According to the Curacao Chronicle, the strongest feeder cities for tourists from the U.S. to the island destination are for passengers from Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, New York JFK, Washington-National, Atlanta, Boston, and Orlando.

Because it’s so easy and convenient to reach Curacao by nonstop airline, it is possible to visit the island for a long weekend if you’re short on time, though you will need much longer to explore everything this incredible destination has to offer.

Safe And Secure

Curacao’s strong political and economic stability makes it one of the safest islands in the Caribbean.

This means that it is a great spot for female travelers and solo travelers to explore without fear.

Most crime rates in Curacao are very low, and aside from taking the usual safety precautions there are big concerns for travelers and tourists to worry about on the island.

The U.S. Department of State has given Curacao a level 1 travel advisory rating which is the lowest and safest rating that can be awarded. A Level 1 travel advisory means that travelers should exercise normal precautions, while a Level 2 advisory means U.S. citizens should not travel to a destination.

By contrast, Jamaica, which is a much more popular destination with American travelers, has a Level 3: Reconsider Travel rating. U.S. travelers are advised to reconsider travel to Jamaica due to crime levels in the island nation.

If there’s one thing Iceland is more famous for than its glaciers, volcanoes, and beautiful scenery, it’s for being a very safe country.

Crime rates are extremely low here, and in all honesty, the main safety considerations you need to be aware of have to do with Mother Nature and not human beings.

Cheap To Fly To

There’s no escaping that Iceland is quite an expensive country to visit; however, you can save a lot on the flight if you shop around.

We recently revealed that the capital Reykjavik is one of the cheapest European destinations you can fly to from the U.S. this spring – from as little as $140 one-way.

Iceland has also just renovated and expanded a new airport in the north of the country called Akureyri International.

While you cannot fly here directly from the U.S., you can from some European cities such as London, and it also allows you to fly internally from Reykjavik – a sometimes cheaper and quicker alternative than a road trip across the country.

Volcanoes Not Stopping Travel

There has been a well-documented increase in volcanic activity in Iceland over the past few months, with an eruption near the southwestern town of Grindavik causing evacuations.

This activity was declared to have been completed by the Icelandic Met Office on February 8 this year.

Because Iceland is so used to volcanic activity, it has a very sophisticated monitoring and warning system, so you can be reassured that unless it’s an unprecedented eruption like Eyjafjallajökull in 2010, which grounded 100,000 flights, you should be fine to visit.

This historic city built by the riches of an oil boom has seen decades of growth yet is somehow not typically seen as a top getaway in the U.S.

We at Travel Off Path disagree. So much so, we awarded Dallas as a top 10 destination for 2024. Not only within the U.S., but the world!

Here are 5 reasons why you should visit this Texas city in 2024:

A Foodie Heaven

Ironically, one of the biggest cities in the Bible Belt is a foodie heaven. Dallas is home to just about any type of grub imaginable.

Not often seen as a cultural city, Dallas is full of surprises when it comes to the variety of cuisine you can find across its vast city limits.

Of course, what first comes to mind is jam-packed plates of barbecue. There are so many BBQ joints, locals each have their favorite.

Behind barbecue, Mexican food is another common household argument starter. Although, many would agree the “Mexican food” should be classified as “Tex-Mex”.

There are trendy restaurants of many international cuisines all over, but the ultimate foodie experience each year is the famous Texas State Fair held right here in Dallas.

Dallas even takes a page out of Austin’s book with new food trucks and food halls popping up left and right.

New Developments

Just like your gut after indulging in all of Dallas’s food, the city is expanding outward. One of the trendiest places outside Dallas proper is the booming city of Frisco, which is just 30 minutes from downtown Dallas.

This small town turned trendy city has seen crazy amounts of growth over the years. For tourists, it is a shop-til-you-drop stop on your Dallas getaway.

Home to the 1.6 million square foot Stonebriar Centre, this place gives the Mall of America a run for its money.

Along with shopping, there are, of course, seemingly endless restaurants and bars to choose from, such as the charming Rail District.

Frisco is on a nonstop mission to make a name for itself with continued projects in the coming years, including a new Universal Studios in the works.

Cool Neighborhoods

Dallas isn’t just big trucks and country music; there are some hip neighborhoods going against the grain of what Dallas is known to be.

The Bishop Arts District, a short drive from downtown Dallas, is thriving with vibrant local shops, bars and restaurants.

Another cool neighborhood a stone’s throw from downtown is Deep Ellum. This quirky area is home to everything from tattoo shops to bars to giant robot statues for no apparent reason.

Just north of Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville is a row of walkable shops and eateries and long famous for the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party.

Wide Selection Of Arts

Downtown has seen somewhat of a revitalization over the years as many visitors would find themselves in uptown over downtown.

When you fly into Dallas, you will arrive at the Dallas/ Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Just 30 minutes away, Fort Worth is a worthy destination in its own right.

While locals complain of traffic driving between the two cities, Fort Worth had no problem bringing in enough visitors to break all time tourism records.

Hawaiian Airlines is adding new non-stop flights from May this year, including Salt Lake City to Honolulu, Sacramento to Lihue, and Sacramento to Kona.

These new flights are on top of a major expansion of existing routes, including new weekly flights being added from both Austin and Boston and an expansion of the daily services from Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Consistently Good Winter Weather

The climate is Hawaii is pretty consistent throughout the year, which makes it an ideal winter sun destination.

Between November and April, temperatures usually sit in the high 70s, getting a little cooler at night.

The Hawaiian winter is generally the rainier of the two seasons here. However, showers are normally short-lived and localized due to the strong prevailing winds in the Pacific Ocean.

Events Calendar Never Sleeps

Winter is definitely not the off-season when it comes to events in Hawaii – right through January and February, there is plenty going on.

You can get an early taste of spring at the Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival on Hawaii Island on 3 February, while arts and craft fans can get their fix during the Kauai Quilt Show from 9-21 February.

The horrendous wildfires on the island of Maui caused devastation in August last year, but the recovery is now underway, and tourists are being welcomed back.

Popularity Surging Against The Odds

Those aforementioned wildfires were probably the only reason Hawaii didn’t break its tourism record in 2023.

The latest visitor number figures for 2023 were up around 5% on 2022 and only around 6% down on the figure from 2019.

Without the brief pause in tourism to Maui in late summer last year, this record surely would have been broken, which just goes to show the pulling power of Hawaii as a travel destination.

Underrated Pristine Beaches

While Siesta Key is an awesome place to visit, there are plenty of stunning lesser-known beaches in the vicinity that are well worth a beach day, too.

Southwest of Cape Coral is a set of island beaches packed with white sand and blue waters – Sanibel and Captiva.

Going further south to Naples is Residents Beach, where recent beachgoers raving it’s “heaven on Earth”.

The caveat is that membership is required, but booking a Marco Island Airbnb is a proven loophole to gain access.

Looking at a map of Southwest Florida, you may be surprised the first thing you notice isn’t the vast blue ocean but all the green surrounding the main cities.

It’s easy to become star-struck with the many different international destinations that are predicted to be trending in 2024.

Far-flung destinations like Tokyo or Dubai may be the ones of a lot of people’s lips right now, but there are destinations closer to home that have travelers talking.

One such location is California’s Napa Valley – a region that has been gaining international acclaim over the past year.

Known for its excellence as a distinguished wine region, Napa Valley has plenty more to offer besides tasting sessions, which is perhaps why it looks set to be a trending destination in the United States for 2024.

It’s Getting International Recognition

It really does seem like Napa Valley is catching on in a big way on the international scale.

The region was recently named the number one trending destination in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards, as well as being included in Travel and Leisure’s prestigious Best Places To Travel in 2024 list.

And last year, the Napa town of Sonoma was named as a top trending destinations in the U.S. too – it’s hard to ignore when a place is consistently so highly regarded.

Award-Winning Venues

Napa Valley is one of only 12 wine regions in the world to be part of the Great Wine Capitals program – and the only one in North America.

Recently, it was bestowed with several major honors as part of the Great Wine Capitals 2024 Best of Wine Tourism awards.

Seven different Napa venues picked up awards across seven different categories including Four Seasons Resort & Residencies (Accommodations), Trefethen Family Vineyards (Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences), and Oakville Grocery & Wine Merchant (Wine Tourism Restaurants).

You Can Visit Year-Round

Naturally, the summer is a great time to visit Napa, with temperatures regularly hitting the low 80s from June to September.

Fall is also one of the most popular times as its harvest season for many grapes, so you may be able to witness first-hand one of the key stages of winemaking.

But even winter is not such a bad time to head on down to Napa – while it can be a little rainier than usual, temperatures usually hit the high 50s, and when it is sunny, it feels pleasantly warm compared to many places in the country.

Huge Choice Of Flights

Napa Valley is incredibly well serviced by several major airports, including San Francisco International, Oakland International, Sacramento International, and Sonoma County Airport.

All these airports are within a two-hour drive of the region, and the sheer volume of choice means you can nearly always find a cheap flight.

Hiring a car is one way to get there from these airports, alternatively from San Francisco you can catch a ferry to Vallejo and then use a transit bus from there known as the Vine.

More Than Just Wineries

While the Napa Valley region may be home to more than 400 different wineries, a nice glass of your preferred tipple is not the only reason to consider visiting this region.

There are some world-class golf courses in the area such as Silverado and Mount Saint Helena Golf Club, as well as the opportunity to absorb some of the fascinating history at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville – it’s just $5 to go in.

Hangover Cures As Standard

Napa Valley is actually a great area for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as wine lovers.

The beautiful hills surrounding the valley are ideal for taking a cycling tour, which could help you sweat out your hangover if you overindulged a little on Napa’s finest produce.

You could even ease your weary head by taking a peaceful hot air balloon ride over the gold and green vistas – it’s perfect at sunset or sunrise.

The Event Scene Is Popping

There are many annual events held in the Napa Valley region that are growing in popularity with each passing year.

Naturally, many of them center around food and drink, such as the Napa Truffle Festival in January, or Calistoga’s Harvest Table in September.

There are also plenty of events for the more active including the Napa Valley Marathon in March, or for music lovers with several major festivals such as Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, Blue Note Jazz Festival, or Napa Porchfest.

Proving once again it is a tour de force in tourism, Spain has welcomed a whopping 79.8 million visitors throughout 2023, just short of reaching the all-time high figures it posted in 2019, making it the second most visited country worldwide.

Though it is yet to break the record it set four years ago, it is on a clear path towards full recovery, with crowds of tourists seen gathering before Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia for selfies, and beachgoers heading to Costa del Sol en masse for their sunny getaways after three years.

Spain is back to being the second most visited country worldwide, behind only France, and these are five of the main reasons why:

It Is One Of A Handful Of European Nations To Offer This Unique Combination

Europe is an incredibly diverse continent offering both nature and culture-based activities. While countries like Italy and France are highly sought-after for their ancient heritage, Norway and Switzerland have breathtaking natural sceneries for top attractions.

That’s not to say these elements are mutually exclusive, but few European countries excel at combining them the way Spain does: it is the birthplace of renowned artists like Picasso and Dali, it is where bullfighting and flamenco originated, and it lays claim to some of Europe’s top landmarks.

At the same time, the Iberian gem boasts a natural wealth like no other country in its vicinity, with coastlines on both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, a hinterland that is traversed by glorious mountains, and lush-green forests brimming with wildlife.

On the nature side, the Pyrenees range offers some of the best skiing in all of Europe, the Canaries archiepelago remain warm year-round, and island-hopping around the subtropical Balearic Islands, which include Ibiza and Mallorca, is possible as early as February.

When it comes to culture, in strolling the busy streets of Madrid, you should expect to find world-class museums housing awe-inspiring art and ornate buildings; in Barcelona, the narrow, winding streets of the Gothic Quarter are preserved examples of medieval city-building.

In Seville, Moorish influence is everywhere to be seen, owing to centuries of North African control, and the traditional Basque towns in Northern Spain are cultural manifestations of Europe’s oldest and most mysterious ethnic nation.

The Food Is Just Out Of This World.

Still somewhat in the topic of culture, it’s probably worth mentioning that Spanish cuisine plays a huge part in promoting the country on an international stage, especially when it places ninth for best cuisines in the world, as ranked by Taste Atlas.

The Kingdom of Spain is comprised of 17 autonomous regions, well distinguished for their own cooking practices, and depending on which part of the country you’re in, you are likely to sample completely different, unique dishes that are characteristic of that specific destination.

Ready To Go Off Path?

Speaking of Galicia, it is partly responsible for Spain’s Tourism Reinassance, largely thanks to its off-path appeal and uncrowded spots yet to be ruined by beach bums and the Instagram hordes.

If you’ve been following travel trends lately, you should know by now that lesser-known destinations are witnessing a boom in bookings, and as widely popular as Spain may be, there are still some key spots flying under the radar.

One of those hidden gems, the quaint cobbled city of Pontevedra, jam-packed with historical buildings, inhabited since the Roman times, and a short drive from the sandy Galician coast, is one of the most searched destinations on Google right now.

Galicia as a whole is undergoing a popularity surge, with Santiago de Compostela, the regional capital, gaining traction due to its magnificent cathedral, the last stop on the Way of Saint James pilgrimage route, and its status as a UNESCO World Heritage city.

Elsewhere in Spain, the lesser-known Canaries are becoming more popular with American tourists since nonstop flights to Tenerife were introduced back in 2021, bringing Americans closer to Spain’s forever-springtime, paradisaical islands.

Even the Andalusian hinterland, often skipped by visitors heading straight for Madrid or Barcelona, Spain’s top two tourist destinations, is now seeing a record increase in visitor numbers, being predicted to welcome over 33 million guests in 2024.

Andalusia is the land of whitewashed mountainside villages, Moorish palaces, and flamenco art.

Did You Know The Warmest Region In Europe Is In Southern Spain?

Andalusia’s importance for the Spanish tourism sector cannot be so easily overlooked. Since summer ended, it has been instrumental in keeping arrival figures high, and the explanation is rather simple.

It is the hottest region of Europe, being geographically the closest territory to North Africa and bearing the brunt of the heatwaves coming from across the azure Mediterranean. Believe it or not, Andalusia is best experienced in the off-season.

Summers and the fall are scorchingly hot, with temperatures easily hitting 122°F and higher in larger urban centers, particularly the open furnace that is Seville, and unless the prospect of sunburns and the dry heat doesn’t faze you, we would strongly recommend visiting in spring, or even winter instead.

Right now in Malaga, the gateway to Andalusia’s Sunny Coast and an ancient port littered with Roman and Moorish ruins, it’s still a pleasant 73.4°F, perfect for some sightseeing.

The beach zones in Marbella and Estepona are also perfectly warm irrespective of season, and though the Mediterranean may be colder this time of year, we would choose leisurely strolls down crowd-free, palm-lined boardwalks, sipping on tinto de verano and admiring the coastal over the chaos of the peak season any day.

Spain Is A Bargain Of A Holiday

Finally, Spain is not as expensive as you may think.

Granted, it is no Balkans or Eastern Europe, but prices across much of the country, excluding ultra-popular cities, are considerably cheaper than France’s or Italy’s and certainly more affordable than the U.S. average.

Tourists spend on average $43 on meals every day and $134 on hotels, while the total cost of a one-week trip to Spain for two people is an acceptable $2,300 (excluding flights).

Traveling on a budget – i.e., staying in hostels or low-priced guesthouses and avoiding expensive eateries – costs are reduced even further, capping at $64 per day, including accommodation and all daily expenses.

This winter, you can book the centrally-located Chinitas Urban Hostel in sunny Malaga, famous for its rooftop bar with privileged views of Malaga Cathedral, for only $26 per night or an overnight in a private room in a local guesthouse for a reasonable $35.

Also in Atlanta, the fascinating National Center for Civil and Human Rights museum will begin a major expansion to celebrate a decade since its opening.

There will also be some major new family-friendly attractions including the renovated and rebranded Margaritaville Fins Up Water Park in Buford, and the opening of the Georgia Safari Conservation Park in April.

The safari park will feature luxury accommodation including suites that overlook some of the exotic animals that live there.

Hotel Choice Keeps Growing

Georgia is a varied state and due to growing interest from all different kinds of travelers, a lot of money has been spent on creating new hotels and redeveloping existing ones.

In Atlanta, a new Signia by Hilton Atlanta hotel is set to open in January with no fewer than 967 guest rooms.

Also set to open in January is the boutique Trillith Guesthouse in Fayetteville, home to the famous tv and movie studio Trillith Studios.

February will see the opening of Cloudland at McLemore Resort Lookout Mountain, which will offer a wellness spa, mountaintop golf course, and unbeatable views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and McLemore Cove.

And for those who love being near the coast in Georgia, Hotel Bardo Savannah will open in the city’s historic Forsyth Park Mansion in February.

A Quieter Winter Destination

If you’ve read all this and you’re thinking that you simply cannot wait until spring or summer to visit Georgia, then you’re in luck because the state is an enjoyable winter destination that is very underrated.

Whether you want to hunker down in a cabin in a mountainous wilderness or enjoy the beautiful barrier islands along the coastline, winter is a great time to visit with lower prices and fewer crowds.

While not as warm as southern neighbor Florida, Georgia offers temperatures ranging from 50F to 60F during its winter, which is usually shorter and milder than most other states.
