As the long, sun-drenched days of summer give way to the crisp, golden light of autumn, a different kind of travel magic awakens in Europe.

The massive summer crowds begin to thin, the weather cools to a perfect, sweater-friendly temperature, and the continent’s most beautiful destinations transform with a flurry of auburn leaves.

It’s a season that savvy travelers know is one of the best times to explore, and it feels like it’s coming early this year!

We just had a Travel Off Path meetup in Paris last week and can confirm, the fall vibes are here!

But with an entire continent of options, deciding where to go can be overwhelming.

Do you default to the usual suspects, or do you look for something with a bit more character?

To help cut through the noise, the travel experts at Condé Nast Traveller have curated a list of their favorite fall destinations for 2025.

This isn’t your standard list—it’s a fantastic mix of stylish city breaks, cozy countryside escapes, and unique adventures that capture the true spirit of autumn in Europe.

Beyond Pumpkin Spice: A New Kind of Fall Trip

While many fall travel lists focus only on foliage, this expert-approved guide is all about the vibe. It recognizes that a perfect autumn trip means something different to everyone.

For some, it’s the energy of a world-class city, where you can explore museums and galleries by day and dive into a vibrant restaurant scene by night. For others, it’s the complete opposite: the peaceful tranquility of a lakeside retreat or the rugged charm of a blustery coastal walk.

The destinations on this list reflect that incredible diversity. Think beyond the standard capital cities and imagine yourself sipping a boozy hot chocolate in a grand café in Vienna, hunting for vintage fashion and design inspiration on the stylish streets of Copenhagen, or escaping the crowds for an early-season ski run under the gaze of the Matterhorn in Zermatt.

From the late-season sun and hiking trails of Madeira to the energetic nightlife of Amsterdam, this list is a reminder that a fall escape can be anything you want it to be.

  • Spain Is Launching A Digital Nomad Visa In 2023 – Find Out If You’re Eligible

Spain Is Launching A Digital Nomad Visa In 2023 – Find Out If You’re Eligible

    [ad_1]

After teasing it for months, Spain is looking set to finally write into law its long-awaited Startup Act in early 2023, opening a new migration route for foreign workers who might fancy a move to the country, including digital nomads. While it doesn’t carry this particular name, the new regulation is, in effect, an equivalent to a Digital Nomad Visa (DNV).

Male Remote Worker Or Digital Nomad Wearing Summery Clothes As He Works From A Balcony In A Coastal Location With Some Fruit And Croissant On The Table, Spain

This year, several countries in Europe began opening up to nomads, including the tourist hotspots of Greece, Italy, Croatia and Albania, who all have the advantage of being located in the continent’s sunny south, and a pleasant, temperate climate year-round. Spain, on the other hand, had been the only missing piece on this wider Mediterranean puzzle.

Luckily for nomads enamored with the Iberian nation, they will soon be able to stay longer than 3 months, as long as some requirements are met:

Are You Eligible For Spain’s DNV?

Historical Bridge In Ronda, A Small Town In Andalusia, Spain

Spain’s Startup Act had been making the rounds for years before a final draft was finally adopted in late 2021, triggering a ratification process that saw long debates, and multiple delays as the Spanish Parliament sought to perfect it. Now, it has passed the ‘lower’ House of Government, and should finally enter into force in January 2023. But what does this mean?

The Ley de Startups will allow foreigners from outside Spain and the European Economic Area to apply for a residence visa on the basis of being a remote worker, either self employed, or an employee in a non-Spanish company registered outside Spain. That’s the sum of it, but there are other requirements that are worth going over:

Traditional White Houses Of Triana, A Historical Neighborhood In Seville, Andalusia, Spain

For instance, unlike employees, self-employed nomads are allowed to offer their services to Spanish companies, but only partially, with up to 20% of all declared income originating from within Spain. There is a reason for that: this law is being approved in order to attract foreign investment without taking jobs away from locals, which leads us to the next item.

There are, of course, income requirements to be met. According to law firm Global Citizen Solutions, visa applicants must earn at least twice the amount the average worker in Spain is paid. This means having at least €2100 (or USD2207.78 at the current conversion rate) of ‘verifiable income’ monthly, though the actual financial threshold could be even higher.

Global Citizen Solutions suggests a round figure – €3000 – but this is yet to be confirmed by Spanish authorities. While it is certainly more bureaucratic, and harder to obtain than a developing country’s DNV, Spain’s new visa is bound to be a hit, seeing that the coastal city of Valencia has just been named the best destination for expats worldwide.

As for the duration of the visa itself, it is still up to speculation, though other DNVs issued by Spain’s EU counterparts range between one and two years, and they are usually renewable for more years once the initial period has elapsed. We are not able to verify these information right now, seeing that the visa is yet to be launched, but Global Citizen Solutions reiterates that:

    • First and foremost, European citizens are not eligible: they can already live and work from Spain requirement-free*
    • Applicants cannot be employed by a company based in Spain
    • Self-employed nomads can only have 20% of their income originating from Spanish sources
    • Nomads cannot have been residents in Spain in the past five years
    • They must have had a stable source of income for at least one year ahead of submitting their application
    us passport macbook laptop
    • They must present a clean criminal record
    • Applicants who have been refused entry to Spain and the wider Schengen Area are not eligible to apply
    • Health insurance is mandatory throughout the entirety of their stay in Spanish territory
    • Proof of accommodation in Spain is required (short-term rentals are generally accepted)

*If you’re an American, but hold a second EU, EFTA (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) or Swiss nationality, you do not need visas to move to Spain

A DNV Visa For Spain Is A Free Pass To The Whole Of Europe

Spain is also an expensive country to live in, so it’s understandable they would expect nomads to earn well above the minimum wage. After all, the whole point of nomad visas is to attract self-sufficient entrepreneurs with enough money to positively impact local communities, without increasing the burden on an already-stretched public sector.

Perhaps the best thing about applying for a DNV in an EU member – or rather, a Schengen Area state – is the fact that it grants the visa holder unlimited access to all 27 countries in the border-free zone. In other words, once your DNV is approved, you have a free pass to travel most of Europe without worrying about overstaying and being punished for it.

As a common rule, Americans can only remain in Spain, and on an extent, the territories of the European countries applying the Schengen acquis, for only 90 days in every 180-day period. Once those three months are used up within any six months, they are required to exit the area, and are unable to return to any of the 27 members for a further 90 days.

If traveling Europe as you work remotely is your goal, then a Digital Nomad Visa, be it Spain, or Greece, or Portugal, or any country participating in Schengen, could prove extremely useful to you. We do not know at this point, however, whether visa holders will be required to maintain a residence in Spain specifically for a certain number of months every year.

Spain Square (Plaza de Espana), Seville, Spain, built on 1928, it is one example of the Regionalism Architecture mixing Renaissance and Moorish styles.

Top Destinations To Work Remotely From Spain

Some of the top destinations to consider when moving to Spain are:

    • Valencia, an often overlooked coastal gem with a growing population of American and British expats
    • Gran Canaria and Tenerife, two ‘workcation’ hubs in the Canaries that have partnered with AirBnB recently to attract more digital nomads
    • Barcelona, the historical capital of the autonomous Catalonia, where La Sagrada Familia and countless works by Gaudi can be found
A popular view of Barcelona in the summer
    • Seville, the largest city in Andalusia and one of Spain’s most culturally-charged, home to La Giralda and the landmark Plaza de Espana
    • Formentera, the smaller of the Balearic islands and Ibiza’s smaller, southern neighbor, packed with marine parks and pristine beaches
    • Bilbao, a vibrant metropolis in Northern Spain, more specifically Basque Country, famous for its world-class museums and colorful Old Quarter

Want to find the perfect place to stay on your next trip? Try this useful TikTok hack recommended by a travel expert!

TikTok user Jessica Tsoi created a viral video sharing her unique strategy for planning your next trip.

The popular video platform has had a large impact on the travel industry. Users share videos on travel hacks for everything, from saving money on airline fees to the best way to choose a destination for your next trip.

    Female Travelers looking at phone

TikTok has also helped certain destinations skyrocket in popularity after being showcased on the app. It’s a great resource for travel planning and finding inspiration for your next trip.

And in the case of Tsoi’s video, it will help you find the perfect place to stay on your trip.

    Woman Traveling With Phone

    What’s The Viral TikTok Hack?

Normally, travelers decide on a destination, book a hotel or Airbnb, and then start planning an itinerary of attractions, sights, and restaurants.

However, the problem with this is that the accommodation they booked may not actually be close to any of the things they want to do. Just because a hotel is top-rated or claims to be in a good location, it doesn’t actually mean it’s close to most of the traveler’s interests.

In her video, Tsoi recommends reverse-engineering your trip instead.

“It has come to my attention that not everyone plans a trip this way. And ever since I started doing this, I can’t look back,” says Tsoi, a frequent traveler who shares travel vlogs on her TikTok account.

Rather than booking a place to stay first, Tsoi suggests using Google My Maps to build out your itinerary first.

This free tool from Google allows you to create your own custom map and drop a pin on locations you want to visit.

Tsoi even suggests going a step further by grouping your pins together and color-coding them based on attractions you want to visit, restaurants you want to try, and transportation options you will use.

Once you’ve done this, you can save your custom map and narrow down the best location to stay based on where the most pins are clustered on your map.

    Google Maps on phone, tiktok

Tsoi also recommends doing a Google search for the best areas to stay in the destination you’re visiting and comparing that to your own map.

Then you can go to a hotel booking engine like Expedia or Hotels.com and zoom in to a particular area, filtering your search results to only show hotels within that zone.

You will see all the hotels available for your target area on your specific dates, and you can further filter by star rating, review score, price, amenities, and more.

    Woman Booking Hotel Online

What’s The Benefit Of Following This Trick?

Planning your trip this way has several benefits.

First, it allows you to find a place to stay in an area that’s actually close to the things you want to do so you can avoid having to pay for taxis, take a long public transportation journey, or walk for miles just to reach the places you want to go every day.

It also helps you avoid overpaying for a hotel that claims to be in a great location but may not actually be centrally located. It also lets you avoid booking a hotel just based on brand name and not your actual convenience.

Plotting out your itinerary using Google Maps also helps you familiarize yourself with your destination before you go, making things easier and faster once you arrive.

By following this easy TikTok travel hack, you can make planning your next trip a breeze and find the perfect place to stay based on your own custom itinerary.

  • Flight Costs Are Soaring But This Trick Will Find International Tickets For Under $200

Flight Costs Are Soaring But This Trick Will Find International Tickets For Under $200

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

This summer has seen a massive increase in travel demand as the world continues to shed Covid-era restrictions. As a result, airfares surged by more than 50% when demand was skyrocketing. Although there may be some reprieve for flight costs this fall, prices remain high, leaving some travelers wondering if it is even worth booking a trip. However, for those not locked in on any particular travel dates, there is a simple trick to find international fares for under $200. The tool used is likely familiar, but the method and feature used may not be. Using a feature of Google Flights and some helpful filters, travelers can find an international flight to many destinations at a price point that doesn’t break the bank.

    Requirements

    1. In order for this method to work, the number one requirement for travelers is flexibility, either with their intended destination, their trip dates, or both. Maximum flight savings will trend with maximum flexibility.
    2. While not a set-in-stone requirement, traveling out of a larger airport hub will net the most savings. For example, international flights from New York City are almost always cheaper than those from smaller, less-connected airlines. If travelers live near a larger airport, it may be worth the drive to save on fares.
    3. Time. Travelers will have to spend a bit more time researching with this method, but the savings can be worth it. In particular, it’s worth investigating what hidden fees may be lurking behind a cheap fare, such as extra baggage fees.
Two travelers looking at a laptop as they plan their trip

    The Feature & Methods Used

The first step will be heading over to the Google Flights landing page. From here, rather than punching in destinations and dates, click on the “Explore” tab. From here, travelers can find flights and trip ideas that will fit their criteria and, hopefully, a great deal! As mentioned above, this method is most useful for travelers who either don’t have a particular destination in mind, don’t have specific travel dates in mind, or both. This article will outline best practices for each circumstance.

Travelers looking out at boats on an international trip to Malta

    Completely Flexible Travelers

    1. Head to the Explore Tab on Google Flights.
    2. Put your departure city in & change the trip to “one way” to find the best deals.
    3. The default search parameter for dates is a “Trip in the next months”. Completely flexible travelers can feel free to leave this setting untouched.
    4. Suggested Filters
      1. Price – Less than $200.
      1. Travel Mode – Flights only
      1. Stops – 1 stop or fewer. Travelers ok with more layovers can adjust accordingly.
Fare Cost Comparison From New York To Europe

Now the world is yours! Drag the world map around to find destinations that interest you and enjoy the savings. An example with the above parameters using New York City as the departure city and Europe as the region of interest lies above. As you can see, there are several European cities with fares that are less than $200, including Rome, Athens, Milan, Berlin, Lisbon, and London. Dragging the map over to the Caribbean and South America also yields favorable fares, with many closer to $100 than $200.

Fare Cost Comparison From New York To Caribbean

Travelers With Specific Dates Or Destinations

While travelers with less flexibility will not be able to find deals as good as those with complete flexibility, this method is still worth using to find savings. Depending on the criteria for the trip, travelers only need to change one setting in the search to match their needs.

    • Specific Dates – For travelers with particular dates, click on the box that, by default, reads, “Trip in the next 6 months.” Click “Specific dates” and enter your departure date.
    • Specific Destinations – For travelers with particular destinations, click the box that says “Where to?” and input your destination. The “Trip in the next 6 months” box should remain unchanged.
Young Female Traveler Looking Excited As She Books A Flight Ticket With Her Laptop, Unpacked Luggage On Her Side

Travelers with specific dates and destinations are less likely to find fares for under $200, but it isn’t impossible. If no results show, prices and the number of stops may need to be adjusted to find the lowest pricing. Similarly, suppose there is a better-connected airport within driving distance. In that case, it may be worth checking to see what deals can be found by switching departure airports.

Male Traveler In Summer Clothes Making His Way To A Train, Train Travel Concept

    Final Tips

The Explore tab is a great way to find flight deals when you can be flexible with destinations or dates. A good rule of thumb is more flexibility means more savings. However, travelers can filter by month, specific dates, non-stop vs. multiple stops, continent, country, or city. A new and exciting place could be waiting that you’d never considered before, and this is a method to use to find it.
