Thailand’s government has revealed its plans to completely drop the Thailand Pass needed for entry, paving the way for the country’s easiest entry requirements since the start of the pandemic. The popular Southeast Asian country, whose capital city Bangkok was once crowned the world’s most visited city back in 2019, has struggled to welcome tourists in large numbers since introducing strict entry requirements as Covid-19 spread, but that could all be set to change with the removal of the pass.

The removal of the Thailand Pass is just one of several measures that Thailand will be adopting next month as it repeals several Covid-related rules, such as the mask mandate and strict regulation of its nightlife industry. Here’s a look at what is set to change in the country, and how travelers can enter the country from next month.

Thailand Pass Removed – Information For Travelers

Ever since the Thailand Pass was launched last year, it has undergone several different facelifts and rule changes as the country reacted to the changing situation regarding the pandemic. From large insurance requirements and proof of vaccination, to booking stays in quarantine hotels and post-arrival testing, Thailand hasn’t made it easier for travelers to be able to enter the Land Of Smiles – until now.

Following a government meeting, it was revealed yesterday that Thailand would be removing its Thailand Pass requirements for all foreign travelers from July 1st. That means that travelers will no longer have to apply for a Thailand Pass in order to enter, nor will they need to purchase an insurance policy that covers Covid-19 prior to flying to the country. Thailand will also be removing its thermal scanning facilities at its borders.

There are still some Covid-19 related restrictions that are set to remain. Travelers will still need to have either proof of vaccination against the virus or a negative test result to enter the country, as arrivals will be randomly checked for these documents. Tests can be either a RT-PCR or professional ATK test taken within 72 hours of travel. Unvaccinated travelers who are randomly checked and cannot produce a negative test result will need to undergo a professional ATK test at the point of entry.

The Thailand Pass – with its bug-filled website and out of date entry requirements – has longer since been viewed with travelers as a significant barrier to travel, with many choosing to visit other, requirement-free destinations instead. Now that it is set to be removed, travelers are expected to travel to the country in their droves, bringing respite to the country’s ailing tourism industry.

Travelers will also be glad to know that the removal of the pass isn’t the only significant policy change starting on July 1st. Also from this date, the country will be partially repealing its mask mandate, making the wearing of masks when outdoors or in uncrowded places voluntary. Masks will still be required in situations such as public transport, markets and at concert venues, but travelers can look forward to mask-free strolls on the beach. More provinces are also set to become “green zones”, allowing more business types such as bars to open for longer.

Each of these changes are subject to their publication in the Royal Gazette, a process in the Thai legal system that is needed before changes become law, but their ascension into law is expected to be granted. It’s been a month full of change in Thailand, with the country also recently legalizing the use of cannabis – making it the first country in Asia to do so.

American Travelers Will Have Fast Track Entry When Visiting France This Summer

Traveling abroad for summer 2022 will be much more challenging than initially expected, as countries struggle to keep up with a rising travel demand and staff shortages. Still, some destinations are better prepared than others, and are even simplifying entry for foreigners. This is the case with France, where Americans now enjoy fast track entry.

Although many travelers are not even aware of this, France allows a number of foreign nationals to cross its borders without thorough checks – including U.S. citizens. While this policy has been around for some time, it was not until recently that it gained traction, as airports in Europe become overwhelmingly busy post-Covid:

Americans Can Enter France Without Speaking To A Border Agent

If you’re a regular traveler in the Old Continent, you may be familiar with the layout of European airports. Usually when landing in Europe, passengers have to stand in one out of two lines: the Europeans’ or the third country nationals’. Anyone who does not hold a passport from an European Union (EU) or EU-associated country is considered a third country national.

Naturally, U.S., Canada, Australia and UK passport holders are all considered third country nationals, as they are not EU citizens. With the exception of Brits, who only left the EU recently, these travelers had been for years subject to long wait times until speaking to a border agent, who would then assess whether they would be allowed into France or not.

This is a very common procedure when traveling abroad, as it is a border agent’s job to verify the intentions of a traveler when visiting a country, and whether they meet certain criteria, including financial requirements. As EU citizens have the right to move freely in Europe, they are not subject to these checks and have always been eligible to use eGates.

In France, they are part of an automated border control system called Parafe, which helps French authorities keep track of border crossings to and from France from outside the borderless Schengen Area. These ‘Eletronic Gates’ ensure faster entry when crossing EU borders, as passengers simply have to scan their passport to be allowed in.

Surprisingly, France now allows select non-EU nationalities to scan their way into the country. In order to benefit from Parafe, and cross into France without speaking to a border agent first, travelers must simply be aged 18 years and older, and hold a valid biometric passport from one of the below countries:
- EU nations
- EEA nations (Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway)
- Switzerland
- Andorra
- Monaco
- San Marino
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Japan
- South Korea
This means that, even though they are not Europeans, Americans can still use eGates traveling to France at designated entry poins. More specifically, they are eligible for fast-track entry in 7 international airports, including the busy Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Orly, which both serve Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille and Nice.

U.S. passport holders can also use automated eGates on at least 4 of France’s international train stations, mainly on United Kingdom-France routes. Those are Gare du Nord, in Paris, St Pancras International, on the British side of the border, the Terminal de Coquelles in France, and the Folkstone Terminal in England.

How To Use An eGate In 4 Quick Steps

When using an eGate, travelers are advsied to follow these steps:
- Remove glasses, scarves, hats and face masks
- Place the passport photo page on the electronic reader
- Stand on the footprints indicated on the floor
- Look at the camera in front of you until the facial recognition process is complete
If you’re successful, after a minute or two, the gates of France – and Europe on an extent – will open for you.

Despite More Relaxed Entry Controls, Schengen Area Rules Have Not Changed

Even though Americans are now guaranteed faster entry into France, this does not mean the rule is replicated in other European countries. With the exception of the UK, which also allows U.S. citizens to use eGates, we still have not heard of other European nations granting Americans (and Canadians on an extent) the privilege.

Whenever traveling to France, Americans are again reminded that, even though they may no longer be required to see a border officer at specific entry points, they can only remain in the country (and the Schengen Area as a whole) for 90 days out of every 180-day period. For that purpose, the Parafe system will keep a record of both entry and exit dates.

When caught overstaying, depending on the length of the illegal stay, Americans risk being fined, detained, or even banned from traveling to Europe for a few years. Any visit to the Schengen Area, which include France and 25 other countries, however short, counts towards your 90-days-out-of-every-180 limit.

Is France Open For Tourism Right Now?

Right now, France is open to Americans holding a valid Covid certification, and mainly those who are fully immunized. It is not yet part of the group of European countries that have completely removed entry requirements ahead of summer, but it has progressively eased restrictions over the last few months.

Once in France, travelers are no longer required to wear face coverings indoors or outdoors, including in planes, and the Covid-era Pass sanitaire, France’s controversial vaccine passport, is also not in use. Right now, your main concern traveling to France is the rapid spread of monkeypox and the increasing risk of travel disruption due to understaffed airports.

Turkey Removes All Entry Requirements

After months of imposing stricter entry rules in response to Covid, Turkey is finally removing all health requirements for international arrivals. This means that, starting June 1, tourists will no longer be expected to present Covid certificates arriving at Turkey’s borders, as pandemic-related measures have been officially nullified.

The cross-continental nation, which hosts Europe’s largest metropolis (Istanbul), and some of Western Asia’s most memorable natural landmarks, will welcome visitors restriction-free for the first time in two years. Although it had progressively eased rules throughout 2021, it always stopped short of announcing a full-scale reopening… Until now.

Turkey Welcomes All Travelers Again

As confirmed by the Interior Ministry, undergoing tests for Covid will no longer be expected of any foreigners visiting Turkey starting June 1. Previously, those who did not present a vaccination certificate upon crossing the border were required to have a negative PCR 72 hours before entry, or a Rapid Antigen Test within 48 hours.

On top of that, being in possession of a vaccination certificate will no longer be a prerequisite for entry into the country for the vaccinated, as all Covid certificates have officially ceased being relevant travel documents. Now, both the vaccinated, and the unvaccinated, are treated the exact same way for entry purposes.

Although visa rules for certain nationalities are still in place, Turkey is open to all regardless of immunization status:
- No vaccination passes are required
- No pre-departure testing is demanded
- No post-arrival testing mandates are in place
- No quarantine orders are issued upon arrival
Vaccinated travelers had been previously exempt from the testing requirement, one of Turkey’s last standing sanitary barriers against Covid. However, with both vaccination and testing rules gone, Turkey has effectively reinstated its pre-pandemic state of normality, when visitors only had to worry about carrying a valid passport.

Masks Are Gone As Of This Week

According to the Interior Ministry, anti-Covid measures are determined on ‘global developments’ and infection trends, explaining Turkey’s once-harsh border protocols. Considering that the vast majority of Europe is open, and the world has started to move on from Covid, Turkish authorities saw it was time to lift curbs altogether.

On top of abolishing its travel rules, Turkey scrapped mandatory mask usage – with the usual exceptions. While facial coverings will continue being enforced in hospitals, where vulnerable populations are at a higher risk of experiencing severe forms of Covid, they are no longer necessary in all other settings, including public transport.

As of June 1, tourists are again free to travel Istanbul’s extensive transportation system, which includes scenic ferry rides, without face masks, or fear of being rebuked for opting not to wear one. Similarly, mask wearing has become voluntary in flights within Turkey, which are the preferred mode of travel for tourists once inside the country.

Infections in Turkey now account for only 1% of the February 8 peak, when over 100,000 new cases were recorded in a single day – and they are falling even further. The favorable epidemiological scenario even led President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who adopted tougher stances in the past, to argue that Covid is ‘no longer a global threat‘.

Why Visit Turkey In 2022?

Turkey is one of the most fascinating countries on Earth. Straddling the natural border between Europe and Asia, with the Northern part of Istanbul being its most notorious European asset, the ancient country is closely linked to other regional superpowers, having been an integral part of several empires throughout the centuries.

Do I Need A Visa For Turkey?

American citizens need an E-Visa in order to enter Turkey, which can be easily obtained online prior to departure. After payment of the visa fee, which varies depending on nationality, it is usually delivered via electronic means within 24 hours of applying. Once granted, the visa allows Americans a 90-day stay as tourists.

Canadians are also required to obtain an E-Visa prior to visiting, while British citizens and most citizens of the European Union can visit Turkey simply by presenting a passport – and, in specific cases like France, even just National Identity Cards. Cyprus is set to remove all of its Covid-19 related entry restrictions from the beginning of next month. The popular island, located south of Turkey in the Mediterranean Sea, has become the latest country around the world to announce the removal of its Covid-19 related entry requirements in a move that is set to be welcomed by travelers and businesses on the island alike as we head into a busy summer of travel on the continent.

In announcing the impending removal of its Covid-19 related entry requirements, Cyprus is following in the footsteps of its fellow European countries Belgium and Germany, who made similar such restriction-ending announcements during the past week. Here’s a run down of how the entry requirements are set to change for the country, plus a look at Cyprus’ other Covid-19 restrictions that will also be on their way out in the coming days.

Restrictions Removed – Information For Travelers

Despite being much smaller than most of its European neighbours, Cyprus typically performs well in terms of tourism. Prior to the pandemic, the country welcomed more than 4 million tourists per year, making it the sixth most visited country per capita of local population in the world. The pandemic all but ended travel to the country, with strict entry restrictions making a trip not all that palatable to travelers – but that could soon be set to change.

Just last night, the government of Cyprus made the announcement that the country would be removing all of its Covid-19 related entry restrictions, much to the delight of people in the country and travelers around the world. The removal of the current entry requirements will come into effect from June 1st, and will make travel into the country the same as it was prior to the pandemic.

The new changes mean that from June 1st, travelers will no longer be required to show proof of full vaccination against Covid-19, proof of recovery from the virus or a negative test result to enter the country. All travelers will need is a passport and a valid visa where applicable – just like how travel was in the good old days. The changes are for all travelers, regardless of their nationality or their country of origin. The need to fill out a passenger locator form was removed back in April.

The Cypriot government also made another significant announcement on Friday that will affect travelers heading into the country. From June 1st, the wearing of face masks will no longer be required in indoor areas – including airports – building on the previous changes that allowed travelers to go without them when outdoors. Whilst these are small changes, they make the idea of booking a vacation to the country far more appealing to travelers.

Travelers will still be required to wear face masks in medical-related places, such as hospitals and clinics, so visitors to the country should make sure to pack a few masks in their luggage just in case. According to Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos, the changes signal a return to normality for the island – a change that several other countries around the world have also been pivoting towards in recent months.

It’s been a good week as far as the easing of restrictions around the world is concerned, with more and more countries making it easier for travelers to enter once more. In Europe, the likes of Germany, Belgium and Austria have each removed their entry requirements, whilst several other destinations around the world such as Vietnam and Israel have also made it easier to visit.

The top trending vacation destinations around the world have been revealed. By calculating the increases in search volume for travel destinations on the popular social media site Pinterest, trend experts WeThrift have worked out which destinations around the world are trending amongst travelers and could be set to welcome huge crowds this summer. Here’s a look at the top trending destinations – and what you need to be able to visit.

Top Trending Destinations – Information For Travelers

Porto

Research carried out by WeThrift found that Porto, Portugal was the top trending destination in the world, with a 62% increase in searches on Pinterest.

A quintessential European weekend break destination, the colorful riverside town is more than worth a trip for any traveler, with millions flocking there to enjoy its famous pastries and traipse around its cobbled streets. To enter Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery, or a negative Covid-19 test result (taken within 72 hours for PCR tests or 48 hours for rapid antigen tests).

Corfu

Close behind Porto was the Greek island of Corfu, which had a 61% increase in search volume. With its pristine coastline, dramatic sheer rock faces, deep blue sea – and not to mention fresh, healthy cuisine – it’s easy to see why Corfu looks set to be a hit this summer. It’s also extremely easy to visit, with Greece having removed all of its Covid-19 related entry requirements.

Lake Como

With a 44% increase in searches, Italy’s spectacular Lake Como is the third most trending destination. With views of the huge, sprawling lake long since dominating the social media pages of travel bloggers and pages alike, it seems as though all that daydreaming of escaping to Como during lockdown is set to come true this summer. Like with Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative Covid-19 test result in order to be able to enter.

Mallorca

Known for its beaches, Spanish architecture, and wineries, the Spanish island of Mallorca is trending with a 35% increase in searches. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca’s charms have been wooing Europeans for decades, and is now firmly in the crosshairs of travel-starved people the world over. Travelers to Spain must be fully vaccinated – with a booster if the latest shot was taken more than nine months ago. The country recently made changes to allow unvaccinated travelers to enter with a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 24 hours.

Mykonos

The second Greek island to feature on the list, it seems travelers have been dreaming posing amongst a backdrop of traditional blue and white Greek buildings once more. Searches for Mykonos rose 32%, with the island equally as popular with young people embracing the party side of then as it is with families looking for a more laid-back experience.

Few cities are as breathtaking as Istanbul – an opinion clearly shared by the masses as it received a 26% increase in searches. The city has it all; from the historical remnants of empires gone by littered all over the city, to a thriving nightlife scene – not to mention sprawling bazaars, passionate locals and stunning views – Istanbul is worthy of a place on any traveler’s list. Fully vaccinated travelers with proof don’t need to test before entering, whilst unvaccinated travelers must show either a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 48 hours.

Having long since established itself as a firm favorite amongst travelers the world over, the most famous party island in the world looks set to go back into full swing this summer, with interest in Ibiza soaring by 26%. Like Mykonos, there’s more to their island than its clubs, with the north end proving to be much calmer and its beautiful beaches catering to all types of traveler.

With the vast majority of Thailand’s entry hurdles now removed, the wildly popular destination is back in business. Searches for Phuket – the country’s largest and most popular island – rose by 26%, with travelers keen to explore the nightlife of Patong or scenic beaches of Rawai, Kata and Nai Harn once more. All travelers to Thailand must have a Thailand Pass, which can be applied for here – but it looks as if this requirement could be on its way out over the next few weeks.

Israel Removes All Entry Requirements For Tourists

Israel has become the latest nation to drop all COVID-19 entry requirements. The nation’s ministry of health said on Tuesday (May 17th) that they would ease the entry rules on Saturday, May 21st.

The director of the Israel Government Tourist Office in London, Sharon Ehrlich Bershadsky, said: “This is the news we have been waiting for, for more than two years.”

“It has been our highest priority to make the process of entering Israel the easiest it can be while responsibly looking after our passengers’ health and safety.”

“With Israel joining many other countries in dropping all Covid restrictions, I am hopeful the travel industry has now reached a crucial milestone in this post-pandemic world.”

Israel’s New Entry Requirements

All travelers—regardless of their vaccination status—can enter Israel from May 21st without showing proof of vaccination, testing, and mandatory quarantine. However, travelers still need to complete a passenger locator form 48 hours before travel, as they did before the pandemic.

Until Saturday, May 21, arrivals will have to continue to provide evidence of a negative PCR test or antigen test for COVID-19 when arriving by land, air, and sea; this also extends to any cruises departing from Israel.

In addition, all travelers landing at Ben Gurion Airport must take a test, which travelers must pay for. After the test, travelers must quarantine for 24 hours until they get the test results. These requirements will stay until May 21.

The Israel Government Tourist Office said cases have “dropped to a number low enough where it is safe enough to relax restrictions further”.

In summary, from May 21, travelers entering Israel no longer need:
- Proof of vaccination
- Proof of testing
- To undergo mandatory quarantine
- Proof of recovery
Therefore, Israel joins the growing list of nations back to 2019 pre-covid normality.

Israel’s Internal COVID-19 Restrictions

Although Israel is scrapping all COVID-19 entry requirements, there are still COVID-19 internal restrictions. These include:
- Social distancing and health regulations when traveling to the airport.
- Mask wearing in places with “high contagion potential” (hospitals, senior living facilities, and air travel.)
- If travelers show symptoms and test positive for COVID-19 after arrival, they must self-isolate for 5 days. Travelers may only leave self-isolation after testing on the fourth and fifth day—regardless of whether their symptoms have decreased.
However, Israel has ended its indoor mask mandate.

Israel’s ministry of health has also committed to continuing updates in the event of any further changes to the COVID-19 guidelines.

The COVID-19 Situation In Israel

Israel is currently recording its lowest number of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started. The current nationwide 7-day case average is 2,167. That’s down from a 7-day case average of 101,905 in January 2022.

Bulgaria Removes All Entry Requirements May 1

Kicking off its highly anticipated tourist season, Bulgaria will be joining other European countries in removing all Covid entry requirements for foreign visitors ahead of summer. Once it officially scraps all remaining restrictions on May 1, this Eastern European country will become the 37th in the world to have done so, and immediately after nearby Albania.

Like many of its European siblings, Bulgaria clamped down hard on tourism during the Covid crisis. By enacting several different entry curbs throughout 2020 and 2021, at one time including a ban on all U.S. visitors, it saw its booming tourism industry reach all-time lows as travelers started avoiding overly strict countries altogether.

However, as other nations move toward treating Covid as endemic and adapting to the virus, Bulgaria has decided it is now time to follow suit and rebuild its reputation as a tourist-friendly destination:

Bulgaria Scraps All Restrictions Starting May 1

Up until recently, anyone seeking entry into Bulgaria had to observe a number of requirements, ranging from holding a valid vaccination certificate when fully immunized to undergoing Covid testing prior to entering. Some vaccinated passengers were also subject to testing, especially when arriving from the so-called Dark Red Zones.

Although those measures were certainly an improvement over the blanket bans imposed during the peak of Omicron, they still discouraged millions of travelers from visiting, especially those who are not vaccinated and feel somewhat targeted by specific restrictions.

Now, Bulgaria’s era of health screening of foreign arrivals has come to an end.

Starting May 1, 2022, American, Canadian and British visitors will only need a passport and the usual pre-pandemic travel documentation to visit this country, as confirmed by Asena Serbezova, the Bulgarian Minister of Health. While the pandemic-era EU Digital Covid Certificate will not be discontinued, it will no longer be a prerequisite for travelers arriving in Bulgaria.

In summary, entry in Bulgaria is again possible for both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated under the same rules, as there are:
- No testing before arrival
- No testing upon or after landing
- No quarantines, even for the unvaccinated
- No proof of vaccination
- No countries banned due to variants of concern or number of cases
- No Passenger Locator Forms to fill out
How Safe A Destination Is Bulgaria Right Now?

Back in April 1, the Balkan country also ended a nationwide State of Emergency following two years of Covid, which meant all remaining mandates, including indoor mask usage and social distancing were lifted.

To put it simply, Bulgaria is now back to what it was in 2019, prior to the viral surge, and all travelers enjoy frictionless entry again.

Cases have also been dropping consistently, with the country currently reporting an average of 60 infections per 100,000 people over the last week, or only 7% of the peak. As for vaccination rates, Bulgaria’s are among the lowest in Europe, as only 31.4% of the population is fully immunized, in stark contrast with fellow EU members such as France, Germany, and Ireland, which have all attained vaccination rates of over 60%.

Still, the country has not experienced viral rebounds since infections reached an all-time high in mid-January, even after a new variant of concern was identified in Europe. Despite the general recommendation that countries only enter an endemic phase once broad vaccination coverage is achieved, Bulgaria seems ready to bring forth the process.

Bulgaria – One Of The Most Underrated Countries In Europe?

Once a relatively obscure country in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria has set out on a path to become a distinct summer destination as strong as neighboring Greece or Turkey in recent years. With an extensive Black Sea coastline, it offers tourists both sandy beaches and seaside resorts at much cheaper rates, as well as countless cultural and historical attractions.

Sunny Beach, one of the Bulgarian Riviera’s rising stars, has just been named the second most affordable summer destination in Europe. As it is not in the Eurozone, prices are much lower than the EU average, with travelers spending an average of only USD 33.78 per day when visiting Bulgaria.

On the other hand, other EU countries like Spain and France, which are both in the Eurozone, expect visitors to have a minimum of 100 euros in spending money per day.

Popular attractions in Bulgaria also include:
- Sofia, its Soviet-influenced capital
- The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
- Plovdiv, the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe
- The Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- The Seven Rila Lakes
- The Tsarevets Fortress, one of the largest in the Balkans
- The Black Sea Coast, including the historical cities of Varna and Burgas
When visiting Bulgaria, travelers are advised to follow their own country’s recommendations regarding safety and health measures. U.S. citizens are also reminded that, although Bulgaria has no entry requirements in place, pre-departure Covid testing is still required when returning to the United States from abroad.

Jamaica Removes All Entry Requirements For Tourists

After more than two years of countless updates to its entry requirements and travel warnings, Jamaica is fully reopening to all travelers without restrictions.

Set to come into effect on Friday, April 15, 2022, Jamaica has decided to lift its pre-departure Covid test requirements for travelers. The pre-departure test was the last remaining Covid-related entry requirement in place for international arrivals to Jamaica.

As a result, the Caribbean island nation will be the latest country to lift all of its Covid health-related entry restrictions for international tourists.

Pre-Departure Testing Requirement Scrapped

Jamaica’s current travel restrictions state that all visitors, regardless of vaccination status, must show a negative Covid test result (antigen or PCR) no later than 3 days from travel prior to boarding their flight. This requirement will be dropped for all travelers from tomorrow, April 15th, regardless of vaccination status.

Entry Restrictions For Jamaica: Update For Travelers

As of April 15, all tourists can enter Jamaica with:
- No pre-flight testing requirement
- No on arrival or post-arrival testing for Jamaica
- No proof of vaccination is required for entry
- No quarantines
- No countries banned due to case numbers or variants
Jamaica’s Indoor Mask Mandate Also Being Dropped April 15th

Internal health restrictions are also being dropped throughout the Caribbean island nation. On the same day that the pre-departure testing requirement will be removed, Jamaica’s ongoing mask mandate for public indoor spaces will also be dropped for tourists and locals alike.

The current measures were put in place on March 18 under an official Public Health Enforcement Measures Covid-19 Order, which included the pre-flight testing and face mask requirement. The other measures included in the Order will remain in place for the time being, according to local reports. They are:
- All persons who test positive for Covid while in Jamaica (local or tourist) must self-isolate at their accommodation until they’ve recovered.
- Giving the protection of identity for persons who might test positive for Covid.
- Owners and operators of businesses (hotels, restaurants, tour agencies), places of worship, educational institutions, etc, are required to ensure the health of all patrons by making sure hand washing/hand sanitizing stations are available upon entry.
Officials want to remind everyone that while the reported Covid case numbers in Jamaica are low at this time, the issue of new variants and the potential for case numbers to increase continues to be a reality.

Jamaica Began Easing Travel Restrictions In March 2022

Following the omicron wave and a peak in cases, Jamaica began relaxing some of its entry restrictions for travelers just last month.

From March 1st, the restrictions that were eased included the travel authorization form required to be filled out before departure to Jamaica as well as any quarantine requirements. The maximum attendance for large events was also raised from 50 to 100 persons.

Visa-Free Entry For Travelers Around The World

Jamaica is a well-known and beloved vacation spot with US and Canadian tourists any time of year.

On top of travel restrictions being scrapped, visitors from over 100 countries including the US, Canada, and the UK can enter Jamaica visa-free. New flight routes from the US to popular tourist destinations in Jamaica have also been added this year, making travel to the island much more accessible.

CDC Lowers Advisory For Jamaica

Just this week, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lowered their health risk advisory for Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Jamaica was moved down to a Level 1: Low-Risk category due to a very low daily case average of 26 reported cases.

The US State Department lowered its risk warning for Jamaica last month, putting the island nation at a Level 3: Reconsider Travel status.

Chile Removes Entry Requirements on April 14

Chilean authorities announced on Tuesday that starting on Thursday, April 14th, international travelers will no longer be required to present proof of vaccination or a PCR test to enter.

This means that travelers from all nations, regardless of vaccination status, can once again enter Chile test-free and quarantine-free.

After this announcement, Chile became the 31st country in the World to remove most entry requirements, just one day after Greece announced dropping COVID-related demands, and the second country in South America, right after Argentina.

According to the information shared on the Chilean news website Diario Financiero, the undersecretary of Public Health, Cristóbal Cuadrado, explained that travelers without a complete vaccination series certificate approved by Chilean authorities will be allowed to enter the country, but will not get a health card that is required to do certain activities such as enter specific restaurants or bars.

Covid tests will not be required either, but some passengers might be asked to take one, Cuadrado said that non-resident tourists could be randomly selected upon arrival for a mandatory test.

The Chilean government also recently announced that they will open land borders starting on May 1, and starting on April 14th masks will no longer be required outdoors. However, face coverings will still be required in regions like Arica, Tarapacá, and Isla de Pascua.

Chile has been consistent in prioritizing very strict rules for travelers, but has been easing measures within the past few days. The Chilean population represents one most successful inoculation cases in the World as 93,58% of the population has at least two vaccination doses.

What Travelers Must Know Before Traveling to Chile

Now that Chile removed its most strict travel rules and joined the list of countries without COVID entry requirements, more tourists —especially hikers and nature lovers— will be interested in visiting this fascinating destination.

Those traveling across Latin America, will now be able to include Chile as part of their route, and they can enter through the main land borders between Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, or by air through international airports.

There are still a few requirements US and Canadian travelers must consider prior to arrival. The International airport—Arturo Merino Benítez— in Santiago, Chile’s capital, recently shared valuable information for travelers on Instagram. These are the main considerations for travelers starting on April 14:
- Passengers must fill out the C19 form, an affidavit for travelers, prior to arrival.
- A PCR test will not be required upon arrival
- The validation of vaccination certificates will be optional, those who don’t do it won’t get access to the local “Pase de Movilidad”, a virtual health certificate to enter certain establishments and perform certain activities. (more about this below)
- Random COVID tests could be performed, those who test positive must be isolated for 7 days.
- Proof of travel health insurance is still required, specifically a policy that includes medical coverage in the case of covid-19 infection.
Pase de Movibilidad – The Vaccine Passport Program Inside Chile

While proof of vaccination is no longer required to enter Chile, they still have a pretty robust internal vaccine passport program in effect. Travelers will need to validate their vaccine certificates so they can access the Pase de Movibilidad app to enter indoor dining, domestic travel, cinemas, and theatres, organized tours, and large events like concerts or sports games.

It’s not an easy approval either. Travelers who want to validate their vaccination certificates —must have at least 3 doses— validated by the Chilean Ministry of Health, have to create an account at the site mevacuno.gob.cl, fill out the form of manual verification, and attach images of the ID document and a profile picture. Once submitted, they will get a response via email within 48 to 72 hours.

In addition to these considerations, travelers must stay up to date with recent announcements since local alert levels might change depending on the increase of covid cases and authorities’ criteria.

It in unkown when the Chilean government might retire the Pase de Movibilidad program, as they just recently created the booster shot requirement weeks ago.

Fewer restrictions, more travel

Not being required to take a PCR test 72 hours before entering Chile is great news for many travelers, as PCR-type tests can be expensive, and since they are used less than antigens in 2022, harder to find.

Also, since the travel considerations are similar for land entry, starting in May, travelers visiting Argentina can now easily include Chile in their itineraries.

As these neighboring countries remove covid restrictions and open borders, more adventurers will find it easier to tour Patagonia, see Chilean and Argentinian glaciers and also have the opportunity to visit the magnificent Torres del Paine and the Fits Roy in the same journey.

The Metropolitan region also has plenty of entertainment for travelers and the coastal cities have beautiful landscapes and delicious food.

Entry Requirements For Countries Permitted to Visit Philippines For Tourism

COVID-19 Testing Entry Requirements

Testing required.

In order to be able to enter the Philippines, travelers must take a test for Covid-19. This can be either an RT-PCR test taken within 48 hours of departing from their country of origin or a laboratory-administered antigen/ART test taken 24 hours prior to departure from the country of origin.

Quarantine Entry Requirements

Travelers will not have to quarantine upon arrival in the Philippines, but they are required to self-monitor for symptoms until their 7th day in the country. Those who arrive with issues regarding their Covid-19 vaccination documentation may be asked to quarantine in a government facility.

Health Form

All travelers heading to the Philippines must fill out the e-Health Declaration Card on the OneHealthPass website. This must be completed the day before or the day of the traveler’s flight. This will provide travelers with a QR code that will be checked upon arrival.

COVID-19 Travel Insurance Entry Requirements

Travelers to the Philippines must present proof of travel insurance purchased before their arrival in the country. The insurance must cover treatment for Covid-19, and it must have a minimum coverage amount of U.S.$35,000. The policy must last for the duration of the traveler’s stay in the Philippines.

COVID-19 Health Requirements While in the Philippines

The wearing of face masks in public places and on public transport has been mandated by the government of the Philippines, with some other facilities – such as medical institutions – also often requiring the use of face shields. Other restrictions may vary from place to place – travelers should ensure they do their research for each destination they are heading to. Those who do not comply may be subjected to fines.

COVID-19 Vaccine Entry Requirements

In order to visit the Philippines, travelers must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Only the following documents are accepted as proof of vaccination:
- World Health Organization International Certificate of Vaccination and Prophylaxis; or
- VaxCertPH; or
- National or State digital certificate of the country/foreign government which has accepted VaxCertPH under a reciprocal arrangement; or
- Other proofs of vaccination are permitted by the IATF.
Visa Entry Requirements For Philippines During COVID-19

Typical pre-Covid visa restrictions still apply for the Philippines. For US citizens, no visa is needed for stays that are 30 days or less, providing they have a valid passport and a return ticket.

Philippines Covid-19 Entry Requirements:
- Take an RT-PCR test 48 hours before flight or an antigen test a day before the flight
- Fill in the e-Health Declaration Card on the OneHealthPass website
- Purchase insurance that covers Covid-19, has a coverage amount of $35,000 or more and lasts the entirety of the trip
