

That is both figuratively and literally the tip of the iceberg, as this massive park is just a fraction of a 25 million-acre World Heritage Site, which is one of the biggest protected natural areas in the world.

One glance at Glacier Bay makes it easy to see why it’s worthy of a bucket list. The park welcomed 703,659 visitors, and among the most common ways to visit is by cruise, a mega-popular method of seeing Alaska’s top natural wonders.

Although, it’s just as fun, if not more, to get up close and personal exploring the wild, remote land for the ultimate adventure.

There are no designated trails in the park, yet beaches, meadows and glacier-free areas are mostly walkable.

Klondike Gold Rush

Visitors trekking through the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park get a history lesson, all while enjoying the incredible sights and sounds of nature.

Throughout the park are remnants of its historical past as thousands of miners took part in an extensive gold rush well over a century ago.

Klondike, as we’ll call it, begins in the small charming town of Skagway home to about 1,000 locals and over 1 million annual visitors.

The park itself received 1.3 million visitors in 2023 to be exact. Although small in size, this town packs a punch with awesome attractions.

While it’s no epic European train, inarguably, the White Pass & Yukon Route doesn’t receive the attention this unbelievably stunning route deserves.

Parks Of The Northwest Arctic Borough

Even some of the least visited National Parks are seeing a surge and setting new records. The Northwest Arctic Borough is the perfect example of why some may see Alaska as a far flung destination.

While cities such as Fairbanks and Anchorage are relatively easy to reach, going off-path in Alaska is another story entirely.

But as the famous Ralph Waldo Emerson saying goes, “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey”.

Reaching the Northwest Arctic Borough can be a trek, but this stunning region of the state is home to a cluster of parks not often visited, yet visited enough last year to claim new records.

Kobuk National Park is only reachable by plane, giving these parks ultimate bucket list status. The other pair are Noatak National Preserve and Cape Krusenstern National Monument, reachable by plane or boat in the summer.

Compared to mega popular National Parks, like Yellowstone, the parks visitation numbers look low simply due to the fact they’re harder to reach.

Colombia is an incredible country of many contrasting realities, welcoming locals, and delicious regional delicacies.

Perhaps its only downside is how unsafe it can be compared to other South American states like Argentina or Chile.

It remains at Level 3 in the U.S. State Department Travel Advisory listings, which means Americans must reconsider visiting due to crime, and when doing so, they must exercise a higher degree of caution, particularly in large urban centers where violent acts are more frequent.

With that being said, a majority of travelers are not affected by crime, but in order to improve their safety, they often adhere to common safety guidelines, such as avoiding non-touristy suburban areas, not taking part in ‘slum tourism’ unless supervised, and keeping valuables at the hotel.

Florida is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the United States.

The Sunshine State saw a record-breaking 35.1 million tourists in the first nine months of 2023, and one destination in particular is trending right now.

Palm Beach County in South Florida just announced a new tourism record, welcoming 9.5 million tourists this year. Most of these visitors stayed in West Palm Beach, the largest town in the county.

Here’s why West Palm Beach is so popular with travelers right now:

Easier Than Ever To Get To

According to reports, travel to West Palm Beach was bolstered this year by growing airplane and train traffic.

Several airlines launched new flights to Palm Beach International Airport this year.

Delta Air Lines started service from White Plains, New York to PBI, while the low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines launched flights from Wilmington, Delaware to PBI.

These and other seasonal routes make it easy for travelers from other parts of the United States to get to sunny West Palm Beach, especially to escape the cold this winter.

Additionally, the long-awaited Brightline train from Miami to Orlando officially launched this year, connecting more travelers to West Palm Beach.

Previously, Brightline opened stations in West Palm Beach and Boca Raton, two towns in Palm Beach County, but now stations have also opened in Miami and Orlando.

West Palm Beach is just one hour and 15 minutes by train from Miami and two hours and 10 minutes from Orlando.

A More Laidback Alternative To Miami

Miami is known for being one of South Florida’s biggest hotspots, offering an incredible blend of great beaches, crazy nightlife, delicious food, and a vibrant arts and culture scene.

However, Miami is a major metropolis, whereas West Palm Beach is a smaller, more laidback town with about one-quarter the population of Miami.

It doesn’t have a world-famous resort strip home to all the popular brands in hospitality, like Cancun.

Its wellness scene is nowhere near as developed, if it is existing at all, as Los Cabos.

It does not even have a beach, like fellow Jalisco city Puerto Vallarta.

Yet, for some reason, Guadalajara is smashing tourism records in 2023, with international arrival figures up 18.3% against the already record-breaking 2022, which remains, to this date, Mexico’s best-performing year: so far this year, as many as 4.2 million foreign visitors have landed there.

This may have left some wondering what it is about this inland metropolis that is captivating a growing number of tourists.

Here are 5 reasons why:

Incredibly Historical

Though it is a poorly-disseminated fact among Americans, Guadalajara is, in fact, one of the cultural capitals of Mexico, with a historical relevance comparable to that of Mexico City, having been founded as early as 1532 and having played a key role in the Mexican War of Independence.

It’s here where the country’s first revolutionary government convened, and throughout its History, Guadalajara has hosted migrants not only from Spain, but all over Europe and further afield, drawn to its 18th-century development boom, and they have left a profound mark on the city.

This is evidenced in a diverse demographic, mixed-origin cuisine, and inestimable cultural wealth, offering culture seekers plenty to sample and marvel at, especially if lounging by a pool all week is not their idea of fun.

Beautiful Architecture

With its accumulated centuries of History, it goes without saying Guadalajara has a plethora of landmarks, some of which rank among the most iconic in Mexico: think Guadalajara Cathedral, an imposing 16th-century Catholic effort, or Hospicio Cabañas.

Guadalajara’s number one point of interest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cabañas once housed one of the largest orphanages and hospitals in the Americas; still, it is only the tip of a monumental iceberg, as it only takes a short stroll around the historic center to be awe-struck.

In Guadalajara, on the other hand, as it does not sit on the overdeveloped coast, consumer prices are within a ‘normal’ range: it is by no means the cheapest destination in Latin America, but tourists can get by on $46 per day for meals, or $791 for the whole week, all included.

The cost of living for locals is even lower, and if you’re visiting for a longer period (e.g. you’re a digital nomad) you should expect to live comfortably off of $1,918 per month; naturally, prices are higher for short-term visitors as they normally spend more on experiences, cultural attractions, and hotels.

Great Connectivity

One of the reasons why Guadalajara is seeing this uptick in foreign arrivals, particularly from the United States, is the great connectivity between U.S. hubs and the Jalisco capital: it is among the best-connected international airports in inland Mexico.

You can fly to Guadalajara from at least 20 departure points across America, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, and more keep getting added: next year, Detroit will receive its inaugural Guadalajara-bound Aeroméxico Connect flights.

Guadalajara also hosts nonstop service from Vancouver, in Canada and a Transatlantic link to Madrid, in Spain, making it one of a handful of non-coastal resort destinations in Mexico that are open to foreign markets outside the United States.

One Of The Top Destinations In Jalisco

Finally, it was recently crowned one of top destinations for tourists, both domestic and international, in the state of Jalisco, alongside Puerto Vallarta, proving they are not exactly intra-state competitors, but actually complement each other.

While Vallarta, and its neighboring Riviera Nayarit, in the bordering state, caters mostly to beachgoers and high-end travelers seeking relaxation and some fun in the sun, Guadalajara’s tourism sector is mainly geared towards culture and immersive experiences.

That’s not to say museums and historical buildings are the city’s only attractions:

Tourists will often visit it for the family-run restaurants and delectable cuisine, as it is the birthplace of the ‘drowned’ sandwich and tejuino, an indigenous corn beverage, shopping, and the exciting nightlife of Chapultepec Avenue.

Winter is a great time to visit Athens for mild, pleasant weather and very few crowds. Even in January, the coldest month, average temperatures hover in the high fifties and sunny. Late fall, winter, and early spring are all excellent times to visit Athens for a better experience.

When it comes to visiting the islands, many of them totally shut down during the winter. Even on busier and more popular islands like Mykonos and Santorini, many hotels, restaurants, and shops close for the winter. For this reason, you should avoid visiting the islands from November through March.
