Why This Cheap European Country Is Perfect For Digital Nomads

With millions of people around the world nowadays working remotely, more and more countries are finding themselves deemed the next “hotspot” for these digital nomads.

With the rising cost of literally everything in many Western countries, many are looking abroad to live for a while in hopes of better prices as well as a better way of life.

While many countries in Europe offer a good quality of life for digital nomads, some are, of course, more expensive than others. One country in South Eastern Europe that is gaining popularity with digital nomads for its low cost of living and high quality of life is Serbia

    Why Serbia?

Serbia is considered one of the cheapest countries in Europe for digital nomads, and for some reason, not many people seem to know about it yet. With its capital city of Belgrade being one of the most cost-effective capital cities for remote workers to live in, there’s a lot going for it in addition to its low price point.

Not being in the EU or in the Schengen zone means you are not limited by the same time constraints that are as strict as other popular digital nomad choices in Europe.

While most flock to the buzzing capital city of Belgrade, smaller hotspots such as Novi Sad and Nis also welcome many Digital nomads.

    The Fine Print

Serbia is aiming to establish itself as a digital nomad hub, and there’s talk of a digital nomad visa coming soon, in addition to other benefits such as tax incentives.

While the digital nomad visa is not here yet, most nationalities can stay up to three months on a normal tourist visa and then can pop over to any Schengen country, as Serbia doesn’t count towards their 90/180-day limit.

So, as one of the European countries that offer the chance for a long stay, why not settle down in Serbia for a while and enjoy all of what it has to offer?

    Low Cost Of Living

Some estimates put the average living costs in Belgrade at around €1,300 a month, including most bills and expenses, making it much cheaper than anywhere back in the U.S., and many digital nomads with experience in Serbia will tell you that number is high, and they that have gotten by on less than that.

Some recent figures indicate that a basic one-bedroom apartment can cost around $500 a month and utilities another $100.

Public transport should run you around $20 a month, and adding the low cost of groceries and phone cards, the total should still come in far under any U.S. or U.K. city.

Culture, Nature, Food, And Friendly People

Digital nomads like Serbia for its strong Balkan spirit and the city of Belgrade’s long and complex history has led to a unique melting pot of East meets West cultures and cuisines.

The food scene is alive and well here in Belgrade and beyond, and those who move here are instantly won over by the filling yet healthy Mediterranean meets Slavic diet.

Serbia also has a high level of English, and those who come here will happily discover that English is widely spoken and understood. This is just another reason why Belgrade is a foreigner-friendly city,

    Good Connectivity

The average internet speed for Serbia in November 2022 was 60.5 Mbps broadband and 46Mbps wifi.

The cities have numerous co-working spaces and internet cafes, so staying connected for work should not be an issue.

Transportation is good here as well, with Belgrade being a rather small city; it’s very walkable.

The public transportation system is very efficient, connecting the city to other popular areas in the country, as well as many connections via ground and air to other regions in Europe and further afield.

    Expat Community

There is a growing community of digital nomads in Serbia, and established expat groups and digital nomad communities are easy to find. Connecting with others is easier in Belgrade, although other cities such as Niš and Novi Sad also have a thriving expat scene.

With a buzzing nightlife scene, it should not be too hard to make new friends here. The major cities also have numerous meetups, coworking spaces, hubs, and cafes where most expats come to work.

One resource to check out if you are interested in making the move would be Expats In Belgrade, to read about expats’ experiences in Belgrade and better decide if it’s for you.

Top 5 Destinations in the U.S. for a Cheap Spring Break Getaway

Spring is in the air, and that can only mean that spring break is nearly upon us. The very mention of this popular vacation might bring back memories of MTV beach houses, college students living it up, swim-up bars, and spending endless amounts of money on questionable amounts of alcohol. Or perhaps you prefer a more laidback vibe, and the idea of enjoying a spring getaway at a less frenzied pace sounds more appealing to you.

With flight costs notoriously expensive around popular spring break times, why not stay closer to home? These five US cities are all easily reachable by domestic flights, have a major airport, and are serviced by multiple airlines at different price points, meaning no long-haul flights, layovers, or missed connections. These destinations are all well connected to other U.S. regions and reachable by bus, car, or even train in some cases — if you prefect to avoid flying altogether.

Here are the top 5 destinations in the US for a cheap spring break getaway for both the party-seekers and chill-chasers:

    Panama City, Florida

No spring break list would be complete without mentioning this “Spring Break Capital of The World.” Constantly ranked as Florida’s top spot for beachgoers, Panama City has all the ingredients for a memorable spring break. While Florida offers numerous cities and beaches for those looking for a spring break getaway, Panama City is known to be one of the most affordable spots in Florida.

At the time of writing, a search on Airbnb for a weekly rental in April (for 2 people) is about $600.

In addition to having accommodation coming in well under other Florida destinations, Panama City also offers activities day and night at price points that are sure to entice those looking to keep costs down.

Simply strolling and enjoying the white sand beaches is one free way to spend your day. If you are very committed, you can even pack a lunch to save costs on the many lively beach restaurants that tempt you in.

Or, if you prefer, head inland to Pitt and Sylvan Springs, where you can splash about in a tube or kayak or wander the trails and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the park. Panama City also is a great choice for both families and the younger crowd, as there are options for everyone here.

While prices may have risen in recent times, Panama City still offers a chance for a spring break on the beach, but at a lower price tag than many other US destinations.

    Outer Banks, North Carolina

Looking for a more mellow beach destination? A visit to the Outer Banks might be just what you seek.

A trip to these barrier islands can be cost-efficient as they are located within driving distance from many east coast areas, not only saving you money on flying but also the headache of air travel during this time of year.

Spring brings warm and mild temperatures to the area, and since the actual tourist season hasn’t started yet, the beaches are yours to explore. Climb the dunes along the ocean, and take in the views. An Outer Banks spring break also means that you can take advantage of the many seafood choices that occur in Spring.

    Outer banks sand dunes

After being closed all winter, most restaurants start opening up at this time, meaning it shouldn’t be too hard to get a prime table and prime prices.

While a trip to the Outer Banks can get pricy during the summer, the average weekly price in April for an Airbnb for 2 people is currently about $700.

Remembering that you can cook in for most meals and spend days aimlessly combing the beach for free, this destination surely deserves a spot on the budget spring break getaway list.

    New Orleans, Louisiana

A spring break getaway to New Orleans could be the perfect way to spice up your season and be the best remedy for the dreary March and April weather that tends to linger about for far too long.

Spring is the time to enjoy New Orleans without the muggy oppressive heat that summer cooks up. In addition to its warm and sunny weather, New Orleans is just overflowing with culture around every corner. One major attraction here is simply strolling and enjoying the charming streets of the French Quarter.

During March and April, it’s possible to find an Airbnb for 7 nights in the Big Easy for between $400-$500 (price based on 2 people). In addition, New Orleans is being added as a destination for most budget airlines, with flights from major US cities as low as $30 one way.

One main reason to head down to the big easy is for the food scene. Any foodie will tell you that New Orleans is a culinary destination in itself, but eating your way around this city’s famous restaurants might not be the cheapest way to spend your spring break. However, a visit at this time of year can land you in the middle of any of the city’s famous music and food festivals, meaning you can try more dishes without breaking the bank.

    Daytona Beach, Florida

It’s no shock to see Daytona Beach on any spring break list, as it’s been a classic favorite for years. While this destination does see higher prices in spring break time across the board, there are still ways to save on a trip to this party capital.

Hotels and apartments have never been more plentiful, meaning those who look can find lower-priced options. The area is well connected with taxis and shuttles, and most restaurants and bars are overflowing with special deals every day of the week.

Finding an apartment here in March or April can be done with an average weekly price as low as $400 for 2 people, and many cater to larger groups as well.

Daytona beach florida view from above the ocean

While flights to Daytona Beach airport are higher at this time of year, you can save money by flying into Orlando and either taking a shuttle or renting a car to reach Daytona Beach instead.

For example, New York to Daytona Beach for a week in March could cost you about $300 with a layover in Cleveland. The same dates but heading to Orlando are currently only about $100. Even if you factor in a shuttle at approximately $40 each way, that still saves a big chunk of change.

Not to mention if you were planning on renting a car anyway for your trip, Orlando might make a much more budget-conscious choice, depending on your starting point, of course.

    Washington, D.C.

Partying poolside all day not your thing? What about a trip to Washington, D.C. to take in some culture instead? Thinking of a visit to this national capital in the spring should immediately bring your mind to one thing-  cherry blossoms. This is the time of year to plan the perfect outfits and go take advantage of the beautiful backdrop that the city’s blooming cherry trees offer.

You might be surprised to see this city included on a list of budget-friendly spring break getaways, but the wide range of accommodations that are available in various neighbors and various price points makes finding something affordable not very difficult.

A beautiful reflection of cherry blossoms and the monument in Washington DC, Alaska's newest destination from San Diego

For example, many budget travelers choose to stay across the River in Virginia and commute via subway into the city center. A search on Airbnb yields many good choices, from guest suites to entire lofts, many coming in under $600 for a week.

Perfect for history buffs, D.C. is a good choice for spring break travel, and wandering among the monuments is much more manageable than doing so in the blazing summer heat. If the spring weather gets a bit drizzly or chilly, pop into one (or all) of the city’s famous museums, from the Smithsonian to the National Gallery.

The sheer amount of free activities in D.C. is another reason it can be considered a budget destination. There is so much more to do in Washington, D.C. than you might think, making it perfect for travelers of all ages. In addition to being a hit with history fans, Washington D.C. is also perfect for foodies.

The impressive food and drink scene here offers something for travelers of all tastes and budgets. To explore more off-the-beaten path and usually lower price options, follow a local publication. They are always in the know with tips and deals, helping travelers explore the local food and drink scene without breaking the bank.

Jet Blue Announces New Cheap Flights Starting At $39: Here’s How To Get Yours

    [ad_1]

The American low-cost airline JetBlue Airways announced on Tuesday a new promotion with ultra-low fares for American travelers. The Big Fall Sale, as the company calls this offer, allows customers to purchase flights for as low as $39 and also book great package deals including roundtrips and hotel nights.

All deals will be available until August 30 at midnight. Customers can use the carrier search tool and find the best fares for national and international destinations. Travelers can also choose from great bundle options.

Here’s what travelers should know about the sale and a quick guide on how to find the best deals and take advantage of JetBlue’s Fall sale.

What Travelers Should Know About The Big Fall Sale

Before jumping into booking flights or waiting for too long, those interested in the Big Fall Sale should first understand the terms and conditions. These are the main considerations:

    • The special prices expire next Tuesday 30 at 11:59 pm.
    • The sale applies for travel from September 6 through November 16 and excludes Fridays and Sundays.
    • The lowest fares apply to Blue Basic.
    • Fares are one-way and non-stop unless mentioned otherwise.
    • Tickets are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

The carrier has clarified that prices include taxes and fees. However certain services and considerations apply and might vary depending on the route. For example, travel windows, blackout dates, or choosing different days can affect fare prices or availability. Some flights do not operate during the sale window or on certain days.

Fares are subject to limited availability and might change without notice. Once you select an attractive option, the final price might change depending on availability. If you are sure about the day and destination, like the final price, and want to take advantage of the deal, book your flight as soon as possible!

    How To Get Cheap Fares

By default, JetBlue’s Big Fall Sale page features deals from New York City. Travelers will be able to see some low fare prices like flights from New York to Boston for just $49 for one way and a vacation package of two nights in a hotel and roundtrip flights for just $265.

Once you click on your preferred choice, the platform gives you more details. For example, if you choose the vacation package, it shows that the hotel would be the Hyatt House Boston Waltham which has 3 out of 5 stars on Trip Advisor.

If you are interested, you can click on the button “Select Dates”, JetBlue’s platform will show date alternatives for the bundle. However, that special price of $265 is no longer available.

The quickest and most accurate strategy would be to see all deals from your preferred city. You just have to click on the pencil next to the city name to choose your preferred location.

JetBlue has deals for over 60 airports in the United States and also for destinations in Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. But not all locations have many options for this Fall sale.

Let’s say you live in the Los Angeles area. The platform will show great deals like flights to Las Vegas for just $39 and hotel and roundtrip flights starting at $63. When selecting the flight option, the page will show a calendar with the different prices available, and you will usually find the promised low fares.

From our search, when selecting the bundle, prices tend to differ. The cheapest option for the Excalibur Hotel and Casino featured at $63 including two nights and flights, is now $90.80 per night, for a total of $181.59 for two nights for two travelers. Travelers get to choose from free room options or special rooms with extra costs ranging from $1.12 per night to $11.20.

There’s a resort fee warning of $25 and extra fees for parking. Travelers must remember that Las Vegas is known for its hidden hotel fees and this might not be the exemption.

There might be some extra fees that must be paid at the hotel, but JetBlue’s final price was still $181.59 after selecting the cheapest flights. It’s your turn to book your best deals!

Have you been searching for the best flight prices for your summer vacations? The American online travel giant Expedia has been analyzing recent data on their web search and discovered that US travelers have been planning their summer vacations even before spring break and Easter vacations.

man works remotely on a laptop at the beach

According to the information shared by Expedia in a press release, there has been a recent spike in interest in these top destinations for the months of June, July, and August:

    • Singapore: searches increased by 60%
    • Houston: searches increased by 55%
    • Bali: searches increased by 35%
    • Washington D.C: searches increased by 35%

The results show that travelers are interested in near locations as well as more exotic places. Considering that there is a high demand for travel this year, Expedia has published a cheat sheet with tips and relevant data to help travelers get the cheapest fares and get the most out of their summer vacations.

Christie Hudson, Senior Public Relations Manager for Expedia, said: “People are ready to make their summer vacations happen no matter what”. The manager also added: “With many travel restrictions easing over the past month, travelers have been inspired to dust off their bucket lists and get a jumpstart on planning. Prices are already reflecting that pent-up demand, so timing is going to be key for getting the best deal.”

The travel company has published the most popular destinations for summer 2022, the best times to travel to get cheaper prices, a list of places tourists can visit for less than $350 roundtrip, and valuable tips for booking.

    Trending Destinations For Summer 2022

Based on spikes in flight searches, Expedia shared the summer hotspots classified in three categories:

Best Times to Travel and destinations under $350

Expedia also analyzed prices for the summer season and shared a few conclusions. The cheapest month to fly is August, with nearly 10% lower ticket prices compared to June and July.

Those looking for cheap tickets can avoid July 1st, since the travel company disclosed that this is the most expensive day to fly, prior to the 4th of July holiday. Prices are 25% higher than the average summer months during those days.

Regarding destinations with roundtrip tickets under $350, Expedia shared an interest list. The top destinations travelers can visit for less than that amount in the United States and Canada are Fort Lauderdale, Toronto, Tampa, San, Antonio, Houston, Austin, Providence, Myrtle Beach, Kelowna, Nashville, New Orleans, and Charleston.

    Booking Tips

One of the main recommendations the travel brand gives customers is: “Book early and book smart”. This advice may sound simple, but considering many factors —personal and even pandemic related (it is hard to predict with so many travel restrictions changing)— travelers are waiting to book their next airplane tickets and will probably pay more.

Expedia recommends its users apply “free cancellation” filters when searching and avoid buying saver fares or restrictive basic economy tickets. The travel company also encourages travelers to consider flexible dates, choose weekdays over weekends and avoid holidays to save more money.

Booking flights, hotels, and car rentals —bundle promotions— might also help save a few dollars, as well as considering memberships and loyalty programs.
