However, on April 14, the island scrapped all entry requirements, allowing unvaccinated U.S. citizens to visit without pre-departure tests once more. Naturally, the move led demand to skyrocket, with Montego Bay outpacing every single city of the Caribbean league in terms of recovery. It should come as no surprise, then, Jamaica has swept the award show.

For Mr. Donovan White, the Director of Jamaica’s Tourist Board, this is a testament to the quality of the services provided, ‘from the largest of hotel chains’ to tour operators and other industry agents. In fact, the Round Hill Hotel and Villas has won its 14th consecutive, and 18th Best Villa prize overall.

Additionally, the country has an edge on the nature front, being home to numerous natural parks and blue flag beaches. As we have detailed before, now that restrictions have finally been abolished in a majority of countries, travelers are looking for natural world experiences and more relaxing experiences, two things that are effectively synonymous with Jamaica.

Fall is upon us, and travelers are ready to hit the road and enjoy the change in seasons. Airbnb has reported the top ten destinations in the U.S. for fall travelers, pointing out that last-minute beach destinations and college towns lead the pack. With football season beginning, fans are eager to reserve their accommodations for upcoming games. Also, with summer ending, many travelers hope to squeeze in one last trip to the beach before the cold sets in. Below are the top U.S. destinations this fall based on the number of nights booked on Airbnb.

10) Wheat Ridge, CO

Wheat Ridge is part of the Denver metropolitan area, located immediately west of Denver’s city center. It’s a great place to stay if you want to be close to downtown Denver without being right in the middle of a big city. Fall is a great time to visit, with comfortable temperatures and beautiful scenery.

9) Lexington, KY

Lexington sits about an hour south of Cincinnati and is home to the famous horse racing track, Keeneland. Fall racing begins in October and lasts nearly the entire month. University of Kentucky fans also pour into the city throughout the fall to catch the Wildcat’s football games.

Visit the Old World Village in nearby Huntington Beach for Oktoberfest from September 18^th to November 6^th.

3) Oxford, MS

The Ole Miss Rebels have a massive college football fan following, and it’s no surprise that people are flocking to Airbnbs near the University of Mississippi this fall. Oxford is in northern Mississippi, about an hour south of Memphis, Tennessee. Rowan Oak, the historic home of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner is a popular attraction in the area.

Bella Vista is a great fall getaway for travelers who want to take in the foliage. The city lies on the southern border of Mississippi. With almost 100 miles of hiking and biking trails, it’s an excellent location for connecting with nature. Seven lakes and golf courses are in the area, allowing visitors the opportunity to golf, fish, kayak, and paddleboard.

Towards the beginning of October, several blocks of Asbury Avenue are closed off for the annual Fall Block Party. Live performances, countless merchants, and artists line the streets, and there is a fireworks display in the evening. If you are in town for Halloween, you can enjoy the yearly Halloween Parade, which has been taking place for over 70 years.

American Airlines And Air Canada Relaunching Nonstop Flights To Cozumel This Fall

Viva Mexico! Indisputably America’s favorite international destination, the country is experiencing a significant increase in flight frequency lately, with airlines battling among themselves for dominance in key markets. American Airlines and Air Canada are among some of the strongest contenders, having just added new nonstop flights to Cozumel.

Now that the colder months are approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, demand for Caribbean travel could be reaching an all-time high for the first official post-pandemic travel season. Interestingly, Mexico remains a regional leader in bookings, in spite of heavy competition from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and the like.

Following the latest announcement, Cozumel, one of its most sought-after beaches, is about to get a lot busier:

American Airlines Adding Flights To Cozumel From Two U.S. Cities

As part of their fall and winter program, which also features flights to other sunny spots like Cuba and skiing hubs, American Airlines is reinstating their Cozumel flights. Departing weekly from Charlotte, North Carolina, with a start date set for October 8, Cozumel complements American’s already-comprehensive Mexican flight map.

Although it was originally established as a seasonal offer, customers booking through the carrier’s website will notice nonstop service is available up to July 29, 2023, the furthest the calendar goes on the date this article was written. While we have not obtained confirmation, judging by this schedule, Cozumel is looking like a permanent addition.

In other words, Charlotte-based travelers will have a direct link to the pristine island throughout winter and well into summer 2023, unlike customers residing elsewhere in the U.S. Airfares are considerably higher than the average Cancun flight, starting at $370 one-way, but much cheaper seats can be found when reserved months in advance.

Flights will depart every Saturday at 9:05 from Charlotte Douglas International (CLT), landing in Cozumel International (CZM) at 11:16. Returning home the next Saturday, Charlotteans should be at the gate at 1:00 (in the morning), landing at 5:00, though connecting flights in Austin, Texas are available throughout the week.

Other details include:
- Flight time 3h00 (roughly)
- Operated by an Airbus A319
- Seats distributed between Basic Economy, Main Economy, and Business Classes
- Refreshments are available for Basic and Main Economy customers
- Business travelers have free breakfast
- Features AC power, live TV, personal device streaming and high-speed WiFi*
*WiFi is usually available for a fee

Charlotte is not the only U.S. hub being awarded its own air bridge with the paradise island: Philadelphia will begin hosting once-a-week Cozumel flights from November 5, a seasonal strategy ending April 1, 2023, according to the company’s own online flight schedule. Much like Charlotte’s, the Philadelphia-Cozumel route will be open on Saturdays.

Departure time is 10:40 a.m. and the journey lasts 4h40 approximately, with 2:20 a.m. as the tentative arrival time. On the way back, he flight leaves Cozumel at 2:39 p.m., touching down in Philadelphia at 7:35 p.m. Economy tickets can cost as little as $280 one-way, depending on seat availability and travel dates.

Besides Cancun, Cozumel is the only other destination American Airlines serves in the Mayan Riviera from Philadelphia International. The route is operated by an Embraer 175 under American Eagle, a regional branch of American Airlines. Unlike the Airbus 319 deployed for Charlotte, this aircraft is not equipped with WiFi.

Air Canada Offering Cozumel Flights From Its Toronto Base

Lastly, Air Canada is bringing Canadians much closer to Cozumel, being the latest major airline to announce nonstop flights to the island. Leaving from Toronto Pearson, flights will start November 6 under the Air Canada Rouge logo, a subsidiary of the nation’s flag-carrier. Throughout November, frequency will be weekly, more specifically every Sunday.

Beginning December, this will increase to twice a week, culminating in three-weekly flights from January 2023. Flight duration is 4h20 and one-way tickets start at $425, making it a pricier alternative to Cancun’s busy airport. On the other hand, Cozumel’s arrival figures are significantly lower, resulting in fewer delays.

Luckily, Torontonians no longer face layovers in the U.S. or Mexico vacationing there. Sunday timetables for November are as follows:

Outbound
- Departure from Toronto: 10:20 a.m.
- Arrival in Cozumel: 2:40 p.m.
Return
- Departure from Cozumel: 3:35 p.m.
- Arrival in Toronto: 7:35 p.m.
A few of Cozumel’s top rated attractions are Playa Caletita, in close proximity to the island’s ferry terminal, the landmark Punta Sur Eco Beach Park, and the Mayan monument-packed San Gervasio Archaeological Site. All around the island, snorkeling and open sea swimming are among popular activities.

With summer coming to a close and fall on its way, travelers are eager to plan their autumn trips. Fall travel may not see the same demand as summer, but the financial benefits make it worth it for many. Travelers looking to save can take advantage of the fact that flight prices tend to lower once the summer travel season ends. Luckily, Expedia has announced several destinations offering the most savings for travelers looking to get away this fall.

Expedia looked at average prices for round-trip flights and/or accommodation rates when assembling their list of fall travel deals. If possible, travelers should plan their vacations for the week of September 26^th if they are planning to stay in the United States. Average ticket prices are predicted to be nearly half off compared to summer fares for this week, making it the best time to fly off for your fall vacation.

If you are planning to jet off to another country, your best week for travel will be the week of October 10^th. Ticket prices will be about 20% less than they were over the summer, and the crowds won’t be a problem. In both cases, flying out on a Tuesday or Wednesday will offer the best fares.

Los Cabos And Cancun At Level 2 Travel Advisory Heading Into The Fall

Heading south of the border this fall?

You may have seen the U.S. Department of State has issued updated travel advisories for each individual Mexican destination this fall. While security risks in places like Puerto Vallarta are considered high enough to warrant a Level 3 badge, meaning Americans should ‘reconsider travel‘ due to crime and even kidnapping risks, others like Cabo and Cancun remained at a much safer Level 2.

Mexico is the number one destination for Americans going abroad. Boasting a pristine coastline extending for miles on end, some of the best preserved pre-Columbian sites in all of the Americas, and home to one of the world’s richest, and most diverse cuisine, it definitely deserves its hard-earned title of King of Tourism.

On the downside, its recent run-ins with the law have been a cause for concern, particularly among first-time visitors. Luckily, that’s not the case with America’s favorites Cabo and Cancun:

Is Mexico A Safe Place To Visit?

Before anything else, we should probably point out Mexic is pretty safe to visit. There is a reason the country has been smashing tourism records lately, with Los Cabos even outpacing majority of beach destinations in the wider region in terms of tourism growth. Yes, crime can occur, but in any tourist setting, chances are slim.

Although we cannot disregard the warnings coming from the United States Government, seeing that they are official and data-informed, we should note an ‘increased risk’ of crime is merely that: a risk. It does not mean it will happen, or that it will affect Americans in Mexico. In fact, the vast majority of them will experience a trouble-free vacation.

Tourists Should Exercise Increased Caution Visiting Cabo And Cancun

That being said, the U.S. has nevertheless granted a Level 2 status to the Baja California Sur and Quintana Roo states, of which Los Cabos and Cancun are a part of. In simpler terms, these destinations are not under a particularly high threat of crime, or are turf war hotspots, like other Level 3, or even Level 4 ‘No Travel’ cities.

As per the department’s statement, U.S. citizens should only ‘exercise increase caution’ in the region due to crime, a warning that, in reality, applies to every single major international destination. Unlike in the states of Jalisco or Sinaloa, there are currently ‘no restriction’ on travel for U.S. Government employees based in Baja California Sur, or even tourists.

Similarly, Quintana Roo – and the Riviera Maya on an extent – has not been blacklisted by the department, featuring on the same Level 2 list as Cabo. All of the Mexican Caribbean’s consolidated stars, namely Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres and Chetumal are not deemed seriously dangerous for tourists.

The advisory mentions ‘criminal activity and violence may occur in any location, at any time, including in popular tourist destinations‘, but then again, this same advice could be replicated for numerous countries, including the U.S., where pick-pocketing and illicit activities have long posed a problem (especially in New York, L.A., and other large cities).

Naturally, minor incidents cannot be ruled out, and while this is far from being exclusive to Cabo or Cancun, like anywhere else, visitors must not let their guards down when flying abroad. In fact, maintaining a high level of situational awareness is key to a stress-free vacation in the Riviera Maya and Cabo’s Pacific Coast.

Essentially, Americans must observe all of these rules:
- Avoid walking after dark in poorly-lit pedestrian zones
- Refrain from visiting by yourself peripheral districts of Cancun or Cabo that do not normally receive a lot of tourists
- ‘Promptly depart’ from areas where dangerous events are unfolding, however rare
- Constantly checking the U.S. Department of State web-page for all the latest updates on travel to Cancun
*Personally, we would recommend not flashing jewelry or other expensive belongings that may attract thieves

Bottomline

Realistically, tourists should not feel as if they have a target on their backs traveling in Cabo or Cancun. At the same time, exercising caution when abroad, whether it’s Mexico or elsewhere, is of paramount importance. In Mexico specifically, violent incidents are not directed at visitors, but they can still be injured finding themselves in the wrong place, wrong time.

At the same time, you probably risk getting robbed strolling alone after sundown in New York, as well. Sod’s law.

Once again, the occasions in which tourists are harmed, or witness acts of violence, are incredibly rare. Additionally, the Mexican Government takes tourism very seriously, and has clamped down on crime lately by deploying more police to tourist areas and ensuring Americans feel safe when vacationing in Cabo or Cancun.

In comparison, tourists should ‘reconsider travel’ to Puerto Vallarta and the whole state of Jalisco, which has been placed under the Level 3 listing, only one step short of being blacklisted by the Federal Government. In essence, despite these warnings, the states of Baja California Sur and Quintana Roo are considered much safer for travel than Jalisco, for example.

Visiting Mexico soon?
- Follow the official advice and plan your itinerary accordingly, making sure you cross out blacklisted regions
- Pre-book transfers between the airport and your hotel, or in between municipalities, in order to avoid Mexico’s infamous taxi scams
- Call 911, Mexico’s national emergency number whenever in need, especially when finding yourself in a dangerous situation
- Of course, don’t forget to enjoy your sunny getaway!

Cancun is calling, once again.

TripAdvisor released its fall travel index this week and the verdict is in: Mexico ranks #1 for U.S. travelers this fall, with Cancun being the top destination of choice for 2022.

While Cancun broke records for its number of international arrivals over the pandemic, things don’t seem to be slowing down for Cancun. With pristine beaches, plenty of all-inclusive getaway opportunities, festivals galore, great food, a huge party scene, and so much more, tourists can’t seem to get enough of Cancun.

In this post, we’ll go through what to look forward to when visiting Cancun for the fall season 2022.

Fall Is The Ideal Season To Travel To Cancun

Visiting Cancun during the fall months (October-December) means that you’ll have escaped the intense heat (well, more intense than usual) of the summer months. Instead, you’ll be treated with evening breezes and mild morning temperatures.

Just be aware that October is typically the tail end of the hurricane season which is most of late August and September, so you might encounter some bits of rain or stormy weather.

If there is one phrase that has consistently made headlines for travel this summer, it’s travel chaos. Never-ending lines for security, consistent delays and cancellations, and piles of lost luggage have become a grim reality for travelers this summer, particularly in Europe. In fact, Europe was considered the worst place to travel this summer due to how chaotic things have been at airports across the region. Travelers hoping to return to normalcy before an upcoming trip to Europe this fall may be in for some disappointment.

Why Are Things So Bad in Europe?

Earlier this year, many European countries removed their covid restrictions for international travelers. As a result, the demand for travel to Europe exploded. Travelers were more eager than ever for a vacation after spending the last two years unable to travel. Unfortunately, staffing did not increase at the same rate as demand, and the world is now experiencing the travel chaos that has become the new normal.

Staffing is low across the board, with a shortage of pilots, baggage handlers, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, and security personnel. Some countries, like the United Kingdom, have changed their laws regarding the recruitment of aviation staff. Still, many efforts to curb the chaos are too little too late. Adding fuel to the fire, many remaining staff are unsatisfied, overworked, and underpaid. As a result, strikes have plagued European airports and airlines, furthering the problem. The problems are here to stay for the time being, and fall trips to Europe are no exception.

Will Things Be Better This Fall?

In a recent interview with United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, the executive said that the aviation sector would not return to normal operations until the summer of 2023. According to Kirby, the main issue holding back the return to normalcy is staffing. United has stated they have the staff to be a larger airline than their current capacity shows. Still, they will continue to scale back operations until the rest of the aviation industry can support them. While United waits for the rest of the industry to catch up, here are some other actions in Europe that may contribute to a rocky fall season.

Flight Caps

Several major European airports have attempted to combat this summer’s travel chaos by imposing restrictions on how many flights are allowed in or out of the airport per day. Airports currently imposing flight caps include London Heathrow, Frankfurt Airport, Amsterdam’s Schiphol, and London Gatwick. Each airport has its own limits and dates set for their respective caps as follows:
- London Heathrow – Daily passenger cap of 100,000. The current cap lasts until at least the end of October.
- London Gatwick – Dropped operational capacity from 900 to 825 and 850 for July and August, respectively. The current cap lasts through August, and future caps have yet to be announced.
- Frankfurt Airport – Taking a different approach, Frankfurt Airport has reduced its hourly flights from 96 to 88. The cap is in place until further notice.
- Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport – Amsterdam has been the European capital for air travel chaos. It has an August cap set at 72,500 travelers per day. The airport recently announced they would be extending the cap with 67,500 travelers per day allowed in September and 69,500 per day in October. In an unrelated cap, the airport intends to combat climate change by instituting a permanent cap from 2023.
Strikes

As if staffing shortages weren’t enough, strikes have also plagued European airports, airlines, and train services this summer. Ryanair passengers in Spain this fall could see their trips disrupted by planned strikes by union members who work for the airline. According to its members, the union intends to strike Monday-Thursday every week until January 7^th.

Similarly, passengers flying with EasyJet in Spain may see disruption during planned strikes throughout August and potentially beyond. Those traveling to London this August will be affected by strikes planned by London Underground and Overground staff. If demands remain unmet for any of the above strikes, they will likely continue into the fall and beyond.

Covid Restrictions In Europe

Currently, only a few countries in Europe remain with Covid restrictions. Most countries have scrapped testing requirements and mask-wearing. However, Germany recently announced a plan to combat an expected increase in Covid cases for the fall, which includes reinstating mask mandates in the event of a sharp rise in cases. Other countries may have similar plans, but travelers can only speculate at this point. As fall progresses, travelers may face travel disruption from the reintroduction of Covid restrictions.

Bottom Line

The summer has undoubtedly been one of the most chaotic to date for travelers across the world. Those hoping for a reprieve during fall are likely to be disappointed, and travel chaos is expected to continue. Knowing which airports are the best for avoiding delays, being aware of your passenger rights, and staying up to date on the potential reintroduction of restrictions are all steps travelers should take this fall to ensure a smooth trip.

Germany And Ireland Preparing To Reintroduce Mandatory Masks This Fall

With a new wave of Covid on the horizon, a number of countries are preparing to bring back dreaded pandemic mandates once more, including hugely popular tourist destinations like Germany and Ireland. In these European nations, mandatory mask usage may again be enforced starting this fall, should infection trends continue rising.

Even though a majority of countries are now open with no travel restrictions, Germany and Ireland included, we admit we may have jumped the gun in affirming the world is ready to treat Covid as endemic. If Germany’s recent back and forth with restrictions are any indication, travelers will face a high degree of unpredictability moving forward.

Even when their final destination has already dropped all pandemic rules, preservation of personal freedoms is no longer guaranteed:

Germany Planning To Make Masks Compulsory Again In Indoor Settings From October

Having backtracked twice on their reopening plans ahead of finally dropping all entry rules in early June, Germany is again discussing proposals to tighten mandates. This time, it’s masks that may be making a comeback after the summer travel season ends, according to local news outlet Die Welt.

It seems the German Government is seriously considering issuing a mask mandate in all public spaces starting this fall, when Covid infections have a potential to rise due to increased social mixing in poorly-ventilated enclosed areas. Confirming the proposal is being actively debated, Die Welt even dubbed it the ‘O-bis-O’ scheme.

‘O-bis-O’ stands for ‘Oktober bis Ostern’, translated into English as ‘From October to March’. While no official measures have yet been announced, this would mean visitors would be required to wear face masks in a majority of settings, including bars, restaurants and shops, throughout the whole winter season.

Unarguably the EU’s leading nation, Germany’s change in approach could have reverberations across the entire continent, which has been enjoying far greater freedoms lately. Its current lax health measures, enshrined into the Infection Protection Act, are set to expire in September, adding further weight to these findings.

So far, the German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has not commented on an eventual return of mandatory masks in October, though his latest recommendations seem to point to a strengthening of the rules. Despite conceding the current data ‘does not justify making mas use a legal requirement’ right now, Lauterbach stood firmly in his recommendations that the public must adhere to masks.

He has urged visitors to keep their face coverings, as Germany already reaches 35% of its previous peak of infections. Unfortunately, the numbers are set to rise even further, as reported by Reuters. Up until this point, Germany has not communicated any changes to its mask policies or border measures affecting travelers, but that may change with no warning.

Ireland Could Be Following Suit

Proving Germany’s initiative is already having a ripple effect on Europe, Ireland is mulling a new mask mandate to be reinstated in the event of a ‘possible emergency in winter’. As the Irish Times announced, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly will be drafting a new law imposing mandatory mask-wearing across the country.

Earlier this year, as Ireland moved away from pandemic conservatism and fully reopened, all legislation concerning mask usage had been allowed to expire. The decision could be overturned soon, as Government sources confirm the intention is to ‘draft legislation that could be passed quickly’ if the need arises.

Infections in Ireland are nowhere nearly as pronounced as Germany’s, but we all have seen, time and again, how volatile pandemic trends can be, and how fast the virus can disseminate once a new variant stars seeding. As new sub-lineages of Covid are identified, Ireland is reporting the highest daily case count since January.

Ireland’s Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has directly linked the viral rebound to the spread of two of Omicron’s most infectious offspring, the BA. 4 and BA. 5 sub-variants. In recent data, the HPSC has confirmed 77 per cent of cases detected in the seven days leading up to June 18 were caused by either BA. 4 or BA. 5.

As things stand, visiting Ireland today looks a lot like being a tourist in 2019. Whether it’s pub crawling or chasing the country’s world-renowned natural landmarks along its rugged Western Coast, visitors are not expected to present vaccine passes or wear masks. Based on the information gathered here, this could change once summer is over.

Is France Next In Line?

Elsewhere in Europe, countries that stood among the first to drop the mask rule are now reconsidering their liberal stance. That is the case with France, whose Prime Minister is strongly recommending mask usage despite the country lifting the mandate just over a month ago. Essentially, what started as a promising Covid-free summer is slowly turning into a new nightmare.

Coupled with the latest spate of flight cancellations, the ups and downs of Covid continue posing big challenges to travelers this year. Delta Cancels Flights To These Five Cities This Fall

Delta has recently revealed that it has officially canceled flights to five cities across the US, with the cancellations in question starting this Fall. The most recent casualties of the post-pandemic cull of non-essential routes, Delta’s announcement makes it simply the latest in a long, growing list of airlines the world over that have moved to trim their overall route offerings in recent months, as airlines continue to scale back their operations and prioritize their services on the back of a tough period for the aviation industry.

Yet whilst Delta, which is the third-largest airline in the US, may be set to cut routes, the airline has also recently announced some additions to its overall flight roster. Here’s a closer look at which routes are set to be affected by Delta’s latest route trimming announcements, plus a recap of the new flight offerings that have emerged from the airline in recent months.

Delta Cut Routes – Information for Travelers

Like it has been for most businesses around the world, the pandemic has been particularly tough on the aviation industry. Between Covid-19 related pilot shortages and travelers following advice to stay home, several air routes that were not amongst the most popular or profitable have been slashed by airlines across the country, with just 80% of the flight routes available in 2019 now available for travelers to take this year.

Even major airlines like Delta have been forced to make cuts, as this week’s announcement shows. Delta revealed that they will be cutting flights to five cities throughout the month of September. The cities set to be affected by the route cuts are Albany, Rochester and Syracuse in New York, in addition to flights to Providence, Rhode Island and Houston, Texas.

From September 6th, Delta will no longer be operating flights from its Minneapolis-St. Paul hub airport to Albany and Rochester, with flights from Minneapolis to Syracuse, also being cut from September 12th. Not only will this cut the airline’s connectivity with New York, but it will force regular flyers of the route to take the flight with Delta’s competitors, which could see them incur some lengthy connection times in comparison to Delta’s.

Delta will also be cutting its flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Providence, Rhode Island from September 5th in what could be another blow to regulars of the route. Fortunately for travelers, there is still the option of flying from Minneapolis directly to Providence with Sun Country Airlines, which operates four direct flights between the two airports per week. The airline’s fifth and final route cancellation will be between John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York and Houston, Texas from September 12th.

As is the case with many regional airport flight route cuts, the decision has been largely made due to lack of demand. A spokesperson for the airline said “We continue to monitor and adjust our flight schedules and route network based on customer demand,” which suggests more route cuts could be on the cards in the future.

However, it hasn’t all been cuts coming out of Delta, with the airline recently having announced a series of new, exciting routes for travelers to take advantage of. Already this year, Delta revealed it would be adding more flights between the US and Hawaii starting in November, in addition to several new transatlantic flights for those looking to go a bit further this summer.
