Top Hotel Chains That Have Fast Internet And Are Perfect For Digital Nomads

Digital nomads need a good internet connection and a comfortable space to work. Since the pandemic, many hotel chains have adopted the “work from hotel” trend and have been making improvements thinking of remote workers.

It’s a win-win situation: hotels get guests to stay for longer and travelers can be happy with their “workation” experience. According to a survey published by HighSpeedInternet.com last year, 84% of Americans consider wifi important for their short and long-term stays and 30% consider a good internet connection “essential”.

For those whose income depends on a high-speed internet connection, just good internet isn’t enough and hotels are popular for having horrible internet connections.

Digital nomads need fast and reliable wifi, and sometimes —even while visiting the best cities for remote work— they don’t have enough time to view the wifi reviews of all the hotels in the area.

This is why we researched, considered recent surveys, and created a list of the most popular hotel chains in the United States —and some worldwide— with fast internet connections for all budgets.

Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express

This American Hotel chain with more than 1,100 active hotels around the world can be a great option for digital nomads because it offers free high-speed wifi for guests. In the United States—where the company has hotels in 552 locations—, the average speed is 42.1Mbps, a great service for video calls, streaming, and downloading large files.

    Hilton Hotels

These hotels have a good reputation among remote workers. The hotel chain offers free wifi in certain areas or for Hilton Honors members and the Internet’s minimum speed is 16.2Mbps. On average, guests have to pay around $14.99 per day for a fast internet connection.

    Ritz-Carlton

For those who prefer luxury and the fastest internet connection, the Ritz-Carlton hotels offer the fastest wifi among popular hotel chains. This company offers guests 76.2 Mbps that can be free for loyalty members or cost from $13 to $17 per day.

    Marriott

Another large luxury brand that offers travelers special experiences across the world at its over 5,500 locations. Digital nomads staying at any of the Marriott Hotel & Resorts can expect an average internet speed of 45.9 Mbps which is free for loyalty members and at certain lobbies. Otherwise, travelers must pay around $15 per day for premium wifi.

    InterContinental

The British multinational hospitality company offers travelers free and fast internet connection. Guests can experience up to 30.7 Mbps at the InterContinental Hotels at no extra cost.

    Rodeway Inn

This economy-priced chain with more than 578 locations in the United States can also be a reliable option for digital nomads. In 2019 this hotel chain earned recognition as the hotel chain with the best free wifi in the US. The average internet speed for guests is 7.66 Mbps and the company also offers premium internet for a slightly faster speed.

    Econo Lodge

This economy hotel chain has been offering decent free wifi for travelers, earning great reviews worldwide. Not all hotels have great connectivity, but on average digital nomads will find a stable Internet connection for free.

    Internet Connection can always vary

Digital nomads learn to live with uncertainty, but these options are usually good and reliable. Of course, there are many factors that can affect the Internet connection such as:

    • The location and the specific hotel: Not all hotel brands can provide the exact same service, and it might vary depending on the country or area.
    • The number of devices connected: It’s also a good idea to consider if the hotel is crowded. Too many people connected to the same network will affect speed, even if it is over 25 Mbps
    • Ethernet vs Wireless: sometimes Internet speed uses Ethernet—the wired option which is usually faster— as a reference and not wifi. If the wifi doesn’t work well, having access to an Ethernet port is always valuable.

A good strategy to guarantee a good internet connection is to request the hotel a speed test and information about occupancy.

Travel App Hopper Launches ‘Leave Hotel For Any Reason Option’

Have you ever booked a hotel with high hopes, only to have them crushed on arrival? Popular travel app, Hopper, announced last week that they have added new products to their service, including a Leave For Any Reason option. The new option allows travelers to cancel their hotel booking for any reason at or after the check-in process. Travelers will then be able to secure a booking with a new hotel with all associated costs paid for by Hopper, provided the new hotel has the same star rating as the original.

    Man in Hotel Room

As the past few years have shown, nothing is certain. The added flexibility of being able to change travel plans has proven to be a valuable option. Hopper has taken notice and has added more services than just the new Leave for Any Reason option. A service previously only available for flight bookings, Cancel for Any Reason, has been added as an option when booking hotel rooms. This offers flexibility, though not as much as the Leave for Any Reason option. Cancel for Any Reason allows travelers to cancel their booking anytime before check-in for a 100% refund.

    Hotel Check In

Hopper has also added a product for rental cars that was previously only available on flights and hotel bookings, Price Freeze for Cars. This option allows travelers to lock in a car rental price for 21 days, giving travelers more time to decide. Hopper will pay up to $100 towards the new rate if the price goes up. Conversely, travelers will be able to pay at a lower rate if the price goes down. As car rental prices continue to climb, this could be an option that more travelers take advantage of this year.

    Car Rental Kiosks

For many travelers, flexibility is king. The new offerings from Hopper fit the bill for those that require more wiggle room in their travel plans. Perhaps the most interesting new option, and certainly the one that offers the most flexibility, is the Leave For Any Reason option. In order for the option to be viable for Hopper, it has to be priced low enough that travelers will purchase it and high enough to cover the costs of the travelers that end up using it. To get an idea of what kind of fees travelers can expect, a sample booking was completed at the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas for July 4th through the 8th.

All selections were made with the flexible traveler in mind, including the option to pay later. Trip insurance, Cancel For Any Reason, and Leave For Any Reason were all selected as options for the booking. With a room rate of $33 per night, the Cancel For Any Reason fee was $60, the Leave For Any Reason fee was an additional $36, and the trip insurance was $16.50.

Hopper Screen Shot Leave For Any Reason

In total, the additional fees for maximum flexibility added $112.50 to the booking. This brought the price of the entire booking to $442.21. This may seem a steep price to pay when expecting a trip to go according to plan, but many travelers are happy to pay the extra cost for peace of mind.

    Happy Family In Hotel Room

With the Leave For Any Reason option, Hopper means it. Reasons as small as wishing the room had a better view and noticing that the room isn’t clean enough were cited by Hopper as acceptable uses of the new option. Time will tell if they stick to this promise, but for now, it seems like a highly flexible cancellation service that truly does cover any reason.

With more and more countries opening up and dropping Covid-era rules, including the United States, travel plans are less likely to be affected by Covid. However, travel disruptions from staffing shortages and increased travel demand are factors that can still affect upcoming travel. Those who are worried about disruptions when making a booking may find that Hopper’s new products are worth the extra cost.

  • Hotel Prices Across Europe Surging To Record Highs

Hotel Prices Across Europe Surging To Record Highs

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

Hotel prices in countries across Europe are surging to record high levels as demand for travel within the continent soars past pre-pandemic numbers.

Studies have revealed that the prices of hotels across the continent are higher than they were before 2020 – further compounding the misery of travelers during a time when it’s also extremely expensive just to purchase flights to Europe in the first place, throwing into doubt the summer travel plans of travelers around the world.

Yet whilst hotels on the continent may be reaching new highs when it comes to cost, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t tactics travelers can employ to save a few dollars on their vacation accommodation. Here’s a look at the study that has shown the spiraling costs of hotels in Europe, plus some practical tips on how travelers can look to save when it comes to finding their dream hotels.

Hotel Prices Hit New Heights – What Travelers Should Know

The study into the prices of hotels across Europe was carried out by STR, a company that provides market data on the hotel industry around the world, tracking almost 70,000 hotels across 180 countries. According to STR, the average daily rates (ADR) for hotels across the continent are now 6% higher on average than they were prior to the pandemic, suggesting hotels are keen to make up for lost business over the last two years.

For some destinations, the ADR is considerably higher than the general average. Hotel rooms in Ireland are currently 21% higher than they were in May 2019 – the highest increase of any of the countries on the continent. Taking second place Portugal, where the ADR is 18% higher than this time last year, whilst Spain is in third place, with the ADR 14% higher than May 2019 – a difference that travelers are certain to notice with their wallets, if not their eyes.

Yet due to the demand for travel being so high at present after years of restrictions and strict entry requirements, it seems travelers are willing to pay such fees. Despite Irish hotels facing the biggest ADR increase, they also boast the third-highest room occupancy levels on the continent, with an impressive 84%. The country with the highest occupancy rate is Poland, with 93%, whilst the UK is in second place with an occupancy rate of 89%.

However, it’s fair to say that not every traveler will be so keen to pay such inflated prices – particularly with the cost of flight tickets also reaching new highs over the past few weeks. Travelers reluctant to pay over the odds for hotel rooms should consider trips to Germany and Austria, where the ADR of hotel rooms are still 6% and 9% lower than the figures recorded in May 2019.

    Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany

Regardless of the destination, there are some sage pieces of advice that travelers can follow to ensure they’re not being fleeced when it comes to finding a place to stay.

After visiting the usual comparison sites and finding a place to stay, don’t be afraid to send an email or reach out to the hotel on social media and ask them if they can beat the price, or match it with some extras thrown in. Hotels will be keen to take bookings directly after missing out for so long due to the pandemic, and besides – who doesn’t love free WiFi or a complimentary breakfast?

Also keep in mind that the search doesn’t need to end with booking the room; if your reservation has a free cancelation policy, keep an eye out for the same dates as the trip gets closer and exercise the free cancelation right if you find it cheaper. Many hotels still offer good, no-fee cancelation policies that were brought in during the pandemic. Finding bargains is about being proactive and staying vigilant, even if your F5 key ends up being worn out as a result.

If the usual tips such as last-minute bookings, promotion hunting, and being ultra-flexible are driving you up the wall, why not avoid hotels altogether? For active travelers who see their rooms as merely a place to sleep, a hostel may be a better choice. Not a fan of hotel breakfasts? Book a micro AirBnB by a cute pâtisserie and head there instead. Travel has changed significantly in 2022, so don’t be afraid to change your habits too.
