Why October Is The Undisputed King of Travel Months

October isn’t just about pumpkin spice lattes (though we’re not saying no to those).

It’s about getting more bang for your buck, avoiding the crush, and experiencing destinations in a totally different light.

    • Northern Hemisphere: Trees burst into fiery hues, creating breathtaking backdrops for city strolls and nature hikes. Think crisp air, cozy cafes, and vibrant festivals.
    • Southern Hemisphere: Spring is in full swing, offering pleasant temperatures and blooming landscapes, perfect for outdoor adventures before the summer rush.

This TimeOut-approved list isn’t just a random collection; it’s a thoughtfully curated selection of destinations that truly shine in October.

We’re talking about places where world-famous events collide with incredible scenery, where hidden cultural gems await, and where adventure is just around the corner, often at a fraction of the cost.

    Cathedral Old City Valencia

From Balloon Fiestas To Underwater Wonders: The Choices Are Endless

This isn’t your average “best places to see leaves” list.

These destinations offer truly unique experiences:

    • Sri Lanka: Imagine exploring ancient temples and surfing epic waves as the monsoon season wanes, perhaps even celebrating the vibrant Hindu festival of Diwali.
    • Türkiye: Istanbul’s iconic Hagia Sophia bathed in autumn light, plus the buzz of international film festivals in both Istanbul and Antalya. It’s chic, cultured, and still warm enough for a dip.
    • New Mexico, USA: Witness hundreds of technicolor hot air balloons ascend at the world’s largest balloon festival in Albuquerque, then explore the unique adobe architecture of Santa Fe.
    • Valencia, Spain: This World Design Capital still offers sunshine, stunning futuristic architecture, and modernist barrios perfect for leisurely exploration.
    • New York City, USA: NYC in the fall is iconic, but October brings Halloween to life with the outrageous Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade—a truly unforgettable experience.
    • Philippines: With 7,000 islands, it’s a paradise for divers and foodies alike. Think mind-blowing wreck diving in Coron Bay or savoring mouth-watering Lechon.
    • Bhutan: The world’s only carbon-negative country offers pristine Himalayan nature, clean air, and a uniquely mindful travel experience.
    • Bosnia and Herzegovina: Avoid the summer heat and winter chill, and discover the enchanting, crowd-free old towns of Sarajevo and Mostar in their autumnal glory.
    • Timisoara, Romania: This under-the-radar European gem boasts pastel-painted Art Nouveau architecture, lively jazz bars, and a rich history as Romania’s ‘first free city’ during the 1989 revolution.
    • San Francisco, USA: Enjoy warm, sunny days (yes, really!) and the completely free, non-commercial Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park.
    • Namibia: This rising star destination is home to Africa’s only International Dark Sky Reserve, offering unparalleled stargazing from luxurious new lodges.

  • 😲 Ready To Splurge? The Most Expensive Beach Destination In Mexico Revealed And It Isn’t Cancun

😲 Ready To Splurge? The Most Expensive Beach Destination In Mexico Revealed And It Isn’t Cancun

    [ad_1]

    Last Updated

Looking for a remote Mexican paradise where you can embrace luxury while soaking up sun, sea, and sand?

Then forget the beaches of the Cancun or the jungles of Tulum.

Ready To Splurge The Most Expensive Beach Destination In Mexico Revealed And It Isn’t Cancun

Los Cabos is one of the most sought-after vacation destinations in Mexico. And the most expensive beach destination too.

Here’s why this incredible destination is worth the splurge:

    Soaring Costs In Los Cabos

The Mexican National Index of Tourist Prices has revealed that Los Cabos is currently the most expensive beach destination in Mexico.

To visit Los Cabos, tourists need to have an average of 7,000-9,000 pesos ($425-546) each for their daily expenses, including accommodation.

What’s more, costs for products and services in the resort area have increased by 15% annually compared to other cities in Mexico.

    Land's End Cabo Arch

The 3 elements that have seen the biggest price increases are package tourist services, restaurants and bars, and hotels.

There are 2 reasons why Los Cabos is so pricey for tourists. The first reason is pure practicality. Because Los Cabos is isolated from the rest of the Mexican mainland, it costs more to deliver goods and food.

Secondly, Los Cabos tends to attract more affluent travelers looking for a high-end and luxurious vacation experience, and it is priced to meet this demand.

So is it worth the slurge? We think so!

    Here’s why:

    Beautiful Beaches

One of Los Cabos’s main attractions is its beautiful beaches. Think white sands, turquoise seas, and vast stretches of tropical paradise.

    Beach in Los Cabos

Los Cabos has a whopping 25 Blue Flag beaches, which is a sign of just how clean, pristine, and beautiful the beaches are.

Los Cabos has more Blue Flag beaches than any other destination in Mexico.

Almost every beach in Los Cabos is visually breathtaking, so it’s hard to choose the best ones to visit.

But according to TripAdvisor, some of the most highly regarded beaches in the destination include Chileno Beach, Medano Beach, and Santa Maria Beach.

Scenic panoramic aerial view of Los Cabos

These beaches all offer incredible views and an abundance of water sports and activities, and Santa Maria Beach is considered one of the best for snorkelers and kayakers.

It would be impossible to mention the most beautiful beaches in Los Cabos without sharing that, unlike many other beaches in Mexico, they aren’t plagued by sargassum. You’ll find no stinky seaweed here!

    Exceptional Wellness Opportunities

Los Cabos is well known for the quality and availability of its spa and wellness facilities.

From pampering sessions to yoga retreats, you’ll find an abundance of activities focused on wellness here.

Couple Relaxing By The Poolside In A Los Cabos Resort, Los Cabos, Mexico

Spa Montage is the largest wellness center on the Baja California peninsula, covering an incredible 3,700 square meters, but it is just one of dozens of facilities.

Many tourists visit Los Cabos specifically to splurge on wellness and treatments and to invest in themselves.

From wellness-focused excursions to luxurious self-care amenities, wellness is big business in Los Cabos, and you’ll be spoilt for choice here.

    Iconic Natural Attractions

Perhaps the most well-known and eye-catching landmark in Los Cabos is its natural stone arch.

Known as El Arco, this incredible rock formation sits at the very tip of the peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.

    el arco, los cabos

You can kayak or snorkel here, and it is also a popular location for boat tours.

Los Cabos sits where the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean meet, and the exceptional array of marine life that you’ll find here is also noteworthy.

Think whales, dolphins, and more species of fish than you can imagine.

sierra de la laguna baja california sur mexico

For nature lovers the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains are also well worth exploring.

These beautiful mountains sit at a maximum height of 6,000 feet and are covered with lush pine and oak forests that are perfect for hikers and outdoor adventurers.

Visiting Los Cabos On A Budget

Of course, it is still possible to visit Los Cabos if you don’t want to splurge.

Travelers with a tighter budget could consider visiting in the low season when accommodation prices tend to be more affordable.

You could also save money by opting for a cheaper apartment or self-catering hotel option rather than splurging on an all-inclusive resort.

You don’t need a 5-star hotel to appreciate Los Cabos’s natural beauty, and if you shop around, you’ll find options.

Scenic panoramic aerial view of Los Cabos landmark tourist destination Arch of Cabo San Lucas

Without an all-inclusive plan, you will find that you get out and about more, too. The food across Los Cabos is exceptional and this will give you a chance to embrace the local cuisine.

Los Cabos is known for its exceptional fine dining options.

However, there is a good selection of affordable eateries in Los Cabos that do not break the budget.

Los Cabos is known as a splurge destination, but that doesn’t mean it’s unreachable for those with tighter budgets.

After claiming the crown as one of the world’s most visited countries in 2023, it looks like nothing can stand in France’s way to repeat that feat this year

This romantic and iconic nation holds particular favor with American travelers, as shown in a recent study by luxury tour operator Scott Dunn.

It revealed that 34% of Americans are planning to travel to France in 2024 and that there has been a significant surge in interest and bookings for the country already.

So, where are the most popular places to head in the world’s trendiest country for 2024?

I’m sure you can guess one of them, but here’s the full top 5 to get you in the mood for some ‘Je ne sais quoi’

    5. The French Riviera

This is the place to go for those who love the finer things in life.

The Côte d’Azur is a scenic stretch of beautiful coastline that’s the home of French cinema with gorgeous towns such as Cannes and St. Tropez among its jewels.

It’s one of the most cultural destinations you can visit in France, with many longstanding festivals and traditions throughout the year.

One such example can be found in Menton from February 17 to March 3, where a celebration of citrus fruits takes place in the shape of the Fete du Citron. This year will be its 90th anniversary.

    4. Nice

If you want to get specific about great destinations in the French Riviera, look no further than the capital of the region, Nice.

Close to the border with Italy, this Mediterranean gem is a stunning place to enjoy a day of sun, sightseeing, and evening soirees.

The Cours Saleya market is not to be missed, while the Colline du Chateau affords exceptional views over the old town and the port – it’s a great sunset spot.

    3. The Alps

One of Europe’s premier skiing destinations, the French Alps attracts winter sports fans in their droves each year.

But it’s also a fantastic place to visit in the summer, with exceptional hiking, fishing, and cute mountain towns that just make you want to stay forever.

tour de france cycling race passes a hairpin bend at col du glandon

If you visit in early July, you will get to see some of the toughest men on the planet battle their way through the mountains as part of the world-famous Tour de France cycling race.

    2. Normandy

This coastal region of northern France is a cultural icon.

From the famous Mont-Saint-Michel to the beautiful brickwork of its rural villages, which are famous for cider production – this region is like its own mini culture within a culture.

It’s also the birthplace of impressionism, and 2024 will be the 150th anniversary of the art style.

A special Normandy Impressionist Festival will be running all summer long to celebrate the work and influence of the likes of Edouard Manet and more.

mont saint michel island on the beach in normandy france

2024 will also be a great year to visit Normandy if you’re a history buff.

It’s the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy in the Second World War and a host of events will be taking place between 1-16 June to commemorate it.

    1. Paris

It had to be, didn’t it? It should surprise no one that 77% of those surveyed in this report said that Paris was in their French travel plans, and why not?

The ‘City of Light’ has more than enough to offer to fill a week or two for even the most experienced traveler – world-class museums, an unrivaled café culture, incredible architecture – it’s hard to know where to start.

    Paris Champs Elysees Sunset

Despite all this, many travelers still have a love-hate relationship with Paris, and this year might not help, as prices are expected to soar during the Olympics, which is hosted in the city from July 26 to August 11.

And If None Of Those Take Your Fancy?

This survey also threw up a few popular destinations that just missed out on the top 5 but are well worth considering if you’re planning on taking a trip to France.

They include the cultural seaside metropolis of Marseille, the historic wine region capital of Bordeaux, and the region where the world’s favorite bubbles come from: Champagne.

    Last Updated

As the cost of living continues to rise for Americans, getting to spend a few days or weeks abroad is no longer a guaranteed reward for their hard work but rather a luxury that few can afford to indulge in.

With airfare and accommodation prices reaching all-time highs, travelers are forced to make well-thought-out decisions when it comes to their destination of choice.

The good news is that there are still certain places that can provide visitors with a memorable experience without breaking the bank.

A recent report by The Times has discovered some of the most affordable holiday destinations of 2023.

Woman in Bali in front of temple

These are the countries that made it to the top eight:

    1. Turkey

If you’ve been keeping up to date with the economics section of the paper, you already know that the U.S. dollar has lost some of its buying power due to inflation.

However, there are certain currencies that have lost far more value than the U.S. dollar during this worldwide economic turmoil, one of them being the Turkish Lira.

The same amount of money that could get you 6 Liras two years ago can now get you 27, marking an increase of 350% in your buying power in Turkey.

That’s why some of the country’s most gorgeous destinations, such as Bodrum, Cappadocia, and Istanbul, have seen a steep incline in visitors this year.

Tourists can access 5-star resorts and all-you-can-eat buffets for far cheaper, all while getting to enjoy the stunning nature, sandy beaches, and exquisite food that Turkey is famous for.

    2. Portugal

Portugal, represented by its colorful capital Lisbon, has earned a rightful place on the report by boasting some of the most reasonable prices in all of Western Europe.

With accommodation costs starting at $33 a night, it comes as no surprise that so many tourists are choosing to spend their holidays basking under the Portuguese sun.

And, when it comes to a place that provides its visitors with so much to see and do, such prices offer unbeatable value.

    3. Sri Lanka

If you’re not in the mood to spend your summer roaming through the busy streets of Lisbon, an island getaway might be more up your speed.

Sri Lanka provides just that for hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, many of whom are on a strict budget.

There’s no shortage of world-class beaches here, with some of the most popular being Hiriketiya, Mirissa, and Bentota.

The soft golden sand and crystal clear waters are unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Though there are some safety concerns to take into account before embarking on a trip to Sri Lanka, as long as you take proper measures, you should be able to enjoy a stunning, adventure-filled vacation at a remarkably low price.

    4. The Gambia

The smallest country in mainland Africa has a lot to offer to its hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.

Whether you’re planning on enjoying a beach vacation, observing the wildlife, or experiencing one of the richest cultures in the world, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for in The Gambia.

Though more touristy areas are starting to catch up with the prices of other hotspots around the globe, there’s still a lot to do and see (and eat) here for under $10.

    beach in Gambia

    5. Bali

You’ve seen the Instagram pictures – the stunning nature complemented by luxurious villas that seem to have come right out of a TV show. None of that screams “budget,” so how come Bali made it to this list?

While higher-end accommodations located in busier areas can rack up quite a bill, those strategic enough to choose the right timing and itinerary can still enjoy the paradisical beaches of Kuta or Kelingking without spending more than $50 or $60 a day.

Tropical Beach In Bali, Indonesia, Southeast Asia

    6. Belize

Those wanting to travel a bit closer to home will adore this Central American gem. Don’t let the facade of 5-star resorts and upscale nightclubs fool you – the main attractions of the country are either free or extremely cheap to access.

If you were to visit the Mayan Ruins, see the Great Blue Hole, and sunbathe in San Pedro, all within one day, $25 would be enough to cover everything.

Canoe floating on transparent turquoise water, caribbean sea, Belize, Cayes islands copy

    7. Jamaica

Coming in at number seven we have another Caribbean destination that gives The Maldives a run for their money.

Between accommodation starting at $35 and Jamaican rum being sold at $15/kg, your beach vacation will finally give your wallet a break.

However, as of September 1st of this year, the country is requiring all tourists to complete a new digital entry form in an effort to make the arrival process more seamless, so make sure you get through all the logistics before boarding the plane.

Beach and ocean with cabanas on the sand montego bay jamaica

    8. Bolivia

Though not the typical beach destination, Bolivia can still provide the trip of a lifetime to travelers on a budget.

Between Salar de Uyuni, Lake Titicaca, and Reserva Eduardo Avaroa, you’ll be too busy staring at the one-of-a-kind view in awe to even think about sunbathing.

Since most of the country’s attractions are comprised of natural landscapes, you won’t have to spend a dime to have a great time here.

The average cost of a hotel room in Bangkok is just $51 per night, and other expenses are equally low. You can expect to pay just $3 per meal and 86 cents for a journey on the public transport system.

    Shanghai

Shanghai took the second spot on the list thanks to its vibrant culture and cuisine and abundance of coworking spaces.

Shanghai is an international hub for business, finance, and research which makes it incredibly attractive to some digital nomads.

The internet speed is slightly higher in Shanghai than in Bangkok, but it’s important to note that the Great Firewall of China may make it difficult to access some of the online tools that you’re used to.

You can expect to pay an average of $89 per night for a hotel room, $6 per meal, and 42 cents for a journey on public transport.

    Bucharest

The highest-ranking European city on this list, the capital of Romania, is considered incredibly attractive to digital nomads.

Living and working in Bucharest is easy as the residents of most countries can stay in Romania visa-free for up to 90 days. There is also a dedicated digital nomad visa that allows travelers to stay and work in the country for up to a year.

You can expect to pay an average of $81 per night for a hotel room, $11 per meal, and 67 cents for a journey on public transport.

    Hanoi

With the average price of a hotel room in Hanoi sitting at just $41 per night, this is the city with the cheapest accommodation on the list. You will also pay just $2 for a meal and 30 cents for a public transport journey.

This makes Hanoi the most affordable city for digital nomads, with estimated monthly living costs of just under $1,700.

Hanoi is working hard to attract digital nomads right now and is setting itself up to compete with other digital hubs in Southeast Asia, such as Bangkok and Singapore.

    Tokyo

Tokyo tops the charts as the digital nomad hub with the most things to do. That is not surprising given the huge size of the city. There are more than 12,600 attractions to enjoy in Tokyo.

Accommodation here is expensive. You can expect to pay an average of $183 per night, which is cheaper only than Dubai on the list of digital nomad destinations.

While there isn’t currently a dedicated digital nomad visa available in Japan, the Japanese government is considering implementing one.

    Krakow

Krakow is considered the second-best city in Europe for digital nomads. Accommodation here is slightly more expensive than in Bucharest, but meals are slightly cheaper.

Wawel Castle during the Day, Krakow, Poland

That makes Krakow an affordable hub where digital nomads can live on a relatively low income. Internet speeds are mid-range as standard, but there are plenty of hubs available if you want to work collaboratively or need access to faster internet.

    Calgary

Calgary is the city with the fastest average internet speed of all the cities analyzed. Digital nomads can enjoy internet speeds of 322 MB/s here.

Calgary might not be the most affordable city on this list but is ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world, and it is also safe with excellent social opportunities.

What’s more, the introduction of the new Canadian digital nomad visa is sure to make it even easier to live and work in Calgary as a digital nomad.

Top Global Destinations For Remote Working Revealed

The best destinations around the world for remote working have been revealed following a study. Travel wasn’t the only thing to change significantly as a result of the pandemic, with the way in which we work also undergoing a facelift courtesy of strict policies such as lockdowns and stay at home orders. As a result of these policies, now more and more people are choosing to work from home where possible – with some even electing to work from a different country altogether.

Taking into account a range of different factors, from a country’s digital infrastructure to its economic and social conditions, a definitive list of the best places to work remotely has been created by NordLayer – and it might just inspire you to take the plunge and book those tickets. Here’s a look at the list of the top global destinations for remote working, plus a look at the methodology behind how it was calculated.

Top Destinations Revealed – Information For Travelers

The study into which destinations around the world are the best choices for remote workers was completed by the network access security company NordLayer. Officially titled the Global Remote Work Index, it analyzed destinations across several key metrics, including safety, internet quality, tourism attractiveness, cost of living and English proficiency. Each country was then assigned an index score, which were used to rank countries. A total of 66 countries were included in the study in total, providing travelers with remote work on their minds with plenty to digest.

Taking top spot in the Global Remote Work Index was Germany. The European economic powerhouse scored an unbeatable 0.824 on the index altogether, with notable highlights including the country’s impressive cyber security and economic and social conditions. Whilst it’s cost of living was amongst the higher side of the table and its internet quality and prices might put some travelers off, its high English proficiency, investment in education and healthcare and tourism attractiveness ratings were enough to see it crowned #1.

Second place went to another European nation, Denmark, with an index score of 0.816. Whilst being one of the most expensive countries on the list might prove unpopular with prospective remote workers, Denmark ranked in the top 10 in various categories such as internet quality, e-infrastructure and global health coverage – all of which are key things for remote workers. Offering a high quality of living coupled with a high cost of living, Denmark is a destination many may want to consider – but it might not be a hit for those looking to save.

The bronze medal went to the US, with an overall index score of 0.809. The  US scored highly in key metrics such as economic and social conditions, digital and physical infrastructure and Covid-19 handling – where it came out on top overall. Low cyber security rankings and a high cost of living might put many remote workers off the idea of moving to the states, however it does offer travelers a high quality of living – which is one of the reasons many consider remote working in the first place.

Spain came in fourth place with a score of 0.796, citing good cyber security performances, a more affordable cost of living than many destinations and the best tourism attractiveness rating out of any of the countries included in the index. Fifth place went to Lithuania, narrowly behind Spain with a score of 0.794. Lithuania boasts the second highest cyber security rating and third most affordable internet, though its quality is far behind some of its peers. Not the most glamorous location, Lithuania offers remote workers the opportunity to save money and conduct their work with peace of mind.

The top 10 countries in the Global Remote Work Index are as follows:

    1. Germany
    2. Denmark
    3. U.S.
    4. Spain
    5. Lithuania
    6. Netherlands
    7. Sweden
    8. Estonia
    9. Singapore

The top trending vacation destinations around the world have been revealed. By calculating the increases in search volume for travel destinations on the popular social media site Pinterest, trend experts WeThrift have worked out which destinations around the world are trending amongst travelers and could be set to welcome huge crowds this summer. Here’s a look at the top trending destinations – and what you need to be able to visit.

Top Trending Destinations – Information For Travelers

    Porto

Research carried out by WeThrift found that Porto, Portugal was the top trending destination in the world, with a 62% increase in searches on Pinterest.

A quintessential European weekend break destination, the colorful riverside town is more than worth a trip for any traveler, with millions flocking there to enjoy its famous pastries and traipse around its cobbled streets. To enter Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery, or a negative Covid-19 test result (taken within 72 hours for PCR tests or 48 hours for rapid antigen tests).

    Corfu

Close behind Porto was the Greek island of Corfu, which had a 61% increase in search volume. With its pristine coastline, dramatic sheer rock faces, deep blue sea – and not to mention fresh, healthy cuisine – it’s easy to see why Corfu looks set to be a hit this summer. It’s also extremely easy to visit, with Greece having removed all of its Covid-19 related entry requirements.

    Lake Como

With a 44% increase in searches, Italy’s spectacular Lake Como is the third most trending destination. With views of the huge, sprawling lake long since dominating the social media pages of travel bloggers and pages alike, it seems as though all that daydreaming of escaping to Como during lockdown is set to come true this summer. Like with Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative Covid-19 test result in order to be able to enter.

    Mallorca

Known for its beaches, Spanish architecture, and wineries, the Spanish island of Mallorca is trending with a 35% increase in searches. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca’s charms have been wooing Europeans for decades, and is now firmly in the crosshairs of travel-starved people the world over. Travelers to Spain must be fully vaccinated – with a booster if the latest shot was taken more than nine months ago. The country recently made changes to allow unvaccinated travelers to enter with a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 24 hours.

    Mykonos

The second Greek island to feature on the list, it seems travelers have been dreaming posing amongst a backdrop of traditional blue and white Greek buildings once more. Searches for Mykonos rose 32%, with the island equally as popular with young people embracing the party side of then as it is with families looking for a more laid-back experience.

Few cities are as breathtaking as Istanbul – an opinion clearly shared by the masses as it received a 26% increase in searches. The city has it all; from the historical remnants of empires gone by littered all over the city, to a thriving nightlife scene – not to mention sprawling bazaars, passionate locals and stunning views – Istanbul is worthy of a place on any traveler’s list. Fully vaccinated travelers with proof don’t need to test before entering, whilst unvaccinated travelers must show either a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 48 hours.

Having long since established itself as a firm favorite amongst travelers the world over, the most famous party island in the world looks set to go back into full swing this summer, with interest in Ibiza soaring by 26%. Like Mykonos, there’s more to their island than its clubs, with the north end proving to be much calmer and its beautiful beaches catering to all types of traveler.

    Ibiza Party Boat

With the vast majority of Thailand’s entry hurdles now removed, the wildly popular destination is back in business. Searches for Phuket – the country’s largest and most popular island – rose by 26%, with travelers keen to explore the nightlife of Patong or scenic beaches of Rawai, Kata and Nai Harn once more. All travelers to Thailand must have a Thailand Pass, which can be applied for here – but it looks as if this requirement could be on its way out over the next few weeks.

A recent study has revealed the top domestic destinations in the US for travelers to visit this coming summer. With the cost of both international air travel and hotel bookings abroad reaching expensive new highs over the past few weeks, domestic travel around the US is the perfect way to enjoy a great trip without having to worry too much about how to afford it – and there’s still so much that destinations at home have to offer travelers.

Whether heading to big cities or charming towns, or to breaks by the beach or in the country, travelers in the US are blessed to have so many options on their doorsteps – and so many different ways of reaching them. Here’s a look at which destinations made the cut to be crowned some of the top options for travelers this summer, plus a closer look into how the list was curated.

Top Domestic Destinations – Information For Travelers

The study into which domestic destinations are the best for US travelers this summer was conducted by the personal finance company WalletHub. The company developed a ranking system that took into account a range of different metrics such as travel costs, the attractions a destination has to offer, what the weather will be like, the safety of the destination and how expensive it is.

The study was wide-ranging in its scope, with a  total of 100 of the largest metro areas in the US being assessed across the 43 different metrics in order to determine which destination is the top one for travelers this summer. Once the study was complete, it was the metropolitan area of Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford in Florida that came out in first place – just one of several destinations in Florida to feature in the top 20 of the list.

Orlando took the top spot with a score of 69.97 according to WalletHub’s index. The city’s impressive range of activities – notably Disney World and Universal Studios – saw it take top spot when ranked on activities alone, whilst it also performed strongly in the safety and attractions metric. Other Florida destinations that performed well included Tampa in third place, Miami-Fort Lauderdale in 11th and Jacksonville in 14th spot.

For travelers looking to save on travel expenses, Santa Rosa in California was judged to be the destination with the lowest costs and fewest hassles, with Cincinnati, Ohio and Minneapolis, Minnesota close behind. In terms of saving money when you get there, McCallen, Texas was found to be the cheapest destination, with Tulsa, Oklahoma and Augusta, Georgia the second and third cheapest respectively.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was Honolulu that came top when it came to the best weather – making it the perfect destination for travelers looking for a beach getaway. The survey found that Chicago was the top destination in terms of attractions, with Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, and San Francisco also cited as cities with a lot to offer, making them ideal spots for those who like to get out and about and seize the day on their vacations.
