Starting prices above may refer exclusively to seats: Economy fares do not necessarily include hold luggage, in-flight meals, or entertainment, even on international routes. They may also oscillate as we enter the peak season, subject to demand and availability. We would suggest you read our five tips for scoring cheap flights this winter amid the volatile scenario.

Why Should You Pick Cozumel Over Cancun?

    Woman With Luggage At Airport

After spending years in the shadows as a secondary destination or day trip option, Cozumel is climbing the tourism charts as one of the best islands, not only within Mexico, but in North America. This year, it was proclaimed the continent’s fifth most popular island by Condé Nast Traveler, behind only Holbox and Mujeres and two other Canadian destinations.

Although it has certainly seen its share of development in recent years, following the arrival of various resort brands, top-notch seafood restaurants, and even beach clubs, the once-sleepy island has merely a small fraction of Cancun’s arrival figures. While it does have its own airport, it is served by fewer cities compared to the latter.

Palm Trees Pictured In Cozumel Island, Mexican Caribbean, Riviera Maya, Mexico

This has helped Cozumel retain some of its Mayan mystique, an attribute that has long been lost in other overtouristed Riviera towns. Moreover, its unspoiled nature and historical sights are iconic Mexican postcards: here, you’ll find sandy white beaches and crystal clear oceans, marine parks, lagoons with underwater caverns, and of course, ancient ruins.

Naturally, Cancun Airport remains the main entry point into the Riviera Maya, but we value honesty first and foremost and will not skirt around the harder topics: due to its accessibility, it can be chaotic at times, and this will be particularly true this winter, with millions of Americans set to scramble for any seats left on sold-out Cancun routes.

    Busy Airplane, Air Travel

If you’re worried Cancun might sell out and packed beaches are not your idea of fun, flying direct to Cozumel is simply a great alternative to enjoy all the perks of vacationing in the Mexican Caribbean.

Record Number Of Direct Flights Happening Between The U.S. And Greece This Summer

Do you fancy a trip to Greece this summer? It just became far easier for Americans. Delta Airlines is teaming up with Greek carrier SKY Express to offer tourists connections across Greece and Cyprus.

The new partnership—which began on May 19, 2022—will allow tourists to fly on Delta airlines direct flights to Athens, Greece, before connecting to 34 famous places.

    These places include:

    • Mykonos
    • Santorini
    • Crete
    • Corfu

Delta also offers a record number of direct flights from the United States to Athens—including direct flights to Athens from NYC, Boston, and Atlanta.

    The Statement From The Airlines

Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s senior vice president of alliances, said: “Greece is one of the most sought-after destinations this summer for American travelers, and with trade and tourism flows increasing between our countries, Delta’s partnership with SKY express gives our customers more versatility when it comes to planning the perfect Greek getaway,”

“Customers will be able to hold a single Delta ticket and check their bags from North America all the way to their final destination, providing customers with a seamless service to some of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean,” he added.

SKY Express operates A320neo and ATR 72600 aircraft. Delta said this “suited to the geographical environment of the Greek islands.”

In addition, Yiannis Lidakis, the commercial director of SKY express, said: “With one of the youngest fleets and an unrivaled network, this arrangement with Delta will allow customers across the U.S. to connect to the magical charm of the Greek islands,”

Which U.S Airports Will Delta Fly From?

Delta will have regular flights to Greece from Atlanta, Boston, New York-JFK, etc. As a result, U.S. tourists can fly directly to Greece instead of flying to another destination in Europe, such as the United Kingdom, then connecting to Greece.

However, the connecting flights offered by Delta and SKY Express to popular Greek island resorts from Athens are superb for U.S. tourists.

As most Greek islands don’t have international airports—even some popular ones—it can be a headache traveling to the Greek islands from outside Europe. During COVID-19 and the subsequent lack of flights, it sometimes took Americans three flights to visit Santorini and Mykonos.

This news takes away much of the stress of visiting Greece’s beautiful islands

    What Are Greece’s Entry Requirements?

Greece has removed all COVID-19 entry requirements. Therefore, U.S. travelers can visit the nation without testing, mandatory quarantine, proof of vaccination, and passenger locator forms.

Greece has also removed its mask mandate and all other internal restrictions. Greece is completely back to normal for U.S. visitors.

Although Greece reopened its borders in 2020, entry restrictions were still challenging for two years. Until recently, the nation also had a mandatory vaccine passport for almost all indoor venues, which made Greece highly challenging for unvaccinated tourists.

Other Airlines Who Fly Directly To Greece

Thankfully, Delta Airlines isn’t the only airline offering direct flights to Greece this summer.

These airlines also offer direct flights from the United States to Greece:

    • Emirates: Emirates will fly directly to Athens from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) this summer. The total flight time will be 9 hours and 10 minutes. Travelers can then arrange their transportation to the islands.
    • American Airlines: American Airlines will fly directly to Athens from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this summer. The total flight time will be 10 hours and 20 minutes. American Airlines will also fly directly to Athens from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) this summer, with a total flight time of 9 hours and 30 minutes.
    • Air Canada: Canadians can fly directly from Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Athens this summer. The total flight time is 9 hours.
    • United Airlines: United Airlines will fly directly to Athens from Dulles International Airport (IAD) this summer. The total flight time is 9 hours and 45 minutes.

    Final Thoughts

Greece is one of the best destinations for Americans in 2021. As the nation grows in popularity, more and more flights from North America are heading to Greece directly.

    New Flights To Cancun, Mexico

Cancun was the world’s second most popular tourist destination in 2021 behind Dubai. And during the COVID-19 pandemic—Mexico never closed. As a result, airlines from every corner of the world are starting direct flights to the region.

Not only that, Mexico was the second nation worldwide to scrap all COVID-19 entry requirements—including things like passenger locator forms, although they never had testing or vaccine requirements.

So Cancun really is the perfect destination in 2022, regardless of where you come from.

The New Flights To Cancun From The U.S.

As Cancun continues to grow in popularity for U.S. tourists, some U.S. airliners are increasing flights, including:

    • Frontier Airlines – Frontier Airlines will increase their flights from Tampa to Cancun to three times per week. They will also begin flying from Houston to Cancun 4 times per week from May.

The New Flights To Cancun From Europe

Cancun has always been a popular destination for European travelers, especially British and German tourists. Therefore, it’s no shock that airliners are increasing flights to the region.

    • Condor Airlines – Condor Airlines will add another weekly flight on its Frankfurt to Cancun route, From May, there will be five weekly flights instead of four.
    • TUI – Popular British airliner TUI is increasing its flight frequency to Cancun. From May, travelers can fly to Cancun from Manchester, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Bristol, Newcastle, etc. Moreover, travelers can catch direct flights to Cancun from Amsterdam and Brussels.
    • Iberojet – Popular Spanish airline Iberojet began flying from Lisbon to Cancun in April; however, they will also increase their flight frequency from Madrid to Cancun in July. In addition, they’ve announced a new direct flight from Barcelona to Cancun in June.
    • AirCaraïbes – French airline Air Caraibes will start its route from Paris to Cancun in October with two weekly frequencies until December, with an increase to 3 flights from December 2022.

The New Flights To Cancun From South America

Various South American airlines are increasing their flight frequency to Cancun, including:

    • SKY Airlines – SKY Airlines will increase its flights from Lima to Cancun on a daily basis.
    • Volaris – Volaris will start daily flights from Lima to Cancun in June.

    New Flights To Isla Cozumel

    • Southwest Airlines – Southwest Airlines will start flights from Denver to Cozumel in June.
    • American Airlines – American Airlines will begin flights from Denver to Cozumel on Saturdays from June onwards.
    • United Airlines – United Airlines will restart weekly flights from LAX to Cozumel in May.
    • Suncountry – Suncountry will restart flights from Dallas to Isla Cozumel in June with two weekly flights (Thursday and Saturday.)

    The COVID-19 Situation In Cancun

Cancun is recording its lowest COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began. The current 7-day case average is only 9.

However, although there are no entry requirements to visit Cancun from Europe or the United States, there are still internal COVID-19 restrictions. These include mandatory masks in indoor areas. However, since Mexico, at a federal level at least, has now declared this an endemic, indoor mask rules at the state level for Quintana Roo should be ending soon.

Cancun did, however, remove the outdoor mask mandate earlier in the year.

Tips For Heading To Cancun In 2022

Travelers wishing to visit Cancun in the summer of 2022 need to book their accommodation soon. According to reports, Cancun hotels are almost fully booked in the summer, with an impressive 90% occupation.

However, travelers can always choose another destination in Mexico if they want to avoid the crowds. Popular destinations with lower hotel bookings include Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and Cabo San Lucas.

    Final Thoughts

As the Mexican tourism industry continues to rebound, Cancun remains an excellent destination for travelers. International flights are increasing, and the region is relatively back to normal.

The carrier will be serving a new route to Austin, Texas; and daily flights to Atlanta, Washington, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco

    KLM airplane flying

The Dutch airline, KLM, announced in a press release that it will be serving 167 destinations during summer 2022, between March 27 and October 29.

The carrier will offer customers flights to 96 European cities and 71 intercontinental destinations, 12 direct flights to the United States, and a total of 16 million seats.

KLM is responding to travelers’ demands and is expanding its capacity to almost the same level it had in 2019 before the pandemic started. The new destinations added to its network —like Belgrade, Dubrovnik, and Palma de Mallorca— have been very successful routes and the company expects even more reservations to more destinations during summer.

The carrier has also made policy changes to satisfy customers’ needs. On March 23, KLM stopped requesting passengers to wear masks and joined other carriers who dropped this covid restriction. Customers flying with KLM, and taking advantage of the 167 routes the company will serve this summer, can travel with more comfort without face coverings.

    KLM’s Network Expansion

Flight frequency to the Caribbean and the United States has increased. The carrier added Austin, Texas, to their network and will operate daily flights to Caribbean destinations like Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao

The Dutch airline also mentioned that their customers are interested in Asia, for destinations like the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Bali. The carrier has considered countries that have eased travel restrictions or that will soon, like India.

Other countries with strict travel restrictions, like China, are not included in their new network expansion. KLM also clarified that due to the European Union sanctions to Russia, they will not fly in Russian Airspace, and that customers must consider that flights to destinations like Japan, China, or South Korea will take two hours more and will include a stop in Seoul.

Most routes to South America have been restored to similar levels as before the pandemic. The carrier offers daily flights to Sao Paulo, Panama City, and Lima, and frequent flights to Quito, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Santiago.

Africa is also part of KLM’s expansion,  during summer the carrier will serve 10 destinations: Zanzibar, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Accra, Lagos, Kigali, Entebbe, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salaam.

    KLM Flights To The US

Since November, after the United States eased travel restrictions for Europeans, KLM has reported steady growth, and their services this summer will match the ones provided in 2019.

The Dutch airline has added a new destination to the US, Austin, the state capital of Texas. They consider this destination to be “a flourishing technology hub and home to a large number of technology companies” and expect high demand for business flights in the new future.

According to the details shared on the site Aviacionline, these are the direct flights KLM has scheduled from Amsterdam to the US:

    • Atlanta: daily flights.
    • Austin: three times per week.
    • Boston: four times per week.
    • Washington Dulles: daily flights.
    • Houston: six times per week.
    • New York: 19 times per week.
    • Las Vegas: five times per week.
    • Los Angeles: 13 times per week.
    • Minneapolis: four times per week.
    • Chicago O’ Hare: six times per week.
    • San Francisco: 10 times per week.
    • Salt Lake City: three times per week.

The fleet allocated for these routes includes different models like the Airbus A330-300, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and the Boeing 777-200ER/787-10 Dreamliner.

KLM is currently offering customers special deals on their official website to attract more passengers. Travelers can buy tickets from New York to Amsterdam for $660, from Los Angeles to Billund for $525, from New York to Aalborg for $532, or from San Francisco to Amsterdam for $635, taxes included. Flight offers are time-sensitive and might vary depending on availability or location.
