An impressive 77.8 million passengers used Denver International Airport in 2023, which is not only a new all-time record but also a 12.1% increase in 2022.

Stats like this show just how popular Denver is as a destination – so why should you consider visiting the ‘Mile-High City’ this Spring?

It’s Shoulder Season

Denver’s two main shoulder seasons are in the fall and in the spring.

Between March and May, you will find the city has more comfortable temperatures compared to the extremes of summer and winter, and it should also be less crowded.

This can lead to cheaper hotels and other accommodations in the city – you can fairly easily find a hotel in the $125 to $150 per night price bracket during the spring, possibly even cheaper if you stay a little outside the center.

And if you do decide to do that, you can easily get around on Denver’s affordable and convenient public transport.

There’s a strong bus and light rail network, and you can get tickets for each on a handy RTD app on your smartphone.

Cheap And Easy To Get To

Denver International Airport is home to two major U.S. airlines, Frontier and United, so you can be assured there is almost limitless choice when it comes to flights.

A brief check-in with Skyscanner shows that you can get flights to Denver for an average price of about $50 one-way in the spring from American locations such as Atlanta, Kansas City, Dallas, Portland, Detroit, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, and more.

Tasty Temptations

It might not always get the recognition it deserves on this count, but Denver is a great city for food lovers.

And between 1-10 March, the city will run its annual Denver Restaurant Week event with four specific price points to choose from: $25, $35, $45, or $55.

This means you can enjoy a multi-course meal at one of over 200 participating restaurants for a set price – it’s a great way to fully explore the food scene here.

This year will also be the 20^th anniversary of the event, so expect some extra fanfare and maybe even some extra special offers.

City Of Art And Culture

Of course, Denver is well-known as a great base camp for a winter holiday, but different parts of the city come to life in the spring as things start to warm up.

In May, in particular, a host of music events will take place, such as the Five Points JazzFest and the Denver Day of Rock.

That same month will also host the Colfax Marathon and the popular Cinco de Mayo celebration.

In between all those great events, you can fill the time by checking out Denver’s excellent art scene – Denver Art Museum just re-opened one of its main buildings after renovations.

After traveling to 50+ countries solo as a female traveler, including almost all of Latin America, one country stands out to me as a great destination for solo female travelers: Ecuador.

Although Ecuador is not typically at the top of the list of popular solo female travel destinations, this South American country is actually a great place for solo female travelers to visit.

Ecuador is full of natural beauty, from the biodiverse Galapagos Islands to Cotopaxi Volcano. Part of the Amazon rainforest is in Ecuador, while its Pacific Coast is known for its great surfing beaches.

Here’s what makes Ecuador perfect for women traveling alone:

1. Ecuador Is Safe

Safety is a top concern for solo female travelers.

And overall, Ecuador is a very safe country to visit as long as you take standard precautions.

Unfortunately, it’s true that Ecuador’s crime rate has increased in recent years. However, most of this is limited to the far northern border with Colombia and the southern city of Guayaquil.

Tourists in popular destinations like the Galapagos Islands, Baños, Cuenca, or even Quito do not need to worry as long as they avoid these risky areas. Personally, I felt very safe the entire time I was in Ecuador.

2. Group Travel Opportunities

First-time solo travelers might feel apprehensive and overwhelmed about traveling completely independently. Planning a solo trip and dealing with all the logistics on your own can be a lot!

Fortunately, Ecuador is a great destination for group travel. In particular, there are tons of tours to the Galapagos Islands, ranging from budget-friendly excursions to luxury cruises. This is an excellent way to see one of Ecuador’s most popular destinations while traveling with a group.

3. Easy To Meet Other Travelers And Locals

Ecuador is a good place for meeting other travelers and locals.

There are lots of backpackers and solo travelers in Ecuador, and staying at a hostel is one of the best ways to meet other travelers. Many hostels in Ecuador have a very social atmosphere with planned activities, tours, and events where you can meet new travel buddies.

I also found the Ecuadorian people to be very friendly and open, so you can meet some local friends too (although you may want to brush up on your Spanish first as English is not widely spoken outside of tourism and hospitality.)

One surprising and underrated benefit to Ecuador is that there’s not a huge cultural barrier, especially for American travelers.

What do I mean by this? Take Japan, for example.

Japan is often listed as one of the best destinations for solo female travelers, and while it’s true that the country is very safe and developed, there’s also a huge cultural barrier that is often not mentioned. It can be disorienting to travel around a country where you can’t even read the language, not to mention many other major differences.

Ecuador, on the other hand, is in the same time zone as the United States. The official currency is the U.S. Dollar. Even little things like electrical outlets are the same as in the United States. And while speaking some Spanish is helpful, you can get by in English.

5. It’s Very Affordable

Finally, Ecuador is an extremely affordable destination, making it ideal for solo travelers who are on a budget.

When traveling alone, you don’t have anyone to split expenses like hotels or taxis with. But Ecuador has a variety of affordable accommodation options, and transportation is very cheap. An Uber in Quito is typically $2-3, while an inter-city bus is under $10.

Food is also very affordable, with great local meals for $3-5.

There are now over 50 countries that have digital nomad visas. Yet, with every visa comes different requirements.

While visas can be a ticket to a new life, they often need a lot of documentation and have income requirements to apply.

Luckily, you don’t have to worry about not meeting the requirements for some of the popular digital nomad visas. Here are three countries where it’s not only easy to apply, but there is no minimum income requirement.

1. Anguilla

Anguilla is a Caribbean island that is a part of the British West Indies.

The island is known for its soft white sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters, and friendly environment.

Anguilla offers a nomad visa that’s good for one calendar year. You must leave once the visa expires, but you have 365 days to enjoy the warm weather and sun.

In addition, the island has fast internet, with an average speed of 100 Mbps.

When looking for a place to stay, the average cost of one bedroom is about $800. As an added perk, you can bring your pet if you prefer a furry companion over a roommate.

Requirements:

You can apply for the visa online and from anywhere in the world. The following documents are required:
- Fill out the online application
- Copy of your employment agreement
- A valid passport that won’t expire in 6 months
- A clean criminal background check
- Copy of your birth certificate

The processing time only takes 7-14 days, and once accepted, you can begin your new life abroad.

2. Curacao

Sister islands to Aruba and Bonaire, Curacao is another island serving as a digital nomad paradise.

Although Curacao is located in the Caribbean, it is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Thus, a mixture of languages is used on the island, including Dutch, English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The multicultural island is great for digital nomads because of the warm and sunny weather, in the mid-70s and 80s Fahrenheit.

The government welcomes digital nomads through the AtHome program.

Requirements:
- Showing proof of working with clients or companies from a foreign country
- A $300 application fee with proof of payment
- Fill out the application online
- Apply for Digital Immigration Card (DI card) within seven days of arrival
Once your application is approved, you will enjoy life on the island where the US dollar is accepted everywhere. You can work comfortably from home with high-speed internet and reliable cell service. And there is free wifi available throughout different cafes and restaurants.

The visa is good for six months, with a possible extension for another six months.

3. Seychelles

If you want to work where you can spend your days off walking along pristine white sand beaches, then Seychelles is your place. Home to the Vallée De Mai National Park and Aldabra Toll, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, this country is a slice of heaven. This country is the smallest country in Africa, and very few know about it.

The best part is that obtaining a visa to live in Seychelles paradise is simple and cost-efficient. The visa, known as the Workation Retreat Program, is available to employed and self-employed people.

Everything you need to obtain this visa can be done online in minutes.

Requirements:
- Proof of income, such as bank statements showing you’re in good standing
- Letter from your employer
To process your application, you will have to pay a fee of only $46. Processing time is not defined, but many sources say that visas are usually processed in a few weeks. The visa is valid for one year, with a chance to renew for six months after your first year.

List of other countries with low or no income requirements

If the above countries aren’t your top choices for places to live, here are some other options.
- Colombia, which has a minimum income requirement of around $700 a month
- Ecuador, which a minimum income requirement of about $1200 a month
- Mexico, where you can stay for six months without a visa
- Canada has no restrictions on staying in the country for the first six months.

Privacy And Hidden Cameras Concerns

Security has been a major concern for Airbnb users. A few months ago, a survey revealed that 58% of guests were concerned about hidden cameras in their Airbnbs, and many travelers have found them in their temporary homes.

Airbnb’s policy states that security cameras are allowed as long as they are disclosed on the listing and cannot be placed in private areas like the bedroom or the bathroom. But how can travelers know if they are being recorded? How much privacy do they really have? What about remote workers who need to protect their company’s information? There are many gray areas, and the topic has aroused debate.

Airbnb has made changes to optimize its services, like updating its platform to show cleaning and other fees in the final price, as many travelers were complaining that the final price was higher than the one featured on the feed. However, prices sometimes are still high and comparable to hotel prices.

Hotels do not make guests clean up before departure, and some travelers are reconnecting to hotel services and describing them as “luxurious” and more relaxing than Airbnb. Now large hotel chains like Marriott are launching new products and services to compete against Airbnb and offer guests the best of both worlds.

There are still great Airbnb listings and many options on the platform, and the company is making major efforts to become digital nomads’ preferred option, but travelers must consider all pros and cons before booking their stay in 2023.
