CEO World ranked the best countries for expats and digital nomads based on several factors including their affordability and the quality of life they offer.

8. Mexico

Mexico is a popular hub for digital nomads, particularly those from the nearby U.S.

Digital nomads are attracted to Mexico thanks to its affordable living costs, excellent food scene, and great nightlife.

The Mexican people are generally friendly and welcoming to foreigners, which means Mexico is a great spot for digital nomads who want to meet new people while they explore new cultures.

Although Mexico does not have a special digital nomad visa, you can legally work in Mexico with a temporary or permanent resident visa.

That makes it an incredibly easy country to live in as a digital nomad.

7. Hungary

One of the main reasons that Hungary is so popular with digital nomads is because of its affordability.

You can live in a beautiful and bustling city such as Budapest, Debrecen, Pecs, and Sopron without breaking your budget.

Budapest is a popular hub for digital nomads and is home to an active nomad scene, a host of cozy cafes to work from, and one of the best public transport networks in Europe.

It’s worth noting that if you stay in Hungary for more than 183 days as a digital nomad, then you’re obliged to pay tax in the country, so you might want to consider moving on before 6 months pass so that you can avoid the tax man.

6. Turkey

Turkey is a beautiful and diverse country where you can work in the heart of a bustling city or choose to set up your laptop in a quiet village by the sea.

Istanbul is home to the highest concentration of digital nomads who are attracted by its excellent infrastructure, decent internet speed, and rich culture.

Turkey doesn’t have a specific digital nomad visa scheme in place right now but tourists can stay in the country for 90 days without a visa.

Turkey boasts 19 UNESCO World Heritage Sites so when you’re not working you’ll find plenty to see and do.

5. United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates may not be the cheapest destination for digital nomads on this list but it does have an excellent infrastructure in place that makes working in the country as a digital nomad easy.

You’ll find an abundance of coworking spaces, fast internet speeds, and a host of coffee shops aimed at digital nomads that make meeting and networking with other digital nomads a breeze.

The UAE recognizes and values digital nomads, and it is a modern, exciting place to live.

4. Italy

Italy is one of the most popular countries in Europe for American travelers, and it attracts digital nomads looking for adventure. Italy is famous for its incredible architecture, rich history, and diverse landscapes.

Rome, Milan, Turin, and Florence are all popular and sought-after Italian destinations for digital nomads. You can eat delicious Italian food, enjoy the stunning scenery, and work at the same time.

With so many amazing cities in the world to explore, it can be hard for travelers to narrow down their options. The way to find out the best (and worst) parts of a destination is often to ask the locals themselves.

Time Out recently rounded up thousands of locals and travelers to find the top 50 cities in the world.

This survey highlights what each city does best and ranks them according to quality and popularity.

Some cities are known for being cultural capitals and historic hubs, while others are famous for their friendliness, lively nightlife, or overall livability score.

Here are seven of the top cities to visit around the world. Take a look and decide which one is right for your next city break.

1. New York: Most Popular

New York City is the “city that never sleeps.” Liza Minelli and Frank Sinatra sang that iconic line almost 40 years ago and it’s still true today. You can always find something to do at any time of the day or night in this vibrant city.

New York is full of bright lights, top-notch entertainment, delicious food, and many historical sites and monuments. Besides iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and Central Park, New York City is also home to Edgar Allen Poe’s cottage, a National Jazz Museum, and Trinity Church.

From Broadway musicals to world-renowned clubs, art galleries, museums, and diverse community events, there’s simply always a party going on.

When asked where they would most want to move to in Time Out’s survey, the greatest percentage of responders voted for New York City.

2. Cape Town: Best Culture Scene

For those looking for a cultural escape, Cape Town is worth putting on the itinerary. This diverse South African city has influences from Dutch, English, French, Afrikaner, Malay, and Xhosa. Its cultural scene currently ranks highest in the world.

A stroll through the colorful Bo Kaap neighborhood and poignant District Six Museum can give you insight into the rich history of Africa’s “Mother City.” Also, every February, Cape Town hosts the Investec Cape Town Art Fair which draws in artists from all over the world.

Cape Town’s natural beauty is also worth exploring. You can take a safari to see wildlife, ride a cable car to Table Mountain for a panoramic view, or enjoy the sunshine on the coast. In January, Cape Town is at the peak of its hottest summer days. So, right now is a perfect time to soak up the sun!

One hundred percent of the locals in Time Out’s survey agree that Cape Town is breathtakingly beautiful and a happy place to be.

3. Berlin: Vibrant Nightlife

Berlin got high marks for being the life of the party when the sun goes down. Over 80 percent of survey responders approved of the nightlife scene in Berlin. The locals may not be as warm or effusive as other cultures. Still, it seems that Berliners know how to have a good time.

This city is full of trendy European pubs, dance halls, and karaoke bars. Although Berlin has a population of over 3.5 million residents, the city is still pedestrian-friendly. You can explore the city sights on foot, or rent a bike to cover more ground.

Berlin also has a strong cultural draw with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Museum Island and the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. This city has plenty to do day or night.

4. London: Best City in the World

London is a diverse city that draws in internationals from all around the world and connects them. This capital has ranked so many times as “the best city in the world” that we feel like we just have to believe it.

London has so many iconic symbols including Big Ben, the London Eye, Madame Tussauds, the Tower Bridge, double-decker buses, and more.

You can also enjoy the free art galleries, traditional pubs, and luscious green parks. The once-stale nightlife is also seeing recent improvements.

The birthplace of Queen Elizabeth (and Harry Potter) is rated by over 90% of residents as a beautiful, happy place. Even if you get caught in the frequent bad weather, there’s no cozier place to while away a rainy day than a London pub.

5. Madrid: A Foodie Favorite

Madrid lives up to its warm, Latin culture and is a friendly city that welcomes its guests. You may need a few days to take in all this capital city has to offer, though. Its museums include famous pieces by Goya, Velazquez, Picasso, and Dali while its beautiful manicured parks are perfect for relaxing.

Madrid is also a great stop for foodies with an incredible number of restaurants with world-renowned chefs. The food scene is known as one of the best in all of Spain and gets a 94% approval rating from the locals.

If you visit Madrid this year, you may even catch a show from an international sensation such as Taylor Swift, Luis Miguel, or Bruce Springsteen.

6. Mexico City: Best Livability Score

Mexico City stays up to date when it comes to art and culture with a plethora of museums, international exhibits, and several outdoor festivals throughout the year.

This March, Mexico City will host its 30th annual Festival del Centro Histórico which showcases its rich cultural heritage.

The Palace of Fine Arts and the Frida Kahlo Museum are also must-see stops for art lovers. Locals whisper that you can get into many of Mexico City’s museums for free on Sundays.

Mexico City has a great vibe to it, with most of its locals rating it as beautiful, friendly, and happy.

7. Liverpool: Affordable Art and Culture

Liverpool was where the popular rock group Beatles formed, and it is still known for its arts and music. The vibrant city hosted Eurovision just last year and is known for holding some of the largest art fairs in the region.

According to Time Out’s survey, Liverpool is the cheapest out of 50 major cities for art and cultural experiences. In fact, many of its museums and galleries are free to enter!

In Liverpool, the people are friendly, the nightlife is bustling, and the cost of housing is lower than many other cities in the UK. This destination is perfect for a city break.

While exploring new places is always exciting, there’s usually a reason why certain countries remain popular with American travelers.

Whether it’s down to the ease of travel, the language, the sights, or the culture, there will always be some favorites that stand out.

The latest favorites of American travelers have been revealed by the experts at Visited Travel App as part of their annual travel report.

They produced a list of the top 10 countries that were most visited by Americans in 2023, according to data from their users.

While the results may not be totally surprising, they are definitely inspiring. Time to start planning some 2024 travel!

Mexico

No surprises here – Mexico has been the premier travel destination for Americans for a long time now.

The beach destinations are unrivaled in Mexico – whether you want to sun yourself on the Riviera Maya, catch waves on the Pacific Coast in Oaxaca State, or sample a slower pace of life Mazatlán.

Then there are the cities – with Mexico City leading the charge as one of those places you simply must visit once in your life, especially as a solo traveler.

There’s always chatter about safety in Mexico, and naturally there are some places you should avoid, but with usual travel precautions many of the popular locations across the country are safe to visit.

There are plenty of reasons to visit in 2024, not least because the Tren Maya is now operational, making traveling around the super-popular Yucatan Peninsula easier and cheaper – allowing us to see some lesser-known hidden gems.

Canada

With captivating cities like Toronto and Vancouver and some of the most stunning scenery on the planet in between, it’s easy to see why Canada attracts travelers in droves.

While there are plenty of flights available to the neighbor in the north, another great benefit for those that live in the north of the United States is that you can easily drive across the border – giving you the benefit of having your own car when exploring the vast wilderness.

One other great reason to consider visiting Canada next year is that its tourism visitor numbers have not fully recovered yet after the pandemic, meaning the most popular places will still be a bit less crowded than usual.

France

A serial winner of the world’s top tourism destination title, France has an endearing appeal that American travelers just can’t seem to get enough of.

Paris alone is a good enough reason to visit this European country thanks to its beautiful architecture, unrivaled art scene, and oh-so-chic café culture.

Despite that, you may want to avoid visiting in the summer this year as prices will be inflated due to the city hosting the Olympic Games.

Away from Paris, France has many other destinations worth your time and effort – from the lush Loire Valley littered with beautiful chateaux to the sparkling seas and luxury hideaways along the iconic Cote d’Azur.

And with new flights to France being added all the time, there really is no excuse for you not to go and see what all the fuss is about.

United Kingdom

A weekend in London is pretty hard to beat.

This super diverse and constantly changing city is not only home to some of the world’s most famous landmarks but also a place where you can find trendy neighborhoods off the beaten path.

You could spend a few days in London and never go to the same places twice, with more still left to explore. It’s no wonder that Americans love visiting it so much.

But there’s much more to the U.K. than just London, though – the country is full of diverse cities and gorgeous countryside that is all easy to access due to its relatively small size.

Italy

Italy is another country that American travelers will always be fascinated with.

Its varied destinations such as Rome, the Amalfi Coast, and Venice are always great places to explore, even in the winter.

Italy benefits from a very efficient and affordable train network – it’s one of the best ways to get around and see as much of this diverse and historic place as possible.

However, my personal recommendation to check out in Italy is the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.

This gem has some of the best beaches in the country, as well as pretty and historic towns, impressive canyons and valleys, and culture that is unique and separate from the mainstream of Italy.

Before you book your next vacation, be sure to follow these travel tips to save money!

A new report from the travel booking platform Hopper reveals some of the best ways to save money on your upcoming travels.

And right now is a great time to book your next trip, with airfare to popular destinations like Mexico and Central America down nearly 10% compared to 2023.

Here are the top five ways to save money on travel right now.

1. Fly On Cheaper Days

There’s a common travel hack that it’s cheaper to book flights on a Tuesday… but that’s not actually the case! It doesn’t matter what day you book your flight, but what day you travel on is actually of importance.

And it’s true that weekday flights are cheaper!

According to Hopper, flying on a weekday is less expensive than flying on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. You can save as much as 15% on airfare by choosing a weekday departure!

For most destinations, the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

If you can make it work with your schedule, departing on one of these days can save you a significant amount of money on airfare.

2. Travel During Cheaper Months

Just like there are cheaper days to travel, there are also cheaper months to travel. Airfare, hotels, rental cars, and more are typically less expensive if you travel during off-peak months.

The cheapest months to visit many popular destinations are January, February, September, and October.

Traveling to Mexico, the Caribbean, or warm U.S. destinations during January and February is a great way to avoid elevated spring break prices (and crowds.)

Similarly, you can avoid the peak summer prices and crowds in many popular European destinations like France, Italy, and Greece by traveling during September and October instead.

3. Avoid Weekend Premiums

As we mentioned above, flying over the weekend is more expensive… and so are weekend hotel stays!

In fact, most places charge a “weekend premium” for hotels on Friday and Saturday nights.

Prices are 20% to 23% higher on these nights compared to weeknights.

Visitors to Las Vegas will pay a whopping 96% premium on weekend stays, and it’s similarly high at 76% for Chicago and 60% for Miami. It’s the same story when you travel abroad: weekend stays in London carry a 25% premium, and it’s 22% for Paris.

If you can make a mid-week stay work, you’re likely to save a ton of money on hotel costs.

4. Book At The Right Time

According to Hopper, you should start monitoring prices for domestic flights 3-4 months in advance. The best booking window is 1-2 months in advance, but don’t wait too long — prices can skyrocket 3 weeks before your departure date!

For international flights, you might want to start monitoring airfare even sooner (around 7-8 months in advance.) For flights to Asia to Oceania, the prime booking window is 5-7 months in advance, while you can 3-6 months ahead of time for all other regions.

You can use a tool like Hopper’s Price Watch or Google Flights alerts to monitor specific dates and routes for changes in airfare.

5. Consider Destination Dupes

Destination dupes are one of the biggest travel trends for 2024.

As the name suggests, these dupes are comparable (and usually significantly less expensive) alternatives to popular but pricy destinations.

Based on Hopper’s data, Portugal is a great dupe for many European destinations, with airfare that is typically hundreds of dollars cheaper than flights to London, Paris, or Barcelona.

Additionally, travelers should consider Caribbean destinations like Puerto Rico or the Bahamas instead of pricier destinations like Turks and Caicos or St. Lucia.

This Is The Safest Beach Destination In Mexico According To New Report

Mexico may be every American’s favorite sunny destination, thanks to its year-round warm weather, vibrant and inviting culture, and tropical atmosphere, but there’s no denying that, in spite of its surging popularity, safety remains a primary concern for visitors.

Be it the mainstream media’s misinformation campaigns or travel advisories that fail to accurately depict risks on the ground, many U.S. visitors have developed an irrational fear about vacationing South of the border.

We can’t exactly blame them when every violent event that takes place in Mexico, however sporadic and far from the usual touristy spots, makes it to the front page in the United States, even when security is tight and risks for foreigners remain minimal.

One such example is Puerto Vallarta, a coastal city in Jalisco, a state in Mexico many would consider dangerous due to gang activity, but one that has, in fact, been named the safest beach destination in the entire country:

Is Puerto Vallarta Actually A Lot Safer Than It Gets Credit For?

Puerto Vallarta is one of the most popular beach zones in Mexico, famous for its highly-developed resort strip, Pacific beaches, and LGBT-friendly Romantic Zone, a picturesque, cobbled, historic district where colonial tradition and bohemia go hand in hand.

Americans love it for the laid-back coastal vibes, the great local food, and of course, the long miles of sand separating PV from the azure ocean, but there has always been one big downside for overcautious tourists: its state considered a Level 3 destination by American authorities.

In simple terms, U.S. authorities urge Americans to ‘reconsider travel’ to Jalisco as they may expose themselves to higher levels of crime and even risk kidnapping.

Still, PV remains Mexico’s third most-booked sunny vacation after Cancun and Los Cabos, and we find it hard to believe that would still be the case should crime be as rampant as it is made out to be.

Now, we have confirmed our suspicion Puerto Vallarta and its surrounding beach zone is safer than it gets credit for.

Over 80% Of Residents Find PV Safe To Live In

Based on new data collected by ENSU, Mexico’s National Urban Public Security Survey is one of the most reliable parameters for assessing safety levels that there are. The vast majority of PV residents aged 18 and over consider it a safe city to live in.

More specifically, only 19.4 percent of residents perceive it as unsafe, against 80.6 percent who have reported feeling safe residing locally.

It is worth noting that researchers have evaluated safety perceptions for local residents, not tourists.

Still, the fact that the pata-salada (how the Vallarta-born are called) are adamant their city is safe – and they are typically living in suburban zones themselves, not holed up in heavily-guarded five-star resorts – should only serve as proof gringos should be even less concerned.

Additionally, Puerto Vallarta is the safest beach destination in Mexico, charting higher than every other coastal hub on ENSU’s ranking, including the aforementioned Cancun and Los Cabos.

By extenstion, it is the second safest municipality in all of Mexico.

It places behind only Benito Juarez, which has a negative safety perception rate of only 15.2 percent, but interestingly enough, it charts higher than Merida, in Yucatan, and San Francisco de Campeche, in Campeche, often considered Mexico’s safest state capital.

Both of these cities were added to the U.S. State Department’s Level 1 listing, meaning Americans can exercise normal precautions when visiting.

Despite PV’s excellent results in ENSU’s latest assessment, it still retains its Level 3 status, so what isn’t adding up?

Travel Advisories Are Just That: Advisory

The State Department is known for being exceedingly conservative when it comes to assessing safety risks for different destinations.

In the case of Mexico, in particular, each state is awarded its own classification as opposed to the whole country: no other destination worldwide has its states, provinces, or other forms of domestic administrative division evaluated differently for the purposes of risk assessment.

As every state in Mexico is analyzed individually, this can lead to more scrutiny and, in some cases, a hyperfocus on negative events affecting them.

The state of Quintana Roo, home to Cancun and Tulum, infamously had a travel alert for crime and kidnappings in 2022, even though one single kidnapping case was reported throughout that entire year.

It took months and a series of remarks by the Mexican President until the kidnapping warning was removed, bringing into question the timeliness of these advisories.

That’s not to say Jalisco’s inclusion in the Level 3 listing is unwarranted, as American authorities may have access to sensitive information the general public is not aware of, but it’s only natural that new questions are put forth when different, equally reliable sources present a different viewpoint.

In sum, being somewhat cautious when visiting Mexico as a whole can do no harm.

While it’s unlikely you will be affected by petty or violent crime vacationing in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, especially when the state of Jalisco has deployed more police to protect tourists last year, avoid displaying unnecessary signs of wealth, walking alone in poorly-lit areas after dark, and steer clear of far-out, dodgy neighborhoods.

5. Nuevo Nayarit

Looking for a relaxed but vibrant beach destination? Nuevo Nayarit boasts a five-kilometer (three-mile) shoreline and beautiful golden sand beaches.

People often compare Nuevo Nayarit to Puerto Vallarta as they are both located on Mexico’s Pacific coast but they both have very different vibes. Riviera Nayarit is more relaxed, and its resorts tend to be more luxurious.

Why do we travel? That’s a big question.

There’s a whole manner of different motivations, but surely one of the simplest and most important reasons is simply to have fun.

Of course, fun is something that’s hard to define and something that everyone has a different concept of, which is why Wallet Hub has surveyed 180 different U.S. cities on no fewer than 65 different metrics to find out which are generally the most fun to spend time in.

The metrics included everything from the number of attractions to the average price of food and drink.

It even focused on how many movie theatres, beer gardens, music venues, or coffee shops there are per capita – really making sure to capture as many different things as possible that can be considered fun.

At the end of it all, these 8 cities came out as the most fun to visit in all of America:

1. Las Vegas, Nevada

It probably shouldn’t be a surprise that Vegas came out on top in a ranking of how fun places are, should it?

‘Sin City’ is well-known for being an adult playground thanks to its famous casinos and infamous nightlife.

It was the top-ranking city in this study in terms of overall entertainment and recreation rank, and nightlife and parties rank – it also scored well in terms of the number of restaurants and festivals it has per capita.

Despite its adult entertainment reputation, there are still some family-friendly attractions in Vegas, such as Hershey’s Chocolate World, the Shark Reef Aquarium, and many theme park rides at various hotels.

2. Orlando, Florida

And while Las Vegas is probably America’s best adult city for fun, Orlando could be its best family city for fun.

Of course, there is much more to Orlando than just the theme parks, but they help make it a very inviting place to go with children.

Like Vegas, Orlando is not always what it seems, it actually has a pretty vibrant nightlife with some fantastic bars and clubs, so there is plenty to entertain adults too.

It also ranked as the cheapest city in the top 8 of this list.

3. Miami, Florida

Combining fantastic nightlife with epic beaches and a wonderful art scene, it’s probably no surprise to see Miami in this list either.

The city has been having a record-breaking year for tourism and is a brilliant launchpad to visit other places in Florida (via train) or even the Caribbean (via cruise).

Any place where you go straight from the beach to the bar sounds fun to us.

4. Atlanta, Georgia

Predicted to be one of the most popular destinations in America for 2024, Atlanta is a city of great music, shopping, entertainment, and green spaces.

Great entertainment can be found at theatres such as the Alliance and the Atlanta Magic Theatre, while there is also an excellent zoo, the chance to ride cable cars at nearby Stone Mountain Park, and even the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, making it truly a city with something for everyone.

5. San Francisco, California

San Francisco came out as the most expensive city in the top 8 of this study, but it’s definitely still a fun place to be, even if it might hit your wallet a little harder.

Entertainment can be found in the shape of the zoo, the Museum of 3D Illusions, Golden Gate Park, a tour of Alcatraz, or even taking up a hike on one of the many trails surrounding the city.

Winter is a fantastic time to visit to witness America’s tallest living Christmas tree, the decorated coastal inns of Monterey County, or even to try ice skating at one of several seasonal rinks.

6. New Orleans, Louisiana

One of the cities that could rival Las Vegas as the best nightlife location in America, New Orleans is a place for those who love live music, entertainment, and partying.
