There are now over 50 countries that have digital nomad visas. Yet, with every visa comes different requirements.

While visas can be a ticket to a new life, they often need a lot of documentation and have income requirements to apply.

Luckily, you don’t have to worry about not meeting the requirements for some of the popular digital nomad visas. Here are three countries where it’s not only easy to apply, but there is no minimum income requirement.

1. Anguilla

Anguilla is a Caribbean island that is a part of the British West Indies.

Anguilla offers a nomad visa that’s good for one calendar year. You must leave once the visa expires, but you have 365 days to enjoy the warm weather and sun.

In addition, the island has fast internet, with an average speed of 100 Mbps.

When looking for a place to stay, the average cost of one bedroom is about $800. As an added perk, you can bring your pet if you prefer a furry companion over a roommate.

You can apply for the visa online and from anywhere in the world. The following documents are required:

- A valid passport that won’t expire in 6 months

2. Curacao

Sister islands to Aruba and Bonaire, Curacao is another island serving as a digital nomad paradise.

Although Curacao is located in the Caribbean, it is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Thus, a mixture of languages is used on the island, including Dutch, English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The multicultural island is great for digital nomads because of the warm and sunny weather, in the mid-70s and 80s Fahrenheit.

The government welcomes digital nomads through the AtHome program.

Requirements:
- Showing proof of working with clients or companies from a foreign country
- A $300 application fee with proof of payment
- Fill out the application online
- Apply for Digital Immigration Card (DI card) within seven days of arrival
Once your application is approved, you will enjoy life on the island where the US dollar is accepted everywhere. You can work comfortably from home with high-speed internet and reliable cell service. And there is free wifi available throughout different cafes and restaurants.

The visa is good for six months, with a possible extension for another six months.

3. Seychelles

If you want to work where you can spend your days off walking along pristine white sand beaches, then Seychelles is your place. Home to the Vallée De Mai National Park and Aldabra Toll, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, this country is a slice of heaven. This country is the smallest country in Africa, and very few know about it.

The best part is that obtaining a visa to live in Seychelles paradise is simple and cost-efficient. The visa, known as the Workation Retreat Program, is available to employed and self-employed people.

Requirements:
- Proof of income, such as bank statements showing you’re in good standing
- Letter from your employer
To process your application, you will have to pay a fee of only $46. Processing time is not defined, but many sources say that visas are usually processed in a few weeks. The visa is valid for one year, with a chance to renew for six months after your first year.

List of other countries with low or no income requirements

If the above countries aren’t your top choices for places to live, here are some other options.
- Colombia, which has a minimum income requirement of around $700 a month
- Ecuador, which a minimum income requirement of about $1200 a month
- Mexico, where you can stay for six months without a visa
- Canada has no restrictions on staying in the country for the first six months.

UAE Removes All Travel Restrictions

The United Arab Emirates is the latest country to drop all entry requirements and remove internal COVID-related restrictions.

As of November 7, this Gulf state finally joins more than 120 countries that have gotten rid of travel restrictions, returning to normal travel.

The UAE is a popular tourist destination in the Middle East, with Dubai being the top place to visit in the country.

But up until this recent change, the UAE maintained strict entry requirements and internal restrictions that dissuaded many travelers from visiting for the past two and a half years.

In order to enter the country, travelers were required to comply with a myriad of restrictions in place.

However, as of November 7, all of these rules have been dropped.

What Does This Mean For Travelers?

Previously, visitors to the UAE were required to demonstrate proof of vaccination or present a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours of their arrival in order to enter the country.

Within the country a variety of COVID-related restrictions were in effect.

This included indoor mask mandates, as well as the usage of a “Green Pass” on the Al Hosn app in order to enter most public places. These restrictions made travel within the country more difficult.

But according to an update from the Gulf Times, all of these internal restrictions have been dropped as of November 7, 2022.

Travel as usual has resumed in the UAE, making it easier to visit this Middle Eastern country once again.

The Netherlands Drops All Entry Requirements And Travel Restrictions

Effective September 17^th, 2022, the Dutch Government has made the decision to get rid of all Covid-19 travel restrictions and requirements. This decision applies to all travelers, including those traveling into the Netherlands from outside the EU/Schengen area. The Netherlands kept their Covid protocols for travelers in place much longer than the majority of European countries. However, as of September 17^th, the country has officially taken its name off the list of the last European countries that still have entry requirements.

Currently, Spain is the last major European country with entry requirements still in place. As other long-time holdouts like the Netherlands drop their final remaining protocols, perhaps Spain will soon follow.

Who Is Most Affected? What Does This Mean For Travelers?

Until recently, the Netherlands had a complete ban on unvaccinated travelers from countries like America or Canada. As a result, this decision directly affects unvaccinated travelers from both countries. Before this decision, Americans and Canadians had to be fully vaccinated in order to visit the Netherlands. Visitors from EU/Schengen countries were allowed to enter the Netherlands without restrictions. Still, the country did not let up on protocols for any other travelers.

September 17^th’s decision means that unvaccinated travelers from all countries, including Americans and Canadians, will be able to enter the Netherlands without proof of vaccination or evidence of a negative Covid test. The country does not have any mask requirements in place, and all venues are open and operating normally. Traveling to the Netherlands now will offer an experience much like before the pandemic turned the world upside down.

Travel Chaos, Know Before You Go

This news will likely pique travelers’ interest, and some may be ready to book their next ticket out. Most travelers who visit the Netherlands go to the nation’s capital, Amsterdam. Indeed, the city was ranked as the 26^th most popular city in the world in 2019 when it welcomed 8.84 million tourists. Many people wanted to visit Amsterdam this summer even when the vaccine requirement was still in place. Unfortunately, the city’s airport was woefully underprepared. As a result, Amsterdam was the European capital of travel chaos this summer.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport had a rough summer, and it doesn’t look like it will get much better for travelers interested in visiting this fall. The airport announced on Friday, September 16^th, that it would reduce daily passenger counts by 18% through the end of October due to its labor shortage. The airport is one of the busiest in the world and is a significant transfer hub for many major airlines. However, the country recently made the decision to cut flights by almost 20% compared to pre-pandemic levels in an effort to combat climate change and get away from its “transfer hub” reputation.

An Odd Decision

Amsterdam is a city filled with beautiful canals, 16^th-century architecture, and of course – bikes. There are plenty of different things to do. Still, for many, the first thought after hearing about Amsterdam is of Marijuana. Famed for its lax rules regarding cannabis consumption well before most other countries in the world, Amsterdam has long been regarded as a haven for cannabis enthusiasts. Indeed, as much as 30% of all tourists that visit Amsterdam visit one of its coffee shops with the sole intention of purchasing cannabis, and it’s big business for the area.

That is why a recent push by the city’s Mayor may come as a surprise. The Mayor, Femke Halsema, intends to make cannabis purchases in the city a residents-only privilege. The plan has yet to be implemented. Still, travelers visiting with cannabis as one of their main reasons should keep an eye on the news to ensure they remain unaffected. This isn’t a set-in-stone change but is something being seriously considered – making it worth keeping tabs on.

Getting There

American travelers interested in visiting Amsterdam can fly direct from 20 U.S. cities, while Canadians can fly direct from 5. Travelers from both countries should be weary when flying back, as Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has had extremely long lines this summer. Go to the airport much earlier than you would have in the past, and try to avoid checking a bag if possible.

Travelers flying to Amsterdam from Canada should be extra careful if they fly out of Toronto Pearson or Montreal Trudeau airports. Both were recently ranked as the first and second worst airports in the world for flight delays.

The Cayman Islands Return To Normal Entry Requirements Dropping All Restrictions

American sunseekers, this is the moment you’ve been patiently waiting for. The Cayman Islands, one of the hottest cruise ports and leading destinations of the Caribbean has just dropped all entry requirements. Heading into the fall, the islands will no longer require visitors to present health-related documentation, finally reinstating pre-Covid normality.

For two and half a years, the famous archipelago applied some of the strictest rules in all of the Americas, barring unvaccinated visitors while requiring those able to produce a vaccination certificate to apply for authorization in advance. Naturally, these self-imposed barriers have been hampering the recovery of tourism.

Fortunately, as of this week these have all been lifted:

Cayman Fully Reopens For Tourism After Two And Half Years

For the first time since Covid was declared an emergency, the Government of the Cayman Islands has decided to rescind all regulations that have kept a large number of tourists from coming back to their favorite vacation spot. Beginning August 24, all will once again be allowed to enter free of scrutiny and strict border checks, including unvaccinated Americans.

This makes the British Overseas Territory the latest Caribbean destination to return to their pre-pandemic travel guidelines, in a list that includes all of America’s top rated sunny breaks. Prior to the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, The Dominican Republic, Belize and countless others opened up for tourism, moving away from the harsh zero-Covid approach.

Now, visiting Grand Cayman, or any other destination within the territory will feel like it was in 2019:
- No pre-departure testing
- No mandatory pre-arrival registration form
- No vaccination certificate required
- No booster certificate required
- No post-arrival testing
- No state-regulated quarantine
Whether they are arriving by sea or air, visitors will be able to step into the sun and enjoy their hard-earned break in paradise stress-free. As the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism confirms, starting this Wednesday, all American travelers are now permitted to cross the border simply by bringing a valid passport, ‘without the need of any additional documents’.

Although travel insurance is also not mandatory, we cannot stress enough the importance of carrying a valid insurance policy when flying abroad, especially now that U.S. airlines are failing to meet their targets and cancelations are widespread. Trust us, you don’t want to be left stranded in Cayman if your flight back is axed at the very last minute.

What Has Changed Following The Latest Update?

Before the update, U.S. citizens and any other foreigners flying to Grand Cayman had to seek permission beforehand. The so-called ‘Travel Certificate’, which served as proof for Cayman border authorities that a traveler had been pre-screened and deemed fit for travel, could be easily obtained through an online portal – that is, if you were vaccinated.

Those who were not had their applications routinely turned down, unless they were a British Overseas Territory citizen linked to the Cayman Islands, or someone with close ties to local residents. Additionally, the few allowed to board a Cayman-bound flight or vessel had to present a negative test and later isolate at their accommodation, or home, for 7 full days.

The quarantine did not apply to vaccinated travelers, though they were still subject to the pre-arrival testing rule up until June 30. These regulations made the territory an outlier in the Caribbean, as a majority of countries in the region accepted Covid is no longer a disruptive disease and ceased to restrict tourism in return.

At last, Cayman has joined what we’re dubbing the Freedom Club.

What About Masks?

Similarly to the border restrictions, the Cayman Government has scrapped mandatory mask usage all across the islands. Since June 30, visitors have not been expected to wear face coverings in any indoor or outdoor settings, including:
- Beaches
- Clubs and entertainment venues
- Restaurants
- Leisure centers
- Public transportation
It is worth noting private establishments may still enforce mask usage.

The Cayman Islands are a collective of 3 small islands part of the British Commonwealth in the Western Caribbean. The largest of them, Grand Cayman, is the main entry point and a home to world-renowned resort brands, such as the Ritz-Carlton, Palm Heights and Margaritaville. On the other hand, Little Cayman is popular among nature enthusiasts for its diverse nature, marine life and water sports.

These Are The Last 3 European Countries With Entry Requirements

As the first official post-pandemic summer unfolds, millions of travelers are heading to their favorite European destinations. Most travelers do not need to worry about Covid entry requirements, as nearly all European nations have removed all entry requirements. The most recent country to do so was France, which removed entry restrictions on August 1^st, 2022. After France’s announcement, only three European countries still have Covid entry requirements for international travelers.

The last three countries in Europe with entry requirements are Spain, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg. For travelers heading to other European nations, they won’t have to worry about: vaccination status, recovery proof, testing, or quarantine. Unfortunately, for those wishing to visit any of the three countries listed above, there are still restrictions in place that may force some travelers to seek out other destinations.

Spain Entry Requirements

For travelers from EU or Schengen Associated countries, there are no restrictions for entering Spain. For those coming from countries like America or Canada, there are still entry requirements in place.

Travelers Must Show Proof of One of The Following:
- Certificate of Covid-19 Vaccination
- A negative NAAT test taken within 72 hours of departure, or an Antigen test taken within 24 hours of departure.
- Certificate of recovery from Covid-19.
For those willing to fulfill one of the requirements above, Spain currently allows tourists to visit. Restrictions on occupancy in establishments have been lifted, and it is no longer mandatory to wear masks indoors or outdoors unless on public transport or in health centers. For travelers planning to head to Spain, we recently announced the cheapest and most expensive Spanish cities to visit this summer.

The Netherlands Requirements

For travelers from EU or Schengen Associated countries, there are no restrictions for entering The Netherlands. For those coming from countries like America or Canada, there are still entry requirements in place.

Travelers Must Show Proof of The Following:
- Certificate of Covid-19 Vaccination
For those who are fully vaccinated that wish to visit The Netherlands, their trip should not be hindered too much. Masks are not required anywhere, including on public transport. Public venues like restaurants or bars are operating as usual and no longer require a Covid entry pass.

Luxembourg Requirements

For travelers from EU or Schengen Associated countries, there are no restrictions for entering Luxembourg. For those coming from countries like America or Canada, there are still entry requirements in place.

Travelers Must Show Proof of One of The Following:
- Certificate of Covid-19 vaccination
- Certificate of recovery from Covid-19
For fully vaccinated travelers, Luxembourg is still an option for a visit. There is no quarantine requirement, and no curfews are in place. There is no longer a mask mandate, except in hospitals and elderly care centers.

When Will Entry Requirements End?

Unfortunately, the end dates for entry requirements for Spain, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg can only be speculated. However, they have each given signs that an end to entry requirements is looming. All three countries have revised their entry requirements for EU or Schengen Associated nationals, allowing them to visit without restriction. As the countries monitor case counts and infection rates after easing restrictions on EU and Schengen Associated country nationals, they are sure to move forward with removing restrictions on the rest of the world.

Are Restrictions Gone For Good?

Let’s hope so! Travelers have suffered restriction whiplash in some countries over the last few years. Countries like the UK saw almost all Covid restrictions go away in July of 2021, only to see them come back with a vengeance as Omicron swept through the nation in December of the same year. It seems that most countries have decided enough is enough.

However, the World Health Organization recently urged Europe to reinstate Covid restrictions before it is too late ahead of the fall and winter season. Time will tell whether or not Covid restrictions stay gone for good, but it seems the majority of travelers and countries are ready to put it to rest.

Belize Removes All Covid Entry Requirements

And that’s one more down. After imposing some of the strictest entry rules in Central America, requiring either proof of vaccination or a negative test, and routinely issuing quarantine orders for those who tested positive on arrival, Belize is finally removing all of its Covid entry requirements, returning to a pre-pandemic state of normality.

According to the Belize Tourism Board, the lifting of the measures has immediate effect. This means that, from this moment forward, tourists will not be subject to Covid travel rules arriving in Belize. This is great news both for vacationers and long-term travelers country-hopping across the increasingly popular Central America.

Here is everything you need to know about Belize’s latest policy update:

No Vaccination, No Testing – Entry Is As Easy As It Was In 2019

Belize is one of trendiest places to be in the Americas right now. Home to a vast jungle where some of the best preserved Mayan-era monuments can be found, including the landmark Caracol ruins, and an immaculate Caribbean coastline with turquoise waters and sandy beaches, the small nation is ready to reclaiming its status as a tourism powerhouse.

More than two years into the pandemic, Kevin Bernard, Belize’s Minister of Health and Wellness, has decided it is time to move on to the ‘next level’, one where the public is responsible for assessing Covid risks on their own, including whether they should wear masks, be vaccinated, or practice social distancing.

As Bernard stated, ‘it is now everyone’s personal responsibility to decide whether they want to be vaccinated or not‘, and that includes foreigners landing in Belize, who up until this week had been expected to comply with vaccine and testing requirements, as well as purchasing mandatory health insurance.

Luckily, since July 12, all of these prerequisites stopped applying.

Which Rules Have Been Scrapped And Which Ones Were Extended?

Bernard remarks that, now that ‘weaker variants’ of Covid are circulating and a majority of countries are jumping on the reopening trend, ‘the time has come’ for Belize to join them in taking the ‘pressure’ off of its health system, as well as easing rules at the border. In sum, none of the following are needed for travel to Belize:
- No vaccination or booster certificates
- No pre-departure testing, including for the unvaccinated
- No post-arrival testing
- No post-arrival quarantine, irrespective of immunization status
- No Covid health insurance
Flying from any departure points in North America into Belize City, or crossing any of the land borders with neighboring Mexico is as easy as it had once been, making this exciting country a strong contender for your next trip abroad. Direct flights are available from every major U.S. city, including Chicago, L.A., Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami and Orlando.

Despite the relaxation of health-related rules, the country’s authorities have reiterated that international visitors must continue booking their stays at a ‘Gold Standard’ hotel – namely one of the governments’ approved accommodation providers. Travelers with eyes on visiting Australia rejoice, as the country has just removed all of its strict Covid-19 related entry requirements. The Land Down Under has made headlines throughout the pandemic for its strict, no-nonsense approach to dealing with the spread of the virus. From all but closing its borders to international travelers to implementing city wide lockdowns over a handful of cases, the country took extreme measures with the aim of keeping its people safe – but it looks like, at long last, its days of arbitrary entry restrictions have finally come to an end.

For the first time in years, it means that all visa-holding travelers will now be able to visit Australia and sample all the sunny, culture-filled country has to offer – and it comes just in time for summer. Here’s a look at the changes Australia has made to its Covid-19 related entry restrictions, including which entry requirements are on their way out, which other restrictions travelers should be aware of plus a look at the current Covid-19 situation in the country.

Australia Removes Entry Barriers – What Travelers Should Know

Up until recently, Australia boasted some of the strictest entry requirements in the world. On February 21st – when other countries were beginning to drop their entry requirements completely – Australia only made it possible for fully vaccinated travelers to enter, making entry to the country impossible for millions of unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated travelers. However, as of Wednesday, these strict entry requirements are set to be a thing of the past.

On Sunday Australia’s home affairs minister, Clare O’Neil, announced that the country would be removing all of its Covid-19 related entry requirements, making visiting the country not only much easier, but much more of an attractive proposition for millions of potential arrivals. In doing so, Australia has joined the likes of popular destinations such as Portugal, Thailand and several other countries who have also made changes to their entry requirements over the past few days.

That means that from Wednesday July 6th, travelers will no longer need to show proof of vaccination in order to be able to enter the country, allowing all visa-holding or visa exempt travelers to be able to enter for the first time since the pandemic took hold. With the country already having removed the requirement to take a Covid-19 test, it makes entry into the country just as easy as it was prior to the pandemic.

That’s not the only entry requirements change that Australia is set to make. Also from Wednesday, the country will be removing the requirement for inbound travelers to complete the Digital Passenger Declaration, or DPD. The DPD has long since come under fire ever since it was rolled out for being not very user friendly. However, the Minister Clare O’Neill stated that the system will likely make a comeback in the future to replace the paper-based incoming passenger card.

Travelers should be aware that state specific rules also apply in Australia and could be subject to change. Whilst there are no longer any rules in place regarding cafes, bars and restaurants, face masks must be worn when on public transport in each of Australia’s states, apart from the Northern Territory and Tasmania. Travelers will also have to wear masks when flying on both international flights to Australia and domestic flights within the country. The number of Covid-19 cases in Australia has remained high yet steady for several weeks, with the country reporting an average of just below 33,000 positive cases of the virus per day. According to the US Travel Advisory system, Australia is a Level 1 country, meaning it is amongst the safest destinations to visit in the world.

Portugal has become the latest country to remove all of its Covid-19 entry requirements.

The wildly popular travel destination was one of the few remaining major tourist destinations to still have relatively strict entry requirements in place. However, following today’s positive announcement, the sunny destination will now join the growing list of other countries on the continent and around the world that have liberated travelers of tests and vaccine passport requirements – just in time for a busy summer of travel.

Whilst the travel situation throughout Europe still looks fraught, with strikes, delays, and cancellations affecting the travel plans of many travelers, being able to visit Portugal without tests or any other kinds of documentation will likely bring some cheer to the great numbers of travelers looking to jet off to the country over the next few months.

Here’s a closer look at what exactly is set to change regarding entry to Portugal, and what else travelers should know about visiting the country.

Portugal Removes Entry Requirements – What Travelers Should Know

The last few months have been full of positive stories for travelers, particularly when it comes to countries dropping their Covid-19 related barriers and opening up to travel once more. However, whilst much of Europe has peeled back their entry requirements in favor of welcoming tourists back, some countries have resisted so far, including Portugal. However, that has now all changed courtesy of an announcement made by the country today.

Prior to today, entry to Portugal was still a relatively tall order for travelers, which saw many flock to alternate destinations on the continent as a result. In order to be able to enter the country, Portugal had required travelers to ensure that they had either proof of a negative Covid-19 test result, proof of recovery from a Covid-19 infection or proof of their vaccination against the virus. However, as of today, travelers will no longer need any of those things to enter.

The change to Portugal’s entry requirements was reported by the country’s National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) today. It states that travelers will no longer need to present a negative test result in order to fly into the country, nor will they need to show proof of vaccination through either the EU Digital Certificate or any other means.

In short, travelers are now free to enter the country in exactly the same way they were before the pandemic – armed with only a passport and a relevant visa where required.

The change is live now, meaning that travelers flying to the country from July 1, 2022 onwards will find the process of entering the country a relative breeze – just like it is to enter most other European destinations.

Following Portugal’s change, it means that there are just five countries in Europe that are still clinging on to their Covid-19 related entry requirements – Spain, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Malta.

According to the official document that brought about the changes, it was made due to the fact that “the epidemiological situation experienced in Portugal following the Covid-19 disease pandemic has remained relatively stable, as a result of the high vaccination coverage, the emergence of new drugs for the serious disease and greater knowledge about the infection”.

The dropping of the entry requirements comes at a strange time for Portugal – not that anyone is complaining – with the country currently reporting some of the highest Covid-19 statistics on the continent. The past week has seen an average of nearly 9,000 daily cases, with early June seeing as many as 70,000 cases reported in one day. However, with summer fast approaching and the country at risk of missing out on another consecutive year of a tourist drought, it seems Portugal has pivoted towards living with Covid-19 – though not entirely.

Whilst it may be a piece of cake entering the country, Portugal is still pretty strict with regards to managing the spread of the virus once travelers arrive. The country’s Minister of the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, revealed in a press conference this week that mask wearing on public transport, hospitals and pharmacies was still required and strongly recommended in other situations. That said, the change is a positive step in the right direction, and has firmly put Portugal back on the map as a serious destination for travelers to consider this summer.

Thailand Lifts All Mask Requirements Both Indoors And Outdoors

Once one of the strictest countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand has been progressively easing its Covid mandates in recent weeks. After removing the Thailand Pass, an entry authorization visitors had to apply for before entering, the country has now lifted all mask requirements, both indoors and outdoors, being the freest it’s ever been in over two years.

With immediate effect, mask usage has ceased being compulsory within Thailand, allowing the aptly named ‘Land of Smiles‘ to smile once again. In a continent mired in restrictions, where the virus is still treated as an imminent threat and travel heavily curtailed, the nation is one of a select few to have relaxed some of the most stringent measures.

As a matter of fact, removal of mandatory masks is further proof Thailand is changing approach and slowly moving towards an imminent declaration of Covid as an endemic disease:

Tourists Can Explore Thailand Mask Free As Of June 2022

On June 23, 2022, the Thai government revoked the mask mandate across the country, following an official ordinance signed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha easing certain pandemic regulations. As the announcement published in the Royal Gazette reads, from the aforementioned date, ‘the wearing of hygienic or cloth masks shall be voluntary‘.

According to an official source at the Public Health Ministry, the entity responsible for handling the crisis in Thailand, ‘the lifting of the mask requirement applies to both indoor and outdoor spaces‘. To put it simply, tourists will no longer be expected to wear coverings when strolling the busy streets of Bangkok, or relaxing at Krabi;s paradise beaches.

While they confer some protection against Covid, having been widely used throughout the pandemic, masks have long been associated with discomfort, especially in Western countries like the U.S., where the practice was not common prior to 2020, and particularly warmer, humid environments, like Thailand.

Now, both tourists and residents in Thailand will be able to travel the country mask-free, and without being subject to the much criticized restrictions on movement that had been in place up until recently. With each passing day, tourism in Thailand is edging towards a pre-pandemic state of normality as the nation quickly outpaces its neighbors in reopening.

Right now, mask usage is no longer enforced in all of the following settings:
- Clubs
- Bars
- Restaurants
- Nightclubs
- Museums, temples and other cultural sites
- All outdoor areas, including public beaches
What About Public Transport And Flights?

At this moment, we have not been able to confirm the ordinance applies to public transport as well, as there is no mention of that in the Royal Gazette. Thai Airways, the country’s flag-carrier, maintains that ‘masks must be worn at all times’ in airports, while Bangkok’s privately-owned metro service confirmed commuters would still have to wear them.

Although the mask requirement has been lifted on a national level, private companies and certain entertainment venues may continue enforcing their usage. Additionally, the Health Ministry has re-issued a recommendation that people should wear masks in ‘crowded or poorly ventilated areas’, despite the nonbinding nature of the statement.

Tourists who may be at a ‘high risk’ of experiencing severe Covid symptoms are also urged to pack enough masks. The list includes the elderly, aged 60 and above, pregnant women, individuals with chronic illnesses, such as cancer, diabetes, respiratory, cardiovascular or kidney diseases, and individuals yet to be fully immunized.

Is Thailand A Safe Destination Right Now?

As reported by Reuters, Thailand’s infection figures are totaling only 8% of the April 4 peak and falling, or only 2,094 new infections on average per day. So far, Thailand has administered nearly 140 million doses of the Covid vaccine, enough to have immunized roughly 99.5% of the population, a higher rate than several Western World countries.

The downward trend, coupled with the successful vaccination campaign and the broader relaxation of rules, gives strong indication that the country is now a safe destination to visit. It also menas the Thai Government’s plan of moving several tourist hotspots, including Phuket, to the endemic phase could materialize soon.

As things stand, social life and tourism have already resumed. In order to enter Thailand quarantine-free from July 1, travelers must present one of the following documents:
- A valid vaccination certificate; or
- A negative ATK/RT-PCR test result issued in the previous 72 hours
Applying for the Thailand Pass and taking out health insurance is no longer mandatory. However, as cancellations plague the industry and travel disruption aggravates, we seriously recommend you get insured ahead of flying to Thailand in order to avoid getting stranded on a trip to South East Asia – or worse.

Thailand’s government has revealed its plans to completely drop the Thailand Pass needed for entry, paving the way for the country’s easiest entry requirements since the start of the pandemic. The popular Southeast Asian country, whose capital city Bangkok was once crowned the world’s most visited city back in 2019, has struggled to welcome tourists in large numbers since introducing strict entry requirements as Covid-19 spread, but that could all be set to change with the removal of the pass.

The removal of the Thailand Pass is just one of several measures that Thailand will be adopting next month as it repeals several Covid-related rules, such as the mask mandate and strict regulation of its nightlife industry. Here’s a look at what is set to change in the country, and how travelers can enter the country from next month.

Thailand Pass Removed – Information For Travelers

Ever since the Thailand Pass was launched last year, it has undergone several different facelifts and rule changes as the country reacted to the changing situation regarding the pandemic. From large insurance requirements and proof of vaccination, to booking stays in quarantine hotels and post-arrival testing, Thailand hasn’t made it easier for travelers to be able to enter the Land Of Smiles – until now.

Following a government meeting, it was revealed yesterday that Thailand would be removing its Thailand Pass requirements for all foreign travelers from July 1st. That means that travelers will no longer have to apply for a Thailand Pass in order to enter, nor will they need to purchase an insurance policy that covers Covid-19 prior to flying to the country. Thailand will also be removing its thermal scanning facilities at its borders.

There are still some Covid-19 related restrictions that are set to remain. Travelers will still need to have either proof of vaccination against the virus or a negative test result to enter the country, as arrivals will be randomly checked for these documents. Tests can be either a RT-PCR or professional ATK test taken within 72 hours of travel. Unvaccinated travelers who are randomly checked and cannot produce a negative test result will need to undergo a professional ATK test at the point of entry.

The Thailand Pass – with its bug-filled website and out of date entry requirements – has longer since been viewed with travelers as a significant barrier to travel, with many choosing to visit other, requirement-free destinations instead. Now that it is set to be removed, travelers are expected to travel to the country in their droves, bringing respite to the country’s ailing tourism industry.

Travelers will also be glad to know that the removal of the pass isn’t the only significant policy change starting on July 1st. Also from this date, the country will be partially repealing its mask mandate, making the wearing of masks when outdoors or in uncrowded places voluntary. Masks will still be required in situations such as public transport, markets and at concert venues, but travelers can look forward to mask-free strolls on the beach. More provinces are also set to become “green zones”, allowing more business types such as bars to open for longer.

Each of these changes are subject to their publication in the Royal Gazette, a process in the Thai legal system that is needed before changes become law, but their ascension into law is expected to be granted. It’s been a month full of change in Thailand, with the country also recently legalizing the use of cannabis – making it the first country in Asia to do so.
