Low exchange rates have always been a tempting reason for travelers to visit a destination. The cost of souvenirs, hotel stays, restaurants, and even splurging on a private tour doesn’t hit as hard when your home currency in a foreign country gives you more bang for your buck.

And as the exchange rate between the Euro and USD hit a new low in recent months – the lowest it’s been in over 5 years – American travelers have a chance to save during a trip to Europe this summer.

USD-Euro Conversion Rate Forecast For 2022

According to a report in Yahoo Finance, this new low doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon. The US dollar already jumped to 1.04 for 1 euro from 1.05 earlier this week, and some financial experts are predicting that the value of the euro will continue to drop until it’s at par with the US dollar by the end of the year.

What does this mean when it comes to travel? It means that things will be a little easier for budgeting an upcoming trip to Europe.

Travel Is More Open (And More Expensive) Than It’s Been In Two Years

The low euro/USD exchange rate comes as good news for US travelers looking to take a Europe trip this summer.

With flight prices for international and domestic trips rising around the world, not to mention the US inflation rate being at an almost 40-year high, budgeting for that much-needed summer adventure this year may seem a little more complicated.

Just as travel bounced back, in some ways it seems less accessible.

As travel restrictions are being lifted throughout most of the continent, it’s the easiest it’s been for American travelers to visit Europe in over two years since the start of the pandemic.

From scrapping those ongoing entry requirements to removing mask mandates in outdoor as well as indoor public spaces (including flights in Europe), travelers can prepare for a much more stress-free travel experience when it comes to the technical side of things.

Travel To Europe On The Cheap In 2022

Over the past few years, the USD/euro exchange rate has typically averaged at around 1.20. Higher exchange rates can really add up for your daily expenses. Whether it’s booking your last-minute hotel stay in Rome, a train trip from Germany to France, or breakfast at a local cafe in Paris, a steep exchange rate during the euro and the dollar can hit hard when reviewing your travel budget.

As the euro and US dollar inches to being at par, US travelers can save almost 20% on their vacation to Europe in 2022. On top of choosing a more affordable European destination this year to combat the rising flight prices and inflation, the low exchange rate is another opportunity for travelers to stay on budget.

Average Prices In Western Europe In 2022:

To give travelers a rough estimate on how much the low exchange rate can impact their vacation, here’s a look at the average prices of goods in France and Spain.

Remember that this exchange rate counts for countries in Europe where the euro is the main form of currency (this includes the countries of Sweden, Denmark, Croatia, Czechia, Norway, and Poland, for instance).

Average cost of goods in France:
- Cappuccino: 2.80 euros
- Bus: 1.60 euros
- Baguette: 1 euro
- Bottle of soda (12 oz): 2.60 euros
- Pint of local beer: 6 euros
- Taxi: 2.50 euros starting and 2.85 extra mile
Average cost of goods in Spain:

Loaf of bread: 0.91 euro
Cappuccino: 1.65 euros
Local beer: 3 euros
Bottle of soda: 1.78 euros

In the last year, the consumer price index for airline tickets has shot up by 25% — the largest jump since the Federal Reserve of St. Louis began tracking the index in 1989. In April alone, airfares spiked by 18.6%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Even though airline prices are soaring, Americans aren’t hesitating to break out their credit cards and book a trip. A recent Bank of America Institute survey showed spending at airlines and travel agencies is up a whopping 60% year-over-year.

At the same time, as Americans continue to grapple with 40-year high inflation rates and resource-strapped airlines work to get more planes in the air, traveling on a budget seems to be nearly impossible.

Flight prices are pushing travelers to the breaking point

Since the beginning of the pandemic, many airlines have been drowning in debt and struggling to return to a state of profitability.

Now, with travel restrictions easing across the world and higher operating costs to deal with (like higher jet fuel prices), airlines are desperate to serve travel-deprived consumers — and for a major profit.

This is extremely evident when looking at domestic airfares across the country. Many Americans are looking for domestic travel to enjoy their vacations this year but the cost of some airfares is simply out of control.

These are the top 5 most affordable U.S. airports for domestic flights

NetCredit analyzed data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to identify the average cost of a flight from major airports around the country.

Many of us default to the biggest airports when searching for flight deals. But prices vary even between the big commercial hubs, and you can often find a cheaper or quicker option nearby.

Competition is a major factor though, with prices often cheaper at big airports with multiple airlines or rival airports nearby. Plus, airlines see some airports as hubs for business travelers who are less choosy about higher fares.

So it does pay off to do some research. Take a look at these 5 most affordable U.S. airports for domestic flights.

5. Punta Gorda, Florida

Average Domestic Fare: $142.48

4. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway, Arizona

Average Domestic Fare: $137.61

3. St. Pete-Clearwater Intl. , Florida

Average Domestic Fare: $130.61

2. Orlando Sanford Intl.

Average Domestic Fare: $118.79

1. Atlantic City Intl.

Average Domestic Fare: $109.43

Atlantic City Intl is the cheapest US airport in NetCredit’s study. But Florida airports dominate the cheap list, making Florida the second-cheapest state on average.

As a tourist hotspot, Florida has more hub airports than any other state, ensuring strong inter-airline competition which is partially responsible for airfare affordability.

Be smart and book ahead to save on airline tickets

Remember the three golden rules of booking cheap flights:
- Book ahead: 95 to 21 days in advance. This booking zone consistently yields the lowest prices for travelers (within 5% of the lowest ticket price).
- …but check third-party discount sites for last-minute reductions if a late booking is unavoidable.
- Be flexible – Research found that flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are cheaper than weekend bookings.
At the end of the day, flying domestically this summer can get very pricey, but if you do your research and compare prices out of different airports, you can save yourself a lot of money.

For example, Los Angeles Intl (LAX) can be pricey. But there are six airports in California that are cheaper than LAX. Long Beach Airport is just a 20-minute drive away and offers California’s cheapest flights from its single, terminal.

Canadian Airlines Announce New International And Domestic Flight Routes

Airlines are ramping up flights to new destinations around the world, and Canadian airlines are no different.

This week, the major Canada-based airlines WestJet and Air Transat announced the launch of some inaugural nonstop routes to European destinations. The new flights include services to Rome, Amsterdam, and London’s Gatwick International Airport. We’ve got all the information for you below.

WestJet’s New Route Between Calgary And Rome

Are you living in western Canada and dreaming of Italy this summer? If so, you’ll be happy to hear that WestJet’s home city of Calgary is now better connected to Europe with the launch of the new flight route between Calgary and Rome on Saturday, May 7th.

The route was originally scheduled to launch in May of 2020 but was suspended due to the pandemic.

“With its rich history and culture, it is no surprise that our guests are eager to visit Rome. We are thrilled to provide Western Canadians with increased connectivity to this incredible city. We are also excited to bring guests from Rome to visit Canada and assist with the recovery of Canada’s vital tourism industry,” said Angela Avery, WestJet’s Executive Vice President of External Affairs at the launch of the new flight.

The direct connection between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Rome-Fiumicino International Airport (FCO) with WestJet is currently scheduled to operate until November 4, 2022 and will resume on March 16, 2023.

At this time, nonstop flights between the two destinations are available two times per week. You can check WestJet’s homepage for more details.

Italy has also been dropping some of its entry requirements for travelers, so visiting the country is much easier than its been compared to the previous two years.

Air Transat Launches New Routes To Amsterdam And London

Just in time for the summer tourist season (and due to traveler demand), Air Transat has launched a new direct flight service between Montreal and Amsterdam.

This inaugural route on the popular vacation airline is the first of its kind in Canada, with Air Transat being the only Canadian-based passenger flight carrier to offer nonstop service to these two destinations.

Flights will operate on a new, more eco-friendly plane – the new-generation Airbus A321neoLR, which is 15% more fuel-efficient than other passenger carriers.

This new flight launch means that Air Transat now offers nonstop services from Toronto and Montreal to the Dutch capital city. Flights will operate three times per week, and are currently scheduled until mid-October in accordance with the high travel season.

The airline also launched another inaugural flight route this week between Quebec City (YQB) and London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW), with direct weekly flights available until late September on the airline. This new route marks the second direct connection between Quebec City and Europe on Air Transat, the other one being QC City to Paris, France.

Air Transat Ramping Up More Flights For Summer 2022

The Canadian vacation airline is also set to relaunch 25 of its routes to Europe by June 2022. Air Transat currently offers six flight routes between Canada and Europe.

With the gradual restart for summer 2022, Air Transat will provide flight services to 15 destinations throughout Europe from Toronto Pearson Airport. Destinations will include Dublin, Lisbon, Glasgow, Zagreb, and more.

16 European destinations will also be available from Montreal, including nonstop flights to Athens, Brussels, Madrid, as well as a number of destinations throughout France.

Swoop, Air North Launch New Domestic Routes

On top of the resumption of international routes to Europe from Canada, ultra-low-cost carrier Swoop has launched its first-ever service from Hamilton to New Brunswick. Flights are currently scheduled four times per week for summer 2022.

This new route is one of 11 inaugural routes that will be available on Swoop to Canada’s East Coast, in an effort to boost tourism to the region after an over two-year closure.

Mexico Government Asks U.S. To Stop Including Tourist Spots In Travel Advisories

Standing up for its tourism sector, currently plagued by numerous reports of increased violence in popular destinations, the Mexican Government has formally asked the United States to not ‘generalize’ when issuing travel advisories.

Namely, it has suggested any alerts affecting whole cities and/or states should be more specific.

Although Mexico unarguably remains a top rated holiday destination for millions of Americans, security concerns raised by U.S. authorities have led to speculation the country may no longer be as safe. Even in Cancun, where the National Guard has been deployed to keep tourists safe, the advisories have proven particularly damaging.

Now, Mexico is fiercely defending its hard-earned reputation as a tourist oasis:

Mexico Wants More Transparency From U.S. Authorities On Travel Warnings

Having succeeded in the mission of crowning Mexico one of the most visited countries in the world after Covid, Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco is now working to tackle the scrutiny the country’s security forces have been under lately. Despite Mexico’s best efforts, many now believe it is a country to be avoided due to high crime rates.

The change in perception can be attributed to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory, which lists only two Mexican states out of 32 as being completely safe for American travelers, those being Campeche and Yucatan. Comparatively, travel warnings have been slapped on all other major tourist zones, including Quintana Roo, Baja California Sur and Jalisco.

As stated on the Travel Advisory, Americans should either reconsider, or exercise increased caution when traveling to these destinations due to crime and even risk of kidnapping. Foreseeing the trouble ahead, Torruco requested a meeting with Rena Bitter, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs.

During the Washington meeting, where other concerns were also debated, Torruco suggested that the travel alerts issued by the U.S. Department of State should be more specific in their classification of risk zones in Mexico. As Torruco puts it, they should ‘detail the areas that could represent problems and not generalize’.

While the Travel Advisory is quite extensive, and security alerts are somewhat more detailed under every Mexican state’s designated section, it does fail to define more precisely which neighborhoods, or zones, are affected by crime in relevant cities.

Instead, the U.S. Department of State opts for advising Americans to be cautious when visiting them as a whole.

Quintana Roo Is One Of The Destinations Targeted By The U.S. Department Of State

Let’s take the example of Quintana Roo: the advisory mentions ‘criminal activity and violence may occur in any location, at any time, including in popular tourist destinations’. On top of that, the advisory states travelers should exercise ‘increased caution’, especially after dark, when walking downtown Cancun, Tulum or Playa del Carmen.

There may be a grain true in it, but the same could be said about any other destination, or any other country. Like Torruco affirmed, ‘some isolated cases of insecurity are found several kilometers from tourist destinations’, bringing into question the U.S. Department of State’s classification of Quintana Roo’s top 3 cities as unsafe.

While we could expect Torruco to defend Quintana Roo’s honor, we also know that there have been shootings in tourist zones, including inside luxury complexes, giving some weight to the U.S. classification.

However, in his defense, they have not targeted tourists and are instead a result of gang disputes, something even the United States acknowledges.

The Mexican Government Is Prepared To Deal With Violence Surges In Tourist Spots

Despite clear disagreements as to what constitutes a safe tourist destination, Torruco considered the meeting ‘cordial’ and found ‘openness and willingness to take up the suggestion’. Meanwhile, Mexico has been taking further steps to quash the crime trend, including cracking down on corrupt police that have been known to extort tourists.

Torruco also personally handed Bitter a document describing actions taken by municipal, state and federal authorities to protect American tourists in Quintana Roo, hoping the U.S. would reconsider its travel warnings. Or then, in the least, concede that the Mexican Government is prepared to deal with the violence surge.

Lastly, he noted 3.18 million Americans have traveled to Mexico during the first quarter of the year, highlighting the close links between the two North American countries and the need for cooperation on safety issues.

So far, the U.S. Department of State is yet to make significant changes to its classification of Mexican states, though any updates will be published here.

The platform now includes a category feature and a split house function

The American Company Airbnb recently made major updates to its platform. Now, every user who visits the official website, will find a six minutes film where Brian Chesky, Co-founder and CEO, explains the new features and shows travelers a new lifestyle.

On Wednesday, Chesky announced “the biggest change to Airbnb in a decade”, during the company’s virtual summer event, which includes a new search function called “categories”, a new feature called “split homes”, and new travel insurance for guests called “AirCover”. The website and app have been redesigned to showcase the company’s new strategy.

These recent updates allow travelers to expand experiences and discover new exotic locations adapted to their needs and lifestyles. According to the information shared in a press release, Airbnb is adapting to what travelers and remote workers currently need.

Chesky explained the reasons for the new features: “First, people are more flexible about where they live and work, so we’ve designed a new way to search with Airbnb Categories. Second, people are taking longer trips, so we created Split Stays to give you more options by splitting your trip between two homes. And third, we’re introducing AirCover for guests, giving you the confidence to book knowing that Airbnb’s got your back.”

Since last year, the company has been making updates and optimizing services— they made 150 upgrades in 2021— to adapt to the pandemic and satisfy customers. Despite its struggles, the changes have worked and Airbnb’s future is looking brighter. Their business model is currently being adopted by other companies in the travel industry: Marriott is now offering short-term rentals to reach similar audiences

More About Airbnb 2022 Summer Release

Airbnb reported an increase in bookings for summer 2022 of 80% compared to the summer of 2019. The company also noticed different behaviors: longer stays from travelers who work remote and interest in different travel experiences.

Airbnb considers that a new travel era has begun. “We think people are ready to dream again,” said Chesky. The CEO also added: “A lot of people have been sequestered at home for two years. Many people haven’t taken that big trip for the first time. And so we want to encourage people to get out of their house and venture into this big world.”

Here are more details about the new features:
- Airbnb Categories: the new redesign now shows 56 categories of unique homes—from tiny houses to a yellow submarine treehouse— to match users’ interests and help them discover new fascinating listings.
For this feature, the company selected 6 million homes across the world that offer guests special experiences. Travelers will be able to choose their preferred unique homes from categories like “castles”, “caves”, “farms”, homes with “amazing pools”, “mansions”, and even “OMG”.
- Split Homes: Considering that travelers are choosing longer stays, this new feature allows guests to split a trip between two different houses in the same area.
Split stays can be also combined with 14 categories so that travelers can have similar homes or preferred activities. For example, a guest can split stays and find two homes near the coast to surf in different locations in the same region.
- AirCover: This new insurance offers four different types of protection. A booking protection guarantee that finds a guest a similar home in case the host cancels a reservation within 30 days of check-in, a check-in guarantee that finds solutions in case a guest can’t check into the home, a get-what-you-booked guarantee that offers guests alternatives in case the home doesn’t look as advertised, and a 24 hours safety line if a guest doesn’t feel safe in one of the listings.
The new redesign and features of the Airbnb 2022 Summer Release are already live for users in the United States and will be visible from other countries throughout the week. The company created a page where travelers can learn more about the new updates.

The American airline Southwest announced several new changes and service improvements on Wednesday in a press release. The carrier will develop a 5-year plan to optimize customer experience and will invest over two billion dollars to reach all goals.

Southwest Airlines—based in Texas— has recently been awarded the 2022 J.D. Power Award for “Highest Customer Satisfaction” in North America among economy carriers, but its commitment to offer a better service does not rest, according to its most recent statement.

The company published its main changes and goals to modernize customer experience and promised to enhance wifi connectivity onboard, install better technology for power outlets, offer more space for carry-on items, include more entertainment options, enable new self-service features, and will launch a new fare category, the Wanna Get Away Plus.

Bob Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, said: “You can never stop working to get better, and as our beloved Founder Herb famously said, ‘If you rest on your laurels, you’ll get a thorn in your butt!’ We have a long and proud history of offering Legendary Customer Service and warm Hospitality, and we have bold plans and significant investments to modernize and enhance the Southwest Experience.”

The CEO also added: “As we continue to welcome back loyal Customers and win new ones, these initiatives, combined with the best People in the industry, support our Purpose of connecting People to what’s most important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel.”

The low-cost carrier has been expanding its network during the past few weeks, offering routes in the United States and abroad, and now they will also focus on new service improvements.

More About The New Changes

Southwest Airlines stated that they want to offer their clients a better service and that they also listen to complaints and suggestions. Jordan said: “We listen to our customers, and their insights help us deliver on and exceed their expectations.” These are the main new changes and updates:

Better Wifi

The low-cost carrier understands that connectivity has become more important for its customers, and will be upgrading its wifi equipment on their current fleet with provider Anuvu and implementing hardware with 10 times better bandwidth and speed.

This service is already being tested on some routes, and the carrier also announced a collaboration with Viasat, an industry-leading satellite connectivity provider, for higher quality internet and live television.

Useful USB-Chargers

The carrier will install USB-A and USB-C power ports on every seat, without compromising legroom. Tony Roach, Southwest’s Vice President of Customer Experience and Customer Relations, said: “The ability to keep your devices charged while you are connected inflight is a request that we’ve heard consistently in ongoing conversations with our customers.”

Wanna Get Away Plus

This new fare will become available later this month and will bring more flexibility: the ability to transfer travel funds and make same-day seat changes on an available flight between the same origin and destination.

Larger bins

Southwest adjusting space to make more room for carry-on bags and give passengers the option to bring two free carry-on bags —size and weight limitations apply. Next year, travelers will find larger overhead bins for their personal items.

Additional Refreshments

Along with a large beverage selection, the airline will include additional seasonal options like a bloody mary mix during summer, and will also include other alcohol options like hard seltzer and rosé in September.

Lap-child features

Another feature will allow customers to add lap-child travelers when booking online. Currently, the airline also changed its self-service kiosks to allow travelers with lap children to check in.

If you’re traveling to Europe for summer 2022, you should be prepared for long delays – and even potential cancellations – as a new wave of flight disruptions is set to sweep across the continent. This time around, a new Covid variant is not to blame, or at least not directly.

If you have been following all the latest Travel Off Path updates, you may have noticed pandemic reports are becoming fewer and fewer every day, as more countries drop all restrictions and fully return to normal ahead of the highly-anticipated tourist season.

In fact, over 65% of Europe is now open without any Covid curbs in place. On the other hand, staff shortages and a lack of trained personnel seems to have become widespread across the aviation industry, with Europe being poised to face its most chaotic summer in years:

Two Thirds Of Europe To Be Hit With Delays During The Tourist Season

As evidenced on a research released by the European Airports Association (ACI Europe), 66 per cent, or virtually two-thirds of European airports currently foresee delays over summer. Additionally, more than one third expect operations to be affected as a result of staffing constraints, both during summer and well into winter.

As Covid finally subsides, the industry has begun to feel the painful effects of a two year-long pause, which may prove as damaging as the virus itself. While demand was generally being met throughout the pandemic, in spite of the usual setbacks, more passengers are now transiting international airports and transatlantic travel is booming again.

In short, airlines and airports were not ready for such a quick and unexpected rebound, having made a considerable portion of staff redundant over the pandemic. As demand has increased dramatically, they are in turn severely understaffed and struggling to recruit more personnel in time for fulfilling their duties to customers.

Inevitably, this unfortunate scenario has led to flight schedules being trimmed down, and even long delays at border control. Recently, the UK was the first European nation plagued by reports of extremely lengthy waiting times at its outer borders, with tourists waiting in line for hours on end until they are through security.

As Lucy Moreton, a spokesperson for the Immigration Services Union puts it, the UK Border Force is ‘catastrophically understaffed’. Even though new officers are being trained, the process can take up to a whole year, suggesting the infamously long delays could be experienced for months to come.

Poland Has Just Narrowly Averted A Mass Wave Of Flight Cancellations – For Now

In continental Europe, Poland also narrowly averted a spate of flight cancellations following renewed demands from air traffic controllers regarding pay and safety conditions. As airports in Europe cope with a surprising surge in travel, available staff could be working longer hours overseeing operations.

In Poland, over 130 controllers planned to resign at the end of April, in a move that would lead to mass flight cancellations across all of Europe, as several Polish airports are among the continent’s busiest hubs. While this was successfully avoided once a deal was struck, it is an indication the industry may not be fully prepared to deal with the fallout of Covid in the long-term.

Being only the 23rd country to fully scrap entry restrictions, and thus having high hopes for summer, Poland managed to avoid what would have been a true pre-season catastrophe, but will other European nations be as lucky?

For now, it seems likely this is a Europe-wide trend, with Amsterdam’s Schiphol also currently struggling with shortages, while TUI Airways has recently announced it will cut catering on short-haul flights in Europe due to limited staff.

Authorities Urged To Speed Up Security Clearance To Avoid Summer Of Chaos

As a result, several European airports teamed up with ACI Europe and ASA (Airport Services Association) in urging European authorities to speed up security clearance to new employees. In a statement, they claimed current training and security clearance requirements have made it ‘impossible to quickly adapt and deploy additional staff’.

Even though they concede there is ‘no quick and easy fix‘, reducing the waiting period from recruitment to deployment, which currently takes roughly 16 weeks, would allow airports to better prepare for the challenges that lie ahead. Both ACI Europe and ASA are also pleading with airlines to ‘reduce traffic peaks’ and return unused slots ‘as early as possible’.

At the same time, we have all seen what lack of intensive training, or faster security clearance for air traffic controllers with the sole purpose of meeting higher travel demand can lead to, suggesting there is no simple solution for this complex situation.

Sadly, there is no way of knowing for certain which flights, or airports, will be most affected until summer is in full swing. How Travelers Should Prepare For Busy Airports This Summer

As summer 2022 approaches, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preparing for substantial travel numbers. They believe passenger volumes may even exceed that of 2019 for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The TSA’s Statement

TSA Administrator, David Pekoske, said: “Daily passenger volumes at TSA checkpoints show that people are traveling again, and TSA is ready for their return. Our airport security checkpoints include 47,500 highly-trained security professionals and new technologies that enhance security and reduce physical contact,”

“We continue to recruit, retain, train, and equip a highly-skilled workforce, and we work continuously with our airport and airline partners to anticipate and prepare for higher traffic patterns.”

On May 10, six airports and airline partners joined a media roundtable at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to talk about their operational preparedness for the anticipated summer season. They discussed key changes implemented to ensure secure, healthy, and safe travel.

Recently, the TSA has enhanced security at airport screening checkpoints. They deployed two new technologies: Credential Authentication Technology (CAT) and Computed Tomography (CT) scanners to improve identification verification.

In some airports, they’ve added digital identification verification at the Travel Document Checker podium. Both of these additions boost security and reduce physical contact at airports.

The CT units provide TSA officers with a 3D image of a passenger’s bag. As a result, they won’t need to check passengers’ bags as much, meaning fewer waiting times for passengers this summer.

The TSA is currently installing the CT units at Billings Logan International Airport, Albany International Airport in New York, Buffalo Niagara International Airport in New York, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, and Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina.

Travel Tips From The TSA

The TSA has provided all U.S. travelers with some tips to get through the busy summer travel period. These include:

1. Face Masks Are Optional, But Recommended:

The TSA says the CDC still recommends face masks for passengers aged two or older in indoor areas of public transportation and transportation hubs.

The U.S. government recently dropped the mask mandate on public transport. Therefore, travelers don’t legally have to wear masks on public transport – but airlines and the TSA recommend doing so for safety reasons.

2. Pack Smart; Start With Empty Bags

Airline passengers who pack empty bags are less likely to bring illegal items through the TSA checkpoint, according to the TSA. They suggest checking the “What Can I Bring?” page on TSA.gov to see which items are prohibited.

3. Know Before You Go

According to the TSA, airports, like highways, have construction delays and high traffic surges. The TSA recommends that all travelers: “plan to arrive at the airport in plenty of time to check-in, check bags and complete security screening in time to avoid stressful sprints to the departure gate.”

The TSA also suggests all travelers have a valid ID card ready and follow the liquids rule of 3.4 ounces or less. However, they say that hand sanitizer has an exemption because it has a 12-ounce temporary limit in carry-on baggage.

4. Contact The TSA For Help

Finally, the TSA recommends all Americans contact the TSA if they have any questions about traveling this summer.

They say travelers can “get help by tweeting questions and comments to @AskTSA or via Facebook Messenger, on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. EDT and on weekends/holidays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. EDT.”

The TSA also adds: “You can also call the TSA Contact Center at 866-289-9673.”

In Summary

With the world’s biggest cruise ship having recently set sail with passengers for the very first time – here’s what those waiting to board Wonder of the Seas can expect.

Having reported a few months ago that the ship was due to launch back in March, it has since completed its maiden voyage – sailing around both the Eastern and Western sides of the Caribbean on 7-night cruises.

And, with Wonder of The Seas having recently arrived in Europe – with the ship set to sail in the Mediterranean throughout the summer months – many will be wondering what it is actually like on board this monster-sized vessel.

Well, you are in luck – as throughout this article we will take a look at what the ship offers when it comes to places to ‘wine and dine’, relax, keep fit – as well as the variety of entertainment choices on offer to passengers.

How Big Is Royal Caribbean’s Wonder Of The Seas?

It’s not the first time that one of Royal Caribbean’s fleet has earned the title of the world’s biggest cruise ship – with its Symphony of the Seas having previously held it.

In fact, with Wonder of the Seas now in operation the company now owns the world’s five largest ships – with each of them able to accommodate nearly 7,000 passengers at any one time.

So, how big exactly is Wonder of the Seas?

Measuring in at a mammoth 1,118 feet (362m) in length and weighing in at 236,857 tonnes – Wonder of the Seas spans across 18 decks, making it possible to play host to a maximum capacity of 6,988 passengers.

And, this number does not even include crew members – with the ship also having enough space to accommodate up to 2,300 cruise ship staff.

There’s A New Neighborhood On Board

Royal Caribbean’s newest addition – Wonder of the Seas – features a brand new neighborhood on board, which spans over two of the ship’s decks.

Named the ‘Suite Neighborhood’, passengers are able to stay at one of its 188 suites on offer, as well as sit back and relax at one of the neighborhood’s bars and restaurants or soak up the atmosphere at its freshly designed sun deck and infinity-style plunge pool.

The ship also offers seven other neighborhoods to visit on board – with each providing their own unique options for drinking and dining in – along with a variety of entertainment to enjoy.

What Are The Accommodation Options On Board Wonder Of The Seas?

With nearly 3000 cabins on board Wonder of the Seas – 2,867 to be precise – there are a selection of different rooms that can be booked by cruise-goers.

This includes the following staterooms:
- Interior
- Ocean View
- Balcony
- Virtual Balcony

All rooms offer occupants the chance to connect to WiFi, as well as the opportunity to take advantage of the ship’s room service options and spa-like services.

Due to its huge size, Wonder of the Seas is able to offer passengers the opportunity to choose from a selection of swimming pools on board.

This includes the ship’s huge pool deck – which boasts a number of slides, as well as a variety of sun loungers and beds to soak up the sun.

What Are The Entertainment Options Available On Board?

For anyone who is fortunate enough to spend time sailing into the sunset on Wonder of the Seas – there is certainly a wide variety of entertainment options for cruise passengers to enjoy.

This includes:
- an ice rink
- a theater – which can accommodate up to 1400 people at any of its shows
- casinos
- spas
- an outdoor aquatic theater
- rock-climbing walls

- a zip line – which is as high as ten of the ship’s decks
- a variety of bars – including some where you are served by robots
- a children’s water park and playground
- a full-size basketball court
- a running track
- a surf-simulator.
And this is just a taste of what you can expect – with the ship also boasting its Central Park, which features in excess of 10,000 plants.

Royal Caribbean Have Recently Started Construction On Their Next Biggest Ship

These Countries Are Still Ranked As High Travel Risk By the CDC

Top destinations for American travelers such as Canada, Costa Rica, France, and the United Kingdom are on Level 3

A few weeks ago the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States changed its travel advisory levels. “Level 4 Special Circumstances/Do Not Travel”, which used to be the highest risk category is now restricted for extreme cases such as health care infrastructure collapse or if a new COVID-19 variant emerges.

Level 3 is currently called “COVID-19 High” and it is the highest risk category, the destinations on this level are not recommended for travelers. A country is assigned to this level when there have been over 100 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people over the last 28 days. At the moment there are 109 countries in this category, including the British Virgin Islands, a destination added last Monday.

If travelers visit high-risk locations on level 3, they should have their vaccines up to date. CDC considers that those who visit destinations in this category are more likely to get sick from COVID-19, especially without vaccinations or with a weakened immune system.

Despite the ease of travel restrictions worldwide and new routes and services offered by airlines, some popular destinations for American travelers are of high risk. According to the CDC, these top destinations are still on Level 3:
- Aruba
- Belgium
- Canada
- Costa Rica
- Cuba
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Italy
- Portugal
- Spain
- The United Kingdom
The United States is not included in this list but it is also in red color in the map provided by the CDC.

Other Destinations On Level 3

Travelers should stay up to date with travel restrictions and the CDC recommendations. To see all countries included in the list of each category, they must visit the COVID-19 Travel Recommendations by Destination page. But here’s a good summary of the most visited locations.

Perhaps Europe is the continent with the most popular countries for travelers included in the list. The CDC considered these countries of high risk: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, The Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

In the Caribbean, these islands have high levels of COVID-19 according to the information provided by the CDC: Aruba, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curaçao, and Dominica.

In North America, Canada and the United States are also marked as high risk. In Central America, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama; and in the south, the CDC has warned about Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay.

Australia and New Zealand were also flagged as dangerous and, according to the agency, adventurous travelers visiting attractive destinations in Asia should stay cautious before visiting Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives, or Vietnam, also included on level 3.

CDC’s Recommendations

Even though many airlines removed the mask mandate and many countries removed covid–related travel restrictions, the CDC still urges travelers to wear masks during flights, stay up to date with covid vaccines —including boosters—, and consider the destination’s specific travel recommendations.

At the moment, almost 25 countries are in “Level 2: Covid-19 Moderate” —which means 50 to 100 covid cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days. In this category are included attractive destinations such as Mexico, The Bahamas, Fiji, and Paraguay.

Those who prefer to follow the agency’s advice can visit destinations on “Level 1: COVID-19 Low”, which includes countries with 50 or fewer cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people. There are over 50 countries on this list, including attractive destinations like Colombia, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, the Philippines, and India.

The level categories represent a dynamic system that is constantly changing and being updated depending on recent information related to each destination. Revising CDC’s updates and detailed information on a country is a good strategy for travelers who will be visiting foreign countries and want to stay safe.
