For most of air travel history, Canadians have gotten the shaft when it comes to flight availability, cheap tickets, and cool far-flung routes. We’ve watched our neighbor to the south get the most amazing flight connectivity, while we’ve had to pay higher prices for less exciting destinations. However, as of 2022 there are now more airlines, flight routes, and direct international destinations than ever before.

That’s right Canadians, it’s time to travel. With the addition of many low-cost airlines to Canada’s sky, all the airlines have had to pull up their socks and give the best offerings possible, despite the pandemic, rising fuel costs, and staff shortages.

Canada now flies direct to more cities than ever before, and there are some great deals to be had.

But what airlines are new to Canada this year? And where do they fly? What are prices like? What about seats and bags?

This Canadian airline guide is going to go over:

    • ALL the major airlines operating in Canada, with info on the new ultra-low-cost airlines like Lynx, Swoop, and Jetlines
    • Every city they fly to
    • What some unique routes are for each airline
    • What sets them apart from the others, pros and cons
    • Info on seats and bags
    • Everything else you need to know about these Canadian airlines

    Air Canada

Air Canada, the nation’s flag carrier, is the biggest airline in Canada with the most destinations served. The actual Air Canada brand flies to a massive list of cities, and of course with its position in the Star Alliance, the ability to connect with 1-stop to almost any corner of the planet. Air Canada’s base is out of Montreal and is more popular with Eastern Canadians.

    air canada planes at airport

    Pros

    • Huge selection of destinations and routes
    • On average, more seat width, leg room, and baggage allowance than other Canadian airlines
    • The ability to earn and use popular Aeroplan points for flights
    • Multiple planes that feature business class, including lay-flat ‘pod’ type seats
    • Great network of lounges worldwide

    Cons

    • Can be one of the most expensive airlines to book on (although good deals can always be found)
    • Some people feel the brand and the vibe is a little old school when compared to the other airlines

    Seats and Leg Room

    • Economy: Air Canada has 18″ wide seats in economy on most of their planes, which is 1″ wider than most other airlines. They also have 31-34″ seat pitch/ legroom on most aircraft, except for some Rouge planes that only give 29″
    • Premium Economy: You’ll get a wider seat on almost every premium economy flight, with an average of 19-24″, with 37-38″ seat pitch / legroom, which is a great upgrade from economy.
    • Business: In a non-lay flat bed seat, business seats have an average width of 20-21″.

    Checked bags are free when:

    WestJet

WestJet is Canada’s 2nd biggest airline with its base in Calgary, making it a very popular option for Western Canucks. They’ve grown tremendously in the past 15 years and have added many new routes with no signs of slowing down.

    westjet 737 canada

    Pros

    • WestJet gets a better overall customer review score, outranking Air Canada
    • WestJet does have some code sharing with OneWorld and Skyteam, which helps with longer international trips.

    Cons

    • Many of WestJet’s planes, even the new ones, don’t have entertainment screens installed.
    • You have to be flying pretty far, like to Europe on one of their new 787s, in order to get any free food.
    • While WestJet used to be cheaper than Air Canada, in almost every case they now have identical pricing

    Seats and Leg Room

    • Economy: WestJet has 17″ wide seats in economy on most of their planes, which is 1″ less than Air Canada. They also have 31-36″ seat pitch/ legroom on most aircraft, so the planes with 34-36 give WestJet a huge legroom advantage.
    • Premium Economy: Most of WestJet’s Premium Economy (or ‘Plus’ seating), is the same seats as economy, but with the middle seat blocked off with a makeshift table, making the width the same as economy, 17″. A few planes have been retro-fitted with proper PE seats, those give 19-20″ width, and a massive 38″ seat pitch / legroom.
    • Business: On their 787’s, the business class seats turn into a lie-flat bed, with 21″ width and 46″ seat pitch / legroom.

    Swoop

Swoop is the largest new kid on the block when it comes to Canadian airlines, and probably the largest example of success when it comes to an ultra-low-cost airline in the country.

The tickets can be extremely cheap, think as low as $79 for international flights down to Mexico or the U.S., but know they charge for absolutely everything past that. If you are a light traveler, you can save some serious money with Swoop, plus they have routes the big guys don’t have. We flew the Kelowna – Winnipeg route when it first came out and did a full review.

    Pros

    • Incredibly low prices on airline tickets, we’ve seen prices as low as $29, which is something Canada hasn’t seen in decades.
    • Owned by WestJet, so you know the quality is there
    • The ability to fly direct on less popular routes that WestJet and Air Canada don’t operate

    Cons

    • You’re charged for absolutely everything. If you want to pick seats and bring lots of luggage, you can easily jack the price up as high as the major full-service carriers.
    • The routes, while seriously growing all the time, are still nowhere near AC or WJ’s offerings.
    • Planes are not as comfortable and really only offer 1-class of seating. The only way to score some extra leg room is to pick an emergency row or front of the plane, which can cost $25-50 extra.
    • Pets are not allowed on Swoop flights

    • Edmonton and Abbotsford to Mazatlan, Mexico (seasonal, winter)
    • Edmonton to San Diego, seasonal (summer, early fall)
    • Winnipeg to Kelowna, seasonal (summer, early fall)
    • Swoop had some other unique flights, like Kelowna to Las Vegas direct, that disappeared during the pandemic. Hopefully, they will soon return.

    Pet Policy

No. Swoop does not allow pets in the cabin, not even as service animals.

    Seats and Leg Room

Economy: Swoop only has economy seats, with an average of 29″ pitch / leg room, and 17″ inch wide seat. On available planes, the extra leg room seats that are available for purchase for $25-$50 at time of booking will get you another 4-6″ of leg room. (They go up in price if purchased later on.)

    Checked Bags

Checked bags have a cost on Swoop, and so does the time frame of when you buy them. All costs below are based on buying them at the same time the ticket is purchased. If you sign on and modify an existing booking to add a bag later, it’s an additional $10 fee, and if you add a bag at the airport, it’s an additional $20 fee. They also add a $2 summer and Christmas ‘peak’ fee to all baggage prices.

Short distance (less than 1000km) $36.75
    Medium distance (1000 to 3000km) $46
    Long distance (3000+km) $56.50

Checked bags are limited to 50 lbs

    Carry on Bags

Welcome to ultra-low-cost airlines where a carry-on bag costs money to bring on board. Swoop charges for carry-on and applies the same pricing matrix we talked about above. The best price is at booking, then $10 more afterward, and $20 more at the airport. Along with the $2 extra fee during summer and Christmas.

    Swoop max carry-on size: 21 x 9 x 15″

Short distance (less than 1000km) $36.75
    Medium distance (1000 to 3000km) $46
    Long distance (3000+km) $56.50

    A personal item is free on Swoop, but can’t exceed 16 x 6 x 13″

    Air Transat

Air Transat is Canada’s largest vacation and charter airline based out of Quebec. In 2021, Air Canada canceled their acquisition deal of the airline. The flights are mostly targeted at snowbirds going to the states and vacationers heading to Mexico, the Caribbean, and even some impressive European routes.

air transat plane in the air

    Pros

    • Great deals to both popular routes, like Los Angeles and Cancun, but also to some more unique places like Cartagena, Colombia and Malaga, Spain.
    • They have a ‘club’ class, which is very similar to a business class-type seat, offering very comfortable ways to vacation hotspots that other airlines don’t.
    • You can earn Aeroplan points on flight due to their agreement with the Star Alliance
    • Carry-on bags are free

    Cons

    • Many of the routes are extremely seasonal, so they won’t be available all year
    • Some planes have a 16.5″ wide seat in economy, which is a tight squeeze for many.
    • Pricing for the ‘Club’ cabin (which is a version of business class) can get quite pricey considering it’s not a full-service business class product. Deals can always be found, but the standard pricing can be eye-opening for a charter airline.

Where does Air Transat fly DIRECT?

Here is a list of cities that Air Transat currently flies to that can be reached with a direct non-stop flight.

    Unique Routes

Most of Air Transat’s routes are pretty unique, especially the southern and European destinations.

    • Toronto to Zagreb, Croatia
    • Toronto to Cartagena, Colombia
    • Montreal to Malaga, Spain
    • Montreal to Bordeaux, France
    • Montreal to Acapulco

    Pet Policy

Yes. Air Transat allows pets in the cabin. 1 cat or dog per passenger, with at least 72 hours notice, the kennel must count as the passengers carry-on allowance, the kennel can now exceed 17 x 9.5 x 10″, and a fee of $50 within Canada/U.S. or $100 internationally must be paid.

    Seats and Leg Room

Economy: Air Transat has seats as small as 16.5″ wide in economy, making them one of the smallest in the country, but some planes have the standard 17″ and a few aircraft with 18″. If you are concerned with getting a 16.5″ seat, check the flight on SeatGuru before you book. Seat pitch / legroom for economy is between 31-32″.
Club (Business): Air Transat has very roomy club seats averaging 20-22″ wide and 33-38″ seat pitch / legroom.

    air transat club class
Credit: Air Transat Club Class seats

    Checked Bags

Air Transat has a 50lb limit to checked baggage, even in their ‘club’ class.

When passengers book the flight only, economy is charged $35-90 for a checked bag, (based on distance) but get it free if a vacation package has been booked. Club class always gets a free checked bag.

    Carry-On Bags

Air Transat allows both a free carry-on bag and a personal item on all flights. Carry on bags have a size limit of 20 x 9 x 16″ and personal items have a size limit of 17 x 5 x 12

    Sunwing

Sunwing, like Air Transat, is the other major discount charter airline in Canada, offering cheap flights and vacation packages to sunny destinations. In March 2022, WestJet announced its deal to acquire Sunwing.

    Sunwing airline

    Pros

    • Sunwing operates out of almost every Canadian airport, even smaller ones like Regina SK, offering more vacation for Canadians who don’t live near major airports like Toronto.
    • They have really cheap vacation packages, including hotels. Sometimes the prices are so cheap it’s like getting the round-trip flight for free.

    Cons

    • Service is an issue, especially in pandemic times. It’s been well talked about that Sunwing has suspended food and beverage service on flights throughout the past few years, leaving passengers hungry. Imagine a 5.5 hour flight from Winnipeg to Mexico without anything to eat!
    • Seats are small and legroom is almost nonexistent
    • There is no premium economy or business on any flight. The only way to get any extra legroom is one row of emergency seating mid-plane.
    • The carry-on weight allowance is laughable and almost impossible to meet.

    Where does Sunwing fly DIRECT?

Here is a list of cities that Sunwing currently flies to that can be reached with a direct non-stop flight.

*Sunwing’s flights are FROM Canada to sunny destinations, and not really used for domestic routes

    Central America

    Liberia, Costa Rica
    Panama City, Panama

    Pet Policy

No. Pets are not allowed in the cabin on Sunwing unless they are a service animal.

    Seats and Leg Room

Economy: The seating is a little tight on Sunwing. They only fly a 737-type plane with one version of economy class, with seats that are 17″ wide and 29″ inches of seat pitch / leg room. Tall passengers will have an issue. The saving grace is if you’re able to book a seat in the emergency row, which gives you up to 10″ more leg room, depending on the aircraft.

    Checked Baggage

Sunwing allows passengers who’ve booked a total vacation package to bring one checked bag for free, while passengers who’ve only booked a flight with Sunwing will have to pay $21-$26.

The max weight for a checked bag is 50 lbs

    Carry On Bags

Sunwing allows all passengers to bring on a free personal item and 1 free carry-on bag. However, the carry-on weight rule is INSANELY regulated and extremely low weight at 11 lbs. Truth be told, most EMPTY carry-on bags weigh around 11lbs without any items inside. Sunwing checks every single bag and will simply not allow it on the plane if it’s over 11lbs, as there is no fee you can pay to allow for a heavier bag.

Carry-on bags have a size limit of 20 x 9 x 16″ and the personal item has a size limit of 9 x 11 x 5 (the smallest in the industry by far)

    Lynx

Lynx, a very new ULCC kid on the block, has launched in 2022 with some great routes to start. They are currently serving 10 cities across Canada, with fares as low as $49 on their 737 planes.

    Flair

Flair Airlines has been around for about 15 years, but recently went under a re-brand as they launched more routes, really trying to stick out in the Canadian market. They are not owned by any of the big guys… yet.. so they like to lead with the message they are independent.

    Carry-on Bags

Porter offers a personal item free of charge, and a carry-on is also free if booked on a Standard, Flexible, or Freedom type fare. The only fare type that must pay for a carry-on is the basic fare.

    Personal items have a size limit of 17 x 6 x 13″ and carry-on bags have a size limit of 16 x 9 x 22″ and 20 lbs.

    Jetlines

Jetlines is so new to Canada that at the time of writing this article (July 2022) they still don’t have their routes published. Jetlines will have its headquarters just outside of Toronto. They plan to start operations late summer / early fall 2022 and plan to fly within Canada and to the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean.

    Smaller regional Canadian airlines

In addition to all the above airlines, there are still more Canadian airlines to mention, especially for smaller regional routes. All of the below carriers offer important connections throughout the provinces and territories. Click on the carrier to see their current flight route map.

Canada has finally positioned itself to offer passengers more options than ever when it comes to air travel, and it looks like all the pent-up demand in 2022 is only driving this trend further.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bumped up the Dominican Republic to its Level 3: High Level of Covid risk category on Monday.

The Dominican Republic previously sat at a Level 2: Moderate risk for Covid since May, and the popular vacation destination is now officially listed at Level 3 with a number of other nations around the world. We’ve got all the details for travelers below.

CDC Rating System Overhaul: Information For International Travelers

The CDC restructured its Covid rating system this past April, which is one that was in place since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. In the update, the Level 4: Very High risk category was changed to Do Not Travel: Special Circumstances.

The switch bumped a lot of European nations from the Level 4 to Level 3 category, many of which still remain on the list.

At this time, there aren’t any countries in the new Level 4 category, but you can check for updates on the CDC’s website. To review, Level 2 means a “moderate” amount of risk and a Level 1 ranking is “low” risk when it comes to Covid.

Dominican Republic Is Now ‘High’ Risk – What Does This Mean For Travelers?

This new CDC Covid health-risk ranking means that all nations listed as Level 3 are currently at the highest degree of risk for the virus.

To get a Level 3 ranking, it means that there are more than 100 reported cases of Covid-19 out of 100,000 residents over a consecutive 28-day period. On top of the Dominican Republic, the Middle Eastern nation of Kuwait was added to the CDC’s Level 3 list this week.

While this means that travel is still permitted to the Dominican Republic, the CDC does offer some guidelines for tourists planning to visit the Caribbean nation now that Covid cases are rising throughout the region:

    • It’s recommended that all travelers be up to date with their vaccinations against the virus and to avoid travel if not fully vaccinated.
    • Because all travelers may still be at risk of contracting and spreading the virus even if they have received their vaccinations, it’s best to remain vigilant when visiting the Dominican Republic.
    • Carry a well-fitting face mask with you when you leave your hotel room and wear it in all public indoor spaces throughout your trip.
    • Follow all guidelines when traveling to and throughout airports (in the US and at your travel destination) during your trip.
    • The CDC also recommends taking a Covid viral test three days prior to departure or as close to your departure time as possible.

Dominican Republic Welcomed ‘Record-Breaking’ Amount Of Tourists In Spring 2022

Travel in the Dominican Republic has skyrocketed in 2022 as Covid health-related restrictions have been dropping around the world. The hype was so big that the nation actually broke its record for the highest number of international arrivals of all-time in April of 2022.

The Caribbean country welcomed a total of 626,000 travelers in April, which was the first time it received more than 600,000 international arrivals in a full calendar month. Travelers arrived via air and by cruise ship, with over 129,000 cruise ship passengers recorded in the Dominican Republic that month. The highest number of international arrivals to DR were US Americans as well as Canadian tourists.

Safety And Travel In The Dominican Republic

The popular Caribbean destination dropped its pre-departure testing and quarantine requirements for international travelers in October of 2020 and the country slowly began welcoming tourists back.

Throughout much of the pandemic, some restrictions were in place for travelers and locals alike on the ground, such as mandatory mask-wearing in public spaces as well as a nationwide evening curfew.

Entry Requirements For The Dominican Republic: An Overview

In 2021 and into 2022, some entry restrictions remained for unvaccinated travelers to the Dominican Republic, which included a Covid breathalizer test upon arrival at the airport. All arrivals that tested positive were subject to quarantine.

On top of randomized testing upon arrival, pre-departure tests were put in place for some international tourists during the Omicron wave last year but they’ve since been removed. And in April 2022, the Dominican Republic officially removed all of its Covid-related entry requirements for travelers.

With Covid and travel restrictions starting to feel more like yesterday’s news, travel is finally picking up after two years of being placed on an indefinite hold. Whether it’s domestic or international tourism, demand is back to pre-pandemic levels, and millions of Americans are eager to jet off to nearest paradise destination.

Happy Young Couple Wearing Summer Clothes Leaving The Airport Following International Travel

Even as the world reopens, travelling internationally still comes with its own set of non-Covid related rules tourists must observe. Those can range from holding a passport that will not expire within the next six months, to presenting proof of having enough financial resources and insurance covering the whole duration of the trip.

These are some of the most common requirements imposed on travelers by foreign countries, with the aim of strengthening their external borders and ensuring that those applying for an entry permit are genuine visitors. Naturally, U.S. citizens remain subject to these same entry rules, which can vary quite a lot depending on the destination.

Luckily, there are a handful of places where U.S. citizens enjoy (far) greater privileges, including being allowed to travel without a passport – and no, we are not about to remind you that Hawaii and Alaska, albeit remote, are still states within the Federation. Surprisingly, holding an ID card other than a passport can still get you much farther away.

More specifically, there are currently 7 destinations Americans can access just as smoothly as entering their own country, with no excessive bureaucracy! Ready to find out how far your status as a U.S. citizen can take you? Here’s the complete list of countries and territories accepting Americans, regardless of being passport holders:

    International Destinations

    Mexico

Playa Norte In Isla Mujeres Island, Quintana Roo, Mexican Caribbean, Riviera Maya, Mexico
    • Certain types of ID are valid for land crossings
    • Air arrivals must still carry a passport at all times

A little known-fact among travelers, Mexico in fact allows U.S. citizens to enter the country without holding a passport, as long as they travel via land. In order to be eligible, Americans must hold either a passport card, a Trusted Traveler ID (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST cards), or a state-issued Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL).

Similarly to a passport, a U.S. passport card includes its holder’s name, photo, birthplace and date of birth, a unique identification number for the purpose of verification, and an issue and expiry dates. The big difference is they are much more affordable than regular passports, costing only $30 to apply instead of $130.

Trusted Traveler Cards, on the other hand, are documents issued to ‘low-risk travelers’ for expedited clearance when traveling between the United States and Mexico. Alternatively, those residing in Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota, New York and Washington can apply for an EDL in the unlikely event they are driving all the way South to Mexico.

For those in the Southern U.S. hitting the road this summer, there are innumerable destinations in Mexico in close proximity to the border. One of our favorites include the seaside retreat of Puerto Peñasco, a city located in the state of Sonora, on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, and only a short three and a half hour drive away from Phoenix, Arizona.

Other border cities include the vibrant Tijuana, 20 miles south of San Diego, and Ciudad Juárez, part of a trans-border agglomeration with the Texan city of El Paso, though no U.S. state bordering Mexico issues EDLs as of now. Although Mexico allows Americans to enter with other forms of ID via land, passports are still the only valid document for air arrivals.

    Canada

View Of Parliament Hill In Ottawa, Canada
    • Several ID cards are accepted for both land and air arrivals
    • 180-day entry permit still applies to U.S. citizens

Sharing the longest international border in the world, the United States and Canada have multiple bilateral agreements that allow facilitated travel for each others’ citizens. Unlike all other foreigners, who either need a tourist visa or a Travel Authorization to enter Canada, Americans can visit the country simply by presenting a valid ID card.

This includes a passport, a passport card, or a NEXUS card: these can all be used on any transportation mode, such as flights, cars, ferries, trains, and buses. Conversely, Enhanced Driver’s Licenses or FAST cards are only accepted at land and sea borders. Americans are reminded they can stay in Canada for up to 180 days, per entry, regardless of the ID they use.

    Toronto City Skyline, Ontario, Canada

Countless destinations in Canada are located close to the U.S. border, or a stone’s throw away from a number U.S. cities, making cross-border trips incredibly easy. A prime example of that is the Niagara Falls, a world wonder shared by both countries and sandwiched between Buffalo, in the state of New York, and Niagara Falls (the city), in Ontario.

Spending a long weekend in the metropolitan Vancouver, or any of the quaint, historical towns that are part of Canada’s British Columbia province, is also quite feasible for residents of the U.S. state of Washington, while New England, especially the states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine enjoy direct road links to the French-English bilingual Quebec.

    Other U.S. Territories

Aerial View Of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Seen From An Airplane Window
    • National U.S. issued ID cards are valid documentation in all transportation modes
    • Starting May 3, 2023, REAL ID will be required

Beyond the mainland, the U.S. has a collection of unincorporated territories with their own distinct culture and national identities. Despite not being considered U.S. states, these overseas areas are an integral part of the country, meaning all Americans traveling from the continent are welcome – with or without passports.

When traveling from the U.S. to any of these territories, Americans are only required to present a valid ID. Starting May 3, 2023, all air travelers 18 years of age and older will be required to present REAL ID for flying within the U.S., such as a verifiable, REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, a state-issued EDL, or ordinary U.S. passports.

The U.S. territories accepting national ID cards for travel are:

    Puerto Rico

Female Hiker At El Yunque Peak, Puerto Rico

One of America’s favorite Caribbean destinations, Puerto Rico has recently dropped all Covid vaccination and testing requirements for mainland arrivals, allowing domestic visitors to enter restriction-free. Additionally, as it is an unincorporated U.S. territory, the island does not expect mainland Americans to carry a passport for identification.

Several nonstop flights to Puerto Rico are available from every major U.S. city, including Austin, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Forth Worth, Miami, New York and Philadelphia, just to name a few. Some of the most famous landmarks include the colorful Old Town In San Juan and Spanish colonial fortresses.

    U.S. Virgin Islands

Tourists Enjoying A Beach Day In St Thomas US Virgin Islands
    • St John
    • St. Croix
    • St. Thomas

Like Puerto Rico, the triad of Caribbean islands that make up the U.S. Virgin Islands archipelago are open with no health requirements. Luckily, there are direct flights to St. John, St. Croix, and St. Thomas from cities like New York, Miami, Washington, Chicago, Orlando, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, Baltimore (and many more).

Right now, all that Americans need when traveling to U.S. Virgin Islands is a driver’s license, or other state photo identity cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, when not in possession of other travel documents. From May 2023, REAL ID requirements will start applying to air passengers visiting the archipelago.

    Guam

Rock Formations On A Paradise Beach Location In Guam, United States Incorporated Territory

Ever heard of the small, picturesque Micronesian island that is Guam? It may be more challenging, and somewhat more expensive to visit than other destinations on this list, but it is yet another tropical hotspot allowing U.S. citizens to visit completely visa-free, and without requesting new passports in advance: national IDs are more than enough.

A U.S. overseas territory, it is home to some of the nation’s most beautiful beaches, incredibly well-preserved Spanish-era monuments and other sites of historical relevance, such as Asan Beach, where crucial World War II (WWII) events took place. Direct flights are only available from Honolulu with United Airlines.

    Northern Mariana Islands

Wide Aerial View Of Managaha Island In Northern Mariana Islands, Unincorporated Territory Of The United States

A group of 14 islands in total, out of which only 3 are developed tourist destinations (Saipan, Tinian and Rota), the U.S. Northern Mariana territory boasts sandy beaches, clear waters that are perfect for swimming, numerous dive sites and wildlife sanctuaries – a beautiful setting that hosted the Battle of Saipan, one of the bloodiest in WWII.

The only way for Americans to reach the Northern Marianas traveling on a verifiable driver’s license or other equivalent ID is taking a flight from the mainland U.S. to Honolulu, then onward to Guam, and finally to Saipan International Airport, serving the island of Saipan. All other flights leave from mainland China, Hong Kong, or South Korea.

    American Samoa

National Park In The Tutuila Island, American Samoa, Unincorporated Territory Of The United States
    • Tutuila
    • Aunuʻu
    • Ofu
    • Olosega
    • Taʻū
    • Swains (Uninhabited)
    • Rose Atoll (Uninhabited)

The American Samoa is a collective of seven South Pacific Islands graced with volcano views, tropical moist forests, and immaculate beaches where overtourism does not seem to be a concern. Pago Pago, the regional capital, provides the American Samoa’s only access to the outside world, with direct flights to and from Honolulu with Hawaiian Airlines.

As a U.S. unincorporated territory, these islands rely heavily on domestic tourism, with a majority of attractions centered in the capital and surrounding villages. From Pago Pago International Airport, visitors can fly to Fiti’uta, in the island of Taʻū, and Ofu, where secluded beaches and impressive nature can be found.

    Bottom Line

Young Male Traveler Holding Up A US Passport And A Boarding Card At The Airport

As Guam only has domestic connections to other mainland U.S. cities via Hawaii, and domestic flights to the Northern Mariana Islands, in turn, only depart via Guam, U.S. citizens flying without their passports must book tickets that do not include airside transit, or stopovers, in any territories that are not within the United States.

For more information on travel documentation, please visit the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website, where official guidance is available. When going abroad, Americans are advised to carry valid passports, even when other agreements are in place, as it is the most widely recognized document for international travel.

With millions of Americans looking to travel to celebrate Independence Day (4 July) – in the coming week or so – these are the most popular domestic destinations for U.S. travelers.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) has recently predicted that as many as 47.9 million people will travel during this year’s 4th July long weekend – with the vast majority of travelers (42 million) opting to travel to their holiday destination by road, even with the ever-increasing price of gas.

The city of Seattle in Washington State

They also revealed which cities are set to be the most popular for Americans looking to book a short vacation in their own country – and so let’s find out which domestic destinations these are.

With so many Americans looking to travel domestically over the July 4th weekend, it seems that there are a number of U.S. cities that are proving to be the most popular destinations for those looking to take advantage of the long weekend to celebrate Independence Day.

But, before we reveal the full top ten list – of the cities that are experiencing the largest number of flight, hotel and tour bookings – let’s first take a look at which three cities are expecting the most domestic travelers in just over a week’s time.

    3. New York (New York)

Sitting in the number three spot is the city of New York – which certainly offers a wide variety of things to do and see, as well as a huge number of accommodation options to choose from – including a variety of boutique hotels for those looking to celebrate their holiday in style.

Flying to New York is also becoming increasingly easier, and more convenient, from other cities around the country – with more and more airlines offering flights to and from the Big Apple.

Just recently Breeze Airways announced that it was launching its first flights to New York – with flights to and from some U.S. cities set to begin operating just in time for the 4th July weekend.

    2. Seattle (Washington)

The city that is proving to be the second-most popular destination for Americans looking to celebrate Independence Day away from their home is the largest city in Washington State, Seattle.

These Are The The Top 3 Destinations In Mexico For American Tourists This Summer

It seems Mexico’s friendly attitude to tourists throughout Covid will not be forgotten anytime soon. Even though other countries are open for travel again, it’s the freedom-loving Mayan heartland, where tourism has been allowed without interruptions throughout the whole pandemic, that continues to attract a record number of visitors.

As a result, three Mexican cities now feature on Allianz Travel Top 10 International Summer Destinations, the most out of any country listed. In fact, Mexico claims the top two entirely to itself, asserting its status as the King of Tourism – a title that will not be challenged anytime soon, despite Aruba, Jamaica, and the like all being back in the game.

Ready to find out which Mexican cities have won the hearts of the nation? Here are Mexico’s 3 top destinations for American tourists this summer:

Male Traveler Holding A US Passport Ahead Of International Travel

    Puerto Vallarta, Pacific Coast

Puerto Vallarta is arguably the Mexican Pacific Coast’s crown jewel, where the country’s best nightlife can be found, as well as countless sandy beaches and natural landmarks within close proximity to major urban centers. It is not only a summer, but a year-round favorite for vacationers, and ranks at number six on Allianz’ annual summer travel picks.

Up 3 slots since last year’s ranking, when it had already broken into the top 10 charting at a respectable number 9, Puerto Vallarta keeps growing in popularity among U.S. travelers, particularly due to the recent connection boost between the Mexican hub and several U.S. cities, and the the State of Jalisco’s unparalleled tourist offer.

With Covid being treated as endemic in Mexico, and Vallarta tourists no longer expected to follow pandemic-era regulations, such as mask-wearing and social distancing, the city is poised to climb even higher on future lists. According to Allianz, it is already Mexico’s third busiest summer destination for American travelers.

San Jose del Cabo, Pacific Coast

Colorful Historic Center Of San Jose Del Cabo, Pacific Coast Of Mexico

Number two on Allianz’ list for yet another year, San Jose del Cabo has been a permanent feature on the bucket list of millions due to its vast collection of clear water beaches and picturesque, colonial-style architecture. Additionally, it is one of a handful of places in Mexico where History and sightseeing lovers converge with laid-back beachgoers.

Cabo truly has it all: from world-renowned art galleries and Spanish-era missionary churches, to beautiful nature reserves where bird-spotting activities are widely promoted and, of course, miles-long sandy beach strips adorning the coast. Whether you’re looking to immerse yourself in Mexico’s rich past, or simply enjoy a day in the sun, this is the place to go.

Luckily, despite being a major entry point for Americans visiting Mexico, the Los Cabos International Airport serving San Jose has not experienced the same level of saturation seen in Mexico City, or Cancun Airport’s longer wait times. It is also only two and a half hours away flying from most cities in the Southern U.S., making it an ideal summer break.

    Cancun, The Caribbean

Aerial View Of Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexican Caribbean, Mexico

Claiming the coveted spot of America’s preferred vacay for the sixth year in a row, Cancun is further widening the gap between itself and all other Mexican, and non-Mexican destinations on Allianz’ list. Out of Mexico’s expected 40 million visitors this year, a sizable portion of Americans have selected Cancun as their destination for 2022.

According to Cirium, one of the world’s largest provider of data on aviation, there are currently 831 weekly flight routes between the U.S. and Cancun International, making it by far Mexico’s busiest – and most loved – summer destination. Now that a beach close to Cancun has been named the best in all of Mexico, we expect these impressive numbers to rise even higher.

Cancun is widely recognized as the gateway to the Mexico’s Caribbean Coast, dotted with white sand beaches and Mayan ruins of inestimable cultural relevance. Cancun International serves not only Cancun, but several small resort towns around the metropolis, such as Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres off the mainland.

What Other International Destinations Are On The List?

This year’s Allianz Top 10 International Summer Destinations list is available in full below:

Airplane Flying Over Tropical Sea At Sunset
    1. Cancun, Mexico
    2. San Jose del Cabo, Mexico
    3. Oranjestad, Aruba
    4. Montego Bay, Jamaica
    5. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
    6. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
    7. Nassau, The Bahamas
    8. Liberia, Costa Rica
    9. Providenciales Island, Turks & Caicos
    10. Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands

But how has Allianz been able to establish that? In sum, researchers looked at data from over a million trips to be taken by their own customers over the summer season, especially those who purchased an Allianz Partners travel insurance between 5 and 8 days. Unsurprisingly, Mexico came out ahead of all other competitors with the most planned itineraries.

For the restriction-wary, all of the destinations above are welcoming American tourists with no health-related requirements, with the exception of Nassau in The Bahamas and Providenciales Island in Turks & Caicos. Those two countries require travelers to be fully vaccinated, or present a negative Covid as valid proof of entry when unvaccinated.

Las Vegas Will Be One Of The Busiest Destinations In The U.S. This Summer

Planning a long weekend in Vegas? You may want to hurry up with bookings as Sin City is about to receive a record number of visitors this summer – and hotel prices could increase even further. In fact, the number of passengers transiting Harry Reid International, the main airport serving the city, is now up 7% compared to 2019.

This officially makes Vegas one of the busiest destinations in the U.S. this summer.

Now that most social curbs in the United States are gone, and even pre-departure testing for international arrivals has been removed, the Entertainment Capital of the World is back with a vengeance. Exciting as it sounds, it remains to be seen whether that’s good – or bad news – for Vegas-bound vacationers.

After all, we have all seen how pent-up demand for travel following Covid can drive prices up… Dramatically:

Harry Reid Is The Best Performing Airport Out Of 20 Surveyed International Hubs

Having officially surpassed pre-pandemic figures, Vegas is experiencing a strong economic rebound after two years of stagnation resulting from the pandemic. Heavily dependent on the entertainment industry, the city’s growth had been curtailed by the endless loop of Covid restrictions enacted by the U.S. Government in their attempts to halt the virus.

Luckily, the vast majority of Covid mandates have been lifted nationwide, and that includes the state of Nevada, where mask usage is no longer enforced and gathering limits have been scrapped. As a result, Harry Reid International has already exceeded pre-pandemic capacity based on May-June 2022 figures alone.

While it still ranks lower in terms of overall passenger numbers, Las Vegas’ airport has seen the fastest recovery among the world’s main international hubs. According to data published by global travel data provider OAG, it has outpaced every other airport in the top twenty, handling over 2.6 million passengers, or 7% more than it did prior to Covid.

Travelers Transiting An International Airport, Busy Airport Concept

In comparison, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International handled 4.6 million passengers – higher numbers, but still 16% less than they did in June 2019. Chicago O’Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth are experiencing a similar decrease in demand, registering 19.5 and 2.6% less passengers, respectively, compared to the pre-Covid era.

Besides Harry Reid International, out of all the U.S. airports that made it to the OAG top twenty, only Charlotte Douglas International saw a slight increase in demand (3.5%) this year. Even then, it still lags behind Sin City’s 7%, making it one the most sought-after destinations in the U.S. this summer based on air traffic alone.

What Does This Mean For Vegas-Bound Travelers?

As we have seen in recent weeks, the lifting of the U.S. testing requirement for international arrivals and the reopening of several touristy spots has triggered a travel frenzy worldwide. Consequently, prices have been rising sharply across most of the hospitality sector, with overnight stays costing up to 50% more than they used to in some destinations.

Spirit Aircraft Pictured In Las Vegas, Possibly Harry Reid International Airport, Ahead Of Taking Off

While it has not been affected in the same level as Miami, one of its strongest competitors in the summer travel market, similar price hikes cannot be ruled out in Sin City. Several Stateside destinations have been facing staffing constraints amid the current travel boost, and may not be able to cope with the influx of tourism.

Unlike Florida and most of its U.S. counterparts, which have been plagued by some major disruption lately, Vegas has been doing relatively well so far. Harry Reid International has reported far fewer flight delays and cancellations since the start of the season, indicating it has better chances of escaping 2022’s chaotic summer with most of its schedule fulfilled, if not unscathed.

Vegas Is Managing Just Fine… At The Minute

There have also been fewer reports of staff shortages coming out of Vegas-based resorts, hotels and casinos compared to other domestic destinations. Even then, Nevada’s number one destination is surely not immune to the issues facing the travel industry. With the testing rule for international air passengers now gone, it could see arrival figures go through the roof.

As demand rises amid limited availability, so does the cost of flight tickets and hotels. Vegas may have rooms in abundance to make it through the season, but the supply isn’t unlimited. This means Vegas-bound travelers are strongly advised to complete their bookings ASAP before the crowds return and expenses start mounting up.

  • Brown Smelly Seaweed Called Sargassum Invading Most Popular Caribbean Destinations

Brown Smelly Seaweed Called Sargassum Invading Most Popular Caribbean Destinations

    [ad_1]

    Last Updated

A brown, smelly seaweed called sargassum is invading most popular destinations in the Caribbean, potentially ruining the vacations of millions of travelers this summer. Whilst most travelers head to the Caribbean in search of soft sand, clear blue seas and a vacation that’s a treat for all the senses, the reality this summer could be quite different – with top destinations such as Cancun, Punta Cana and Jamaica all recently succumbing to long, tough battles with the foul smelling algae.

Whilst it isn’t exactly a new problem, the unfortunate timing of the sargassum invasion comes just as many travelers were looking forward to going overseas once more after years of travel hell during the pandemic, meaning their long awaited travels are in serious jeopardy of being spoiled by the seaweed. Here’s a look at what sargassum is, which destinations have been affected by it and how the battle to remove it from beaches is going.

What Is Sargassum? Information For Travelers

Sargassum is a type of brown algae that frequently washes up on beaches across the Caribbean and even the United States. As the mountains of beached seaweed rots, it releases hydrogen sulfide – a gas which has an unpleasant odor similar to rotten eggs. Despite being completely harmless to humans, the unsightly and stinky nature of the rotting sargassum means that it runs the risk of ruining beach based activities for potentially millions of travelers this summer.

Where Is Sargassum Causing Problems? What Travelers Should Know

Sargassum is a serious issue in Mexico, where the presence of the seaweed has a huge negative impact on tourism. Cancun is expecting its worst sargassum season in five years, which is bound to affect local tourism levels and see travelers pick more sargassum-free areas to visit instead, such as Los Cabos. Extreme solutions have been mooted, such as the installation of a 60km-long sea barrier, as the country works to address the issue.

The Mexican Navy has also been working to prevent the seaweed from reaching the beach for years, with little success. This year, by using tools such as boats and nets, the Navy only managed to collect around 1% of the total amount of sargassum from the coast. The Navy cited equipment failures as the reason they have failed to prevent more from washing up on the beach, and lead them to conclude that they have failed in their efforts.

However, Mexico isn’t the only country to be suffering from the stinky seaweed. Sargassum has also invaded several beaches in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with large concentrations found near the Iberostar Selection Bavaro and the Bahia Principe Punta Cana hotels in particular. Rather than the pristine beaches travelers are used to in the region, they are faced with unappealing, smelly, brown beaches – with the problem expected to worsen in the coming months.

    Sargassum washed up on beach

Like Mexico, the Dominican Republic has tried in vain to control the spread of sargassum. A 12.7km barrier was installed to prevent it from reaching beaches, and armies of hotel workers attempted to clean them up, but it is expensive and time-consuming work. Like it has in previous years, the prevalence of sargassum is expected to have a negative impact on the number of hotel bookings in the region.

Jamaica’s National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) also warned that the country could be set for a significant influx of sargassum over the coming months. Several beaches in the parishes of St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas and St. Catherine are already suffering from its presence, with the agency explaining that the prevalence of sargassum in the Caribbean is part of the “new normal”. Barbados too is also suffering from a sargassum invasion, with the problem expected to spread further throughout the region this summer.

Top 10 Destinations To Visit In The United States According To U.S. News

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

The latest editions of the U.S. News & World Report travel rankings have been released, with a list of the best destinations to visit in the U.S. issued as part of their findings. The list was created by using a 50/50 mix of both user scores and editorial staff scores, a wide range of criteria was considered before each destination found its spot on the list. Here’s a look at the destinations in the U.S. that made the top 10.

    10. New York City

Not only a top destination in the U.S. but a major attraction the world over, New York City has long since been the poster child for a modern-day metropolis. Home to some of the world’s best eateries, museums, galleries, and events, New York City offers travelers a wealth of attractions that they’re unlikely to exhaust, even in several trips to the city.

If the skyscrapers and busy streets get a bit too much, travelers can retreat to Central Park, one of the most famous parks in the country and a true New York Landmark. Easily serviceable by road, rail or air, the Big Apple shines in all seasons and caters to all crowds, making it worthy of a place in any top 10 list.

    9. Grand Teton National Park

The first of several National Parks to feature in the list, Grand Teton stands out from the crowd thanks to its dramatic Teton mountain range, which erupts abruptly from the ground and jut fiercely into the heavens.

Located north of Jackson, Wyoming, and close to Yellowstone (but far from its shadow), Grand Teton’s snow-capped peaks serve as the perfect backdrop to a range of outdoor activities that are popular here, such as mountaineering and hiking, whilst adventures often give way to hidden gems such as waterfalls, streams and a vast array of wildlife.

    8. Kauai

It takes a lot to stand out as a Hawaiian island, yet Kauai manages it with ease. Hawaii’s very own Garden Island is renowned for its stunning coasts, canyons, and mountains, whilst an absence of garish towering resorts and thronging crowds only serves to enhance its natural charms further. Perfect for outdoorsy types, with its abundance of trails, biking routes, and water sports, Kauai has more than earned its spot on this list, with the island’s very own Poipu Beach considered amongst the world’s best.

    7. Honolulu – Oahu

Despite being markedly different from Kauai, Honolulu – Hawaii’s state capital located on the island of Oahu – still bears many similarities. Undeniably beautiful, with awe-inspiring locations such as Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, and Hanauma Bay, Honolulu also caters to a more cosmopolitan crowd, with luxury resorts, top dining opportunities, and shopping facilities all readily available for travelers to take advantage of. The best of both worlds when it comes to natural beauty and a big city feel, there are plenty of reasons why so many travelers flock to the shores of Honolulu each year.

    6. Zion National Park

Whilst this may be a list of the best destinations in the US, travelers would be forgiven for thinking that a trip to Zion National Park had accidentally transported them to another planet.

The park’s pink, orange, and red-hued sandstone cliffs resemble something of an alien landscape, and can be explored up close with a spot of canyoneering that will take you to the base of the cliffs. Rivers that weave through the canyons can also be explored, either through wading, swimming, or tubing, whilst camping at the park provides the opportunity to wake up some of the best views in the country. If a tent isn’t your thing, there are plenty of places to stay located in the surrounding area.

    5. Glacier National Park

Located in Montana, Glacier National Park is yet another example of the United States’ amazing national parks. The park is one of the few places travelers can see glaciers in the US, with as many as 25 of these floating ice masses located here, but it has so much more to offer – including an abundance of lakes to explore. It’s an all-year-round destination, with winter providing ample opportunity to take part in cross country skiing and snowboarding, and the other seasons prove a hit with hikers and rock climbers.

Glacier allows travelers to embrace their inner adventurer by going horseback riding, ice-fishing, and camping out under the stars. Whether exploring on two legs, four legs, on wheels or on a kayak, the park rewards its visitors with stunning vistas at every corner and is well worth a visit.

    4. Maui

Much like its sister islands, Maui is a veritable feast of dramatic landscapes and wild topography that draws huge numbers of travelers each year. This lush island is more than just sandy beaches and quiet coves, boasting lush green valleys and volcanic landscapes that are just as rewarding to be explored in a helicopter as they are on foot.

Maui’s world-class beaches serve as a gateway to some top snorkeling sites, whilst back on terra firma the island’s charming towns give travelers a chance to sample island life at its most natural and authentic best. Spend an evening strolling down Front Street or watching the sunset from a beach, and it’s easy to see why Maui made the cut.

    3. Yosemite

Situated around California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite is the perfect destination for travelers looking to reconnect with the great outdoors. The park is home to some of the most attractive natural features in the country, such as the famous El Capitan rock formation and the ancient giant sequoia trees, and plays host to a diverse range of wildlife including bears, bobcats, and river otters.

Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil Falls are must-visit locations for waterfall enthusiasts, and there are hiking trails of several difficulties and durations to make sure that no travelers feel left out. One of the United States’ most famous destinations, it’s a testament to the glory of nature and serves breathtaking beauty at every corner.

    2. Yellowstone

Only open for a few months of the year, Yellowstone’s 2.2 million acres and 10,000 thermal features are the very definition of a must-visit destination. Whilst the main draw is Old Faithful – a geyser that can erupt more than 50m – the park has so much more to offer travelers. It’s one of the best places to see natural hot springs, which dazzle in their multi-colored splendor, and is also home to some fantastic hiking trails.

Wildlife is also another attraction, with the park home to grizzly bears, wolves, bison and moose to name but a few species. Travelers can also take part in various activities on Yellowstone river, such as fishing and rafting. As the United States’ first national park, it stakes a strong claim that it’s America’s best.

    1. Grand Canyon

One of the United States’ most instantly-recognizable and famous landmarks, the Grand Canyon has been crowned the top destination in the country. Visiting the canyon – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is a transformative, inspiring experience; stretching as far as the eye can see, the shapes, colors and majesty of the canyons can scarcely be captured on camera and must be seen to be truly appreciated.

Beautiful as it is, it’s more than just a pretty view; travelers can hike, swim, raft, pedal, and climb their way around different stretches of the canyon and are all-but-guaranteed good weather and better views as they do it. Providing visitors with a trip that is quintessentially American, no travelers that have visited the canyon would argue against its place on this list.

    Corfu

Close behind Porto was the Greek island of Corfu, which had a 61% increase in search volume. With its pristine coastline, dramatic sheer rock faces, deep blue sea – and not to mention fresh, healthy cuisine – it’s easy to see why Corfu looks set to be a hit this summer. It’s also extremely easy to visit, with Greece having removed all of its Covid-19 related entry requirements.

    Lake Como

With a 44% increase in searches, Italy’s spectacular Lake Como is the third most trending destination. With views of the huge, sprawling lake long since dominating the social media pages of travel bloggers and pages alike, it seems as though all that daydreaming of escaping to Como during lockdown is set to come true this summer. Like with Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative Covid-19 test result in order to be able to enter.

    Mallorca

Known for its beaches, Spanish architecture, and wineries, the Spanish island of Mallorca is trending with a 35% increase in searches. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca’s charms have been wooing Europeans for decades, and is now firmly in the crosshairs of travel-starved people the world over. Travelers to Spain must be fully vaccinated – with a booster if the latest shot was taken more than nine months ago. The country recently made changes to allow unvaccinated travelers to enter with a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 24 hours.

    Mykonos

The second Greek island to feature on the list, it seems travelers have been dreaming posing amongst a backdrop of traditional blue and white Greek buildings once more. Searches for Mykonos rose 32%, with the island equally as popular with young people embracing the party side of then as it is with families looking for a more laid-back experience.

    tourists shopping in Mykonos, Greece

Few cities are as breathtaking as Istanbul – an opinion clearly shared by the masses as it received a 26% increase in searches. The city has it all; from the historical remnants of empires gone by littered all over the city, to a thriving nightlife scene – not to mention sprawling bazaars, passionate locals and stunning views – Istanbul is worthy of a place on any traveler’s list. Fully vaccinated travelers with proof don’t need to test before entering, whilst unvaccinated travelers must show either a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 48 hours.

Having long since established itself as a firm favorite amongst travelers the world over, the most famous party island in the world looks set to go back into full swing this summer, with interest in Ibiza soaring by 26%. Like Mykonos, there’s more to their island than its clubs, with the north end proving to be much calmer and its beautiful beaches catering to all types of traveler.

    Ibiza Party Boat

With the vast majority of Thailand’s entry hurdles now removed, the wildly popular destination is back in business. Searches for Phuket – the country’s largest and most popular island – rose by 26%, with travelers keen to explore the nightlife of Patong or scenic beaches of Rawai, Kata and Nai Harn once more. All travelers to Thailand must have a Thailand Pass, which can be applied for here – but it looks as if this requirement could be on its way out over the next few weeks.

With the cost of both international air travel and hotel bookings abroad reaching expensive new highs over the past few weeks, domestic travel around the US is the perfect way to enjoy a great trip without having to worry too much about how to afford it – and there’s still so much that destinations at home have to offer travelers.

Whether heading to big cities or charming towns, or to breaks by the beach or in the country, travelers in the US are blessed to have so many options on their doorsteps – and so many different ways of reaching them. Here’s a look at which destinations made the cut to be crowned some of the top options for travelers this summer, plus a closer look into how the list was curated.

Top Domestic Destinations – Information For Travelers

The study into which domestic destinations are the best for US travelers this summer was conducted by the personal finance company WalletHub. The company developed a ranking system that took into account a range of different metrics such as travel costs, the attractions a destination has to offer, what the weather will be like, the safety of the destination and how expensive it is.

The study was wide-ranging in its scope, with a  total of 100 of the largest metro areas in the US being assessed across the 43 different metrics in order to determine which destination is the top one for travelers this summer. Once the study was complete, it was the metropolitan area of Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford in Florida that came out in first place – just one of several destinations in Florida to feature in the top 20 of the list.

Orlando took the top spot with a score of 69.97 according to WalletHub’s index. The city’s impressive range of activities – notably Disney World and Universal Studios – saw it take top spot when ranked on activities alone, whilst it also performed strongly in the safety and attractions metric. Other Florida destinations that performed well included Tampa in third place, Miami-Fort Lauderdale in 11th and Jacksonville in 14th spot.

For travelers looking to save on travel expenses, Santa Rosa in California was judged to be the destination with the lowest costs and fewest hassles, with Cincinnati, Ohio and Minneapolis, Minnesota close behind. In terms of saving money when you get there, McCallen, Texas was found to be the cheapest destination, with Tulsa, Oklahoma and Augusta, Georgia the second and third cheapest respectively.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was Honolulu that came top when it came to the best weather – making it the perfect destination for travelers looking for a beach getaway. The survey found that Chicago was the top destination in terms of attractions, with Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, and San Francisco also cited as cities with a lot to offer, making them ideal spots for those who like to get out and about and seize the day on their vacations.
