It’s easy to become star-struck with the many different international destinations that are predicted to be trending in 2024.

Far-flung destinations like Tokyo or Dubai may be the ones of a lot of people’s lips right now, but there are destinations closer to home that have travelers talking.

One such location is California’s Napa Valley – a region that has been gaining international acclaim over the past year.

Known for its excellence as a distinguished wine region, Napa Valley has plenty more to offer besides tasting sessions, which is perhaps why it looks set to be a trending destination in the United States for 2024.

It’s Getting International Recognition

It really does seem like Napa Valley is catching on in a big way on the international scale.

The region was recently named the number one trending destination in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards, as well as being included in Travel and Leisure’s prestigious Best Places To Travel in 2024 list.

And last year, the Napa town of Sonoma was named as a top trending destinations in the U.S. too – it’s hard to ignore when a place is consistently so highly regarded.

Award-Winning Venues

Napa Valley is one of only 12 wine regions in the world to be part of the Great Wine Capitals program – and the only one in North America.

Recently, it was bestowed with several major honors as part of the Great Wine Capitals 2024 Best of Wine Tourism awards.

Seven different Napa venues picked up awards across seven different categories including Four Seasons Resort & Residencies (Accommodations), Trefethen Family Vineyards (Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences), and Oakville Grocery & Wine Merchant (Wine Tourism Restaurants).

You Can Visit Year-Round

Naturally, the summer is a great time to visit Napa, with temperatures regularly hitting the low 80s from June to September.

Fall is also one of the most popular times as its harvest season for many grapes, so you may be able to witness first-hand one of the key stages of winemaking.

But even winter is not such a bad time to head on down to Napa – while it can be a little rainier than usual, temperatures usually hit the high 50s, and when it is sunny, it feels pleasantly warm compared to many places in the country.

Huge Choice Of Flights

Napa Valley is incredibly well serviced by several major airports, including San Francisco International, Oakland International, Sacramento International, and Sonoma County Airport.

All these airports are within a two-hour drive of the region, and the sheer volume of choice means you can nearly always find a cheap flight.

Hiring a car is one way to get there from these airports, alternatively from San Francisco you can catch a ferry to Vallejo and then use a transit bus from there known as the Vine.

More Than Just Wineries

While the Napa Valley region may be home to more than 400 different wineries, a nice glass of your preferred tipple is not the only reason to consider visiting this region.

There are some world-class golf courses in the area such as Silverado and Mount Saint Helena Golf Club, as well as the opportunity to absorb some of the fascinating history at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville – it’s just $5 to go in.

Hangover Cures As Standard

Napa Valley is actually a great area for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as wine lovers.

The beautiful hills surrounding the valley are ideal for taking a cycling tour, which could help you sweat out your hangover if you overindulged a little on Napa’s finest produce.

You could even ease your weary head by taking a peaceful hot air balloon ride over the gold and green vistas – it’s perfect at sunset or sunrise.

The Event Scene Is Popping

There are many annual events held in the Napa Valley region that are growing in popularity with each passing year.

Naturally, many of them center around food and drink, such as the Napa Truffle Festival in January, or Calistoga’s Harvest Table in September.

There are also plenty of events for the more active including the Napa Valley Marathon in March, or for music lovers with several major festivals such as Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, Blue Note Jazz Festival, or Napa Porchfest.

These 3 Destinations Could See Record-Breaking Sargassum Invading Beaches Soon

At certain times of the year sargassum seaweed is unavoidable in many Caribbean beach destinations. But a massive seaweed invasion has the potential to ruin your vacation.

Sargassum seaweed can impact the appearance of your favorite beach; it can be smelly, and in some cases, it can even create a hazardous environment for humans.

Hoping to plan your next vacation to avoid sargassum?

A new report has found that these 3 destinations could see record-breaking sargassum seaweed invading beaches soon:

Mexico

The unattractive and inconvenient sargassum is expected to arrive in Mexico by April or May.

This could result in beaches that are overrun with brown seaweed and are difficult for travelers to enjoy.

The good news is that Mexican authorities take sargassum seaweed very seriously.

The Quintana Roo Technical Council for Sargassum Management is already following the path of this year’s sargassum mass and plans to deal with this seaweed before it reaches the most popular beaches in the region.

Tulum has invested heavily in 5 new anti-sargassum vessels and other equipment to stop any of the sargassum from reaching the shore.

If you want to plan a sargassum-free vacation to Mexico in April or May then you could consider traveling to Mexico’s Pacific coast and destinations like Puerto Vallarta rather than to the Mexican Caribbean.

Pacific beaches aren’t impacted by sargassum seaweed in the Atlantic because this seaweed doesn’t migrate to the Pacific. Some of the prettiest beaches in Mexico are also located here, although the waters are a darker blue color and not quite as warm as they are in the Caribbean.

Florida

Florida is the U.S. State most widely impacted by sargassum, and just like in Mexico, the report says that it will arrive on Floridian beaches by April or May this year.

Most municipalities have plans in place for the removal of sargassum. This includes the use of tractors to manually remove as much sargassum from the beaches as possible. But when too much sargassum piles up on Florida’s beaches this can restrict beach access.

Sargassum is unpredictable. Though forecasters can say when they think it might appear, it is impossible to know exactly when, where, and how much seaweed will wash up on Florida’s beaches at any given time.

But you might want to consider booking a resort with a good pool complex so you’ll still have somewhere to relax and unwind by the water if sargassum makes relaxing on the beach impossible.

Caribbean

Although less widely publicized than in Mexico, the Caribbean struggles with sargassum seaweed on its beaches.

The large sargassum mass is expected to arrive in the northern Antilles by the beginning of February and will reach the Dominican Republic in March.

Jamaica, The Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic are 3 of the Caribbean islands most impacted by sargassum, but relatively few areas of the Caribbean aren’t affected.

Both manual labor and machinery are used to remove sargassum from beaches in the Caribbean before being moved to locations away from the beach.

Why Is Sargassum Problematic?

Sargassum seaweed is a naturally occurring brown algae bloom. Wondering whether you should still plan a vacation if your chosen resort beach is covered in sargassum seaweed?

While sargassum serves an important purpose when it is in the ocean on the shore, it is unattractive and releases a smell that is similar to either manure or rotten eggs. Not exactly the relaxing beach vacation you were dreaming of!

As well as being unsightly, there are also risks when beaches are covered in sargassum. Although sargassum beaches are generally safe to swim in, they look brown and uninviting. The sargassum can also feel uncomfortable when it scratches against your skin.

After 48 hours of being on the beach, sargassum starts to rot. When it rots it releases hydrogen sulfide which is a skin irritant and can also be hazardous to anyone with a respiratory problem like asthma.

But many resorts work hard to remove sargassum from their beaches for the comfort and convenience of their guests.

You should consider checking with your hotel or the local authorities that your closest beach is located in to make sure they have a management plan in place for the sargassum’s removal.

Beach webcams can also be handy for assessing what the current sargassum situation is in your chosen destination. And arrange to spend time by the pool or other activities away from the beach so that your vacation won’t be ruined if the beach isn’t accessible during your trip.

Why This Beach Town Will Be One Of The Top Destinations In Mexico For 2024

Americans have been bitten by the travel bug once more now that normality has been reinstated worldwide, and whether it’s destinations closer to home or exotic-sounding foreign places, they are taking to the skies passport in hand in droves.

However, there is one destination in particular they seem to be drawn to the most:

With its long miles of sandy shoreline, licked by waters of the brightest blue, and dotted with resorts competing among each other for titles of grandest, best, and most luxurious, Tulum seems to be on everyone’s radar these days.

It may be a tried-and-true beach hotspot, but 2024 looks set to be its biggest year yet, with more exciting developments on the way:

Incredible Luxury Resorts

Tulum is primarily a resort destination, and ‘resort’ is truly what it does best, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing: nowhere in Mexico, or in Latin America as a whole, will you find the same kind of exceptional, award-winning hospitality you do here.

The town is essentially geared towards tourism, and somewhere you would go for splurging on a colossal, state-of-the-art, all-inclusive beachfront hotel; gentrification controversies aside, it is the perfect place for first-time Stateside visitors, as it can feel very Americanized:

English is widely spoken within resorts, which means you won’t have to brush up on your inexisting Spanish, guests will hardly ever feel homesick what with the numerous American-style diners and huge expat community living in town, and the tourist-friendly nature of the beaches.

Mexico for beginners, if you will. Not that that’s a bad thing.

A Rising Cultural Hub

Tulum may be the Mexican Caribbean’s resort capital, but unbeknown to most, it is a cultural destination in the making.

Granted, it is not quite there yet, compared to the cultural centers that are Merida or Valladolid, also in the Yucatan Peninsula, but its historical value and heritage are being highlighted through several state-led efforts in a bid to diversify the tourist offer.

One such example is the opening of a new Frida Kahlo Museum in the vicinity of the archaeological zone.

Though Kahlo has no known links to Tulum, having grown up and spent most of her life in the village of Coyoacán, now a district of Mexico City, this new cultural center will help introduce resort guests to the iconic Mexican painter and divisive 20th-century figure, without requiring them to travel far.

Additionally, Tulum is home to one of Mexico’s most famous ancient structures: El Castillo, a pre-Hispanic fort that is part of a wider Mayan ruined settlement and sits perched on a cliff face towering over white sands and overlooking the bright-blue Caribbean.

You see? Tulum is not all about beaches – even when there are beaches involved.

Tulum Is Ridiculously Safe

Tulum is much safer than it ever was before, too.

While the Mexican Caribbean as a whole is a pretty low-risk destination, as the American State Department affirms themselves through their classification of a majority of states in the Yucatan Peninsula as Level 2 or 1, the odd criminal event has occurred in the past.

This has mostly taken the form of gang disputes in suburban areas in Cancun, Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, and other major urban centers, but these have not been known to either directly or indirectly affect innocent tourists.

As a matter of fact, there has not been a single instance where a visitor was harmed or lost their life due to violence when vacationing in Tulum in the last year or even earlier, proving it is perfectly safe for visiting, especially now that ‘thousands of troops’ are being deployed.

According to the Cancun Sun, patrolling will intensify heavily in Tulum this season, helping keep tourists protected.

A New Airport And Scenic Train

Finally, this winter, the town will see the opening of a brand new international airport, linking it to a number of destinations across Mexico and in the United States, as well as the launch of the Maya Train, calling at Downtown Tulum.

The Maya Train was officially launched on December 1, though not all routes are immediately operational.

It may be a while longer until service from Tulum starts, but once it is fully implemented, the train will link the Caribbean town to all other Mayan Riviera spots, such as Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Porto Morelos, greatly facilitating travel and making it safer for visitors to get around.

As for the airport, there have been 6 U.S. hubs so far to announce nonstop links to Tulum International Airport, including New York (Newark), Houston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

As demand for Tulum increases, however, we expect more routes to be confirmed soon.

Travel is most definitely back. In Europe especially, the rebound in travel and tourism has been exceptional in the past year, and there’s data to prove it.

New info from Eurostat shows that the number of nights spent in tourist accommodations in 2023 exceeded 2.9 billion – a new record, which puts it ahead of the figure for 2019.

And there were two countries in Europe that lead the way in terms of their year-on-year tourism growth – and they both happen to be beautiful island paradises.

Malta and Cyprus both recorded growth in nights spent in tourist accommodations of over 20% in 2023, proving their overall popularity among travelers.

So, just why have these two countries done so well in the last year? And will this popularity surge continue into 2024? Here are a few reasons why we think it will…

Sun-Soaked And Serene

One of the first and most obvious reasons why both Cyprus and Malta are hugely popular among travelers is the excellent climates they both have.

Cyprus is in the very east of the Mediterranean, just south of some of Turkey’s amazing Turquoise Coast and enjoys long, hot summers with minimal rainfall.

Even in winter, Cyprus is relatively mild, offering temperatures of around 60F and consistently clear and sunny days.

Malta lies in the central region of the Mediterranean just off the south coast of Sicily in Italy – it also boasts impressive annual weather, amassing more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year.

Both islands are blessed with beautiful beach destinations with top-quality hotels and resorts – some of the most stunning include Ghajn Tuffieha Bay in Malta and Pissouri Beach in Cyprus.

Amazing Sights And Culture

In Malta, you will find ancient history and megalithic temples in rural areas, while the capital city, Valletta, offers regal palaces, impressive cathedrals, and quaint cobbled streets that feel like they belong to Europe, Asia, and Africa all at once.

In Cyprus, there are even more impressive archeological sites such as the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos and St Hilarion Castle in the north of the island.

Both Malta and Cyprus are heavily influenced by the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean as well as by Northern Africa, Asia, and the Arab world.

Perfect For Off-Season Travel

While summer is a good time to visit both these countries, they are notorious for being very hot and often busy in the main resort towns.

Places such as Paphos in Cyprus can get particularly overrun with tourists during the prime time in the middle of summer.

However, due to their great climates and year-round sunshine, both these locations make ideal places to visit in the shoulder or even off-season.

You can make great savings on hotels, food, and excursions if you visit in fall or winter, and you’ll be less bothered by large crowds.

There are usually still plenty of flights to both countries in the quieter months.

There are no direct flights to either from the United States, but there are many different one-stop flight options via various other European destinations. Maybe you could turn a trip to Malta or Cyprus into a larger Euro tour?

They Can Be Budget-Friendly

It can be quite expensive to stay in the most luxurious all-inclusive resorts in Malta and Cyprus, but it’s also possible to see them both on a modest budget too.

Malta is certainly the cheaper of the two nations, with the latest data from Lonely Planet estimating you can get a basic hotel room for around $70 per night, while public transport can cost as little as $2 per trip.

Cyprus is a touch more expensive, but you can still manage hotels or Airbnbs for around $100 per night or less, while food here should cost $30-40 for a meal in a restaurant for two.

Safe And Welcoming

Both Malta and Cyprus are well-established tourist destinations and are very safe places to visit.

The U.S. Department of State ranks both countries at a Level 1, which is the safest possible rating, while they both rank highly on the most recent Global Peace Index.

Malta is part of the Schengen Area, so American travelers can enter for 90 days without a visa.

While Cyprus is not yet in the Schengen Zone, it is part of the European Union, and Americans are also permitted to enter for 90 days without a visa.

In Malta, English is one of the official languages alongside the native Maltese. Decent Italian is also spoken by most people who live here, so whatever happens, you should easily be able to communicate with locals.

Both of these idyllic island nations usually score well on rankings for solo travelers, too.

A Divided Island

One thing you should know about Cyprus is that the island is divided by what is known as the United Nations Buffer Zone, or Green Line, which separates the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus in the south from the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The buffer runs through the beautiful city of Nicosia, which is one of the places where you can cross, however there are a few things you should know:
- The U.S. Department of State says that Americans should only ever enter and exit the Republic of Cyprus via Larnaca or Paphos airports or the seaports of Liamassol, Larnaca, and Paphos in the south. It does not recognize the TRNC.
- From the south, you will be able to cross the Green Line to visit the TRNC in the north and return again, provided you have your passport with you.
- Do not fly into the island at Ercan airport in the Turkish-controlled north if you plan to visit the south, as you will not be able to cross the Green Line. The Republic of Cyprus does not recognize entry from Ercan as legal.

Last year, the city of Tulum took extra steps to increase the safety of tourists. In the middle of peak tourist season, extra police officers and members of the National Guard are now present to ensure the safety of Tulum’s beach-loving guests.

3. Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is a small island just four miles long and half a mile wide. However, it makes up for its tiny size with its incredible views.

This beach destination is a favorite sunny getaway for American tourists and the friendliness of the locals sets the tone for a relaxing visit.

The laid-back vibe of this island allows you to feel at home while you’re away–only this home is full of musicians, chefs, and beach lovers! Some of the top spots you won’t want to miss are the pirate ruins at Hacienda Mundaca, the MUSA Underwater Sculpture Museum, and the sea turtle sanctuary.

This welcoming island is a relaxing haven for tourists and locals alike. On this tiny land mass, there is hardly any room for crime!

4. Cancun

Cancun has been and continues to be one of the most popular beaches in Mexico. However, this year, Cancun is pulling out all the stops and adding new attractions.

The Mayan Train is set to make its first run in February, and more Mayan ruins are opening.

As peak season begins in Cancun, visitors can revel in the nightlife, relax at the resorts, or explore the ruins and nearby islands.

With so much fun going on, the crime rate is reasonably low. However, the waves can create their own level of danger. Officials have urged beach-goers to heed the warning flags for swimming after five tourists drowned.

5. Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is a vibrant resort town known for its fun, food, and friendliness. In fact, it was once called “the friendliest city in the world.” There is always plenty of activity in this bustling city–especially in the peak winter season when the tourists come to soak up the sun.

Some popular activities are snorkeling, boating, or touring the beautiful Los Arcos National Marine Park. Or, if you are looking for something more low-key, you can walk the historic district, join a food tour, or whale-watch on the beach.

Puerto Vallarta is currently considered a safe tourist area by the U.S. government. However, this beach town is in Mexico’s Jalisco state, which has seen some increase in criminal activity. So exercise caution if you must travel outside of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco state.

6. Isla Holbox

When you translate Isla Holbox literally, it means “black hole”. However, that moniker doesn’t do this Caribbean beach spot justice.

This small island is about two hours away from Cancun. You still get gorgeous beach views, but you can skip some of the crowds and mass tourism at this quiet tropical paradise.

Some of the highlights of Isla Holbox are visiting the glowing, bioluminescent waters, biking the island, and watching the dolphins and flamingos in their natural habitat.

This island is usually filled with relaxed and happy tourists so crime here is very low. Isla Holbox lets you get an “off-grid” experience away from the crowds so you can enjoy a restful beach vacation.

7. Mazatlan

Mazatlan is a cozy warm-weather destination full of beautiful architecture, good food, first-class hotels, and sunny beaches. Tourists enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this pedestrian beach town.

Spanish conquerors founded the old sixteenth-century city, and its historic buildings show influences from the German, Spanish, and French merchants who took up residence after Mexico’s independence from Spain.

Some of the most tourist-friendly spots in Mazatlán are Centro Histórico and Zona Dorada (the Golden Zone). However, traveling outside of Mazatlan in Sinaloa state is currently highly discouraged by the U.S. government.

A beach in Mexico can be a great way to get away from the grind and rejuvenate your body and mind. We found seven safe beaches so you can relax and cast your cares to the wind.

At a time when most of us are growing tired of the overcrowded squares and endless wait lines, the world’s most visited hotspots (think France, Thailand, Italy, or even the U.S.) are struggling to return to their pre-2020 glory.

Instead, new, trendier destinations are emerging as the world’s fastest-growing hubs.

Thanks to their authentic appeal and untouched views, these countries have not only managed to fully recover in terms of visitor numbers but they’re actually setting new all-time records.

So, if you’re planning on taking an overseas trip in 2024, these are the three hottest destinations you won’t want to miss out on.

3. Greece

The U.S. Travel Association in collaboration with Euromonitor International recently released a report analyzing the tourism competitiveness score of countries from all over the world.

While the analysis had lots of interesting findings that shed some much-needed light into the interests and choices of modern travelers, one of the most fascinating pieces of information to come out of the study was the fact that only three of the world’s biggest destinations managed to outpace their 2019 performance by a notable margin.

Coming in at number 3 – you guessed it – is Greece.

The dreamy Mediterranean nation currently boasts a 105% recovery rate, which should come as no surprise given that reports on its many tourism successes have been abundant.

New all-time tourism records were set twice (1,2) in the past four months alone, and if current trends are anything to go by, this summer will bring in the kind of visitor volume that’ll blow both of these numbers out of the water.

Greece is mostly known for its postcard-worthy beaches, and as someone lucky enough to have experienced their allure firsthand, I can attest that they’re truly as good as they say.

While this next statement might be a bit controversial, I also believe that Greece’s world-class beaches are the best in all of Europe.

There’s no shortage of dreamy, warm-weathered hotspots scattered across the continent – Italy, Spain, and the gorgeous French Riviera all hold a unique type of charm.

However, the types of views and level of variety (not to mention reasonable prices) you’ll find in Greece are truly unmatched.

Beyond its coastal wonders, the country is also famous for its rich cultural and historical background, probably best experienced in the capital, Athens, or my personal favorite, Thessaloniki.

2. Turkey

Turkey has just left behind what can only be described as its most successful tourism year in history, having witnessed a remarkable 109% recovery rate from the pre-pandemic record set in 2019.

Featuring a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, the country boasts such a unique natural and cultural identity that there’s really no other place like it on Earth.

The sheer number of attractions to explore in Turkey, each as unique as they come, will leave you a bit overwhelmed.

Everything, from the sun-kissed shores of Antalya and the vibrant city scene of Istanbul to the otherworldly atmosphere of Cappadocia (which is frankly unlike anything I’ve seen before), will leave you stunned, enchanted, and a little bit out of breath.

1. The United Arab Emirates

Ever since the Middle East set itself apart as the fastest-growing region in the world, its most coveted hotspots have seen nothing but flocks of curious travelers anxious to see what the fuss is all about.

That’s why it wasn’t really surprising to find out that The United Arab Emirates was crowned “the fastest-growing destination in the world” in the ranking compiled by the U.S. Travel Association.

Home to year-round traveler favorites like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, the country saw an exceptional 117% recovery rate this past year.

While some tend to write most of these cities off as overcrowded tourist traps, the truth of the matter is that there’s a lot to see and admire in the region (yes, including the futuristic skylines).

Beyond the architectural marvels, though, the UAE is also the place where outdoor enthusiasts can explore the rugged beauty of the Hajar Mountains and Jebel Hafeet, while culture seekers can marvel at the Al Fahidi Historic District or the Al Ain Oasis.

Europe is every digital nomad’s favorite playground: nowhere in the world will they find that country-hopping is as hassle-free as in the Old Continent, where borders are essentially a non-existing concept, and the wide availability of trains and low-cost flights make it incredibly easy to travel.

The only downside to Europe, however, is how expensive it can be, particularly if you’re a budget-conscious nomad who’s looking to settle temporarily somewhere affordable and cool enough: though they may be inherently fascinating, many European countries are becoming unliveable.

Be it soaring rates of overtourism, the strength of the euro against the dollar, or the surging inflation, which is giving locals themselves plenty of reasons to complain, options keep dwindling, so where exactly can remote workers relocate that will not break the bank?

Here are our top five picks for European spots where it costs less than $2,000 per month to live:

Rijeka, Croatia

The third-largest urban center in Croatia, Rijeka is a surprisingly multicultural city and seaport famous for its diverse demographic and numerous cultural attractions.

Rooted in both the Croatian and Italian worlds, it is a melting pot of neighboring cultures.

Due to its proximity to Italy, more specifically Venice, which sits just across the Adriatic inlet, the city has its own unique dialect of the endangered Venetian language (Fiumian), spoken mainly among ethnic Italians living locally, as well as Chakavian, a regional dialect of Croatian.

Among the most famous landmarks, the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc stands out, an 18th-century effort by renowned Austrian architects Fellner & Hellner and a Venetian-inspired Old Town dominated by the medieval Church of the Assumption.

For digital nomads, Rijeka is one of the top destinations in Croatia, as it costs only $1,677 per month to live and work remotely there, as per data gathered by Nomad List, not to mention the good air quality, proximity to the seaside, and internet speed (22 mbps on average).

Gran Canaria, Spain

The main island in Spain’s autonomous Canaries archipelago, Gran Canaria is a tried-and-true winter sun hotspot, offering warm temperatures year-round, white sand beaches, nature reserves, and vibrant city breaks, most notably Las Palmas.

On the digital nomad side, it’s risen to prominence as a result of its high quality of life, easy access to nature, relaxed atmosphere, and most importantly, the lower cost of living compared to other destinations in mainland Spain.

It would naturally depend on where you are based, as prices can be higher in Las Palmas, the regional capital, than the rural, mountainous inland, but it costs on average a mere $1,974 to reside in Gran Canaria monthly.

Some of the aspects nomads love the most about Gran Canaria are the sunny, temperate climate, owing it to the geographical proximity to the African continent, the fact that English is widely spoken, especially among young people in larger cities, and the cheaper prices for food.

Antalya, Turkiye

Dubbed the Queen of the Eastern Mediterranean, Antalya is a gorgeous resort city in Turkiye with millennia upon millennia of accumulated History and a unique mixture of Old World charm and modern seaside developments to call its own.

The Old Town part, locally known as Kaleici, is a maze-like cobbled zone lined by traditional shops and restaurants, guarded by a 2,000-year-old Roman city gate, and it’s easily Antalya’s most picturesque and culturally significant district.

In Konyaalti, however, the ancient cityscape gives way to clusters of skyscrapers and residential buildings distributed along a sand-and-gravel beach strip, bounded by waters of the shiniest blue, within walking distance of Westernized eateries and leisure and shopping complexes.

Antalya is old and historical, but it is also cool and trendy, and its low cost of living – Nomad List estimates it is possible to reside here on $1,235 per month – make it a highly sought-after destination for remote workers from both Europe and the U.S.

Now that Turkiye has lifted visa requirements for Americans, Antalya has become even more attractive to the average U.S. visitor.

Split, Croatia

The second Croatian entry on this list, Split is a unique city in the sense that it originally developed around the abandoned ruins of a Roman palace built for an emperor. This means much of the so-called Old Town is still found within the remaining walls of this ancient structure.

It is made up of a series of winding alleys leading to hidden patios and family-owned bakeries, yet outside the Diocletian fortress, visitors will find a palm-flanked marina interspersed with luxurious hotels, nightclubs, and charming oceanfront cafes.

Much like Antalya in Turkiye, Split has stolen our hearts with its combination of European ‘old’ and 21st-century coastal getaway: seeing centuries-old monuments coexisting harmoniously with — is no strange sight here.

Then, there is Split’s affordability: based on 726 impressions by members of Nomad List‘s online community, nomads can expect to pay around $1,998 per month living among locals in Croatia’s second city.

While 2023 was not a record-breaking year for tourism in the United Kingdom, it was certainly a step in the right direction with visitor numbers just shy of those in 2019.

And it seems that American travelers just love visiting the U.K. – a recent report showed that American tourists are one of the most important to the country, with a 28% increase in spending for 2023 compared to 2019.

So, where are the best destinations in the U.K.? And why? Here’s what’s happening in 2024 at some of the country’s most iconic places that might help sway you.

London

A trip to Britain is not complete without visiting London – it’s the third most visited city in the world for a reason.

Of course, there are many timeless reasons why you might enjoy the city, such as iconic landmarks like Big Ben and Buckingham Palace and popular annual events like the Chelsea Flower Show or Notting Hill Carnival.

But 2024 will have plenty of its own unique draws that make London an essential, such as the opening of hotly anticipated luxury hotels like Park Hyatt London River Thames and Mandarin Oriental Mayfair.

In 2024, you will be able to experience a newly opened shopping arcade, Battersea Power Station, and get a new 360-degree view of the city in its Lift 109, or celebrate the renaissance of one of the world’s most famous toys on its 65th birthday at Barbie: The Exhibition at the Design Museum.

Liverpool

Visitors to one of the U.K.’s most historic and cultural cities in 2024 will be treated by the opening of a new Boxpark in the city – a stylish venue for street food, bars, live events, and art that has previously only been seen in London.

You will be able to experience the country’s biggest free celebrations of African music and culture, Africa Oye, when it takes place in Liverpool in the summer.

2024 will also be a big year for Liverpool’s most famous sons, the Beatles.

In July it will be the 60^th anniversary of the release of their album A Hard Day’s Night.

This means that the already amazing Liverpool Beatles Museum will have a host of additional artifacts and treasures as part of a celebratory temporary exhibition this summer.

Brighton

Brighton is one of the U.K.’s most popular coastal cities and combines the delights of a traditional, historic seaside town with a trendy vibe that has evolved thanks to many young people from London moving here.

The city is easy to access, being only a 30-minute train ride from London Gatwick Airport, and with more flights from the U.S. expected to connect to here in 2024.

Brighton is home to the biggest pride celebration in the country, which takes place in early August in 2024.

Another reason to visit in 2024 is that England’s National Gallery will be loaning some of its finest artworks from artists such as Rembrandt and Renoir to other museums around the country to celebrate its 200^th anniversary, and one of the beneficiaries will be Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

Birmingham

The U.K.’s second-largest city has recently hosted major events such as the Commonwealth Games in 2022, so a lot of money has been spent on improving the city center and transport links.

You can enjoy luxury shopping at the Bull Ring, great dining and nightlife at the Mailbox, or end-of-year festivities at the famous Frankfurt Christmas Market.

One of Birmingham’s (and the United Kingdom’s) most iconic brands, Cadbury, will be celebrating its 200^th anniversary in 2024.

The chocolate maker will have a host of special events going on throughout the year at the family-friendly attraction Cadbury World in Bourneville in the south of the city.

Skye

If you want to experience some of the best nature that the U.K. has to offer, then head north to Scotland and its beautiful Isle of Skye.

This secluded island is easily accessible by road and plays host to many hugely popular annual events, including the Isle of Skye Highland Games and the Skye Live Festival.

The island is a wonderland for solo travelers, whether that’s hikers who’ve come to lap up the incredible scenery, or less active travelers who want to sample the fine food and drink of cute towns such as Portree.

Average daytime temperatures here tend to stay on the lower end of what you’d consider “warm,” ranging from 60-70°F (15-21°C); however, considering that rainfall is minimal to non-existent and that you’re not planning on swimming or sunbathing either way, that’s pretty much perfect.

Thanks to its location in the famous Sonoran Desert, Tucson in February becomes the perfect place for you to explore the sandy landscapes without having to fight the scorching summer heat.
