The Mexican National Index of Tourist Prices has revealed that Los Cabos is currently the most expensive beach destination in Mexico.

To visit Los Cabos, tourists need to have an average of 7,000-9,000 pesos ($425-546) each for their daily expenses, including accommodation.

What’s more, costs for products and services in the resort area have increased by 15% annually compared to other cities in Mexico.

The 3 elements that have seen the biggest price increases are package tourist services, restaurants and bars, and hotels.

There are 2 reasons why Los Cabos is so pricey for tourists. The first reason is pure practicality. Because Los Cabos is isolated from the rest of the Mexican mainland, it costs more to deliver goods and food.

Secondly, Los Cabos tends to attract more affluent travelers looking for a high-end and luxurious vacation experience, and it is priced to meet this demand.

So is it worth the slurge? We think so!

Here’s why:

Beautiful Beaches

One of Los Cabos’s main attractions is its beautiful beaches. Think white sands, turquoise seas, and vast stretches of tropical paradise.

Los Cabos has a whopping 25 Blue Flag beaches, which is a sign of just how clean, pristine, and beautiful the beaches are.

Los Cabos has more Blue Flag beaches than any other destination in Mexico.

Almost every beach in Los Cabos is visually breathtaking, so it’s hard to choose the best ones to visit.

But according to TripAdvisor, some of the most highly regarded beaches in the destination include Chileno Beach, Medano Beach, and Santa Maria Beach.

These beaches all offer incredible views and an abundance of water sports and activities, and Santa Maria Beach is considered one of the best for snorkelers and kayakers.

It would be impossible to mention the most beautiful beaches in Los Cabos without sharing that, unlike many other beaches in Mexico, they aren’t plagued by sargassum. You’ll find no stinky seaweed here!

Exceptional Wellness Opportunities

Los Cabos is well known for the quality and availability of its spa and wellness facilities.

From pampering sessions to yoga retreats, you’ll find an abundance of activities focused on wellness here.

Spa Montage is the largest wellness center on the Baja California peninsula, covering an incredible 3,700 square meters, but it is just one of dozens of facilities.

Many tourists visit Los Cabos specifically to splurge on wellness and treatments and to invest in themselves.

From wellness-focused excursions to luxurious self-care amenities, wellness is big business in Los Cabos, and you’ll be spoilt for choice here.

Iconic Natural Attractions

Perhaps the most well-known and eye-catching landmark in Los Cabos is its natural stone arch.

Known as El Arco, this incredible rock formation sits at the very tip of the peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.

You can kayak or snorkel here, and it is also a popular location for boat tours.

Think whales, dolphins, and more species of fish than you can imagine.

For nature lovers the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains are also well worth exploring.

These beautiful mountains sit at a maximum height of 6,000 feet and are covered with lush pine and oak forests that are perfect for hikers and outdoor adventurers.

Visiting Los Cabos On A Budget

Of course, it is still possible to visit Los Cabos if you don’t want to splurge.

Travelers with a tighter budget could consider visiting in the low season when accommodation prices tend to be more affordable.

You could also save money by opting for a cheaper apartment or self-catering hotel option rather than splurging on an all-inclusive resort.

You don’t need a 5-star hotel to appreciate Los Cabos’s natural beauty, and if you shop around, you’ll find options.

Without an all-inclusive plan, you will find that you get out and about more, too. The food across Los Cabos is exceptional and this will give you a chance to embrace the local cuisine.

However, there is a good selection of affordable eateries in Los Cabos that do not break the budget.

5 Reasons Why The Cape Cod Of The Midwest Should Be Your Next Destination

I’m sure you’ve heard of Cape Cod, but did you know the Midwest has its own version of Cape Cod?

Jutting into Lake Michigan, there’s a beautiful peninsula known as Door County, Wisconsin.

I had no idea what to expect before my visit to Door County in February, but I was blown away by what I found.

Let me tell you, if you’ve never been, you’re missing out.

Here are 5 reasons why you should visit the Cape Cod of the Midwest:

Food, Food, and More Food

Trust me when I say you’ll want to visit Door County for the food alone (not to mention all the other incredible reasons that I’ll list later).

There are almost too many amazing foodie spots to mention, but I’ll do my best to highlight some of my favs.

First of all, we need to address the obvious Wisconsin favorite — THE CHEESE. So many CHEESES!

Some of my top recommended must-try cheeses come from Renard’s Artisan Cheese.

Do NOT leave Door County unless you’ve tried Renard’s hoop cheddar and they’re squeaky fresh cheese curds (in case you didn’t already know — the squeakier the cheese curd, the fresher it is!).

We tried A LOT of cheese curds while in Door County, and these were definitely my favorite.

Now let’s talk about Wisconsin’s other famous food product — cherries!

I may be in the minority here, but prior to my Door County trip, I didn’t know that Wisconsin was also famous for their amazing cherries.

There are so many ways to eat cherries in Door County, but I had two personal favorites that you should definitely try.

One of my personal favorites was the freeze-dried Montmorency Cherries that Destination Door County gifted me.

I wasn’t expecting to like them even more than the chocolate-covered cherries, but I did! If you like tart cherries, these were the perfect level of tartness.

My second favorite way to eat cherries while in Door County was, of course, in pie form. White Gull Inn had one of the top cherry pies of my entire trip.

We went to White Gull Inn for their traditional Fish Boil. The tradition of the Door County Fish Boil has been around for about 100 years. This was one of the coolest things we witnessed and should be added to your “must-do” list of things to do in Door County.

There were so many amazing restaurants to choose from, but I’m going to pick two more to highlight for you.

If you want incredibly delicious, fresh, and colorful food with an amazing atmosphere, then you need to go to Sip.

When I tell you this was my favorite meal of my entire trip, I’m not lying to you. Please go to Sip.

They have a super cute store upstairs, and everything in the restaurant is also for sale — I actually bought the drinking glasses they served our water in!

For those of you who love pizza as much as I do (a little too much), you need to go to Sonny’s Italian Kitchen & Pizzeria.

I ate so much pizza and pasta here that I must have gained approximately 5 pounds, but it was worth every bite.

After you indulge in the cheesy, carby goodness then you can head downstairs and grab a pint of craft beer at Bridge Up Brewing Company.

Charming Local Stays

White Lace Inn

Now that I’ve finished talking your ear off about the amazing food in Door County, I’m going to mention my favorite part of the entire trip.

The super cute Victorian-style inns sprinkled all over Door County.

I stayed in White Lace Inn and I never wanted to leave.

White Lace Inn actually has four different Victorian-style homes that are all connected by beautiful gardens.

Before I talk about the room I stayed in, I must bring up food one more time. Breakfast is served every morning in the Main House.

One of the most popular dishes that they serve is their stuffed French Toast.

I’m not kidding when I say I would come back to stay here just for the stuffed French Toast.

In all seriousness, though, I would absolutely live in the suite I had at White Lace Inn.

I stayed in the Victorian Suite of the Washburn House, and I’ve never felt more at home. The suite was filled with beautiful antique furniture and a two-sided fireplace.

There was a separate sitting room and a beautifully large bathroom complete with a whirlpool bathtub.

I could have spent my entire trip in that room, and I wouldn’t have been mad about it.

The great thing about Door County is that it has so many beautiful Inns and Bed & Breakfasts up and down the entire peninsula.

The Pembrooke Inn B&B was another beautiful Victorian Inn located in Sturgeon Bay, but there were some really picturesque inns in Fish Creek, which was probably my favorite little town we visited in Door County.

Arts And Culture

One of the things that surprised me most was the beautiful artsy culture filling the heart of Door County.

My favorite example of this was the Popelka Trenchard Glass Fine Art Gallery & Studio.

The artwork displayed in the gallery was simply one-of-a-kind. However, the coolest part of visiting the gallery was the glass-blowing demonstration.

The owners were incredibly kind and informative. Watching them work so flawlessly in sync together was a form of art in and of itself.

Their glassblowing technique was mesmerizing; I could have watched them for hours on end.

Another hidden artsy gem within Door County is the Miller Art Museum.

The museum’s curator had an incredible way of choosing pieces that provoked strong emotions from its viewers.

The thought and intentionality behind the displays were clearly visible. I was deeply moved by the artists’ work displayed in the museum.

Nature

Cave Point County Park

If you love being surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, then you’re in luck because Door County is in no short supply.

From beautiful nature preserves to stunning beaches, you won’t be disappointed at Door County’s endless beauty.

One of the best ways to get out and see Door County’s nature up close and personal is by e-biking with Door County Kayak Tours.

Our tour guide was super nice! She took us to Cave Point County Park for a stunning view of the limestone sea caves and dramatic icicles hanging along the cliff edges.

After taking in Cave Point, we took a short ride over to Whitefish Dunes State Park to soak up the sun on its beautiful beach.

Just kidding, there was still ice on the shore, but we soaked up as much sun as we could through our endless amounts of layers.

Even though summertime is way better for swimming and sunbathing at the Whitefish Dunes, it was serenely peaceful to have the beach to ourselves in the winter.

No matter what season, you can absolutely still enjoy it, and the views are worth it!

Another place for a stunning view is in Peninsula State Park at its Eagle Tower.

The tower isn’t always open in the winter, but it was unseasonably warm while I was there, and we were lucky enough to head to the top to look over the ice-covered Lake Michigan.

That’s a view I won’t soon forget, and I can’t recommend it enough. Peninsula State Park also has plenty of beautiful but easy hikes that people of all fitness levels can enjoy.

The Bay Shore Blufflands Nature Preserve is another peaceful and easy hike that shows the impressive rock bluff of the Niagara Escarpment.

This is the perfect hike for just about any fitness level.

Out of all the nature-filled excursions we took, there was one that stood out among the rest.

The Open Door Bird Sanctuary was hands-down one of my favorite activities of the entire trip.

I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I was blown away with how much I loved every aspect of the sanctuary.

We were immediately greeted by Oslo, a Snowy Owl, who was breathtakingly beautiful, and I just wanted to hang out with him for the entire time.

Little did I know, there were even more incredible birds waiting for us!

They have about 20 permanent bird residents, including a Bald Eagle, a Golden Eagle, a Red-tailed Hawk, and one of my favorites Twig, a tiny Screech Owl.

Trust me when I say that this is a must-do in Door County.

I never would have expected to love it as much as I did, and I would love to go back!

History

The Thorp Cabin in Founder’s Square, Fish Creek, Wisconsin

There is so much history throughout Door County.

I already mentioned the beautiful Victorian inns, most of which date back to the 1800s.

In my favorite little town, Fish Creek, there’s a section called Founder’s Square where you can find the tiny Thorp Cabin. The cabin was built by the founder of Fish Creek in 1849 and is still standing in the middle of the town today.

One of my favorite bits of history that we were able to explore was the Door County Maritime Museum.

The museum is built into a tower overlooking the beautiful waterfront, and each floor of the museum tells a different portion of Door County’s history.

My favorite parts were learning about the early American Indians in the area and how massive ships were built in the bay and transported all the way from Lake Michigan to the ocean.

This was definitely another must-do to add to your list of places to visit in Door County.

Why This Secluded Beach Destination Is Being Hyped As A Top European Getaway For 2024

The population is growing, but the world itself is not getting any bigger.

Despite this fact, there are still hidden gems to discover, even in the age of information overload.

Multiple publications have showcased this secluded beach destination that perhaps many travelers have never heard of before.

Locals treasure this lesser-known resort town, but it could be the last year before the secret is out compared to other big names within the same borders.

Croatia has been trending upward for quite a while now, and it’s time to put yet another stunning coastal town on the map.

While many travelers are aware of Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb, the spotlight is now shining bright on Cavtat.

The Croatian Tuscany

Cavtat lies along a scenic coastline just 11 miles from Dubrovnik, one of the most accessible hubs in the country.

However, Cavtat is actually closer to the airport, which makes it an even more convenient getaway.

Away from the hustle and bustle, this gorgeous town is a place to enjoy the simple pleasures of life à la Tuscany.

It’s not that Croatia doesn’t know how to party. We’ve all seen the superyachts…

It’s just Cavtat isn’t the place to let loose. On the contrary, it’s the perfect escape to kick back and relax for a blissful vacation.

One of many reasons why it has been voted the best destination for Honeymooners is that while newlyweds can enjoy nights on the town, Cavtat provides a secluded setting to get away from the everyday stresses of life—something we can surely all relate to.

While the partygoers fist-pump the night away with shots, this tranquil seaside town is more for letting the wine flow at a slower pace.

5-Star Luxury

If chartering superyachts just doesn’t meet the budget, perhaps a lavish 5-star stay will do the trick.

Despite being relatively small in size, travelers have multiple luxury hotels to choose from with stunning views and high-end amenities.

Both 5-star Hotel Croatia Cavtat and Hotel Supetar Cavtat hold prime real estate in this lesser-known region of Croatia.

Some Croatian cities have travelers counting pennies, but the beauty of Cavtat is you can experience a heavenly stay at a luxury hotel without breaking the bank.

Rates through summer are as low as $102 per night, which is a steal of a deal for resorts of this magnitude.

5-star stays are not the only viable option, of course. There are plenty of mid-tier accommodations along with charming villas, but who wouldn’t want to level up at these prices?

Incredible Beaches

It would be hard to find a traveler going to Croatia without mentioning the gorgeous blue waters in this region of the world.

There are ample boat tours as well providing even better views of the than you see from the shoreline.

While the views are never tired to gaze upon, the beaches may be even more enjoyable to go for a swim, snorkeling and even cliff jumps for the more daring adventurers.

Zal is the largest beach with calm waters that are perfect for taking a dip, but those seeking even more seclusion may want to opt for Sustjepan Beach, which is walkable from the town center.

And there’s one beach north of town where beachgoers can, let’s just say go “full Euro” and may find it to be extra breezy.

Historic Sites

Despite being an unsuspecting beachside town, Cavtat is not only known for its laid-back lifestyle and stunning nature of crystal blue waters and scenic mountains.

Tourists can peruse local artisan shops along the scenic waterfront promenade or pay a visit to the Old Town district for more historical sites, such as the Bukovac House Museum.

Local eateries have rave reviews, not only for the quality of their food offerings but also for being the perfect place to watch picturesque sunsets.

While it may seem odd to visit a cemetery on vacation, one of the top-rated attractions on TripAdvisor is the oddly placed Cavtat Cemetery—one of the best viewpoints of the city and even offers tours.

The world may be full of epic travel destinations, but one Asian country in particular seems to be stealing the spotlight this year.

In general, the blooms first peak in the south, and then the color moves north; early to mid-April is the ideal time to catch the sakuras at their best.

Some of the best places to view blooms are Mount Yoshino in Nara, Philosopher’s Path in Kyoto, Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo, Himeji Castle in Hyogo, and Hirosaki Castle Park, Aomori.

Ideal Weather

Japan experiences the traditional four seasons, with its rainy season falling in June and July.

If you want pleasant weather and to visit when the landscapes are colorful and lush, spring is the perfect time.

Whether you are climbing this country’s mountains, wandering Tokyo’s streets, or exploring Kyoto’s temples, you’ll be much more comfortable visiting in spring when the days are still mild.

Japan’s summers are notoriously hot and humid, bringing unpredictable rains and temperatures as high as the upper 90’s in Tokyo.

In contrast, daily temperatures in spring fall in the comfortable 50-70 degree range, and skies are clear with plenty of sun.

Festival Season

Visiting a country during a national holiday or local festival is an experience like no other.

Celebrating amongst the locals on crowded streets, feeling the pulsing energy and excitement, and witnessing colorful, culturally rich traditions come alive can be one of the most fulfilling travel experiences.

As winter thaws and the sunshine returns, the country comes alive with a variety of matsuri or festivals.

One of the most beautiful of the matsuri is the Takayama Festival, which takes place in the Gifu prefecture from April 14th-15th.

While the cheapest time to fly to Japan is during its off-seasons, summer or winter, you can still find some good deals for spring if you book sooner rather than later.

We found non-stop flights from Los Angeles to Tokyo right in time for peak cherry blooms that cost around $1600 for a 2-week trip at the beginning of April.

For our Midwest based readers, a non-stop round trip ticket from Chicago to Tokyo for a 10 day trip departing March 30th would cost around $1800.

If you’re up for a 2 hour layover on both flights, we found a roundtrip 10 day trip from New York City to Tokyo for just $1495 also departing on March 30.

Seasonal Cuisine

While there’s no wrong time of year for sampling Japanese cuisine, different times of the year bring a different availability of ingredients.

Japanese cuisine and the availability of certain dishes change to align with the seasons, as the country’s Buddhist roots bring an appreciation for seasonality and alignment with nature.

The Sakura blossoms and leaves aren’t only beautiful, but they are also edible!

The arrival of spring will bring a host of unique sakura-themed treats and drinks like sakura mochi.

The spring months are the ideal time to visit if you want to sample springtime dishes featuring seasonally fresh seafood, and Takenoko, or bamboo shoots.

This Is The Top Cultural Destination In The Mexican Caribbean Right Now

With a recorded history spanning at least two millennia, from the mystical Mayans to the period of Spanish colonization, Mexico is a treasure trove of ancient wonders.

Lucky for Americans, it’s a short three-to-four-hour flight away.

This is still a vast country with an incredibly diverse tourist offer we’re talking about, and if you’ve been dreaming of embarking on a cultural immersion this year while also basking in the Mexican sun, this historically-charged coastal town is where it’s at:

Tulum Is The Number One Cultural Destination In Mexico In 2024

According to a recent study conducted by the Mexican National Institute for Anthropology & History, Tulum is the absolute leader in cultural tourism in Mexico by the sheer volume of visitors, beating Teotihuacán, near Mexico City, Chichén Itzá and Cobá to the number one spot.

Unlike other archaeological zones in Mexico, the ruins at Tulum are not located in a remote area you can only get to with a car or tour group: it is a short 1.8-mile walk from Downtown Tulum to the entrance of the archaeological complex, which is administered by the municipality itself.

While Teotihuacán is commonly associated with the Mexican capital, it sits outside city limits a whole 29 miles away; Chichén Itzá is no different, seeing that the closest town nearby is Valladolid, and that’s still a 30 to 40-minute drive depending on traffic.

If exploring Mayan ruins is at the top of your Mexico bucket list, followed by some quality time at the beach, then there is surely no better place to come as Tulum combines both, and the numbers don’t lie: so far this year, the historical zone recorded over 200,000 visitors.

Why Is Tulum Special?

One of the reasons why Tulum is so special is how fairly young it is compared to much older Mayan settlements: it was only established between the 14th and 15th centuries AD and abandoned almost a century following the first Spanish incursions into Mexican territory.

This means a majority of the buildings on site are extremely well-preserved, did not suffer from pillaging as much as other Mayan hubs of its time did, and offer a precious insight into what life in the Mayan civilization looked like in the dawn of European colonization.

Plus, it’s just downright gorgeous: if you’ve ever wondered where you could see that postcard view of an old temple resting on a cliff-top, overlooking powder-white sands and turquoise waters below, look no further as Tulum is where it is located.

The fact that new temples that had previously been off-limits are now accessible, more sections of the archaeological zone are being revitalized, and a new Frida Kahlo Museum is coming are all equally great news for history and art aficionados.

Has Tulum’s Cultural Value Been Overlooked All Along?

Sitting on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Tulum is no hidden gem waiting to be discovered: it’s been a hugely populal resort destination for years, largely due to its highly-developed beachfront, packed with five-star resorts and luxurious villas.

It’s also developed a reputation for being the entertainment capital of the Mexican Caribbean, with beach clubs galore and a bar-lined Highway 307 attracting young revelers from all over the world, and particularly bachelor/bachelorette partygoers.

Considering Cancun’s infamy as a party zone, perhaps you may find it surprising that it currently ranks as the number one cultural hotspot in Mexico, beating a vibrant Mexico City and its multicultural districts, the walled city of Merida, and even the charming Spanish colonial outpost Guanajuato.

Tulum isn’t exactly unheard-of, as we mentioned already, but it is certainly underrated on the culture front, as beyond the jungle raves and the gentrified coast, you will find one of the most prominent Mayan ruins of the Mexican Caribbean, crystal-clear cenotes shrouded in mystery and artsy museums.

You Can Fly Nonstop To Tulum From The States

Additionally, it is one of the most accessible cultural getaways in Mexico, as it is set to host nonstop flights from 9 cities in the U.S. beginning this month, and it’s an official stop on the Maya Train route.

The Maya Train brings tourists from Cancun to other destinations in the Mayan Riviera and beyond, and though service to Tulum has not yet formally launched, the train should be up and running at some point this summer, as confirmed by local authorities.

This Safe Destination Is Surging In Popularity Since The Launch Of The New Maya Train

The Maya Train has forever changed the way we approach travel in the Mexican Caribbean, shortening travel distances between all the major resort zones, and making it a lot leasier for foreign tourists to reach lesser-known destinations that could be accessed with a car previously.

As a result, one of these hidden gems, the charming, remarkably-safe city of Campeche, is becoming increasingly more popular for vacationers to visit, with Mexican President himself confirming it is now the third most sought-after destination on the route.

Since the Maya Train debuted, as many as 7,230 tickets for Campeche were sold, surpassed in sales only by Merida and Cancun.

Tourists Flock Into Campeche For The Fascinating Culture

Campeche is one of the oldest cities not only in Mexico but also on the mainland North American continent.

European settlers established it as early as 1540 in a strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico, and it’s not a place you want to skip if you’re a culture aficionado.

Picture centuries-old cobbled lanes lined by brightly-painted facades that still retain their Old World charm, plazas flanked by monumental, viceregal Baroque palaces, and well-preserved Spanish convents and churches built to last for eternity.

Campeche is easily one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico, and a historically charged one at that.

The main building in the Historic Center, Campeche Cathedral, was constructed as early as the 16th century, and it’s one of the most impressive colonial structures in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Other points of interest in town include the Mayan Angel, a landmark statue celebrating Campeche pre-Columbian origins, San José Fort, one of the city’s main defensive mechanisms against pirate incursions, and the surviving city walls.

Out of all colonial cities of the New World, Campeche is only of two to still have its protective murallas nearly intact, the other being Quebec City, Canada’s Europenized, French-speaking city. In recognition of its cultural value, UNESCO has added it to its World Heritage Site list.

Beautiful Beaches, High Levels Of Safety And Affordable Stays

Besides the historical attractions, Campeche is within short driving distance of several paradisaical Gulf beaches, such as Playa Caracol, a serene, family-friendly swimming site bounded by mangroves, and the aptly-called Bahamitas, or ‘Little Bahamas’, where sands are virgin-white and waters a bright-blue.

Other than being indisputably beautiful, Campeche has made headlines lately for being one of the safest state capitals in Mexico and the only major city other than Merida to have attained a Level 1 status, as awarded by U.S. authorities.

If you are unfamiliar with travel advisories, Washington classifies different destinations between Levels 1 and 4, with 1 being the safest possible—including risk-free countries like Iceland, Norway, and Finland—and 4 being the most dangerous and that should be avoided at all costs (Russia, North Korea, and the like).

Despite being a fairly large city, home to over a million residents in its wider metropolitan area, Campeche can feel incredibly quaint, with a high number of pedestrianized streets, which means less of the usual chaotic traffic and very low crime rates.

As is the case with other cities in Mexico, you should definitely not let your guard down, however encouraging advisories sound, but you shouldn’t expect harassment and scamming to be as common, nor pickpocketing or violence, compared to Cancun or Mexico City.

Campeche is also a lot more affordable than your usual Mexican resort town, with centrally-located boutique hotels costing between $112 and $160 to book per night, as listed on Booking.com, and lower food and consumer prices.

How Easy Is It To Get To Campeche On The Maya Train?

Now that you know why Campeche is trending with Maya Train travelers, you are probably wondering how actually easy it is to get there if you’re landing in Cancun, and how much tickets cost.

As seen on the official website, there are two Cancun-Campeche departures planned every day, at 7 am and 9 am, at a total journey length of five-and-a-half hours. The train calls at a number of stations along the way, including ‘Magical Towns’ Valladolid and Izamal and fellow colonial gem Merida.

Tickets can be purchased via the Maya Train online shop or any station and authorized vending point. There are three seating categories: Tourist, Premium, and Local.

Tourist tickets start from around MXN 1,166 during the inaugural phase, or roughly $67.

Why This European Capital Is Surprisingly My Favorite Solo Female Travel Destination

Europe is one of the safest and easiest regions to explore as a solo female traveler.

So if you want to explore the world, then there’s no need to wait for someone to go with you.

Just go it alone!

I’ve visited dozens of cities solo, but this unexpected European capital captured my heart. Its rich history, affordable prices, and excellent safety record all mean that it’s a city I would love to visit again and again.

Here’s why this European capital is my favorite solo female travel destination:

An Underrated Travel Destination

Warsaw is such an underrated travel destination, and despite being the capital of Poland, many travelers prefer to visit Krakow instead. In fact, Krakow is the most popular tourist destination in Poland.

Despite this, Warsaw is my favorite solo female travel destination for so many reasons.

Warsaw is varied and beautiful and you’ll find history on every corner.

As an official history nerd, I found it a fascinating place to explore.

You can see the remains of the city’s Ghetto Wall or wander around the newest Old Town in Europe.

So much of Warsaw’s Old Town was destroyed during WWII that it was almost completely reconstructed in the post-war era.

But the reconstruction is so faithful to the original that you almost forget you’re not exploring ancient history.

The best way to find out more about the impact WWII had on the city is with a tour, especially if you’re flying solo.

I took a tour of the Warsaw Ghetto and learned so much about the horrors that impacted the history of Jewish people both in the city and in wider Europe.

Warsaw’s detractors often mention its ugly Soviet-era buildings, but even these are interesting in their own way.

The Palace of Culture and Science was Stalin’s last gift to the city before the iron curtain fell.

My hotel was right next door, and if you’re nearby I recommend paying the 20 PLN ($5) to visit the building’s 30^th floor observation deck and enjoy the views of the city.

There’s so much to see and do in the city and it is this abundance of activity that makes Warsaw one of my favorite travel spots.

Safe And Secure

Warsaw is a destination with an impeccable safety record. I felt incredibly safe and secure in the city as a solo female traveler, even at night while having a cocktail or two.

Warsaw isn’t known for having the most happening nightlife scene in Europe but there are plenty of places to let your hair down. I recommend The Roots Cocktail Bar which is the number 1 cocktail bar in the city according to Tripadvisor and according to me!

The city is well-lit, there is a visible police presence across the city after hours, and the locals are helpful and friendly (if not a little blunt).

While I felt safe walking back to my hotel at night, the city has an amazing public transportation system that gives you easy and safe transport from pretty much anywhere in the city at all hours.

Don’t feel comfortable using public transportation as a solo female traveler?

I’ve never been in a city where traveling by Uber is so affordable! A 20-minute Uber ride cost me just 25 PLN ($6).

There are also plenty of electric scooters on almost every street corner, and it’s easy to download the relevant app and hop on. There are several different companies available, but I used Bolt because they offered a 50% discount on your first 3 journeys.

The U.S. Department of State has given Poland a Level 1 travel advisory which is the lowest level available, and is a clear sign of just how safe the country is.

While you should exercise normal precautions, such as keeping an eye on your bag in crowds, spending time in Warsaw is likely to be just as safe as spending time in your home city.

And feeling safe is so important when traveling solo.

Great For Budget Travelers

Warsaw is a great spot for budget travelers.

I’ve already mentioned just how cheap nearly every kind of transportation is which means that getting around will barely put a dent in your budget.

Want to see as much of the city as possible without opening your wallet?

There are a huge choice of city tours offered by locals available in English completely free of charge. Just make sure you have some cash to tip your tour guide.

Other free activities worth enjoying in Warsaw include enjoying the laser show at the Fountain Park, visiting the city’s many parks and green spaces, and many of Warsaw’s museums are free too.

You’ll find live street performances in the Old Town and across the city’s parks no matter what the time of year.

Art lovers will be fascinated by Warsaw’s murals and street art which are on some of the cities most prominent locations.

You can see the work of world-famous street artists in every district of Warsaw.

Accommodation options are affordable, and the price of food and drink is incredibly cheap too.

I paid just 11 PLN ($2.70) for a cake and coffee break, 40 PLN ($10) for an artisan pizza and 8 PLN ($2) for a pastry and bottle of water from a local bakery.

Entrance to the Royal Palace cost 50 PLN ($12.60) and this was the most expensive activity I signed up for in the city.

Warsaw is a great place to travel if you don’t want to worry about breaking the bank or checking price tags. And a great place for solo female travelers.

Delta Introduces 2 New Flights Between The U.S. And This Iconic Italian Destination

Italy is a bucket list destination packed full of incredible culture, delicious food, and charming natural vistas.

There are so many beautiful Italian cities that it can feel impossible to choose just one.

The good news is that traveling between the U.S. and Italy is easier than ever.

And now Delta is introducing 2 new flights between the U.S. and this iconic Italian destination:

Delta Flights To Venice

Venice is one of the most iconic cities in Italy.

Travelers in New York can now fly with ease between New York JFK and Venice Marco Polo Airport.

This flight will operate every day, departing from New York at 8.55 pm and landing in Venice at 10.15 am the next day.

The return leg of the journey will depart from Venice at 12.15 pm and arrive in JFK at 5.05 pm.

For the plane geeks among us, this flight will operate using a Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 216 seats.

If that’s not enough, then for the first time, Delta will also offer 2 daily flights between Venice and Atlanta too.

Later this month, the airline’s nonstop service between Venice and Atlanta will resume, and then in the summer months, this will increase to 2 flights per day.

What does this mean for U.S. travelers to Venice?

This summer, Delta will operate 17 flights a week between Venice and the U.S., making it easier than ever to visit Venice for a summer vacation packed full of culture and romance.

The Popularity Of The Floating City

Venice is one of the most beautiful and iconic destinations in Italy, and it attracts millions of visitors each year.

In fact, it attracts so many visitors that this year, travelers will have to pay a tourist tax to enter the city in a bid to combat overtourism.

Don’t worry this won’t break the bank. You’ll have to pay 5 euros per day to enter the island of Venice between 8:30 and 16:00.

Although this fee won’t be officially introduced until 2025 it will be tested throughout 2024. The current test days will be May 11, 12, 18, 19, 19, 25 and 26.

You have to pay this tax in advance of your arrival, but the good news is that it is incredibly easy to do. Just visit the dedicated website https://cda.ve.it/en/

Why Visit Venice?

Venice is a captivating, breathtakingly beautiful city. Its waterways have captured the hearts and minds of tourists for generations.

It is a small city of grand palaces and old buildings that seem to emerge from the water.

There are no roads in Venice, so traveling by boat (or, if you can afford the luxury, a gondola) is one of the best ways to navigate the city.

There are around 177 different canals to explore in the city, and each offers a unique perspective.

Because Venice is such a compact city, it’s easy to explore in a relatively short period of time.

It has lots of narrow alleys and ancient streets, and getting lost as you explore these is part of the adventure of spending time in the city.

Venice is a great year-round destination thanks to its Mediterranean climate.

Although the winter months can be cooler and misty, that only adds to the romantic, old-world feel of the city.

And the city tends to be quieter during the winter and spring months too, with the hottest summer months also being the most crowded.

Some of the main attractions in Venice include the Rialto Bridge, Piazzo San Marco, and the Doge’s Palace.

Fans of art and culture should also explore the galleries and museums such as the Galleria dell’Accademia, Museo Correr, and the Venician Guggenheim collection.

Avid followers of travel trends will have read all about this year’s upcoming trending destinations – the likes of Japan, Turkey, and South Korea have been getting a lot of column inches.

But another nation tipped to be one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in 2024 is the beautiful island of Sri Lanka – and so far, it seems like that prediction is coming true.

The latest figures from Sri Lanka’s Tourism Authority show that the country experienced a surge in international visitors for the first two months of 2024 – both January and February were more than 100% up in 2023.

If that trend continues, Sri Lanka will almost certainly be one of the hottest travel destinations on the planet this year—so why should you consider it?

Amazing Cities And Nature

It’s hard to find a traveler who’s been to Sri Lanka and hasn’t absolutely loved it – the country just seems to push all the right buttons and leave people with long-lasting memories.

From the chaotic and exciting streets of Colombo to the beautiful riverside temples of Kandy – Sri Lanka’s cities allow you to sample a culture that is influenced by South India and Europe.

Venture away from the urban jungles, and you will find lush green hills and the chance to encounter exotic wildlife, including elephants.

As a small island, Sri Lanka is also blessed with beautiful beaches on almost every coast with some of the most iconic being Bentota Beach in the southwest and Mirissa Beach on the south coast close to Galle.

Incredibly Affordable

One thing that makes those incredible sights and attractions even more appealing is just how affordable Sri Lanka is.

If you’re willing to backpack and use hostels, you can often find a place to sleep for less than $10 a night, or if you prefer a little more comfort, you should be able to get a decent hotel with a nightly rate of $50 (maybe even less).

Ideal For Digital Nomads

When Sri Lanka first announced it was launching a digital nomad visa, it got a heck of a lot of travelers excited.

The visa allows you to stay for a year, provided you earn the minimum required amount (around $2,000 per month), and can be extended fairly easily.

The latest info from Nomadlist shows that you live in popular destinations such as Galle and Kandy for less than $1,300 per month.

Great At Any Time Of Year

Sri Lanka’s location and unique geographical mix of coastal lowlands and hilly inner regions mean that it can be an all-year-round destination – you just need to make sure you visit the right place at the right time.

The country enjoys warm weather throughout the year.

However, there are two main monsoon seasons: the Yala, which is concentrated in the southwest from April to June, and the Maha, which is worst on the east coast between November and March.

Festivals And Culture

Sri Lankan life is punctuated with many colorful festivals celebrating religion and the country’s history.

February 4 is Sri Lanka’s national Independence Day, while Sinhalese New Year is celebrated on April 13 this year, while Diwali – another hugely celebrated festival in Sri Lanka – takes place on October 31.

Solo Travelers Seem To Love It

For many, Sri Lanka reminds them of what it was like to travel around Southeast Asia many years ago.

The country is still relatively underrated and is a place where you can make up plans as you go along, something that solo travelers will always find appealing.

Simple To Visit

Before you travel, you need to grab yourself a Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa, which will allow you double entry into the country for 30 days.

You apply for it online and there is a fee of $50 – the visa can be extended while you are in Sri Lanka for a further fee.

Sri Lanka is rated as a Level 2 travel advisory by the U.S. government, which means exercise increased caution.

While this is not the lowest level possible, Sri Lanka is generally safe for tourists provided you are sensible – the Level 2 is largely due to some civil unrest in the country back in the fall of 2023.

Why This UK Destination Was My Favorite For Solo Travel (And It’s Not London)

London might be the most popular destination in the United Kingdom, attracting around 20 million visitors each year, but another UK city stole my heart recently.

Edinburgh, Scotland has quickly become one of my all-time favorite destinations for solo travel.

I’ve been to London countless times over the years, as well as other destinations in England, but somehow I had never ventured further north to Scotland.

So on a recent trip, I decided to change that and I took the train up to Edinburgh from London.

Here’s why the Scottish capital is the perfect city for your next solo trip:

It’s Small And Easy To Get Around

After the hustle and bustle of sprawling London, I was shocked when I arrived at Waverley train station in Edinburgh and realized I was right in the heart of the city.

The compact nature of Edinburgh makes it perfect for solo travelers.

You can get almost anywhere on foot, or if you’re tired of walking, you can hop on a bus across the city.

On my trip to Edinburgh, I was hosted by hotels in both the Old Town and the New Town. These are the most central neighborhoods I would recommend for first-time visitors.

Old Town is a bit closer to many of the most popular tourist attractions, but there’s not a huge difference between the two.

In the Old Town, I stayed at House of Gods, which was literally just steps away from the Royal Mile, the main street in Edinburgh.

Although this hotel is well-suited for a romantic getaway with its decadent atmosphere and moody decor, its cozy rooms and central location also make it perfect for solo travelers.

One of my favorite things about this hotel? There’s literally a button you can press to have milk and warm cookies delivered directly to your room!

In the New Town, I stayed at RÌGH Residences, luxury serviced apartments in an amazing location.

This property is also great for solo travelers who want some extra space and all the comforts of home — every apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen and living area.

I loved staying at RÌGH Residences because I felt like I was living like a local in Edinburgh.

The location was extremely convenient, just a few minutes from the Old Town.

Fun Things To Do For Solo Travelers

Edinburgh is truly a fairytale city. As I strolled around the Old Town on my first afternoon, I couldn’t stop snapping photos of the charming streets, each more picturesque than the last.

There’s plenty to do in Edinburgh for solo travelers, and I didn’t get bored once during my trip there.

Edinburgh is full of amazing museums. My favorites were:
- Scottish National Gallery: A great art museum with a collection of European and Scottish art
- Scottish National Portrait Gallery: A smaller art museum focused on portraits, located in a stunning historic building
- The Writer’s Museum: A cool little museum dedicated to famous Scottish writers
- National Museum of Scotland: A large museum about Scottish history and culture with an amazing rooftop terrace
And best of all, each of these museums is completely free to visit.

You also can’t miss visiting Edinburgh Castle, the iconic hilltop castle that was used as a royal residence beginning in the 11th century.

And one of my favorite things to do in Edinburgh was simply strolling around the city.

Two of my favorite areas were Circus Lane (an extremely photogenic street) and Dean Village (a picturesque little neighborhood with a waterfront footpath you can follow.)

Easy To Meet Others

Even if you’re traveling solo, you can leave Edinburgh with new friends.

Scottish people as a whole are very friendly and welcoming — more so than the English, at least according to many Scots!

It’s also easy to meet other travelers in Edinburgh. There are several popular walking tours in Edinburgh where you can meet other people, some of whom might also be solo travelers.

One of those is a Harry Potter walking tour (a must for any Potterhead!), which will show you the exact spots that inspired J.K. Rowling when she was writing the series. This is the free tip-based tour I did.

The same tour company also offers a free ghost tour that’s very popular (Edinburgh has a lot of haunted history!) as well as a fun weekend pub crawl.

It’s Extremely Safe

One thing that really struck me about Edinburgh is how safe it felt.

Not that other cities in the UK feel dangerous, but Edinburgh just felt very safe to me as a solo female traveler, especially the Old Town and New Town.

The one “dodgy” area of Edinburgh used to be the waterfront port neighborhood of Leith, but even this area has been revitalized and is now a hip and trendy hotspot.

Of course, you should always take basic precautions to stay safe wherever you travel, especially as a solo traveler, but Edinburgh is not a place where you have to worry!

It’s also a great introduction to travel in Scotland.

Since Edinburgh is so small and easy to get around, it’s perfect for a quick solo trip.

I would love to explore more of Scotland in the future, but many places further north require renting a car to get to, and that’s not something I’m comfortable with as a solo traveler.

Getting To Edinburgh

While getting to London is easy for American travelers since there are nonstop flights from so many cities in the U.S., getting to Edinburgh can be a little trickier.

There aren’t as many nonstop flights from the U.S. to Edinburgh (New York, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, and Orlando all have seasonal flights), and sometimes they can be significantly more expensive than nonstop flights to London.

Your best bet might be flying to London, then taking a short 1 hour and 15 minute flight from London to Edinburgh.

You can also take the train from London to Edinburgh, which is what I did.

This takes approximately 4.5 hours and is a great option if you want to combine these two UK cities in one trip.
