Airbnb has revealed its summer travel trends, including a comprehensive list of the U.S. destinations that are currently surging in popularity.

Some of these trending hot spots were to be expected, while others have come as a big surprise!

Here are the top 10:
1. Santa Rose Beach, Florida
2. Rosemary Beach, Florida
3. Saint Paul, Minnesota
4. Broken Bow, Oklahoma
5. Eugene, Oregon
5. Ouray, Colorado

Ouray has been named as the Outdoor recreation capitol of Colorado and the rugged mountain peaks that surround the town often mean that it is called ‘Little Switzerland’.

This is the perfect place to enjoy a European-style vacation without leaving the U.S.

If you love spending time in the great outdoors then there are few better places to be.

Hiking is popular here as is kayaking and exploring the creeks that flow down through valleys and canyons into the city.

If you’d prefer a more relaxing vacation, then Ouray is also famed for its hot springs.

These geothermal heated mineral pools range in temperate from 75 – 104 degrees F (23 – 40 C) meaning that they can be comfortably enjoyed year-round, and are an experience that attracts visitors from across the U.S.

4. Glendale, Arizona

Glendale is renowned for its incredible array of hiking trails, its historic attractions, and its state-of-the-art sporting facilities.

It’s considered an affordable destination to visit while still being cram-packed with entertainment.

See a concert at the Desert Diamond Arena, enjoy the natural preserves of Thunderbird Conservation Park, or head to the Westgate Entertainment District, the biggest entertainment area in Arizona.

With so much to see and do, it’s no wonder that this destination is trending right now.

3. Las Vegas, Nevada

Viva, Las Vegas! Already one of the premier vacation destinations in the U.S. Las Vegas is trending for this summer.

This should come as no surprise as summer is consistently the most popular time to visit Vegas thanks to its dry, hot, heat and abundant activities. And we’re not just talking about the casinos.

There are more families in town at this time of year, which explains the larger visitor numbers, but despite this, accommodation tends to be cheaper in Vegas in the summer months. You’re sure to find somewhere to stay that suits your budget.

According to Airbnb, traveling for huge sporting events is a key trend this summer. One reason Las Vegas is trending is that travelers are looking for properties near America’s Soccer Tournament.

This is another factor in the popularity of Glendale, Arizona, too.

2. Columbia, South Carolina

Columbia is the capital city of South Carolina, and the 2nd largest city in the state. There’s so much to see and do here.

One of America’s best zoos, the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens, is located in Columbia, not to mention a huge number of museums and monuments.

The downtown area of the city has recently been revitalized, but there is still an abundance of historic sites for history buffs. These include the Robert Mills House and Gardens, the Mann-Simons site, and the Hampton-Preston Mansion and Gardens.

Columbia is also one of the more affordable state capitals for U.S. travelers, which explains why the destination is trending so highly right now.

1. Quincy, Washington

The fastest-trending destination in the U.S. right now is Quincy, Washington.

Chosen as one of the best small towns in Washington State, Quincy is a must-visit destination for outdoor adventurers.

During the summer months boating, water skiing, hunting, and fishing are all popular pastimes here.

Quincy is also home to the Gorge Ampitheater which is considered one of the most scenic concert locations in the world, making it a huge attraction for tourists, particularly during the summer months.

Many will plan their vacation time around the concert they want to see at the Gorge Amphitheater, with upcoming concerts including the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Blink 182, and Dave Matthews. The Gorge Amphitheater attracts big names.

The three trendiest destinations in Italy right now are not the places you might expect.

You won’t find Rome, Florence, or Venice on the list of the fastest-growing destinations in Italy.

Based on a recent study, there are three particular regions of Italy that are rising to the top for tourism in 2024.

Many of these regions are already popular among Italians but remain under the radar for Americans and other foreign tourists.

Below you’ll find out what the trendiest destinations in Italy are, plus tips for the best time to visit.

Overall, this year is expected to be a record-setting one for tourism in Italy, but the following destinations are predicted to see the most growth.

1. Sardinia

The destination in Italy that’s rising the fastest right now is Sardinia.

This large island in the Mediterranean has long been a popular summer escape for Italians, but it’s just beginning to be discovered by American travelers.

Sardinia is home to some of the top beaches in all of Europe, with Tuerreda Beach being named among the best. While it’s primarily a beach destination, there are other things to do in Sardinia, including hiking and discovering the island’s small towns and villages.

Basically, this is the perfect destination for beach bums and nature lovers!

Since Sardinia is a popular summer destination, I recommend avoiding it during the peak months of July and August. The best time to visit Sardinia for lower crowds is late September and even early October.

At this time of year, the sea is still warm enough to swim in after being heated during the long, hot summer, but the majority of the crowds have gone.

2. Puglia

Another trending destination in Italy right now is Puglia.

If you look at a map of the country, Puglia is the heel of the boot of Italy.

This southern region is less visited by foreign tourists mainly because it’s not as well connected by trains as the larger cities.

Renting a car is your best bet for exploring Puglia, but it’s worth it!

This underrated region has gorgeous beaches as well as beautiful historical towns like Alberollo, famous for its trulli, whitewashed stone houses with cone-shaped roofs.

Puglia is the number one vacation destination in Italy for Italians themselves, so it’s hardly a hidden gem — you just won’t find many American tourists there yet.

Much like Sardinia, I would recommend waiting until the fall to visit Puglia for far fewer crowds and milder weather since summer can be scorching. May is also a lovely time to visit.

3. Campania

Finally, Campania is another region in Italy that is expected to grow in popularity this year.

Campania is a region in southern Italy, and its largest city is Naples.

You’re probably already familiar with another famous destination in Campania: the Amalfi Coast.

This stunning stretch of coastline is a coveted destination among travelers, known for its beautiful cliffside villages, great beaches, and dramatic vistas.

Although the Amalfi Coast is gorgeous, it’s very expensive. I personally prefer the underrated island of Ischia, a one-hour ferry ride from Naples.

When is the best time to visit Campania?

It depends on where you’re going. Naples is a large city with over a million people, so it’s a year-round destination, along with nearby Pompeii, which is a popular day trip.

On the Amalfi Coast and islands like Ischia, Capri, and Procida, summer is peak season, and during the winter many hotels, restaurants, and shops close.

I recommend visiting in late May to beat the summer crowds or waiting until after they’ve dissipated and coming during mid to late September.

If you’re looking to make your Pittsburgh trip extra budget-friendly, you’ll be happy to know that places like the Carnegie Museum offer heavily discounted tickets for students and seniors.

Admission is entirely free on the first consecutive Saturday and Sunday of every month, so try to time your visit accordingly.

One Of The Safest Cities In The Country

Not only does Pittsburgh offer excellent value for the money, but it’s also one of the safest cities you can visit in all of North America, which, let’s face it, is any destination’s biggest selling point.

OK, so I’m not really a fan of the “destination dupe” trend going around right now since every place has its unique charm and character, but Pittsburgh truly is kind of like a smaller, cheaper, safer San Francisco, so if that’s a city you’ve wanted to visit for a while now, considering Pittsburgh instead might work in your favor.

The Pennsylvanian hub boasts the same “hilly tech town” vibe and forward-thinking industries that make San Francisco so fascinating.

These Are The Top 3 Most Popular Destinations In Italy According To Locals

With its Tuscan sunsets, UNESCO-listed Renaissance cities, turquoise coast, and award-winning cuisine, which currently ranks number one in the world, Italy is the quintessential Southern European experience and every American’s dream destination.

Interestingly, while we tend to flock to Rome, Florence, Venice and the like, drawn to their monument-packed historic centers and invaluable cultural heritage, and understandably so, Italians themselves have other destinations in mind.

Based on a new study published by Vamonos Vacanze, a tour operator based in Rome, in partnership with Icrm, a lesser-known region on Italy’s sunny Adriatic side is in fact the leading tourist hotspot for domestic tourists in 2024, followed by two Mediterranean islands.

So why are these local favorites, and what are Americans who haven’t yet explored Italy beyond the Venetian canals or the overtouristed Amalfi missing out on?

As the famous travel saying goes, ‘go where the locals go‘:

Sardinia

The third most popular destination for Italians is Sardinia, concentrating 10% of all domestic tourism.

A large island in the Mediterranean, it boasts almost 1,242 miles of pristine coastline and a sparsely-populated hinterland traversed by mountain ranges.

Italians love Sardinia for how distinct it feels from the mainland: it has its own ‘Sardo’ language, a unique culture, and rich cuisine, best represented by signature dishes like fregula cun còciula (a type of pasta that’s only found on the island served with clams) and su porcheddu (roasted suckling pig).

Sardinian autonomy stems from being geographically isolated, as it was historically disconnected from the mainland, so in many ways, it almost feels like a separate country, though everything tourists would expect of an Italian island getaway can be found here:

Sandy beaches hugged by a teal-colored sea, rugged hikes, ancient towns nestled atop limestone hills, and even a culturally-charged regional capital in Cagliari, a bustling port city built across seven hills, as Roman city-building dictated.

Top attractions in the island include the nuraghi, a series of Bronze Age stone ruins resembling beehives that date back thousands of years, the pale-sand ‘White Queen’ beach, the colorful riverside town of Bosa, where building facades are painted in bright colors, and the walled Alghero.

Sicily

Italy’s second best-loved destination, attracting 11% of Italians, and the largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily is similar to Sardinia in many ways, having developed a clear dialect, gastronomy, and a culture that’s markedly different from that of mainland Italy.

It’s been heavily influenced by foreign powers over the centuries, having lived through consecutive periods of Greek, Roman, Arabic, and even Spanish domination.

Other than being jam-packed with heritage sites, the ace up its sleeve is its breathtaking nature.

It is home to Mount Etna, the tallest volcano in Europe, and an active one at that, with its occasional spewing of ash providing an unlikely backdrop for the sprawling urban chaos that is Catania, a large city concentrating some of Italy’s most exuberant Baroque art.

We could write a whole feature article on Sicily and all its architectural gems and natural wonders, but you’re eager to scroll down to the bottom of this page to find out what’s number one, our four best Sicilian spots are:

Palermo, a vibrant capital teeming with busy street markets, Taormina, the White Lotus-featured, iconic hilltop comune best known for its Greco-Roman theater, the Valley of the Temples, a Hellenic complex that rivals the Parthenon in beauty, and the terracotta-roofed, whitewashed Cefalù.

Puglia

With 13% of Italians claiming this is their favorite holiday destination, Apulia (most commonly known by its Italian name Puglia) is officially Italy’s darling, even though it is largely overlooked by foreign visitors, who flock instead to the Amalfi Coast on the opposite side of the peninsula.

Puglia is what we’d call the heel of Italy, referring to the country’s boot-like shape, and it’s characterized by its whitewashed towns, hugged by a rugged Adriatic shoreline, and impressive wealth of Baroque monuments.

Lecce, one of the Puglia gems Italians love best, is called ‘Florence of the South’ for a reason, with its ornate duomo and winding Roman-era streets; Alberobello, on the other hand, is distinct for its distinctive trulli, Puglian houses topped with conical roofs.

In Polignano a Mare, a white-pebble beach flanked by low cliffs awaits vacationers, while in Bari, the metropolitan capital and cultural heart of Puglia, the ocher-colored winding alleys of the Old Town and picture-perfect hidden courtyards make the trip worthwhile.

According to the survey, 13% of Italians will pick Puglia over any other Italian destination, and it’s not like it doesn’t face tough competition from other regions: I mean, this is probably Europe’s most historically-charged nation, literally littered with both manmade and natural wonders.

We’re normally suspicious of unofficial surveys ourselves, however…

Based on the fact that this one derives from a sample of 4,000 individuals, equally split between men and women, aged 18-65 and distributed across Italy, and how Italian families have always chosen the Adriatic side over American-ridden Amalfi, we’re inclined to say it paints a pretty accurate picture.

These Are The Top 5 Destinations For Digital Nomads In Spain For Under $3,000 A Month

Spain may well be one of the top countries for digital nomads, but unlike its Iberian sibling Portugal or the budget-friendly Balkans, it is not exactly known for being ultra-cheap to live in.

Inflation is rising, and prices for long-term accommodation are quite high.

Still, nomads flock to it for the quality of life and sunny climate, and little do they know they don’t need to spend over $1,300 on one-bedroom rentals in central Barcelona or set themselves back $80 per meal staying in eye-wateringly expensive Ibiza to live their best Spanish life.

Opting for these five cheaper yet just as incredible destinations instead, they get the same lovely weather and lively social scene while keeping it under $3,000 a month:

Granada

Granada is a major cultural center in Andalusia, a region of Spain that is as widely known for its balmy winters as it is for its rich Muslim heritage.

Though not many Americans would know this, this part of Spain was seized and ruled by caliphs originating from North Africa for centuries.

Tucked away deep in the Andalusian mountains, Granada was one of the most important Muslim cities of Iberia.

Today, its monumental Alhambra Fortress, Moorish-style gardens, and whitewashed Old Town are recognized as invaluable World Heritage Sites.

As a nomad destination, Granada offers lingering visitors a selection of work-friendly cafeterias, open green spaces for unwinding, ‘great’ levels of safety, and most importantly, living costs under three grand a month (more specifically, an acceptable $2,927).

Mallorca

The largest island of the Balearic archipelago, Mallorca has been a popular sunny getaway for decades now, with coastal spots like Magaluf, Europe’s very own ‘Cancun’, the luxury yacht hub of Port de Sóller, and culturally-charged Palma drawing in millions of visitors every year.

Unbeknown to some, however, Palma can be incredibly affordable for digital nomads, especially if they’re living like locals, in residential zones where there’s not a Brit or German visitor in sight, and local restaurants serve delicious, homecooked seafood paellas for $14.

Believe it or not, you can live comfortably in this subtropical paradise, surrounded by turquoise waters, renting a modest room in an untouristy area, and eating locally-sourced, fresh fruit on the daily, for around $2,641 per month.

Menorca

Mallorca’s smallest, lesser-known sister, Menorca, is a 99,000-people-strong island famous for its abundance of unspoiled white-sand beaches, vineyard-dotted hinterland, where some of the best Spanish wine is produced, and cobbled Mediterranean settlements with lost-to-time origins.

If it’s some culture you’re craving, you’ll want to base yourself in the ‘Citadel‘, a charming harbor town with a preserved old quarter and numerous rustic cafes hosting remote workers.

Looking for the modern, palm-lined boardwalks and youthful atmosphere instead?

Trendy Mahón is your preferred port of call.

Overall, it costs $2,527 to live in Menorca, with lower prices observed for both food and accommodation away from the resort-packed eastern coast: there are long-term rentals in the market starting from $756 monthly and restaurant meals can be pretty inexpensive, too, averaging $15.

Fuerteventura

A tiny Spanish island part of the Canaries archipelago, lying off the African mainland, Fuerteventura is characterized by arid landscapes, laid-back, undisturbed coastal villages interconnected by scenic dirt roads, and long miles of golden sands fringed by a bright-blue Atlantic.

It is somewhere digital nomads would go to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities and slow down for a while, as it is not as popular as the far larger resort islands of Gran Canaria or Tenerife, and the largest settlement on this island (Puerto del Rosario) has only 43,000 residents.

Remote as it may be, keeping costs down is unlikely to be your primary concern relocating to Fuerteventura for the slow-paced life and quaintness: it is one of Spain’s most affordable nomad havens, with living costs totaling $2,046 monthly.

Gran Canaria

Canary Islands for the win:

Gran Canaria is variously described as the Island of Eternal Spring, the LGBT capital of Spain, and Europe’s go-to spot for all-inclusives under $1,000.

These are all true and sound appealing enough, but when it comes to digital nomadism specifically, there’s so much more going unnoticed.

Did you know, for instance, that regional capital La Palma boasts a high concentration of coworking spots, or that despite the rural character of its hinterlands, foreigner-friendly services are widely available, the internet is super fast regardless of location, and expenses total roughly $1,763 per month?

Additionally, as the Canary archipelago is located off the coast of East Africa, miles away from the European mainland, in a different subclimate, it is typically warm year-round, with temperatures rarely dropping below 75.2°F throughout the year.

Unless you already have tickets or are a huge sports fan, Paris is best avoided between July and August this year.

Given the long flight time between the U.S. and Japan, not to mention the costs involved in airfare between the two countries, it is a big surprise that Tokyo is so popular right now.

But Tokyo’s unique cultural experiences, diverse range of activities, and position in modern pop culture mean that people just can’t get enough of it right now.

Some of the must-visit attractions in the country include the Meiji Jingu Shrine, strolling around Ueno Park, or exploring the electronic wonderland of Akihabara.

The yen has dropped to a 34-year low against the dollar.

An Unexpected Drop

Perhaps another surprise is that Cancun has dropped into 6^th place on the list.

America is by far the most popular country of origin among international air passengers to Mexico in general and Cancun in particular. 4.2 million Americans visited the region in 2023.

As long as there is still sand on the beaches, Americans will continue to head to Cancun in their droves. The number of air links between the two countries are considerable and flights tend to be affordable too.

So why has the city dropped to be the 6^th most popular for American travelers when it was in 2^nd place last year? One thought is that some American tourists feel anxious about visiting Mexico right now due to reports of crime and warnings from the U.S. government.

In response to these concerns, the Mexican authorities have increased police and military presence in the city.

And crime rates in Cancun remain low, making it one of the safest resort cities in Mexico.

The Croatian Tuscany

Cavtat lies along a scenic coastline just 11 miles from Dubrovnik, one of the most accessible hubs in the country.

However, Cavtat is actually closer to the airport, which makes it an even more convenient getaway.

Away from the hustle and bustle, this gorgeous town is a place to enjoy the simple pleasures of life à la Tuscany.

Rates through summer are as low as $102 per night, which is a steal of a deal for resorts of this magnitude.

5-star stays are not the only viable option, of course. There are plenty of mid-tier accommodations along with charming villas, but who wouldn’t want to level up at these prices?

Incredible Beaches

It would be hard to find a traveler going to Croatia without mentioning the gorgeous blue waters in this region of the world.

There are ample boat tours as well providing even better views of the than you see from the shoreline.

While the views are never tired to gaze upon, the beaches may be even more enjoyable to go for a swim, snorkeling and even cliff jumps for the more daring adventurers.

Zal is the largest beach with calm waters that are perfect for taking a dip, but those seeking even more seclusion may want to opt for Sustjepan Beach, which is walkable from the town center.

And there’s one beach north of town where beachgoers can, let’s just say go “full Euro” and may find it to be extra breezy.

Historic Sites

Despite being an unsuspecting beachside town, Cavtat is not only known for its laid-back lifestyle and stunning nature of crystal blue waters and scenic mountains.

Tourists can peruse local artisan shops along the scenic waterfront promenade or pay a visit to the Old Town district for more historical sites, such as the Bukovac House Museum.

Local eateries have rave reviews, not only for the quality of their food offerings but also for being the perfect place to watch picturesque sunsets.

While it may seem odd to visit a cemetery on vacation, one of the top-rated attractions on TripAdvisor is the oddly placed Cavtat Cemetery—one of the best viewpoints of the city and even offers tours.

This Is The Top Cultural Destination In The Mexican Caribbean Right Now

With a recorded history spanning at least two millennia, from the mystical Mayans to the period of Spanish colonization, Mexico is a treasure trove of ancient wonders.

Lucky for Americans, it’s a short three-to-four-hour flight away.

This is still a vast country with an incredibly diverse tourist offer we’re talking about, and if you’ve been dreaming of embarking on a cultural immersion this year while also basking in the Mexican sun, this historically-charged coastal town is where it’s at:

Tulum Is The Number One Cultural Destination In Mexico In 2024

According to a recent study conducted by the Mexican National Institute for Anthropology & History, Tulum is the absolute leader in cultural tourism in Mexico by the sheer volume of visitors, beating Teotihuacán, near Mexico City, Chichén Itzá and Cobá to the number one spot.

Unlike other archaeological zones in Mexico, the ruins at Tulum are not located in a remote area you can only get to with a car or tour group: it is a short 1.8-mile walk from Downtown Tulum to the entrance of the archaeological complex, which is administered by the municipality itself.

While Teotihuacán is commonly associated with the Mexican capital, it sits outside city limits a whole 29 miles away; Chichén Itzá is no different, seeing that the closest town nearby is Valladolid, and that’s still a 30 to 40-minute drive depending on traffic.

If exploring Mayan ruins is at the top of your Mexico bucket list, followed by some quality time at the beach, then there is surely no better place to come as Tulum combines both, and the numbers don’t lie: so far this year, the historical zone recorded over 200,000 visitors.

Why Is Tulum Special?

One of the reasons why Tulum is so special is how fairly young it is compared to much older Mayan settlements: it was only established between the 14th and 15th centuries AD and abandoned almost a century following the first Spanish incursions into Mexican territory.

This means a majority of the buildings on site are extremely well-preserved, did not suffer from pillaging as much as other Mayan hubs of its time did, and offer a precious insight into what life in the Mayan civilization looked like in the dawn of European colonization.

Plus, it’s just downright gorgeous: if you’ve ever wondered where you could see that postcard view of an old temple resting on a cliff-top, overlooking powder-white sands and turquoise waters below, look no further as Tulum is where it is located.

The fact that new temples that had previously been off-limits are now accessible, more sections of the archaeological zone are being revitalized, and a new Frida Kahlo Museum is coming are all equally great news for history and art aficionados.

Has Tulum’s Cultural Value Been Overlooked All Along?

Sitting on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Tulum is no hidden gem waiting to be discovered: it’s been a hugely populal resort destination for years, largely due to its highly-developed beachfront, packed with five-star resorts and luxurious villas.

It’s also developed a reputation for being the entertainment capital of the Mexican Caribbean, with beach clubs galore and a bar-lined Highway 307 attracting young revelers from all over the world, and particularly bachelor/bachelorette partygoers.

Considering Cancun’s infamy as a party zone, perhaps you may find it surprising that it currently ranks as the number one cultural hotspot in Mexico, beating a vibrant Mexico City and its multicultural districts, the walled city of Merida, and even the charming Spanish colonial outpost Guanajuato.

Tulum isn’t exactly unheard-of, as we mentioned already, but it is certainly underrated on the culture front, as beyond the jungle raves and the gentrified coast, you will find one of the most prominent Mayan ruins of the Mexican Caribbean, crystal-clear cenotes shrouded in mystery and artsy museums.

You Can Fly Nonstop To Tulum From The States

Additionally, it is one of the most accessible cultural getaways in Mexico, as it is set to host nonstop flights from 9 cities in the U.S. beginning this month, and it’s an official stop on the Maya Train route.

The Maya Train brings tourists from Cancun to other destinations in the Mayan Riviera and beyond, and though service to Tulum has not yet formally launched, the train should be up and running at some point this summer, as confirmed by local authorities.

From a colorful Latin America, to deeply-historical Europe, to mystical Asia, there is a whole mapa mundis of options to pick from, and if you’re looking to get inspired, Tripadvisor‘s latest compilation of bucket-list cultural destinations might be a good place to start.

To our fellow culture buffs out there, these are the top five spots to visit in 2024:

Athens, Greece

Fifth on the list, Athens is capital of Greece and a sprawling metropolis with a History spanning over 3,400 years. Cradle of Western civilization, the birthplace of democracy, and the proud home of the ancient Parthenon, it is easily one of the world’s most culturally-charged cities.

Without question, the most striking feature and main point of interest in Athens is Acropolis Hill, atop which sits the Parthenon itself and a number of other temples that have stood the test of time, offering a glimpse into civil and religious life in Ancient Greece.

Other than admiring the hilltop monuments, as well as the view of the modern city of Athens from above, tourists can get lost in the cobbled streets of Plaka, with its whitewashed churches and gyros restaurants, or go shopping for quirky trinkets in traditional a Greek flea market off Monastiraki Square.

Outside the medina, Fes is a rapidly-developing city tallying over a million residents, split between historic Muslim quarters, and French-built sectors, with wide, leafy boulevards, upscale restaurants and a distinctively European feel.

Agra, India

The only Asian destination to make the list, Agra is a medium-size Indian hub – by Indian standards – lining the banks of the Yamuna river, and boasting a high concentration of landmarks, from the iconic Taj Mahal to the ornate Akbar Tomb to the sandstone Agra Fort.

Though a majority of tourists will spend only a day in Agra, mainly for the perfect Taj Mahal picture, it is not somewhere you want to rush through, as this is an exciting city with plenty to offer on the cultural front and one of India’s best-renowned food meccas.

Mughlai cuisine is famous for its colorful spices and creamy curries, and simply wandering around the complex warren of interconnected streets lined by food stalls and bustling markets, you’ll come across unique scents and flavors that surpass the reaches of Western comprehension.

Cusco, Peru

Nestled in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, Cusco is one of the oldest settlements in the Americas, best known for its Incan-Hispanic heritage and UNESCO-listed Old Town, dotted with Baroque monuments and Mesoamerican archaeological sites.

The central Plaza de Armas was founded by the Spanish upon their conquest of the city, and it’s remained a lively square and center of commerce well into the modern era, dominated by a towering cathedral that replaces a much-older Incan palace dating back to the 13th-century.

Other than exploring the cobbled lanes lined by terracotta-roofed houses that make up the Cusco townscape, visitors will often couple a visit to this Imperial City with a side trip to Machu Picchu, an Incan citadel resting on a high Andean plateau and one of Seven New Wonders of the World.

Cuba

Number one on the list, Cuba has a complex baggage of socialism and unfriendly relations with the White House, and though it is yet to be in the Administration’s good graces, it remains a hugely popular destination for Americans.

Controversy aside, Cuba is a UNESCO-listed island country celebrated for its historic cities, most notably Havana, hands down the prettiest Caribbean capital with eclectic architecture, as well as a plethora of natural wonders, from white sand beaches to tropical parks.

Its coast is pristine and unspoiled, compared to the overdeveloped Mayan Riviera or Punta Cana, and it won’t take you long to fall in love with Cuba’s vibrant music scene, and the unique townscapes, almost frozen in time and still dominated by colonial structures and colorful vintage cars.
