When you hear the stats on the new AVA Resort Cancun, a certain kind of skepticism is natural. With over 1,600 rooms, it is, by any definition, a truly massive property. For seasoned travelers, “massive” can often be a code word for long lines, impersonal service, and that dreaded “burn and churn” mentality where you feel more like a number than a guest.
We at Travel Off Path have visited our fair share of mega-resorts, so we went to check out the property with a healthy dose of skepticism, fully expecting to experience some of these big-resort growing pains.
We were wrong. In fact, we were completely surprised.
The AVA Resort Cancun is that rare unicorn in the world of hospitality: a mega-resort with the intimate soul and vibrant heartbeat of a boutique hotel. Its ability to deliver on both epic scale and personalized service is nothing short of remarkable, and it has immediately established itself as a top-tier contender in the luxury all-inclusive space.
The Heartbeat of the Resort: The Promenade ❤️
The true genius of the AVA and the secret to its unique vibe can be found on its main level. Everything—and we mean everything—is located on one magnificent, air-conditioned indoor promenade that stretches for over half a mile along the entire length of the resort.
This brilliant design choice solves the single biggest problem that plagues other giant resorts: navigation. Gone are the days of deciphering confusing maps, getting lost on winding outdoor paths, or waiting ten minutes for a golf cart just to get to dinner. At AVA, every restaurant, bar, shop, and activity entrance is right there on the promenade. It’s the central nervous system of the resort, making it unbelievably easy to get your bearings.
But it’s more than just convenient. This layout creates an incredible, dynamic energy. In the evening, the promenade comes alive. You can stroll from a high-end cocktail bar to a chic boutique, grab a scoop of authentic gelato, listen to the music spilling out of a restaurant, and window-shop, all in climate-controlled bliss. It feels like the vibrant Royal Promenade of a luxury cruise ship, but on a much grander and more luxurious scale. It encourages exploration and allows you to bar-hop and people-watch, creating a sense of community and excitement that is simply missing from other resorts where amenities are scattered across acres of land.
You Will Not Be Bored: A Deep Dive into the Activities 🎳
While the AVA is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the airport, it is not in the bustling Hotel Zone. The trade-off for this relative isolation? An absolutely staggering array of on-site activities that makes it almost impossible to get bored. You could genuinely spend a full week here and not experience everything the resort has to offer. The list is almost overwhelming:
For the thrill-seeker: A full-scale laser tag arena, a state-of-the-art arcade with racing simulators, and even a multi-room escape room experience.
For the family (or kids at heart): A sleek, modern bowling alley that feels more like a private lounge.
For the evening: A stunning, professional-grade theater hosting nightly shows and entertainment.
For practical needs: A collection of chic shops, a “tienda” for sundries and snacks, and a well-stocked pharmacy.
This is all before you even step outside.
Pools, a Lagoon, and Endless Loungers ☀️
The outdoor space at AVA is just as impressive as the interior. A series of absolutely giant pools stretches across the entire oceanfront length of the property, meaning you are never far from a place to cool off. And for anyone who has experienced the dreaded 6 AM “towel game” at other resorts, you can breathe a sigh of relief. There are literally thousands of comfortable lounge chairs available at all hours of the day. Finding a great spot is never a problem.
The true showstopper, however, is the expansive saltwater lagoon. This is a massive, crystal-clear body of water powered by sustainable technology that provides a perfect, protected environment for water sports. We spent an afternoon kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (all included, of course) in the calm, turquoise water. In the middle of the lagoon is a huge, inflatable obstacle course, and yes, the adults were having just as much fun on it as the kids. Ensuring younger members of the familia have their own slice of paradise, the resort boasts a sprawling kids’ waterpark with multiple slides designed for endless aquatic fun.
The “Familia” Feeling: Service, Dining & Rooms 🍽️
This is where the AVA truly defies its size. You will hear the staff use the word “familia” a lot, and it’s not just a marketing slogan; it’s a philosophy that clearly runs through the veins of the resort. From the bartenders to the servers to the concierge, every interaction feels personal, warm, and genuine.
The food and beverage program is a major highlight. With 17 restaurants and bars, the quality and variety are exceptional. The Black Iron steakhouse serves up incredible ribeyes, tenderloins, and New York strips that are all included in your stay. Service at Veranda, the beautiful Italian restaurant, was flawless and attentive—and trust us, we’re picky. The room service breakfast arrived hot, fresh, and exactly on time. And after dinner, a stop at the gelato shop for one of their endless flavors became a nightly ritual.
The rooms themselves are spectacular. Every single room at the AVA is oceanfront, so there are no bad views. The beds are huge and incredibly comfortable, the robes are luxuriously soft, and the amenities are top-of-the-line, right down to the in-room Nespresso machines. The minibar is, of course, fully stocked and replenished daily.
The One Caveat & The Final Verdict
So, is it perfect? In nearly every way, yes. But for the sake of a fully transparent review, we must mention the one area where the Cancun Hotel Zone has an edge: the beach. The sand at AVA is soft and the area is well-maintained, but due to its location, it can be heavily affected by seaweed during the sargassum season, and the water doesn’t have that almost impossibly electric blue color you find further up the coast.
However—and this is a big however—the resort’s incredible pools and the massive, perfectly swimmable lagoon more than make up for it. For a resort experience this complete, it’s a trade-off we would happily make again.
So, do we recommend it? Absolutely, and without hesitation. It is a true, luxurious 5-star all-inclusive experience that somehow manages to feel both epic and intimate at the same time. The AVA has its service down to a science, and we dare say it is a major new competitor for legacy mega-resorts like Moon Palace. And that’s a very exciting thing for Cancun.

For many Americans, going across the pond is a summertime thing, as it is when Europe is at its most vibrant, beaches feel livelier, and seas are warm for swimming, but what if we told you not all parts of the continent are plunged into darkness and freezing temperatures over winter?
In fact, this lesser-known resort city in Spain is notoriously known for having pretty mild winters, with average temperatures of 63°F during the day and an average of 8 hours of sun per day most days, even in January, the coldest month.
Looking at the weather forecast, it’s no surprise Valencia stays popular with tourists well into the off-season, but that’s not the only reason why it’s essentially become, at this point, a year-round destination:
Valencia Is Spain’s Next Tourism Hotspot
Valencia is Spain’s third largest city, as well as one of the most populated anywhere in the Mediterranean, with as many as 1.6 million people residing in the wider metropolitan area.
It’s become a permanent feature on summer trip itineraries due to its privileged coastal location, with easy access to beaches and stunning natural parks, and an impressive concentration of tourist attractions, ranking up there with Madrid and Barcelona as a Spanish tourism hotspot.
A little introduction if we may: Valencia was founded as a Roman colony, and over the years, it has been ruled by several different empires, including a North African-Muslim caliphate, until Spain came into being.
This makes it a melting pot, with its many different influences evident in its urban layout.
It still follows Roman city planning, lying on a fertile ground where the Turia River and the Mediterranean meet, yet its architectural heritage is anything but harmonious, combining European and Moorish (North African) styles, and of course, modern developments.
What To See Around Valencia
A symbol of Valencia, the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences is popular among museumgoers, as it encompasses a planetarium, a science museum, an aquarium, an innovative opera house, and immersive art exhibits.
At the same time, the city boasts a vast collection of far older monuments, some of which have been added to UNESCO’s ever-expanding list of World Heritage Sites, including Lonja de la Seda, a late-medieval secular building with a majestic Hall of Columns.
Walking around central Valencia, tourists will be stepping on centuries upon centuries of History, dating back as early as the Greco-Roman period up until modern times, and the unique combination of ancient, Baroque, and modernist monuments is sure to blow their minds.
Valencia is primarily a coastal resort destination, however, and there are plenty of luxurious beachfront hotels offering sweeping views of the turquoise Mediterranean and its sandy coast to choose from.
Valencia Is An Affordable Coastal Destination
The top-rated ones include Las Arenas Balneario Resort, which is significantly cheaper to stay during winter, with overnight rates starting from $184, the stately One Shot Palacio Reina Victoria, in the heart of Valencia, from $193 per night, and the SH Valencia Palace, with overnights as cheap as $141.
Additionally, consumer prices in Valencia are typically lower than in other Mediterranean hotspots, which is why the city has emerged as one of Europe’s most prominent digital nomad and expat destinations.
Sunny days and vibrant culture aside, you can lead a comfortable life in Valencia, earning on average $3,040 per month, or the equivalent in euros.
Perhaps more surprisingly, Valencia is rapidly becoming a year-round destination, to the surprise of local authorities themselves, as it continued to register a higher number of arrivals, compared to most European sunny cities, as late as October.
Is Valencia Already A Year-Round Destination?
One could argue this is hardly a noteworthy feat, as Valencia is Mediterranean and, thus, it is poised for a better-than-average off-season due to its hotter climate, but tourism in nearly every single other ‘Med’ competitor tails off the closer we inch to December.
The cobbled hills of Santorini feel more tranquil, the fortified Croatian port of Dubrovnik suddenly becomes walkable again, and Southern France returns to its crowd-free, Savoyard glory – in other words, they are (nearly) abandoned by tourists as weather conditions turn gloomier.
Though this spells great news for budget travelers, who typically prefer the shoulder months as prices drop, it is a double-edged sword, with many accommodation providers and restaurants only operating seasonally, thus reducing options and a lacking social scene.
Valencia, on the other hand – like much of Southern Spain – does not suffer from the seasonal draught as much, with 85% of hotels staying open this winter and over 1.036 million arrivals recorded in October alone.
This is proof foreign visitors are quickly realizing Valencia has a lot more to offer than just beaches:
The Med may not be exactly ideal for swimming in January, and evenings may be chilly, but with the temperate climate and long hours of sunshine, this is still a perfect winter sun getaway and, most importantly, a cultural behemoth of the highest order.
For years now, Cabo has been a popular beach escapade for Americans, especially those living on the West Coast.
Not only is it geographically close and thus easy to reach, but it’s equipped with world-class amenities and surrounded by stunning nature.
It’s truly no surprise it’s growing so fast in popularity this year, having even toppled the mighty Cancun in that respect, but there’s another subcategory in which Cabo is excelling lately: that of higher-end tourism, with demand for luxury getaways increasing year after year.
With so many incredible development zones scattered around Mexico, you may be wondering why it’s Cabo’s that U.S. sun-seekers are flocking into:
Why Los Cabos Keeps Surging In Popularity
With the constant fluctuations of the dollar, which lost value against most major first-rank currencies, such as the euro and the British pound this year, some travel experts had suggested demand for luxury vacations would inevitably drop.
After all, when money’s tight, Americans don’t go splurging on a tropical resort and have historically tended to be more conservative regarding their savings. FITURCA, Cabo’s Tourism Trust, seems to have a different prediction and interpretation of the phenomenon.
According to Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, FITURCA’s director, the dollar’s instability may in fact lead to an increase in tourists opting for luxurious vacations, as perception of value increases, and customers favor spending dollars where they know they’ll get their money’s worth.
Now more than ever, travelers are seeking a more meaningful experience rather than just another beach vacay, and they are often not hesitant about shelling out the dough if that means identifying value in a product or when they are sure they will get a high degree of satisfaction from it.
Having hit a peak of 97% in 2021, Los Cabos’ satisfaction rates are among the highest in Mexico, with visitors commending the service offered at hotels, the highly developed infrastructure and applauding the resort zone’s tight surveillance and safety.
Unlike the Mexican Caribbean, which has taken a markedly different approach in promoting affordable all-inclusive packages over the years, Cabo’s eyed big spenders.
A Favorite Among Celebrities
Tourists are no strangers to flying semi-private jets when taking trips to Cabo, as airfares are not as prohibitive as one might think, and unlike the average Cancun visitor, who wants to enjoy their time in the sun without breaking the bank, Cabo’s clientele is actively looking for deluxe experiences.
In recent years, authorities have invested heavily in converting Cabo from a mere resort town into a luxurious wellness capital of Latin America, so much so that it now boasts the highest concentration of five-star spa resorts anywhere in the subcontinent.
From frequent celebrity guests like Britney Spears and Jamie Foxx to anonymous vacationers from California who put aside some money every month and count down the days to live it up in Cabo at the end of the year, it has become Mexico’s number-one luxury destination.
Cabo has the distinction of being home to the second-best hotel in the world in Waldorf Astoria, as selected by the prestigious French publication La Liste.
Overall, it features six times on the list, with other noteworthy entries including Montage Los Cabos, straddling the Pacific, and the landmark Grand Velas, an award-winning listing renowned for its architecture and impressive amenities.
Demand Will Keep Increasing In The Near Future
As Cascajares says, ‘the number of people interested in a luxurious vacation in the area will keep increasing in the following years’.
Yet another recent report has showed more than one in ten tourists traveling to Cabo are devoted foodies, as the Mexican Capes are known all over Mexico for their upscale restaurants and unique blends of indigenous Mexican cuisine and modern influences.
Other five-star experiences include well-frequented nightclubs, with better-selected customers than the Mexican Caribbean’s jungle parties, and yacht tours, with a growing number of guests renting private boats to explore natural attractions off the mainland, such as the famous Arcos.
Cabo is not only trendy: it is the guarantee of a well-spent, truly relaxing, luxurious vacation.
Being America’s number one tourist destination, Mexico attracts millions of sun-seekers and holidaymakers every year, usually headed to the Hotel Zone in Cancun or the resort-packed Baja California Sur, but while the powerful duo gets all the attention, other zones are often forgotten.
That is the case with the Riviera Nayarit, already an extremely popular resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast but one that never gets as much publicity despite boasting an equally high concentration of luxurious retreats and world-class amenities.
You may not have heard of it in a while, but the Riviera Nayarit is currently one of the fastest-growing destinations South of the border. This is why:
200 Miles Of Paradise
Though it is not as widely promoted as a destination like the Riviera Maya, the Riviera Nayarit extends for nearly 200 miles, lined by historical ports, development zones, and small fishing villages interspersed with sandy beaches and marine reserves.
A planned municipality a short half-hour drive from Puerto Vallarta, a city straddling the border between the states Jalisco and Nayarit, Nuevo Vallarta, or ‘New Vallarta’ is a resort town on the Bay of Banderas, home to renowned hospitality brands like Hilton, Velas, and Hard Rock.
Unlike Cancun or Playa Del Carmen, two of the Mexican Caribbean busiest spots, Nuevo Vallarta feels more like a gated community, full of luxury villas and palm-lined canals equipped with private docking piers.
It is somewhere you go if you’re not scared of splurging.
Punta de Mita has a similar environment, being the preferred destination of the ultra-wealthy and celebs jetting off to Mexico, but that’s not to say they are inaccessible to us, mere commoners: you can still find some pretty good vacation deals in the area, and rest assured you will feel like royalty.
This fall, the Grand Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa, 2.1 km from Punta de Mita, has overnight rates starting at $232. A five-star all-inclusive paradise, it features an enclosed stretch of beach, leisure centers, and four outdoor pools, one of which is an infinity pool.
An Underrated Cultural Hotspot
Nayrait is not all about living it up by the seaside, either.
Beyond the shiny new hotel towers and shopping complexes, there is a whole coast of pristine beaches, secret coves, and traditional settlements awaiting rediscovery.
Bucerias is one of those small ports, with a name that literally translates as ‘Divers Town’. A typical Nayarit town, it is cut by cobblestone streets that lead to a main square, where visitors will find a landmark church and souvenir shops.
The town also straddles 18 miles of white-sand beach lapped by the azure Pacific, other than hosting the famous Altavista archaeological site, where over 2,000 rock carvings that are over 1,500 years old have been found, belonging to the native Tecoxquine people.
Sayulita is yet another bucolic spot, with a population of only 2,300 or so inhabitants and a growing presence of surfers, who are attracted to the tall waves. In recent years, digital nomads have also begun flocking into the area, drawn to its laid-back lifestyle and tropical atmosphere.
Traveling up Nayarit, tourists are also encouraged to stopover at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, a fishing village on the Bay of Banderas only 15 miles from Puerto Vallarta, in the neighboring state of Jalisco.
It is easily recognized for the massive wooden cross fixed on the entrance.
Finally, there is San Blas, on the opposite end of the Riviera, 99 miles north of Nuevo Vallarta, commonly known as its ‘starting point’. Its Playa de Matanchen is notorious for having the longest surfable wave in the world, featured on the Guinness Book of World Records.
Is Nayarit Rising To Prominence Again?
With such a vast and diverse tourist offer, it’s no wonder the Riviera Nayarit is rising again in prominence, especially when five new hotels are set to be included in its portfolio.
As the Meridiano reports, state authorities are aiming high investing in the local tourism sector.
As the Secretary of Tourism Juiz Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado notes, however, new developments will follow the ‘European model’. This means tourists will only pay for their stay, minus the bottomless brunches and 24-hour catering.
The model may help keep the cost of accommodation down, as well as inject more money into the local community, as local businesses will have a chance to partake in the revenue distribution, as opposed to having resort brands simply hoarding cash from all-inclusive bookings.
In this situation, you can find restaurants, handicraft shops, and other businesses benefitting from the inflow of tourist dollars, unlike in Cancun or the wider Riviera Maya, where the all-inclusive model and luxury sector have led to controversial and irreversible gentrification.
The Meridianoinforms that future tourists will not only generate an ‘economic spill’ for the hotels but also for ‘all sectors of society’.
Other than new hotels, the state is also injecting money into cultural spaces, especially after five towns were awarded the title of ‘Pueblo Magico’ in recent weeks: San Blas, Ahuacatlán, Amatlán de Cañas, Ixtlán del Río, and Puerto Balleto.
Have you thought about visiting Central America and you’re not quite sure where you want to visit? You should absolutely check out San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
Whether you’re a digital nomad, looking for an extended stay, or just visiting Nicaragua for the week – La Santa Maria Resort in the heart of San Juan del Sur is the perfect place for you to stay.
This luxurious property has everything you need and more. Here are 6 reasons why it is perfect for your next trip:
Incredible Staff & Amenities
If you’ve traveled much, you know how big of a difference having friendly faces around can make for your trip.
Everyone we met and talked to at La Santa Maria was extremely kind and happy to help us with anything at a moment’s notice. They were even kind enough to drive us down to the main streets of San Juan del Sur and give us a tour of the most popular places to eat and things to do.
We felt right at home and like we were in very safe hands from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out.
One of the best things about the property was the beautifully modern and luxurious apartments. The apartment we stayed in was incredibly spacious with vaulted ceilings, two large bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a living room, and a full kitchen. We felt like we could have lived there comfortably for years.
Our apartment had an incredible view of San Juan del Sur and the Cristo de la Misericordia monument.
During one night of our stay, a thunderstorm passed over the area, and we watched as the dark, ominous clouds rolled over us as thunder and lightning struck in the distance. Luckily, it wasn’t raining in our area, and we got to witness the beautiful storm from our private balcony.
If you’re anything like me, then you like the option for peace and quiet, but you don’t want to be too far away from the heart of the city or town.
La Santa Maria is perched peacefully above the heart of San Juan del Sur but is a super short walk from the main strip.
You’re also a short drive away from the main surf spots (like Playa Remanzo) and a beautiful hike up to Cristo de la Misericordia for an incredible view of San Juan del Sur.
Even though there are countless foodie spots within a short walk from La Santa Maria, it’s sometimes really nice to have a place right outside your door where you can find delicious food.
The clubhouse on the property offers plenty of fresh and delicious snacks.
The avocado toast and fruit and yogurt granola bowl are just two of the must-have items on their clubhouse menu.
Great For Nomads
Whether you are a seasoned or budding digital nomad, La Santa Maria Resort is the ideal place to set up basecamp in San Juan del Sur for your next trip. The internet connectivity is great, and where better to get your work done for the day than the best overlook in town?
If you find yourself getting stressed, simply look up from your monitor for the best view of San Juan del Sur.
Want to get out of your room but still need to get work done? No worries! La Santa Maria has an onsite coworking space with a great view of the pool and the rest of the town.
Great For Families
If you have a family, then you will absolutely love La Santa Maria. They have plenty of space to explore around their gorgeous grounds and a fun playground tucked into the gardens. Plus, you can even book a room with a private pool for playtime anytime.
On your way through the gardens, you will pass the beautiful parrots that live on the property. You can even enjoy the peaceful garden while lying on hammocks right next to the parrots.
There are even more beautiful birds and animals scattered around the property at any given time. From parrots to peacocks to ponies, there’s always some amazing animal just around the corner.
As if the beautiful views, lively grounds, and stunning pools weren’t enough – the clubhouse even hosts movie nights with popcorn and snacks that the families get very excited about – especially the kids!
It’s Safe
When you’re on La Santa Maria’s property, you feel completely safe any time of day or night. There are on-site security guards, cameras, and gates.
The grounds feel peaceful and inviting even if you’re walking around super late at night.
Once you cross the threshold onto the property, you feel completely at peace knowing you can totally let your guard down.
There are certain places that check all the boxes for the typical American traveler — and as an American myself, I can really tell when a place puts effort into making sure they set themselves apart to make us feel right at home.
Most recently, I had a fantastic stay at the Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana all-inclusive in the Dominican Republic, where I was blown away by how perfect it was, especially for Americans.
What Do Americans Look For On Vacation?
This question has an easy answer…
Easy
While not every American traveler wants to sit on the beach and sip on cocktails all day, many of us are looking for an escape from our day-to-day life. As such, we are looking for one thing above all else — we want everything to be easy.
The average American only gets 11 days of paid vacation per year. And while we could write a whole post on that fact alone, it is what it is.
As a result, most Americans don’t want to have to spend their days off worrying about where to eat, how much they are spending, how to find what they need, or anything else.
Easy, simple, fast, comfortable and convenient. That’s what most Americans are looking for on vacation, and the Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana makes sure to provide it.
Here are 5 reasons why the Live Aqua Punta Cana all-inclusive is perfect for American travelers:
Everything Is Easy
This cannot be overstated. Staying at the Live Aqua Punta Cana made me realize just how much I want to live on a resort for the rest of my life ????. They made everything so incredibly easy I felt like I didn’t even have to think about doing anything for myself.
From the moment you check in until the moment you leave, your every need is catered to. In fact, you’ll may grow accustomed to their amazing service even before you land.
I had flight issues on the day I traveled down and ended up having to change my flight to land in Santo Domingo rather than Punta Cana. I could have pushed the flight back another day and stayed in Charlotte for the night, but I had plans I really did not want to miss the next day and was happy to pay the difference if needed.
99% of travelers will fly into the Punta Cana International Airport, and roundtrip airport transportation is included in their stay with Live Aqua.
As a result of my flight issues, I had to change my ground transport at the last minute, and the concierge was more than accommodating in making this happen. I never felt worried it wouldn’t be sorted out by the time I landed, and I was right not to.
Though my time on the road was much longer (and later) than I had anticipated, I landed in Santo Domingo and was quickly whisked away to the Live Aqua.
When I finally reached the resort, it was a bit after midnight. I wondered how check-in would go since it was so late, and it was a breeze! I was checked in within a minute or so, and the concierge took my bags, loaded them onto a golf cart, and drove me right to my room.
This level of service was already impressive and very welcomed after such a long travel day. When I got to my room, I scanned in with my new Live Aqua bracelet (another feature that makes staying there so easy) and got some much-needed rest in an ultra-comfy bed.
Here are some highlights of why everything is so easy at Live Aqua:
Resort Bracelet: No need to worry about forgetting your key while at the Live Aqua Punta Cana. When you check in, you’ll get a bracelet (don’t worry, it’s really comfy) that acts as your room key.
Personal Butler on WhatsApp: If you stay in a suite or book at club level, you’ll have constant access to your own butler via WhatsApp. This comes in handy when you have any requests at all, such as restocking the mini-fridge or bringing extra water bottles.
Food Is Always a Few Steps Away: There are so many food options, which are outlined more below, and you can always order room service too! In fact, when I arrived after midnight, the concierge made sure to ask if I was hungry after my long travel day. Anytime you are hungry, there will be food around.
Check-In/Out: I touched on this above, but checking into the Live Aqua Punta Cana was the easiest process ever, and checking out was exactly the same, which was great as I was rushing to make sure I made my flight out.
Endless Food Options With Good Portions
Americans are used to, quite frankly, portions that are more than necessary. For better or worse, most meals ordered out while in the States could easily be turned into 2, and this is what we are used to.
When traveling in certain areas of the world, I always have to remind myself not to expect the same thing abroad.
However, the Live Aqua Punta Cana makes you feel right at home with their portion sizes, and it doesn’t matter which restaurant you visit. And speaking of restaurants, you will never get bored of the variety. The Live Aqua boasts so many different places to eat and grab drinks it might even be hard to try them all!
Best of all, there is no need to make a reservation!
Many all-inclusives may have fine dining included as part of the stay, but you are often limited to certain nights, and you have to reserve your dinner in advance.
At Live Aqua, this is completely unnecessary. Want some fine-dining Italian food on a whim? Not a problem!
Places you can eat and drink include:
Liberi: This is the go-to spot when you want a bit of everything. A buffet-style restaurant that is great for breakfast or any other times you just want to stop in and eat right away.
Seishin: This is the perfect spot for people who love Asian fusion.
Cool Fever: This is the resort’s coffee shop, perfect for a quick pick me up after a morning walk on the beach.
Sospiro: This restaurant offers a feast of traditional Italian cuisine and was one of my favorites. I’m a sucker for Italian food, and this did not disappoint.
Compton St: This is a cool little sports bar offering quick bites and tasty drinks. It’s also a great place to play a round of pool.
Chez Rose: This is the perfect place for a more formal dinner and the French cuisine here is to die for. Highly recommend visiting at least once!
Miraflores: Get your Instagram ready, this casual spot is right on the beach and is the perfect place for a lunch with gorgeous views and a refreshing ocean breeze.
Miraflores at Live Aqua Punta Cana
ATL: Who doesn’t love Mexican food? Live Aqua is a Mexican-based brand, so they know what they are doing in ATL. Trust me, you’ll want to stop in.
Wonderpool: This is an outdoor casual area in the middle of all of the pools where you can take in the beautiful gardens a scenery with a tasty drink in hand.
Moonada: This rooftop bar overlooks the entire property as well as the beach and is a great spot to enjoy music and cocktails.
Huzur: A covered outdoor Mediterranean restaurant that overlooks one of the prettiest beaches in the Dominican Republic… what’s not to love?
The Strainer (aka the Lobby Bar): Don’t discount the lobby, it’s one of the prettiest parts of the resort! It’s also a great place to grab drinks and socialize while waiting for transportation before heading off on any day trips.
Constant Comfort
Are you sensing a theme here? Prepare for everything to be easy. Prepare to be constantly pampered. Prepare to have the most relaxing vacation you’ve ever had.
Live Aqua Punta Cana is one of the most relaxing places I have ever been, and I was beyond comfortable the entire time I was there.
The second you walk in, you are met with Live Aqua’s signature rubber duckies as well as their signature scent that immediately lets you know it is time to kick back and enjoy yourself.
I don’t know what the blend is, but if I had it at home, I don’t think I would ever get any work done ????.
My room was a den of comfort, and I still find myself daydreaming about the day bed right next to my own entrance to the swim-up pool just outside my room.
If you get the chance to book a swim-up suite or room, do it! It is so nice to be able to wake up and have a coffee in the inviting water just steps away from your bed while the sun comes up. After this trip, I’m totally sold on swim-up rooms and find myself looking for them whenever I travel.
But the comfort doesn’t stop in the room. All over the resort, you will find cozy spaces to dig into a bit of relaxation time. From the cabanas by the pool and beach to the inviting sofas in the lobby, you’ll not find an inch of the Live Aqua that doesn’t scream (or whisper, perhaps) relaaaxxx ????.
And if the constant comfort surrounding you isn’t enough to fill your cup, then head to the Feel Harmony Spa! Enjoy the different water rituals before heading to the sauna, or reverse order if you like. Just be sure to book the best massage you’ve had in ages before leaving!
I tried the deep tissue massage and felt like a new person when it was over. Seriously, the flight back to Punta Cana would be worth it just for another massage. Working entirely remotely means hours and hours on the computer, and I’m not the best at making sure I’m conscious of my posture.
As a result, my neck is pretty much always sore. After my deep tissue massage, I was able to move my head around pain-free for the first time in a long time!
Fast Service
I’ve lived in the Caribbean before for a time, and to spare specific islands any negativity, I’ll refrain from naming where. But one thing that can ring true in many areas is island time. And usually, this is a welcome experience after the constant go go go of the U.S.
However, waiting too long for food or drinks can get old for anyone if it takes too long, but most Americans (including myself) are used to very quick service.
Waiting more than a few minutes for a drink feels unnatural unless you live somewhere long enough to get used to it.
Luckily this was no issue at Live Aqua. Not only do they make sure to give the best service possible, but they also make sure it is quick. Whether it’s food, drinks, a request from your butler, or anything else, it’s unlikely that you’ll be waiting for long.
Constant Entertainment
America is known for constant entertainment, and as a result, we as Americans are always looking for the next thing to do, watch, or explore. I can only sit on the beach and read a book for so long before I feel like I need to move on to the next adventure.
I had no issue finding things to do at the Live Aqua, and I definitely plan to go back to explore some more. Not only does the resort itself have constant entertainment lined up for guests, but there are many fun day trips that are easy to set up right at the resort.
If you are headed to Punta Cana, I would highly recommend visiting the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve with Tropical Incentives. On your way there, your guide will give you information about Punta Cana, and the history of the area is very interesting in and of itself.
Once on the reserve, you’ll be able to spot beautiful tropical birds, turtles, and more as you make your way through the reserve on your way to explore several cenotes. The water is clear as can be and super refreshing on a hot day.
Typically, I’d say the cenotes are a perfect way to get away from sargassum-covered beaches, but you don’t even have to worry about that at the Live Aqua, as they have sargassum barriers in place to keep their beaches pristine.
Live Aqua Punta Cana Sargassum Barriers
While at the resort, you can join in on the fun by checking out some of the shows they have at night or getting a workout in at one of the super-fun group fitness classes. There is always something going on, whether it be a fun group workout, bumping music, games, or a show.
The resort makes it easy to know what is going on as they give you the schedule when you check in, and they also post it on a giant board on your way to Liberi.
Summing Up
Punta Cana is an absolutely gorgeous slice of the Caribbean, and you would be doing yourself a disservice by staying in anything less than the best while there. Live Aqua is certainly among the best and is the perfect place for Americans (and everyone else) to unwind and enjoy all that Punta Cana has to offer.
If you decide to visit Punta Cana, definitely be sure to check out The Dominican Republic Sun for all the latest travel news for Punta Cana and more!
**Travel Off Path was a guest of Live Aqua Punta Cana, who helped with the creation of this itinerary by hosting some of our accommodations and attractions. Our opinions, recommendations, and suggestions remain our own.**
Having gotten used to meticulously mapping out an itinerary prior to a trip, usually cramming it with activities and so much sightseeing there is barely room left to breathe, I often looked down on others who sought relaxation alone visiting Vietnam.
I wasn’t exactly keen on blending in with the crowd of holidaymakers sporting floral dresses and shirts in various floral patterns, fake tan on point as they flocked into the country with one collective goal in mind: lounging by the pool and basking in the sun for days on end, doing nothing.
However, following a wearisome, exceedingly-long train journey from South to Central Vietnam, I somehow found myself grinding to a sudden halt in Cam Ranh, a coastal resort town and one of many stops in-between destinations during my action-packed, month-long adventure.
My next train heading North would only be departing four days later, leaving me no choice but to join the beachgoers in kicking back and unwinding for a change… in Vietnam’s fastest-developing tourism strip at that.
Why not, then, go all out and check into one of the area’s top luxurious resorts to see what the fuss is about? Little did I know that what started out as a personal experiment would lead to a complete re-examination of my idea of a ‘truly’ authentic experience.
Touted as the ‘most exciting’ resort in Vietnam – though we will get to that further down – The Alma straddles the East Sea coast and is a stone’s throw away from the Cam Ranh International Airport – only 15 minutes driving.
It doesn’t matter if you’re flying into Cam Ranh from other parts of Vietnam, from abroad, or you’re first arriving at the train station in Nha Trang, the nearest major urban center some 28 miles away: you’ll have no issue getting to The Alma.
Contacting your concierge in advance, you can easily arrange a private transfer from the airport or other departure points in central Nha Trang. From the city, the journey takes roughly 40 minutes, driving along a scenic coastline with views of the Nha Trang islands.
My First Impressions
The first thing that caught my eye approaching The Alma was how palatial and immense it looked from the outside, as the chauffeur drove up the road snaking around the resort’s 30 hectares. From the window, I had a glimpse of imposing hotel towers, rows upon rows of private villas, and a water park.
Arriving at reception, my luggage was collected by porters and the van door slid open before I even got a chance to reach for the handle. Stepping out of the vehicle, I was instantly greeted by the staff, who helped me up the short set of stairs leading to the arrival hall.
Even though Vietnam has been open for tourism restriction-free for almost a year now, with Cam Ranh at the forefront of the tourism rebound as a development zone, I didn’t feel like the resort was extremely busy, even though occupancy rates have been climbing steadily since May 2022.
The whole check-in process took place in a heartbeat, with no queues to be seen as attentive staff effortlessly waved incoming guests through, with whatever insignificant amount of waiting required made endurable enough with welcoming refreshers and wet towels to help us cool down from the heat.
Once I was handed my key and a much-needed map for navigating the property, I was shown the way to the buggy car park, where a driver awaited, my luggage already safely stowed. Next stop: my Oceanfront Pavilion.
My Beachfront Oasis
As the buggy drove past the long corridors of villas interspersed with green foliage, I finally got to appraise how big of a behemoth The Alma actually is.
After the fourth turn, I gave up trying to memorize the surprisingly-long route there, and I suddenly became very aware of the map I clutched tightly with one hand along with my own personal belongings.
We made it there eventually, and the sight of my temporary, not-so-humble abode made me automatically break a smile. Unbeknownst to me, I had been assigned a three-bedroom oasis bounded by a lush garden, dubbed the Oceanfront Pavilion.
One feature my attention was immediately drawn to was the fact that my room key came in waterproof, wristband form, making it much harder for it to be lost or left inside the room – I can’t tell you how many times I have locked myself out of my own chambers in hotels.
Hardly note-worthy, but as I would learn later, the wristband has a dual purpose: it can be used for purchases within the premises, being registered to your room and serving as your credit card during your stay. Shopaholics, beware.
Crossing the threshold, I was surprised to find a super spacious living room, daylight coming in from all sides, a dining table in its center, where a basket of exotic fruits and a welcome package rested beside a bottle of Chilean Mapu wine.
Back to the pavilion itself, it is big enough to host an entire group of friends or family, with three rooms and their respective individual bathrooms and TV sets, and an additional fourth toilet for common use.
The kitchen comes with a minibar, supplied with complimentary sodas, water bottles, crisps, and KitKat chocolate bars, though it is filled a single time on arrival only. Although I doubted I’d be cooking, I had a microwave and an electric stove at disposal, and a kettle and coffeemaker with an impressive tea and coffee selection to go with it.
Traveling solo, I could have slept in a different room every night, but I instinctively paced towards the main suite, where I ended up dropping my bags in the end: the bed is impossibly large and soft to the touch, and I was sure it would accommodate three adults comfortably.
The upholstered tufted headboard is lit from behind with a soft LED strip set against a wooden panel reaching the ceiling, easily the most memorable element in the room.
Other than a bedside rug with triangular patterns, it lacks the usual abstract artwork and excess furnishing interior designers love to play with, but it does achieve the desired minimalist elegance as opposed to being just bare or lifeless.
Facing the bed, the TV set displayed the daily program and The Alma’s extensive list of amenities. Still inside the room, I particularly enjoyed the modern walk-in shower and the water pressure, so strong when it hits your back it’s almost therapeutic, as well as the spacious bathtub in the main suite, where most of the aforementioned Mapu would be consumed.
I travel light these days, especially in this post-COVID climate where luggage keeps getting lost, so I don’t carry an awful lot of toiletries around with me. Luckily, The Alma provided me with all the toilet essentials and then some, from a toothbrush and toothpaste to a hygiene kit and even cotton buds.
My favorite feature has to be my private pool facing the beach.
I’m the introverted guy who normally doesn’t go in the water and instead stays by the poolside reading or catching up with work, with both the shouts of children and my peers’ perfect bodies often inhibiting me, but even I couldn’t resist this pool’s gorgeous setting:
Of course, having it all to myself may have played a huge part in my sudden confidence boost, and boy, did I enjoy those precious little moments in complete seclusion and privacy as I bathed in my pool, a sea of shimmery blue for a view.
12 Pools Leading Down To The Beach
Not all pavilions come with a private pool, and surely not the hotel suites, but even guests in lower tiers will be spoiled for choice when it comes to swimming spots.
The Alma boasts a whopping 12 pools distributed along a wide corridor, which gravitates towards the beach from the hotel towers and main leisure complex.
The pools are not exactly distinct in nature, with a couple of exceptions. The first on the way down, the one closest to the recreation zone, is one of the largest and surely one of the most impressive, with sheltered sun loungers sitting on both extremes of the crystal-clear lagoon as if floating on water.
The one closest to the beach, where the largest poolside bar and swimwear shop are, is also bustling with activity.
With so many pools to pick from, besides my own private pool, of course, I never felt the need to leave in a hurry every morning to secure a lounger and a spot in the sun.
I spent the most time in the lesser-frequented pools, where I was able to bathe in peace, listen to the gentle ruffling of leaves against the wind, and busy myself with my book without the usual screaming and splashing on water.
If it’s saltwater you’re craving instead, the Alma encompasses an extensive stretch of sandy beach bounded by an azure, pristine ocean, which, unlike other parts of Vietnam, has been kept clean for the delight of guests.
The way down to the beach is lined with cocktail bars, changing rooms, and plenty of toilet facilities, which I appreciated as rushing back to my room anytime I fancied a quick change or grabbing a refresher would have been in the very least challenging, given the scale of the property.
World-Class Attractions
I have probably never seen a five-star resort as well-equipped and with a range of amenities and entertainment venues as wide as The Alma’s.
It has everything you’d expect a gated community to have: a mini market where guests can purchase beauty products or restock their minibar simply by tapping their wristband card against the card reader, varied restaurants on-site, a cinema, an American-style diner, a karaoke bar, a water park, and even a science museum where kids and adults alike can marvel at optic illusions and other entertaining experiments.
To put it simply, The Alma is the complete opposite of boring, and I found myself struggling at times to narrow down which activities were a priority on my to-do list before checking out.
As a cinema enthusiast, I regret that I could not fit a screening session in between my self-care and sunbathing time, but I had a marvelous time letting my inner child run wild, taking turns going down all five towering slides in the water park.
Once I tired myself of all the water play, I gladly retreated to Le Spa, the ultimate wellness center, for an hour-long deep tissue massage that seemed to release all of those knotty muscles I’ve earned from four years traveling as a backpacking digital nomad.
This was preceded by a 20-minute sauna sesh, and followed by some lounging sound-tracked by soothing, indigenous music, as I sampled freshly-brewed tea and eased into the delicious soreness of my post-massage, twisted-and-turned body.
Other non-clinical rituals I promised myself I would try in a future visit included a rejuvenating Collagen Radiance facial, warm stone therapy, foot rubs, and a Thai herbal compress, among others.
And Then There’s All This Food…
If you consider yourself a foodie, the Alma should definitely be added to your Vietnam itinerary. From the minute I stepped out of the buggy into my pavilion to the checkout three days later, the food basically didn’t stop coming, and it absolutely lived up to my not-so-modest gastronomic expectations.
Every day my basket of fruit was re-stocked, and between nibbling away at the complimentary morsels delivered in intervals to my room to gorging in a hearty buffet breakfast with hot dishes, French pastries, and freshly-picked exotic fruits every morning, I sometimes struggled to make room for whole meals at supper.
There are six eateries on site, though some of those would be clumped together in a single Food Court.
Inside, you can find a French bakery displaying fresh pastries and artsy cakes, a Vietnamese restaurant specializing in noodles, a tea shop, a Japanese food truck, and even a ‘Little New York’ where Western-style street food is served.
I sampled a few different things here and there during my three-day sejour, but somehow I kept getting drawn back to the Viet eatery in the Food Court. Once you try their flavorful spicy seafood noodle soup, you’ll understand why.
The two main external restaurants offer Western and Southeast Asian options.
La Casa is headed by a charismatic chef hailing originally from Puglia, and it’s where you’ll find an assortment of fresh pasta and other Italian dishes, while the beachfront Atlantis serves mainly seafood and local specialties.
If you’re staying at the Alma for a long weekend like myself, I would suggest you pay the Atlantis a visit for the first night, as it’s got great ambiance, with tables set in an external patio facing the beach, dimly lit by romantic lights, and the food is traditional Vietnamese with a haute-cuisine twist.
The seafood platter is bountiful and mouth-watering – I can’t tell you how many mini calamari cakes I gobbled in one go – and the accompanying seafood fried rice, made extra crispier with the addition of burnt garlic, was just lovely. Washing it down with ice-cold coconut water felt even better.
On the following evening, you can indulge instead in some classic Mediterranean at La Casa. For a three-course meal, I would recommend a burrata and prosciutto crudo appetizer, followed by a thin-crust pizza – any flavor of your liking – and canoles stuffed with pistachio cream for dessert.
You will probably have a favorite by your third night at the Alma, so you can decide for yourself which restaurant deserves a revisit.
From Our Family To Yours
The Alma is far from being a mere product of unrestricted development: it is giving back to Vietnamese communities and bridging the gap between foreign guests and hard-working locals in a way I couldn’t have foreseen or expected.
They are well aware of the surge in demand for more meaningful experiences and have partnered with local providers to bring guests closer to the local culture, offering a carefully-curated list of day trips and cultural activities.
Keen on understanding the complex dynamics of Vietnamese society, I opted for a cooking class in a traditional family home headed by a Vietnamese matriarch. We set out early in the morning, first stopping in the neighboring town of Cam Ranh, where the narrow streets are busy with trade.
You can find anything on these street markets, from colorful tropical fruits with unpronounceable names to live ducklings.
I was more interested in the fruit than anything else, especially after I realized how cheap dragonfruit is here and how sweet, juicy, and tastier it was compared to the imports we get in Europe.
After picking up a few bargains, we were collected by the driver and journeyed further inland to the rural outskirts of the province, where my cooking instructor awaited.
A stay-at-home mom, Mrs. Sen effortlessly moved around her fully furnished kitchen, reaching for condiments and being quick to fix my cooking mistakes before I got the chance to ruin lunch for all of us.
As you probably know by now, if you followed Travel Off Path during our trip to Israel, I’m not the most skilled cook nor the brightest student in do-it-yourself workshops. Granted, the prawn and noodle-stuffed rice-pacer rolls were quite easy to assemble, and despite being stuffier than usual and having unwrapped within seconds of being rolled in, mine tasted delicious nevertheless.
That’s the beauty of Vietnamese cuisine: no matter how hard you try to spoil it, it will still turn out great in the end.
Downsides
The Alma’s vastness and its endless supply of attractions is precisely what set its apart from other properties in the province, but it can feel like it’s too big of a property at times, especially if you’re looking for something a bit more intimate.
Unless you’re checking yourself into one of the hotel towers, which sit on both sides of the centrally-located leisure complex, you better pack some comfy walking shoes as you’re gonna need them.
From my pavilion, situated on the northern reaches of the resort, to the food court, bars, and entertainment venues, it took me between 10 to 15 minutes of marching every day. On the other hand, I did enjoy the peace and quiet that came with staying at a private pavilion, away from all the action.
Walking the extent of The Alma and taking in the nature along its stepping stone-laden trails down to the beach and the verdant corridors flanked by villas is indisputably part of the experience, and it turned out to be one of my favorite pastimes.
If the weather’s too hot, or you simply don’t fancy the long walk, you can call reception to ask for a buggy to pick you up or find the nearest buggy point near you and wait for the next one to pass by, though I would advise you to plan in advance if your activity is time-sensitive.
Getting to the water park, on the southern edge of The Alma, will almost certainly require a buggy, as the walk there can take up to half an hour or more depending on where in the property you’re staying. Yep, that’s how colossal it is.
Understandably, the WiFi may not be as stable across the entire property, particularly open areas away from the leisure center, but it is fast and reliable once you’re inside the rooms and main buildings, as well as recreational zones.
Regrettably, The Alma’s mobile app, which keeps you in the loop about relevant updates regarding your stay and any special events that may be taking place, was undergoing maintenance and too glitchy to use, but once those minor issues are fixed, I can see how it will further enhance the experience.
How Much Will An Overnight At The Alma Cost?
I have mentioned it a number of times before across my recent Vietnam features, but I still can’t wrap my head around how hugely affordable the country is – that is, when you’re earning dollars, British pounds, or any stable, strong currency.
Your tourist dollars will stretch the furthest here out of any coastal Southeast Asian destination, and the reasonable rates for overnight stays at The Alma is proof of that. With fares for a suite ranging from USD $127 to USD $212 for upcoming dates on Booking.com, it will hardly break the bank.
You won’t have your own pool, private concierge service, or palatial chambers, but you’ll still get the royal treatment and, of course, access to the resort’s world-class amenities.
If you’re feeling inspired and you don’t mind shelling out the dough now that you’ve traveled this far from home, fares for the oceanfront 2-bedroom Ocean View Pavilion start at USD $441. The bigger 3-bedroom, Oceanfront version sells for around USD $930 per night.
Was It Worth It In The End?
Albeit unexpected, my little detour to Cam Ranh and short-lived, experimental peek into the life of the wealthy, privileged few living it up in Vietnam proved an incredibly enriching episode. No pun intended.
It was a great way to see firsthand how fast-developing Vietnam is, beyond the classic rice paddies and rural areas, and how the bustling resort scene here has not only not proven detrimental to communities and their way of life but actively aided in its development.
Whether it’s arranging cooking workshops in a traditional family home, guided visits to flea markets, or other cultural immersions, The Alma is ensuring the wider province reaps the benefits of the tourism surge.
Although it was a short, intermediate stop on my way elsewhere, I actually wouldn’t have minded staying at The Alma a tad longer, so much so that I spent my entire sojourn dreading the moment I would eventually leave.
Travel Off Path was a guest at the Alma Cam Ranh in March 2023 during a month-long press trip in Vietnam. We would like to extend our thanks to the entire management team, and particularly Mrs. Amon (Mildred), Director of Marketing Communications, for her unconditional hospitality, and ensuring our guest experience was nothing short of remarkable.

Mark your calendar people! The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas is set to open on April 27th after being closed for over 2 years due to Covid-19’s crippling effects, ongoing pandemic restrictions, and a recent renovation.
A city that saw 19 million visitors in 2019 alone, is finally returning to its former glory, and the Palms Casino Resort will play a crucial role in that.
The property, which is not located on the strip, but rather just over a mile away, will open its doors once again on April 27. What changed? A lot. For once, the resort took on new ownership under San Manuel, Palms will be the first Las Vegas property to be owned and operated by a Native American tribe.
Another thing travelers can look forward to is a huge renovation that cost over $600 million. Now although many upgrades and changes have been made, much of the property’s unique décor remained untouched. Still, the resort is said to be impeccable.
A remodeled casino floor will have a new game layout that includes slot machines, table games, and more. The layout will resemble spacious “pods” of slots that will enable guests to mingle with friends if they so choose to while giving others plenty of room for social distancing.
Travelers will find themselves with new games and a brand new sportsbook, as well as a new rewards program that travelers can take full advantage of.
If you’re not big on gaming, don’t worry, there are plenty of other upgrades that you can benefit from. The resort currently has 14 movie theaters. Yes, you read that correctly, 14 of them. Now if you’ve been to the Palms Casino Resort in the past you may think to yourself that that in itself is not necessarily new. However, all theaters have been “completely redone” with new reclining seats, and a remodeled lobby.
Restaurants such as Scotch 80 Prime, Mabel’s BBQ by Chef Michael Symon, and Send Noodles will return. In addition to those staple venues, guests will be able to try out a new casual dining option called: Serano Vista Café. American cuisine that resembles a gastro-pub.
Renovations of the Palms began in 2019 and while travelers will be able to indulge themselves with the endless perks the resort has to offer, some parts of the Palms won’t be done just yet.
General Manager Kiser Murphey noted that the property is a work in progress. The iconic Ghostbar, as well as the Pearl Theater, are both expected to reopen this summer.
Travelers can choose between 2 towers and 766 hotel rooms and suites, with bookings available starting as soon as April 28.
Beyond the standard rooms, the Palms will feature several very high-end suites like the Hardwood Suite. This suite has its own black-and-white basketball court, as well as the Kingpin Suite, which welcomes guests to go bowling right in the living room!
If all that sounds a little extravagant, wait until you see the price tags that come with those suites.
The Kingpin Suite is available for $15,000 per night while nightly rates for the Hardwood start at $20,000.
If those rates are a little out of your budget, a great alternative would be the “Ivory King” room. This 440 square feet beauty will set you back around $289 on a Friday or Saturday night.
If even that is a little too much, consider booking during the week when you can find rates as low as $79 per day.
The property will celebrate its reopening with a fireworks show on April 27 and travelers can look forward to a mask-less vacation. The State of Nevada has lifted the mask mandate statewide.
