These 3 Cities In Mexico Are America’s Favorite Vacation Destinations

Mexico is the go-to country for U.S. citizens flying abroad, and while it’s true the whole country is packed with tourist attractions and breathtaking sights, there are three cities that stand out as America’s preferred vacation destinations, regardless of travel season, due to their year-round warmer weather, the hospitality of the locals, vast tourist offer and vibrant multiculturalism.

The Southern Neighbor has come out of the health crisis stronger than ever before: it has always been a tourism powerhouse, drawing in millions of tourists every year prior to 2020, but it is breaking every imaginable record in the current era. It has hosted over 30 million visitors in 2022, and further growth is expected for 2023 when an even greater number of Americans is expected to travel.

We already knew 25% of them will be heading to Mexico this year, but now we also know which cities they’re most likely to fly to:

The Leading Tourist Destinations In Mexico

Playa Delfines In The Mexican Caribbean, Quintana Roo, Mexico

According to recent research conducted by Grupo Empresarial Estrategia, three of Mexico’s coastal cities saw a 12.6% increase in arrivals in the first seven months of 2022 jointly compared to 2019. In actual numbers, this translates as 8.4 million passengers or 23.3% of Mexico’s tourism figures at that point.

In a country where the tourism offer is impossibly vast, comprising Magical Towns, colonial-era destinations, and an extensive coastline, keeping up the momentum is hard, but these three cities have proven yet again their reign is only starting. Further supporting the earlier findings, new data from Allianz Travel confirmed them as the top destinations for Americans traveling abroad in early February.

Central Square In Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico

As seen in the study, which focuses mostly on travel data for Valentine’s Day but encompasses the wider period of February 2 up to February 13, during the peak season in Mexico, the country is the most popular vacation option for Americans flying internationally. More specifically, the exact same destinations that had been named Mexico’s most powerful triad last year.

Officially, the top three vacation spots Americans are completely obsessed with are:

Happy Friends Jumping In The Sea During A Beach Holiday

    Cancun

Cancun is the busiest hub in the state of Quintana Roo, and a highly sought-after destination for mainly one reason: it offers easy access to the wider Riviera Maya, a gorgeous sandy strip extending along the Eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, home to some of Mexico’s top-rated five-star resorts, a busy nightlife, the clearest beaches in the entire country, and seas that are turquoise blue.

It does have its flaws, especially when it comes to overpricing and the quality of the service amid higher demand, as well as the occasional presence of sargassum, which blankets the coast from April through October, but it remains a world-class destination. Demand has been so high and air traffic so intense eGates were opened to speed up the processing of passengers early this year.

    Iberostar Selection Cancun

    Los Cabos

Located at the very tip of the Baja California peninsula, the ‘Capes’, or Los Cabos, are a dual destination including the neighboring cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, which are both famous for their well-developed wellness scene and stunning nature – think the iconic arch-shaped rock formation rising out of the Pacific, golden sands and lush marine parks.

As a single entity, Los Cabos is the fastest-growing destination in all of Mexico, surpassing Cancun’s own growth rate. Last year, it posted a 24% increase in arrival figures, claiming the title of Mexico’s second most popular coastal spot. Its soaring popularity is attributed to a host of luxurious hotels and spa facilities and a laid-back atmosphere – contrasting with Cancun’s chaotic party scene.

Panoramic View Of The Los Cabos Harbor, Baja California Sur, Mexico

    Puerto Vallarta

The gorgeous capital of the state of Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta’s skyline is one of the most easily recognized in Mexico. It features a rose-colored cathedral spire rising above a Spanish-built cobblestone Old Town, dramatically set against the backdrop of the Pacific ocean. Wandering the streets, visitors are met with a surprising mix of old and new.

The old buildings in the Centro Historico will offer them a glimpse of Mexico’s bygone colonial era, and the riches of the now-defunct Spanish Empire, under which Puerto Vallarta existed, while the well-frequented, palm tree-lined Malecon promenade, filled with restaurants and trendy bars, serves as a reminder it is far from being just another boring open-air museum: it is youthful, fun, and full of life.

Aerial View Of Historical Center Of Puerto Vallarta, Facing The Pacific Coast, State Of Jalisco, Mexico

    A Powerhouse Trio

Regardless of the holiday period and season, these three cities will continue leading booking trends. It is not a mere coincidence, and it is a pretty rare, impressive feat. For instance, it is quite normal for bookings to surge in the European market over summer, as Americans fly in their droves to the Mediterranean – or the newly-discovered Black Sea – to soak up the culture.

As the cold months approach, however, inbound travel from America decreases significantly – the European South is, after all, a seasonal favorite. Mexico’s triad, on the other hand, is busy year-round: even though numbers tend to dwindle in the off-season, they are still high enough for incoming passengers to struggle with higher rates and lower room availability in a number of areas.

Aerial View Of The Arch Of Cabo San Lucas In Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Other fast-growing destinations in Mexico that should be on your list include Isla Mujeres, a scenic island off the Cancun coast, Lake Bacalar, touted as the new Tulum – except it’s far more authentic and has not been ruined by overtourism – and Merida, a colonial gem famous for its colorful 18th and 19th century buildings and Spanish heritage.

  • Why You Should Book Your Last Night Of Vacation Near The Airport

Why You Should Book Your Last Night Of Vacation Near The Airport

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

No matter how many times you’ve been to the airport, the worry that you aren’t leaving early enough never seems to fade. It’s a shame to end a relaxing vacation by stressing about making it home. What if there is traffic? What if your transportation doesn’t show up? What if the airport is way busier than usual?

All of the unknowns add up, and we naturally worry. However, there is a way to lessen the stress. A new trend among stress-conscious travelers is emerging, and it might just be the best way to end a vacation. By booking the last night of your vacation at a hotel near (or in) the airport, you greatly diminish the stress that comes along with making the trek back home.

Here are 5 reasons why you should book your last night of vacation near the airport:

Woman looking at her phone while resting hand on suitcase

    You’ll Avoid Traffic Problems

If you’ve been plugged into the news lately, you probably know that traffic around Cancun’s airport has been crazy lately. Travelers headed to the airport last week got so desperate they began to ditch their taxis to finish the route on foot in an attempt to make it to their flights on time. While this is an extreme example, traffic can be a serious cause for concern when trying to make it to the airport on time. By booking your last night near the airport, you’ll cut down on the chance that traffic will make you miss your flight home.

    Heavy traffic in a city

    You’ll Already Be Packed

We’ve all been there. Frantically jamming everything we can into our bags while the clock mocks us from across the room as we try to get out the door to the airport on time. Somehow it always seems more difficult to pack everything up when vacation is ending than it did before it started. If you opt to spend your last night of vacation in a hotel near the airport, you’ll be able to pack stress-free.

You’ll be far less likely to accidentally leave anything behind, and you’ll be able to enjoy the process more while you think about how great of a vacation you just had. As a bonus, you’ll already be packed and ready to roll the next day before your flight, as you only need to set aside the essentials for the next day’s travels.

Woman packing her suitcase and checking off a list of luggage items

    Transportation Is Often Included

Many hotels around the airport will include free airport shuttles as part of their nightly rate. Not only does this save you money, but it also takes the stress out of figuring out how you will get to the airport. Now you don’t have to shell out way too much money for a taxi, and you don’t have to coordinate anything. Just make sure to ask the concierge what schedule the shuttle follows, as it can vary from property to property. Most hotels will have a shuttle run at least twice per hour, starting well before the first flights of the day.

    You’ll Save Money On Accommodation

Spending the last night of vacation in a hotel closer to the airport will likely save you money on accommodation, depending on your vacation type. If you just spent a week at a beachfront resort, the airport near the hotel will undoubtedly be cheaper. To maximize your time at the nice resort, ask if the front desk can hold on to your luggage after checkout and see if they will allow you to enjoy the grounds until later in the afternoon before heading off to your airport hotel. Many properties are more than happy to provide this service, and you still enjoy the property without paying for another night.

    Transportation Is More Dependable

Staying near the airport guarantees you’ll be able to find a way there more efficiently and affordably. In bigger cities, this can equate to quite a bit of saving.

    Author’s Anectode

I traveled to London in November and stayed in Canary Wharf. To get home, I planned to take the first flight out of Heathrow in the morning to avoid delays. Unfortunately, I hadn’t done enough homework, because in order to be at the airport 2 hours before my flight, my only option was a taxi. The first tube stop of the day I could take to begin the journey to the airport was far too late in the morning to be sure I would make my flight.

If I had been able to take the tube, the trip would have cost about $15, and instead, I had to pay for a taxi that cost me over $100. Had I booked a hotel closer to the airport, I’d have saved myself some money and been able to sleep in a bit more.

The Most Relaxing Puerto Vallarta Vacation Is Only A 5 Minute Drive From The Airport

As many of us know, getting the chance to truly unwind while on vacation can sometimes prove more difficult than expected. Just because you’ve arrived in a beautiful area with sun and sand doesn’t mean your brain suddenly turns off the constant hum of everyday life. However, I just completely unplugged for the first time in a long time after spending a few days at the most relaxing resort in Puerto Vallarta, The Westin, which is only a quick five-minute drive from the airport.

Westin Resort exterior of building in Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Trying To Unwind Can Actually Be Stressful

Have you ever tried to relax? The statement itself is a bit of an oxymoron. Try to relax? Attempting to relax and being unsuccessful can be its own source of stress. Relaxing should be effortless, and at The Westin, it was.

To really understand how rare this experience was for me, I’ve got to let you in on a secret…

    I love my job.

No, seriously. I have never been as passionate about anything else in my entire life, and I am so grateful to be able to say that! However, it can be hard to unwind or unplug when you are so invested and interested in something. I don’t really see this as a downside because it’s what I am most passionate about.

Still, regardless of how I feel about it, it’s wise to unplug every now and then for mental health and relaxation. Lucky for me, The Westin didn’t give me a choice! Even if I tried to work (which I did), I was able to relax more than I had in months.

The Westin Puerto Vallarta sits on the grounds of an old palm tree farm, and great care is taken to preserve them. Each tree is numbered and looked after carefully.

    Worry-Free From The Start

I was lucky enough to have the row to myself on the flight in, and things only got easier from there. Getting through customs in Puerto Vallarta is a breeze, and transport from the airport was arranged through The Westin.

When I walked outside, my driver was already waiting for me with a sign that had my name on it. A quick 5-minute drive later, and I was greeted by The Westin’s beautiful lobby and signature White Tea scent. My senses were pleasantly overwhelmed, and I felt like I’d entered another world.

    **Author’s Airport Tip**

One quick tip for navigating Puerto Vallarta’s airport — make sure you don’t fall for any of the timeshare people’s tactics in the “shark tank.” People inside the airport will try to convince you that they are your transport, don’t fall for it. Walk all the way outside of the airport, where the actual transport operators will be waiting.

The scale of the building, the perfect weather, and the wonderful immediate service made everything feel surreal. My bags were quickly whisked away to be taken to my room, check-in took all of two minutes, and I was in my room shortly after. I’d only landed just over thirty minutes prior and was already enjoying a cup of afternoon tea while taking in the incredible view from my balcony.

A Dinner That Will Ground You, Literally

As a solo traveler and borderline introvert, getting to know new people can sometimes be challenging. After a long day of flying, my energy levels can make it difficult to put the effort forth to get to know people I’ve never met or even catch up with those that I already know. That all changed during the first evening’s dinner at The Westin.

Our group (who had only met virtually up to this point) met in the lobby before walking through the gorgeous property to our dinner location. The Westin sits on what used to be a palm tree farm, and great effort was taken to preserve the trees. Even the pools were built around existing trees. The whole resort feels cozy — as if you’re closed off from the entire world, so the walk already made the evening feel special.

The Westin was built on the grounds of a former palm tree farm. Great efforts are taken to preserve the trees, which are each distinctly numbered.

When we reached our dinner spot, the ambiance really kicked in. We had booked a ‘sunset picnic’ right on the lawn overlooking the beach, and I instantly knew it was going to be a great night. Getting down closer to the ground gave the entire experience a much more intimate feel.

Smiles were plenty, and conversation was easy. This was definitely the best way to get to know people, and would be perfect for families and friends to enjoy together and catch up. The string lights over the table lit up as the sun went down, and fireworks started a short way down the beach, adding a whole other element to the evening as we enjoyed our desserts. As the night came to a close, I knew I’d made some good friends that I would keep beyond the trip.

After wrapping up dinner, I went back to my room to end the night in the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever been in. (I later found out that The Westin has their own signature Heavenly® Beds, no wonder I slept so well!) When I go back to The Westin (and I will be going back), I will absolutely be booking a sunset picnic again.

Sometimes The Best Way To Relax Is With Intentional Stress

I am the kind of person who finds it challenging to sit still. Lounging on a beach all day is hard for me, and I find it much more enjoyable to go hiking, snorkeling, or, in this trip’s case, ziplining. As a person with a healthy fear of heights, I can confidently say that my stress levels were raised!

After about a 20-minute scenic ride, we arrived at Canopy River, where we ziplined across the mountains 11 times before taking a donkey ride back to the top. If you find yourself here, make sure to check out Jorullo Bridge after your ziplining tour. It’s the longest suspension bridge in the world, and offers some great views!

Young male traveler walking across suspension bridge in puerto vallarta, mexico

The tallest zipline was 500ft in the air and 1500ft long! Certainly enough to kick up my cortisol levels, but it was a blast! After the initial fear wore off, the views offered while suspended between two mountains were almost therapeutic. The rest of my day felt so calm after starting it off with such a rush. In fact, I spent several hours lounging next to the pool, reading a book. Something I usually wouldn’t be able to do for very long.

The pool of the westin puerto vallarta in mexico

The Most Relaxing Day Of 2022

It’s been a busy year for me, and life has changed drastically since the start of 2022. I set many goals for myself, and I’ve basically worked nonstop to meet them. In the midst of that, it’s been difficult to allow myself to relax. However, during my third day at The Westin, I reached a level of tranquility I hadn’t achieved in ages.

This will likely come as a surprise to no one, but my most relaxing day of 2022 began with a trip to The Westin Spa. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say it was the best massage of my life. Before beginning, I was asked if I had any areas that needed special attention, and I definitely did. My neck has been stiff for months, and I’ve been too busy with life to really do anything about it. My therapist nodded and said they would take care of it, and they did! For the first time in months, I could bend my neck completely without any pain.

The westin pv view looking up from the ground at the palm trees

After the massage, I spent another hour taking advantage of the steam room, sauna, and sleep room, where I was able to fall asleep for about 30 minutes. When I finally decided to leave (and it took some convincing!), I felt like I was floating. Not many things can get me to completely unwind, but The Westin Spa (thankfully) gave me no choice.

Tips For A Relaxing Time In Downtown Puerto Vallarta

While I can’t recommend The Westin enough, it’s worth getting off the property to explore some of the surrounding areas. Staying at The Westin makes this very easy. To check out the immediate area, I’d recommend renting a Move Well bike from the front desk. The roads and sidewalks around the resort are all very bike friendly, and it’s the perfect way to wake yourself back up after a life-changing massage.

For a more unique experience, I highly recommend checking out downtown Puerto Vallarta, particularly the Malecón, a 12-block boardwalk along the ocean. One of the coolest parts about downtown is that every street is historic, as they have all retained their original cobblestone structure.

Volkswagen Bug on cobblestone streets of pv at night

After the sun goes down, I suggest taking an after-dark taco tour with Vallarta Food Tours. My new favorite way to take in a new place is via food tours, and this was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Just like the food tour I recently took in Old San Juan, it was a history lesson in disguise, and I felt like I knew the city on a much deeper level afterward. Plus, as a solo traveler, food tours are a fantastic way to see more of the city with a group to meet new people and make friends!

Going with a group, and especially with a guide, is one of the most relaxing ways to take in a new place. You are with someone who knows the area really well, and you don’t have to worry about checking your phone every few seconds to make sure you are going in the right direction. Plus, walking around at night alone can be uncomfortable. Taking a food tour with a group is a great way to see the city at night when it is most alive without going it alone.

    I’ll Be Back

This was one of the best trips — and certainly the most relaxing — that I have ever taken. Since the airport was only 5 minutes away and the hotel could arrange transport, I had zero worry about making it to the airport on time. I still feel refreshed, and I’ve been home for a week! I went to Puerto Vallarta not knowing what to expect, and, as usual, life surprised me. I left with a refreshed mind and body, wonderful new friends, and an appreciation for fully unplugging every once in a while.

One thing is certain. I can’t wait to go back.

  • Here’s Why Jamaica Is The Best Caribbean Vacation This Fall

Here’s Why Jamaica Is The Best Caribbean Vacation This Fall

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

Proving it has made a stellar comeback from the pandemic, Jamaica has been proclaimed the Best Caribbean vacation this year at the 2022 Travel Awards – namely, the tourism industry’s equivalent to the Oscars. Hosting a number of luxury resorts and an enviable collection of pristine beaches, the country is approaching the peak of its popularity.

Male Tourist Relaxing By The Beach In Jamaica, Caribbean Travel Concept

A well-developed tourism hub known both for its natural offer and Afro-Caribbean culture, including the Bacchanal, a world-famous Carnival celebration, the paradise island has been experiencing a surge in bookings lately. These have been attributed to Jamaica’s relaxed measures and accessibility, with numerous nonstop flights from the U.S.

Now, the continuation of Jamaica’s years-long reign as Caribbean leader has been confirmed in spite of a two-year disadvantage:

Jamaica Is The Leading Caribbean Destination This Year

Female Photographer Taking A Picture Of The Jamaican Nature, Jamaica

Mexico may have been crowned the unofficial King of Tourism worldwide in the post-Covid travel scene, based on arrival figures, but it’s Jamaica that has come out ahead as the definite winner in the tourism excellence department. Facing off heavy competition, including from Mexico, Caribbean gem half the awards at this year’s World Travel Awards.

The ceremony was auspiciously held in Montego Bay, Jamaica’s own leading international destination. In total, the country walked away with 26 out of 52 awards, including Leading Caribbean Destination, a status it’s held for a record 16 consecutive years, warding off the Riviera Maya, the nomad hub of Costa Rica, and fellow insular competitors like the Dominican Republic.

Paradise Beach In Jamaica, Caribbean Sea

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism received the news warmly by adding ‘the feeling of satisfaction is stronger this year’ because Jamaica ‘fought’ to recover from Covid. Even though it was one of the first countries to reopen borders in the wake of the crisis, due to its heavy dependence on American dollars, Jamaica imposed stricter travel rules up until recently.

However, on April 14, the island scrapped all entry requirements, allowing unvaccinated U.S. citizens to visit without pre-departure tests once more. Naturally, the move led demand to skyrocket, with Montego Bay outpacing every single city of the Caribbean league in terms of recovery. It should come as no surprise, then, Jamaica has swept the award show.

Why Has Jamaica Won In All Of These Categories?

A Young Woman In Blue Lagoon In Jamaica

For Mr. Donovan White, the Director of Jamaica’s Tourist Board, this is a testament to the quality of the services provided, ‘from the largest of hotel chains’ to tour operators and other industry agents. In fact, the Round Hill Hotel and Villas has won its 14th consecutive, and 18th Best Villa prize overall.

Additionally, the country has an edge on the nature front, being home to numerous natural parks and blue flag beaches. As we have detailed before, now that restrictions have finally been abolished in a majority of countries, travelers are looking for natural world experiences and more relaxing experiences, two things that are effectively synonymous with Jamaica.

Young Male Kayaking Down A River In Jamaica

Here’s six other reasons why Jamaica is the best pick for a sunny getaway:

    • Montego Bay has been named the best airport to fly into in the Caribbean

It seems the soaring cost of travel is no match for Sin City’s appeal. While many believed the entertainment capital would suffer heavy losses amid the cost of living crisis, when purchasing power and travel demand inevitably drop, Las Vegas has never been hotter, both figuratively and literally, being named the happiest city to vacation in the U.S. this year.

Recently, we have received reports of hidden hotel fees skyrocketing, as well as other price hikes across a number of venues as the busy destination struggled to come to terms with a surge in arrival figures, and the unstable economy. Even then, the entertainment capital far exceeded expectations, with tourism increasing by a surprising 37% in 2022 alone.

Now, Club Med has an explanation for all this Vegas love, which hasn’t faded in the slightest in spite of a turbulent year:

How Have Experts Come To This Conclusion?

Tourists In A Venetian Gondola In Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

Club Med is a travel operator known for offering luxury all-inclusive vacations around the world. Yearly, they reveal the world’s ‘Top 10 Happiest Holiday Destinations’, based on metrics that travelers normally take into account when planning a trip. Yes, ‘happy’ isn’t just an abstract idea: according to Club Med, it can be measured.

One of them is ‘safety levels’. As the group states, the lower crime rates are, the more ‘at ease’ tourists feel when traveling. Notably, security has been a cause of concern for Americans visiting a number of places in Mexico lately, with some major cities south of the border deemed risky destinations, including Guanajuato and Guadalajara.

Now more than ever, travelers are acting with caution. Other than the crime and safety indexes, important factors considered for the survey were:

    • Pollution Index
    • Cost of domestic beers*
    • Number of outdoor activities per 100,000 population
    • Number of day trips per 100,000 population
    • Number of spa and wellness centers per 100,000 population
    • LGBTQ+ friendliness
    • Overall happiness score

Conducting the research, Med Club resorted to ‘multiple sources’, compiling data on 50 of the most visited destinations globally. For instance, their pollution, crime and cost of beer data can be traced back to Numbeo, while Tripadvisor provided the ratio for outdoor activities, day trips and availability of wellness centers.

Lastly, Nomadlist is referenced for information on the happiness levels of individual cities and their openness to diversity – namely, how well LGBTQ+ travelers are perceived, and whether there are sexually-diverse activities and events. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Las Vegas ranked at number two within the top ten – the highest-charting in the U.S. and North America.

With an index of 73.7/100 among surveyed U.S. destinations, and 67.1/100 in the international ranking, Vegas faces off heavy competition from places like New Orleans, Washington and Nashville domestically, as well as Barcelona (Spain) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) globally. In case you were wondering, this is why Sin City remains at the top of its game:

Vegas Love Is At An All-Time High

View Of The Las Vegas Hotel Strip, Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

Vegas is simply the place to be if you’re looking for unique experiences, one of the most important items assessed on this research. Considering other data from Hostelworld, which concluded that, in a post-pandemic world, 74 per cent of travelers are favoring natural world experiences, we can definitely see why Vegas is still such a strong name.

Not only it is a global hub known for the opulence of its top-rated luxury hotels lining the iconic Vegas Strip, and lively nightlife, it is the official gateway into the Nevada wilderness. As Club Med affirms, there are over 40 outdoor activities listed in Vegas and the surrounding zones, explaining its popularity among both partygoers and nature lovers.

    Paria Canyon, Nevada, United States

Within close proximity to the Grand Canyon National Park, it serves as a hub for millions of adventurers seeking to explore America’s desolate, most famous landscape. Some of the tours visitors can book through Tripadvisor include:

    • Deluxe helicopters tours of the Grand Canyon
    • 7-day VIP tours of the Grand Canyon
    • Kayak tours of the Emerald Cove
    • Mojave Desert day trip
    • Antelope Canyon
    • Primm Valley and Hidden Valley

On the safety front, Club Med mentions it has a ‘high safety score’, corroborating other findings that the Nevada jewel is, indeed, a ‘low risk’ destination. Unlike these other five vacation spots, where the risk of getting scammed is substantially higher, you’ll be under no particularly high threat from robbers strolling Downtown Vegas.

Woman Observing Hotel's View In Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

Lastly, Vegas is an LGBTQ+ haven, featuring countless inclusive bars, clubs, and even gay resorts. It is also home to some of the nation’s most sought-after live attractions: stars like Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, widely recognized as gay icons, all had, or still have concert residencies in the city.

Perfect for all traveler profiles, Vegas is without a question the happiest vacation destination in America, and this far outweighs its biggest weakness: low affordability. Even then, we find it unlikely those dreaming of a Vegas adventure, and carefully planning it, are doing so on a super strict budget.

After all, this is a city synonymous with splurging.

Mexico is a beautiful and versatile country with so much culture, nature, and fascinating locations to explore. Mexicans enjoy their local experiences and choose the best destinations for holidays and vacations.

If you love Mexico, a new report might provide more insights on what to do and what to visit in this fascinating country. The online travel agency Best Day recently shared data about Mexicans’ vacation habits.

According to the information shared by the Mexican travel news site Reportur, in the report, Best Day shared the top 9 destinations for locals:

    • Cancún
    • Acapulco
    • Puerto Vallarta
    • Playa del Carmen
    • Riviera Maya
    • Riviera Nayarit
    • Ixtapa
    • Mazatlán
    • Huatulco

The report studied Mexican searches and reservations and those were the most visited during the last few weeks. Santiago Elijovich, Best Day Vicepresident, said: “Mexicans really want to go on vacation and summer is an ideal time to do it. This was reflected in this season’s sales since we obtained an increase of 68% compared to the summer of 2021, which makes us very happy”

It is not a surprise that top destinations like Cancun, Acapulco, and Puerto Vallarta rank among the first results. We’ve also noticed common grounds with American vacation interests: Cancun ranked as the most popular destination for American travelers

    Mexicans Prefer Beach Destinations

Best Day’s report stated that Mexicans prefer beach destinations. The top 9 locations are famous for the beautiful beaches with delicious weather and pristine waters, and represent 70% of the sales for vacation purchases made by Mexicans.

The travel agency also highlighted that 40% of Mexicans prefer to book vacation bundles —including hotels and transportation or tours—, and 33% only hotels. The average stay in the Mexican Caribbean is 5 days and on the Pacific coast 4 days. Mexicans have also made reservations for 3 to 4 people on average, demonstrating that summer is ideal for family vacations.

Best Day’s CEO, Alejandro Calligaris, said that it was a good sign to see Mexican travelers’ interest increase. Calligaris stated: “Surviving this crisis and learning from it points us to several opportunities for the future. It became clear that, after so many restrictions, people really want to travel, and it is a dream that we can make come true. And that comes with new travel habits, which we have to be aware of.”

Mexicans and foreign visitors are eager to enjoy the beauty and the relaxing benefits of the spectacular Mexican beaches.

    About The Top 9 Destinations

After the pandemic, travel became a necessity and an urgent matter for millions of people worldwide. Now, the industry is having a hard time meeting the needs of tourists and passengers.

The current global crisis and uncertainty about the future are making travelers think carefully about their next destination and be more careful with money.

But where should American travelers go? What’s the smart move? According to a recent report published by Squaremouth, the answer is: away from the United States.

The document states: “The average cost of a domestic trip is roughly $500 more than an international trip.”

The travel insurance comparison company analyzed data proving that domestic travel can be more expensive than international travel and shared relevant insights for travelers:

    U.S. Travel Is Expensive

It’s not only Squaremouth’s report. Recent news stories have also demonstrated that domestic travel can be more expensive than international travel.

Top destinations in the United States have become very expensive. This year, flights to New York have soared through the roof and a few domestic flights to this destination have even doubled their price.

In Las Vegas, Resorts and hotels keep hiding and increasing absurd fees, charging travelers for many basic services —like minibar use or internet connection— and making stays more expensive than in previous years. And Hawaii has the most expensive hotels in the United States.

But there’s no need to panic. According to the information analyzed by Squaremouth, the good news is that despite the current global state, the average trip cost in the US has decreased this 2022, compared to the previous three years. Vacations are a little less expensive than before.

These were the average trip costs in the United States shared:

    • In 2019: Around $6,000.
    • In 2020: Around $5,800.
    • In 2022: Around $5,300.

However, the study shows that even if domestic trip costs have decreased this year, international travel to some fascinating destinations can be cheaper.

Top International Destinations For American Travelers

Squaremouth.com also shared its “Live Travel Insurance Data”, a comparison engine, that shows travel trends and recent costs.

Megan Moncrief, Chief Marketing Officer at the company explained more about this tool:  “Squaremouth Analytics studies data from thousands of travel insurance policies on a daily basis. Our team dissects this data to identify real-time changes and trends in the industry and to understand the major concerns for today’s consumers and how they are responding to the current travel market.”

Considering the last 90 days, these are America’s favorite international destinations and the average trip cost:

    • Italy: $5,900.
    • Mexico: $2,868.
    • Israel: $2,519.
    • France: $4,598.
    • Philippines: $1,737.
    • Canada: $3,046.
    • Spain: $4,387.
    • United Kingdom: $4,331.
    • Germany: $4,294.

Fascinating and trendy destinations like Mexico and the Philippines are considerably cheaper than domestic travel. Other places mentioned in the study did not rank in the top 10 but are also interesting for travelers —like Costa Rica and the Turks and Caicos Islands— and less expensive.

The report also showed that other countries that US travelers also enjoy visiting can be very expensive. For example, a trip to Greece costs Americans around $7,600.

    More Travel Recommendations

When it comes to choosing a destination, there are many factors considered in the decision-making process. Those who cannot travel abroad can benefit from relevant information online to reduce costs.

People considering traveling by car can avoid the most expensive cities to rent a car like  Spokane or Portland or prefer airports with the cheapest fares like Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport or Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). Considering the best times to book flights is also valuable.

Those traveling abroad can reduce vacation costs even more by visiting cities that offer a great cultural experience but also low-priced hotels and restaurants or where US dollars can reach further.

The top trending vacation destinations around the world have been revealed. By calculating the increases in search volume for travel destinations on the popular social media site Pinterest, trend experts WeThrift have worked out which destinations around the world are trending amongst travelers and could be set to welcome huge crowds this summer. Here’s a look at the top trending destinations – and what you need to be able to visit.

Top Trending Destinations – Information For Travelers

    Porto

Research carried out by WeThrift found that Porto, Portugal was the top trending destination in the world, with a 62% increase in searches on Pinterest.

A quintessential European weekend break destination, the colorful riverside town is more than worth a trip for any traveler, with millions flocking there to enjoy its famous pastries and traipse around its cobbled streets. To enter Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery, or a negative Covid-19 test result (taken within 72 hours for PCR tests or 48 hours for rapid antigen tests).

    Corfu

Close behind Porto was the Greek island of Corfu, which had a 61% increase in search volume. With its pristine coastline, dramatic sheer rock faces, deep blue sea – and not to mention fresh, healthy cuisine – it’s easy to see why Corfu looks set to be a hit this summer. It’s also extremely easy to visit, with Greece having removed all of its Covid-19 related entry requirements.

    Lake Como

With a 44% increase in searches, Italy’s spectacular Lake Como is the third most trending destination. With views of the huge, sprawling lake long since dominating the social media pages of travel bloggers and pages alike, it seems as though all that daydreaming of escaping to Como during lockdown is set to come true this summer. Like with Portugal, travelers must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative Covid-19 test result in order to be able to enter.

    Mallorca

Known for its beaches, Spanish architecture, and wineries, the Spanish island of Mallorca is trending with a 35% increase in searches. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca’s charms have been wooing Europeans for decades, and is now firmly in the crosshairs of travel-starved people the world over. Travelers to Spain must be fully vaccinated – with a booster if the latest shot was taken more than nine months ago. The country recently made changes to allow unvaccinated travelers to enter with a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 24 hours.

    Mykonos

The second Greek island to feature on the list, it seems travelers have been dreaming posing amongst a backdrop of traditional blue and white Greek buildings once more. Searches for Mykonos rose 32%, with the island equally as popular with young people embracing the party side of then as it is with families looking for a more laid-back experience.

    tourists shopping in Mykonos, Greece

Few cities are as breathtaking as Istanbul – an opinion clearly shared by the masses as it received a 26% increase in searches. The city has it all; from the historical remnants of empires gone by littered all over the city, to a thriving nightlife scene – not to mention sprawling bazaars, passionate locals and stunning views – Istanbul is worthy of a place on any traveler’s list. Fully vaccinated travelers with proof don’t need to test before entering, whilst unvaccinated travelers must show either a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 48 hours.

Having long since established itself as a firm favorite amongst travelers the world over, the most famous party island in the world looks set to go back into full swing this summer, with interest in Ibiza soaring by 26%. Like Mykonos, there’s more to their island than its clubs, with the north end proving to be much calmer and its beautiful beaches catering to all types of traveler.

    Ibiza Party Boat

With the vast majority of Thailand’s entry hurdles now removed, the wildly popular destination is back in business. Searches for Phuket – the country’s largest and most popular island – rose by 26%, with travelers keen to explore the nightlife of Patong or scenic beaches of Rawai, Kata and Nai Harn once more. All travelers to Thailand must have a Thailand Pass, which can be applied for here – but it looks as if this requirement could be on its way out over the next few weeks.
