Priceline revealed their latest data to help travelers choose how to finish the winter season strong with some awesome travel destinations.

Some places won’t stretch your dollar quite as far upon landing, but hey, at least you arrived by saving some serious dough.

Ranging from some of America’s most iconic cities to underrated winter getaways, travelers on a budget can score some great deals on airfare this month.

Seattle, Washington

Washington’s largest and most recognizable city is a steal of a deal for a last-minute winter trip. Not typically known as a winter destination given the grey skies and intermittent rainfall, Seattle can still be a good time with the right preparation.

Airfare has dropped for the off-season of this fun city, but packing a coat and umbrella may be necessary.

Travelers can still enjoy all the sights from the famous Pike’s Market, the iconic Space Needle, and more indoor attractions, such as the Seattle Aquarium and many museums.

Round-trip airfare is averaging $244.

Denver, Colorado

This hip city surrounded by majestic mountains is an awesome winter escape and even more so on the cheap!

Downtown is an endless playground of trendy bars, shopping, and nice hotels. Not to mention, the fun bike trails as an alternative way to explore Denver.

Travelers can squeeze in a last-minute ski trip with many resorts nearby or an outdoor adventure at Rocky Mountain National Park.

Denver has a huge airport outside the city, but the $10 train gives travelers an affordable straight shot over expensive Ubers.

Round-trip airfare is averaging $242

Washington D.C.

Despite cold weather, winter is one of the best times to visit our nation’s capital. During the sunny months of the year, crowds tend to pack into all the famous sites.

Visiting in winter gives tourists more elbow room. Plus, many of D.C.’s top attractions are indoors, so the weather won’t put too much of a damper on your trip.

Spend your days museum-hopping in some of the most fascinating places in America, such as The Smithsonian.

Far beyond just the White House, there are ritzy places to stay and trendy restaurants to indulge in.

Round-trip airfare is averaging $239.

Chicago, Illinois

Instantly one of the States’ most recognizable destinations, the vast concrete jungle of Chicago is super cheap right now.

But travelers be warned – the frigid weather is no joke! Those willing to sacrifice teeth-chattering chills in favor of savings in The Windy City can still have an awesome trip.

Walking the Magnificent Mile may be out of the question with the intense windchills, but there are still plenty of attractions and world-class hotels.

Still cold, but you can actually walk through Times Square and take in one of the most recognizable locations on the planet.

The Big Apple is an endless metropolis of entertainment and cultural delights. From top notch museums, restaurants and shopping, travelers will lose track of time indulging in all NYC has to offer.

Round-trip flights are averaging $217.

The Best Of The Rest

Given it’s the off-season weather-wise in some of the top destinations in America, there are still some sunny destinations to visit, costing slightly more on average than the top 5.

Flying to a new or far-flung destination should be an exciting experience, but if you pick the wrong airline, then that dream can quickly turn into a nightmare.

Flight delays, cancellations, turbulence, and even pilot strikes can make a trip to the airport stressful.

So which airline should you use to best avoid these inconveniences?

These are the top 3 U.S. airlines for 2024 according to the Wall Street Journal:

3. Allegiant

The 3rd best airline in the U.S. is Allegiant. The Wall Street Journal used 7 different metrics, including how often an airline was on time, the number of customer complaints, and any baggage handling issues to create their list.

Allegiant has jumped into 3^rd place for 2024, having been down in 5^th place last year. This is good news for budget travelers as Allegiant is an ultra-low-cost carrier that manages to combine budget travel with reliable travel.

New data has revealed that airfare across the U.S. hasn’t been this cheap since 2009 and this is in part due to the services offered by budget carriers such as Allegiant.

Some of the metrics that helped Allegiant soar in the rankings include their low rate of flight cancellations, small number of tarmac delays, and minimal baggage handling issues.

Allegiant provides nonstop services to over 110 U.S. cities, but it doesn’t fly outside of the continental United States at this point.

2. Alaska

Alaska Airlines has not changed positions and remains the 2^nd best airline in the U.S. for 2024.

Alaska boasts the highest punctuality rating of any other airline in the U.S., with at least 80% of their flights arriving on time. It also came first in the categories of cancellations and extreme delays.

However, it’s not all good news for Alaska fliers as the airline also came in 7^th place (out of the 9 carriers listed) for their baggage handling services, so it might be wise to consider flying with carry-on if you choose Alaska for your next flight!

Only United Airlines and American Airlines had worse reputations for their baggage handling services.

Alaska has taken this feedback on board, and according to a spokesperson, they are now introducing new tools and technologies to improve their baggage handling efficiency.

Alaska Airlines has just announced a new daily nonstop flight between Seattle and Toronto Pearson airport that will begin on May 16. This will be the 6th Canadian city served by Alaska and will join a roster of more than 120 destinations that are served by Alaska.

1. Delta

The best U.S. Airline for 2024 is officially Delta. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as this is the third year running that Delta has taken this crown according to the Wall Street Journal.

If you want an airline that is likely to be on time then Delta is the one to choose as 83% of their flights landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.

Delta also ranked first for complaints and involuntary bumping and the airline is considered so reliable that it did not secure anything lower than 5^th place in any of the 7 categories.

In fact Delta has a reputation for heavily compensating any passengers who need to be bumped from their flights involuntarily.

Delta is only continuing to grow and expand its flight offerings, but it is clearly not compromising quality in the process. In the last month alone Delta has announced 11 new flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and has expanded its network with new and returning services to Rio de Janeiro.

It’s easy to become star-struck with the many different international destinations that are predicted to be trending in 2024.

Far-flung destinations like Tokyo or Dubai may be the ones of a lot of people’s lips right now, but there are destinations closer to home that have travelers talking.

One such location is California’s Napa Valley – a region that has been gaining international acclaim over the past year.

Known for its excellence as a distinguished wine region, Napa Valley has plenty more to offer besides tasting sessions, which is perhaps why it looks set to be a trending destination in the United States for 2024.

It’s Getting International Recognition

It really does seem like Napa Valley is catching on in a big way on the international scale.

The region was recently named the number one trending destination in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards, as well as being included in Travel and Leisure’s prestigious Best Places To Travel in 2024 list.

And last year, the Napa town of Sonoma was named as a top trending destinations in the U.S. too – it’s hard to ignore when a place is consistently so highly regarded.

Award-Winning Venues

Napa Valley is one of only 12 wine regions in the world to be part of the Great Wine Capitals program – and the only one in North America.

Recently, it was bestowed with several major honors as part of the Great Wine Capitals 2024 Best of Wine Tourism awards.

Seven different Napa venues picked up awards across seven different categories including Four Seasons Resort & Residencies (Accommodations), Trefethen Family Vineyards (Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences), and Oakville Grocery & Wine Merchant (Wine Tourism Restaurants).

You Can Visit Year-Round

Naturally, the summer is a great time to visit Napa, with temperatures regularly hitting the low 80s from June to September.

Fall is also one of the most popular times as its harvest season for many grapes, so you may be able to witness first-hand one of the key stages of winemaking.

But even winter is not such a bad time to head on down to Napa – while it can be a little rainier than usual, temperatures usually hit the high 50s, and when it is sunny, it feels pleasantly warm compared to many places in the country.

Huge Choice Of Flights

Napa Valley is incredibly well serviced by several major airports, including San Francisco International, Oakland International, Sacramento International, and Sonoma County Airport.

All these airports are within a two-hour drive of the region, and the sheer volume of choice means you can nearly always find a cheap flight.

Hiring a car is one way to get there from these airports, alternatively from San Francisco you can catch a ferry to Vallejo and then use a transit bus from there known as the Vine.

More Than Just Wineries

While the Napa Valley region may be home to more than 400 different wineries, a nice glass of your preferred tipple is not the only reason to consider visiting this region.

There are some world-class golf courses in the area such as Silverado and Mount Saint Helena Golf Club, as well as the opportunity to absorb some of the fascinating history at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville – it’s just $5 to go in.

Hangover Cures As Standard

Napa Valley is actually a great area for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as wine lovers.

The beautiful hills surrounding the valley are ideal for taking a cycling tour, which could help you sweat out your hangover if you overindulged a little on Napa’s finest produce.

You could even ease your weary head by taking a peaceful hot air balloon ride over the gold and green vistas – it’s perfect at sunset or sunrise.

The Event Scene Is Popping

There are many annual events held in the Napa Valley region that are growing in popularity with each passing year.

Naturally, many of them center around food and drink, such as the Napa Truffle Festival in January, or Calistoga’s Harvest Table in September.

One of the great things about being a frequent traveler is getting to see some of the world’s best attractions first-hand.

6) Cerro Negro Volcano, Nicaragua

Situated about 15 miles from the city of Leon, Nicaragua’s Cerro Negro Volcano is a sight to behold.

Standing at 2,388ft, this imperious volcano stands out against the horizon thanks to its jet-black slopes made from the ash and volcanic rock of previous eruptions.

Not only is this a great attraction for lovers of great scenery and amateur volcanologists, it’s also ideal for thrill-seekers – you can hire sleds and sandboards to whizz down the sandy slopes.

Need another reason to visit? Nicaragua is by far one of the cheapest countries in the region, with average spending for travelers estimated at about $55 per day.

5) Central Park, New York

The 840-acre strip of green that punctuates Manhattan is quite possibly the most famous park on the planet.

I am, of course, referring to Central Park in New York City, the only attraction in the United States to make this top 6.

As well as being a great spot for walking, running, or grabbing a relaxing picnic, Central Park is home to a world-famous zoo, a carousel, and a boathouse where you can rent boats to traverse the lake.

One of the best things about Central Park is the views it affords you of some of New York’s most iconic buildings.

4) Museo Nacional de Antropologia, Mexico

Located just over a mile west of the Angel of Independence statue in ever-popular Mexico City, the Museo Nacional de Antropologia is the national museum of Mexico and well worth adding to your itinerary when visiting.

Over more than 800,000 square feet of exhibition space, the museum showcases some of the most interesting cultural and archeological artifacts in all of Mexico.

The entry fee is 95 Mexican Pesos (about $5), and right now, the museum is showcasing limited-time exhibitions on the themes of apocalypse and Chac Mool by Sebastian.

3) Old Quebec, Canada

This UNESCO World Heritage site is a remarkably well-preserved fortified town featuring intricate colonial architecture that dates back over 400 years.

They call this region of the city ‘the birthplace of French North America’, and it’s easy to see why when you sample some of the delightful cafes, bakeries, and independent shops on Petit-Champlain Street.

Old Quebec is close to a picturesque port, which is a beautiful spot to watch either sunrise or sunset paint golden light over the beautiful buildings behind.

This unique attraction must surely play a part in why Canada is always one of the most visited destinations for Americans.

2) Horseshoe Falls, Canada

For those who aren’t familiar, Horseshoe Falls is one of the main waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls.

Horseshoe is on the Canadian side of this iconic destination and attracts more than 8 million visitors annually.

It might seem like a cliched and maybe even overrated destination, but it scored the second-highest average score in this study among American travelers.

Despite the slightly gaudy nature of the nearby town, the falls themselves are something everyone should see at least once.

1) Tikal, Guatemala

It may surprise you to learn that the top-rated attraction in North America by American travelers lies in the underrated nation of Guatemala.

But once you lay eyes on the magnificent temples and ruins of Tikal National Park in the far northeast of the country, you may begin to understand.

The temples here jut up above dense rainforest and offer perhaps some of the best examples to witness what ancient Maya culture was like.

It’s also relatively easy to access – there’s a small airport in the city of Flores on the shores of Lake Peten Itza that is only about an hour’s drive from Tikal.

With average February temperatures of 69°F (20.5°C) and an impressive 12 hours of daylight, Fort Lauderdale, Florida remains one of America’s favorite beachy destinations year-round.

People have always flocked to the city for its sun-soaked beaches and electrifying atmosphere, but its reputation as a party hotspot more popular among spring breakers has always held the Floridian hub back a bit in terms of its tourism success.

Now, though, travelers seem to be rediscovering Fort Lauderdale as a well-rounded destination suited to virtually every type of traveler, from college kids just looking to have fun to families seeking some well-deserved relaxation.

Often called the “Venice of America,” Fort Lauderdale boasts an impressive canal network, which visitors can explore firsthand through organized boat tours that start at $38 per adult.

If taking in the views of the golden-sanded beaches from afar isn’t enough to get you out of that wintery mindset, take the time to actually lounge around the iconic Fort Lauderdale Beach, lined with palm trees and trendy cafes that make that mid-day snack feel like the escape you’ve been pining after for so long.

Tucson, Arizona

While not your typical beachy getaway, Tucson, Arizona offers the type of mild climate and jaw-dropping views that most of us are seeking this winter.

Average daytime temperatures here tend to stay on the lower end of what you’d consider “warm,” ranging from 60-70°F (15-21°C); however, considering that rainfall is minimal to non-existent and that you’re not planning on swimming or sunbathing either way, that’s pretty much perfect.

Thanks to its location in the famous Sonoran Desert, Tucson in February becomes the perfect place for you to explore the sandy landscapes without having to fight the scorching summer heat.

U.S. Issues New Travel Security Alert For Colombia

Colombia has long held an iffy reputation for travelers. On one hand, it’s an amazing destination to visit.

On the other hand, many travelers have claimed they feel the need to keep their head on a swivel in certain areas.

Some of the more popular cities to visit are Medellin, Bogota and Cartagena to name a select few. The U.S. Embassy just issued a nationwide security alert this morning for all travelers in Colombia.

While the U.S. Embassy surely has intel we don’t possess, travelers can dive into our in-depth report regarding the safety aspect of Medellin here.

New Security Alert

Tragically, it has been reported from November 1 – December 31, 2023 8 U.S. tourists lost their lives by being duped by criminals.

There are a variety of ways tourists are targeted in Colombia. So much so, there is a common saying in Colombia that tourists should know.

‘No Dar Papaya’ translates to ‘don’t give papaya’. Essentially, do your best to not stand out and make yourself a target.

Keep valuables out of plain sight while going about your day, and stick to tourist-friendly neighborhoods.

Advice from the U.S. Embassy:
- Never physically resist a robbery attempt – your life is always more valuable than possessions
- Trust your intuition – if something feels off, stick to your gut
- Tell someone you trust of your plans when going out
A Fatal Scam

Colombia is no stranger to crime and the U.S. Embassy is most certainly aware. So why the sudden change in tone?

It’s quite alarming to lose 8 lives in such a short span. Medellin, in particular, has become a hotspot for U.S. tourists for its affordable costs and year-round splendid weather, among other digital nomad perks.

The world is a beautiful place, but there are bad apples everywhere. The same goes for Medellin as well as the rest of the country.

With digital nomadism and solo travel being so popular, the road can get lonely at times. With our phones glued to our hips, the easy thing to do is get on dating apps, as they are now universal.

It’s no longer a societal taboo to meet up with strangers, or even ride with them, but perhaps the latest scam will raise red flags again.

The U.S. Embassy in Bogota is sounding the alarm on dating apps in Colombia as U.S. travelers are being duped far worse than your typical ‘catfish’.

Lured in to meeting in a public place as most dates go, as the night goes on, victims were lead away from public view and assaulted, drugged, robbed and even killed in some instances.

Not all 8 reported deaths have been attributed to dating apps, but “several” have been linked.

How To Remain Vigilant Dating In Colombia

Other than keeping a heightened sense of awareness, the Embassy notes you should be one step ahead if you sense you’re on a date from hell.

Staying in public view is key as violent crimes typically take place in isolation, such as residences and hotel rooms.

When possible, inform the concierge of your hotel or residence of a visitor and ask them to obtain valid identification beforehand if you have a new visitor.

Sedatives have been used, so it’s important to keep an eye on what you’re drinking and keep your phone within reach, as electronics are a commonly stolen item.

Uptick In Crime

According to the Tourism Observatory of the District Personnel of Medellin, crime against foreigners increased 200 percent toward the end of 2023 when compared to 2022 data.

That’s a big jump that raises eyebrows. What’s even more concerning is many deaths deemed ‘violent’ were U.S. citizens in 2023.

With the latest alert, it appears these unfortunate trends are carrying over into 2024, with the dating app scam becoming the most prevalent tactic.

Here is the kicker – the U.S. Embassy admits crime often goes unreported due to victim embarrassment. While Medellin is the hotspot for crimes against tourists, with the Embassy’s knowledge of unreported crimes, they felt it was necessary to issue an alert for the whole country with Medellin, Bogota, and Cartagena being highlighted.

In a major turn of events, the United States has issued an emergency travel alert for Ecuador, an increasingly popular country that in recent years has become a trendy spot for nature-based getaways and cultural tourism in Latin America, thanks to its unspoiled nature and colonial heritage.

In case you haven’t been following the news in the last couple of days, peace in Ecuador has sadly been disappeared following numerous prison riots, which have led to a surge in crimes across the typically tranquil nation. Travelers will need to follow all government orders and adhere to the advice in the latest alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador.

Now, U.S. citizens who are visiting soon, should they opt to go ahead with their travel plans, will be subject to strict new orders.

What Is Happening In Ecuador Right Now?

It all started when the Ecuadorian Government confirmed that, on January 7, Adolfo Macias, the leader of a powerful criminal organization who had been jailed on a 34-year sentence, had escaped prison on the day he was rumored to be transferred to a maximum-security facility.

There have been simultaneous criminal attacks across cities, jailbreaks, and even armed men storming into live TV studios.

As Guillhaume Long, the former Foreign Minister has stated, Ecuador may have had an issue with crime for years, having ended 2023 rated among the worse in Latin America, but following last weekend’s mayhem, the situation has ‘spiraled out of control’.

It didn’t end there:

In a coordinated attack on January 8, only a day later, prisoners in at least six other correctional facilities across Ecuador rebelled against authorities and seized power, with as many as 150 guards and staff taken hostage and 39 inmates breaking free of a prison in Riobamba alone.

The situation keeps deteriorating quickly, as by January 9, violence quickly spilled onto the streets, with at least five explosions in ‘several cities’.

Though there have been no injuries or casualties reported for those, the overall picture is rather grim, and what’s worse, fast-evolving.

Government officials have counted as many as 30 different attacks since Macias went missing last Sunday, but no exact links have yet been established, nor has the inmate been tracked down yet.

We understand it may be confusing, and there is a lot going on, but this is clear: due to drug trafficking and turf wars, violence in Ecuador has risen tremendously compared to previous years, and even recent weeks, and the state of unrest could be prolonged further.

What Has Been The Government’s Response?

Based on Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa’s statements, civil distress could worsen, as he will ‘not negotiate’ with the parties responsible for the latest episode.

Noboa elaborated by saying the violence is ‘a reaction’ to the Government’s proposal to build a high-security prison for jailed gang leaders, but that has not been fully established, either.

In response, on January 8 the President a nationwide State of Emergency, set to last 60 days.

Travelers In The Country Are Subject To A Nighttime Curfew

This includes a national curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. directly impacting nighttime services across tourist destinations like Quito, the capital and cultural heart, Cuenca, the colonial gem, Guayaquil, the gateway to the Pacific, and many more.

There is no way of knowing when, or where crime will happen, or when or how an armed conflict will erupt, but if we’re to trust the President’s statement, it most certainly will, as military action will take place, and anti-Government forces will react.

Taking this information into account, it’s no surprise the U.S. Embassy has now issued an emergency alert for Americans in, or who are planning on traveling to Ecuador.

What Is The U.S. Government Saying?

The U.S. Department of State acknowledges the seriousness of the situation, noting that schools in Ecuador will operate virtually through January 12, and even remote work is being recommended ‘wherever possible’.

So far, Ecuador is yet to be demoted from Level 2 to 3 in the Travel Advisory listing, meaning the U.S. still does not discourage Americans from traveling, but seeing that usually happens with some delay, and it’s almost a given the country will be hit with a ‘Reconsider Travel’ advice at some point down the line.

Unless, of course, order is suddenly reinstated. For now, that looks unlikely.

While the advisory isn’t updated, the alert warns Americans to keep up to date with official communications from the government of Ecuador pertaining to the State of Emergency, ‘monitor credible media sources’ for information on ‘threats and violent activity’, and review Washington’s own safety advice.

How Does This Affect Tourists?

Ecuador has not shut down, and tourist services, hotels, and tourist attractions continue to operate normally, except they must adhere to the nighttime curfew.

Other than the threat of violence, the major immediate impact on the tourism scene is the theoretical halting of all nightlife across Ecuador.

In the medium to long term, there is no way of knowing how Ecuador will suffer from a potential eventual drop in tourism revenue.

After all, as charming and picturesque as it is, we wouldn’t be the first ones to book a flight out to Quito anytime soon, not until the dust settles and there is more information available.

For those who still intend to visit, flights to and from Ecuador continue to operate normally without changes in schedule or time, so far, as the curfew provides an exception for a number of essential workers, as well as individuals traveling via airports during curfew hours.

Now that the holidays have passed, travelers’ schedules may be limited. But that doesn’t stop us from scratching our incurable travel itch.

We might just have to sacrifice a weeklong trip and narrow it down to a fun weekend getaway. There’s nothing wrong with that this time of year, especially since the U.S. has so many cool spots to spend a few days.

We all know the iconic cities of the U.S., but there are some sunny, underrated gems that are easily accessible and just the right size to squeeze in a weekend getaway during the dead of winter.

Tampa, Florida

If there is one thing we can all agree on, we are all seeking a sunny escape this time of year. While places like Miami and Orlando steal Florida’s thunder, there are underrated cities like Tampa perfectly suited for a weekend away.

There’s no Disney World here, but an easy explorable city awaits near some of Florida’s top beaches.

Commonly in the 70s in January, Tampa is perfect for packing shorts for a nice bike ride or beach day.

Nearby Anna Maria island is an amazing tropical escape along with top-rated Clearwater and Siesta Keys.

And best of all, prices tend to drop in winter to splurge more on top-notch experiences and dining, such as the very underrated Cuban food scene.

Scottsdale, Arizona

Phoenix may be a much larger city, but those seeking a desert escape may want to opt for the trendy neighboring city of Scottsdale.

Home to the scenic Camelback Mountains and oodles of shopping, restaurants, and nightlife options, Scottsdale is worth a weekend splurge.

Arizona has sweltering summers. So much so that you may find yourself on the free shuttle in Scottsdale just for the A/C.

Winter makes for a great time to enjoy a much milder climate to wander the streets of Old Town or sit poolside at the many luxurious hotels to choose from.

Outdoor lovers can take in the surrounding scenery with plentiful hiking trails or play a round of 18 holes.

Orange County, California

While technically not a city itself, Orange County is a cluster of smaller cities suited for weekend getaways.

Rather than fly into San Diego or Los Angeles, Orange County does have its own airport with plenty of flights nationwide.

Upon landing, travelers can take their pick between the high-end shopping of Newport Beach, the luxurious lifestyle of Laguna Beach, or activate their inner child for a day at Disneyland in Anaheim.

Ritzy hotels are spread throughout Orange County, which is the hometown of some of Southern California’s prettiest beaches.

San Antonio, Texas

Just an hour south of Austin is a city with a completely different personality but well-suited for a memorable weekend.

A city made for restaurant patios, San Antonio is one of the top foodie destinations in America, where travelers can indulge in a variety of Mexican cuisine and margarita sippin’.

Home to an easily walkable downtown district with historical sights, luxury hotels, and the famous Riverwalk, travelers will have no problem staying busy and resting comfortably.

And, of course, you can’t skip out on the local Mexican markets.

Palm Springs, California

As an LGBTQ hotspot, come one, come all – Palm Springs is happy to have you. This quirky city has a historic past of being a popular escape for celebrities but is more known for nearby music festivals nearby Joshua Tree National Park nowadays.

You can easily jam-pack your weekend with all sorts of fun here with lavish hotels, trendy restaurants, and good vibes galore.

Palm Springs is typically a sunny escape in winter, so don’t be fooled when you fly in over snowcapped mountains.

South Padre Island, Texas

Commonly a Spring Break destination, a winter break in South Padre is nice too. While Texas is generally underrated for beaches, South Padre may be the best of all.

Some may argue Port Aransas, but South Padre has better winter weather and cheap beachfront resorts to enjoy picturesque beaches before the college crowds soon take over.

Vacationers can fly into nearby Brownsville and hit the beach for a weekend of sunny days lounging around, going on dolphin tours, or barhopping with more elbow room in the winter season.

While the idea of sun, sand, and surf is very appealing during the wintertime, sometimes it’s actually kind of nice to embrace the true meaning of the season.

That means getting hunkered down in a cozy cabin in front of a roaring fire while the snow falls on the mountains and pine trees outside.

It’s a dreamy winter travel vision in its own right, and luckily the United States has some of the best places on earth to live out this fantasy.

Perhaps the most popular, and with very good reason, is the state of Colorado.

Whether it’s skiing, fine dining, luxury wellness spas, or just hanging out in hipster mountain towns, this winter wonderland has so much to offer…

Winter Sports Paradise

It’s well-known that Colorado is home to some of the best skiing locations on the planet, with towns such as Vail, Aspen, and Breckenridge among the favorites.

There are more than 1,500 miles of ski slopes in the state, served by 28 ski resorts and over 300 ski lifts – so even when it gets busy, you’ll always be able to find somewhere to go.

It’s not only downhill winter sports that are unrivaled here; you can also partake in snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at one of the many Nordic Centers in Colorado, as well as try your hand at dog sledding, snow tubing, or even snowmobiling.

Despite the cold, Colorado boasts many sunny days in winter and very dry snow, so being out in it all day doesn’t feel like a chore.

An Appetite For Après

After any amount of winter sports, you’re going to be ready to eat.

But one of the great things about Colorado is that it’s fast-becoming a recognized foodie destination, so you could go there just for the food if skiing isn’t your thing.

Boulder, Aspen, and Vail are all home to some incredible restaurants, with brewhouse-style grub being one of the main things they excel at.

The state even has a growing number of Michelin starred restaurants for those seeking luxury dining.

Scenery Like Nowhere Else

About half of Colorado is mountainous, making it a place where breathtaking scenery is just part and parcel of being there.

While some of the main hiking trails may be a little less accessible in winter, there are still plenty of places to catch a glimpse of a stunning vista at this time of year.

The valley town of Breckenridge is best viewed from Boreas Pass Road, while Pikes Peak Summit near Colorado Springs can still be viewed from Garden of the Gods in winter.

Another great sight to witness is the Colorado National Monument, which you can check out from several different lookout points around Monument Canyon.

Ensure that you are prepared for winter driving conditions and keep an eye on snowfall in the weather forecast if you’re on a sightseeing trip in a car.

There’s just something about being in a mountain town that gets your inner party animal going.

Then there’s the state’s biggest city, Denver, which is known for its great music scene, welcoming bars, and a large number of independent breweries.
