What’s more, costs for products and services in the resort area have increased by 15% annually compared to other cities in Mexico.

The 3 elements that have seen the biggest price increases are package tourist services, restaurants and bars, and hotels.

There are 2 reasons why Los Cabos is so pricey for tourists. The first reason is pure practicality. Because Los Cabos is isolated from the rest of the Mexican mainland, it costs more to deliver goods and food.

Secondly, Los Cabos tends to attract more affluent travelers looking for a high-end and luxurious vacation experience, and it is priced to meet this demand.

Americans Are Loving Costa Rica This Spring

Mexico, particularly Cancun, may be Americans’ absolute favorite international beach getaway, but Costa Rica is creeping up and forging its own path.

The Central American paradise teeming with exotic lush jungles, incredible beaches, and insanely beautiful landscapes has already broken tourism records and remains high on Americans’ travel radars.

And springtime is undoubtedly one of the best times of the year to visit. One might think spring is the peak season, but travelers can explore the fascinating country and avoid the crowds in many places.

This is big news for Costa Rica, which is planting its flag as one of the best beach destinations in the world, both literally and figuratively.

Travelers to the country’s scenic beaches may notice more and more blue flags posted at entry points to signify the prestigious award that’s not only hard to obtain, but maintain.

For example, when Los Cabos experienced a hurricane last year, the mega-popular beach destination was at risk of losing its blue flag status if beaches were not cleaned of waste and debris in a timely manner.

Blue flags are distributed by the Blue Flag program, which is highly reputable for promoting and teaching sustainability for both people and our planet.

Receiving a blue flag is no easy task and involves a rigorous process, but ultimately, it signifies that the selected beach is one of the most pristine, clean, and environmentally friendly on the planet.

In 2024, 15 more beaches were honored with the award, as there were 136 Costa Rican beaches awarded last year, which is still pretty impressive.

“The Ecological Blue Flag program and the 151 award-winning beaches are testimony to the country’s institutional and private efforts and commitments to sustainability and the care of nature.

Behind these 151 beaches there are 151 committees that work in a community way to achieve the long-awaited flag in the coastal areas of the North, Middle and South Pacific, as well as in the Caribbean.”

Where To Find Costa Rica’s Blue-Flagged Beaches

As one might expect, blue flags have been divvied up across the nation since there are so many.

According to a new report, this is how blue flags were distributed across Costa Rica:
- 39 blue flags in the Gulf of Nicoya Islands and Puntarenas
- 28 blue flags in the Middle Pacific
- 26 blue flags in North and South Guanacaste
- 24 blue flags in North Guanacaste
- 18 blue flags in the Caribbean
- 16 blue flags in the South Pacific
Additionally, 11 of Costa Rica’s beaches will fly their blue flag proudly with the highest distinction of 5 stars:
- Playa Blanca (Punta Leone)
- West Esterillos
- Playa Blanca (Cahuita National Park)
- Matapalo (Guanacaste)
- Punta del Madero (Guanacaste)
- Playa Blanca, Liberia (Guanacaste).
- Virador (Guanacaste)
- Prieta Beach (Guanacaste)
- Sombrero Beach (Guanacaste)

The Croatian Tuscany

Cavtat lies along a scenic coastline just 11 miles from Dubrovnik, one of the most accessible hubs in the country.

However, Cavtat is actually closer to the airport, which makes it an even more convenient getaway.

Away from the hustle and bustle, this gorgeous town is a place to enjoy the simple pleasures of life à la Tuscany.

Rates through summer are as low as $102 per night, which is a steal of a deal for resorts of this magnitude.

5-star stays are not the only viable option, of course. There are plenty of mid-tier accommodations along with charming villas, but who wouldn’t want to level up at these prices?

Incredible Beaches

It would be hard to find a traveler going to Croatia without mentioning the gorgeous blue waters in this region of the world.

There are ample boat tours as well providing even better views of the than you see from the shoreline.

While the views are never tired to gaze upon, the beaches may be even more enjoyable to go for a swim, snorkeling and even cliff jumps for the more daring adventurers.

Zal is the largest beach with calm waters that are perfect for taking a dip, but those seeking even more seclusion may want to opt for Sustjepan Beach, which is walkable from the town center.

And there’s one beach north of town where beachgoers can, let’s just say go “full Euro” and may find it to be extra breezy.

Historic Sites

Despite being an unsuspecting beachside town, Cavtat is not only known for its laid-back lifestyle and stunning nature of crystal blue waters and scenic mountains.

Tourists can peruse local artisan shops along the scenic waterfront promenade or pay a visit to the Old Town district for more historical sites, such as the Bukovac House Museum.

Local eateries have rave reviews, not only for the quality of their food offerings but also for being the perfect place to watch picturesque sunsets.

While it may seem odd to visit a cemetery on vacation, one of the top-rated attractions on TripAdvisor is the oddly placed Cavtat Cemetery—one of the best viewpoints of the city and even offers tours.

4 Paradise Beach Destinations To Escape Sargassum Season This Summer

Sargassum is making a comeback sooner than expected this year, and a powerful one at that, threatening to ruin vacation plans for thousands of travelers.

It may not be life-threatening, but for the average beachgoer, it does something even worse:

The proliferation of the foul-smelling seaweed tarnishes the typically-pristine beaches, accumulating in large deposits on the white sands like stains, and at times, they spread so disruptively beaches have to be closed so more intense cleaning can be carried out.

Still, there are four incredible beach hotspots where sargassum is unlikely to be a major concern for you if it will be a concern at all:

Los Cabos

A laid-back leisure destination in the Mexican Pacific, the twin cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, which together form the upscale ‘Los Cabos‘, are best known for their luxury hotels, world-renowned wellness scene and abundant nature.

It is where several iconic natural wonders are located, including marine preserve Cabo Pulmo and the ‘Arco’ in Cabo San Lucas, an arched rock formation rising out of the azure waters, and it’s been challenging Cancun for the title of Mexico’s number one resort spot for a while now.

The fact that Cabo does not see any seaweed may help it overtake the Quintana Roo giant in the coming months, as the Pacific is colder than the tropical Caribbean, which is part of the Atlantic, where sargassum originates.

In short, the worrying phenomenon is not observed in Cabo, and the beaches remain an unspoiled shade of gold year-round.

Mazatlan

A fast-growing beach destination in the state of Sinaloa, Mazatlan also straddles the Pacific coast, meaning sargassum should be the last of your concerns when vacationing here.

Additionally, the beaches are remarkably clean, as ‘Maz’ is nowhere near as popular as jam-packed Cancun.

If you’re looking for charming coastal zones to bask in that Mexican sun, the Golden Zone and Cerritos should be at the top of your bucket list.

Teeming with sunbathers and swimmers this time of year, they offer foreign visitors a lively social scene, as well as a high concentration of beachfront restaurants, with the best seafood you’ll ever have, and relatively affordable condo rentals.

Besides being sargassum-free, Mazatlan’s true charm lies in its mix of Modern and Old Worlds: the historic center is dominated by colorful colonial-era buildings dating back centuries, yet the beachfront is lined by high-rises and Mexico’s usual palm-lined malecon.

Puerto Vallarta

Our third pick is, surprise, another Pacific gem: Puerto Vallarta has zero sargassum this summer.

On the other hand, it is teeming with life and activity, with trendy bars that overflow with young, sociable tourists, and an upscale, well-frequented boardwalk leading to one of Mexico’s most scenic beaches.

The heart of town is the Bohemian Zona Romantica, where most of the entertainment venues and winding cobbled streets are, as well as the beautiful traditional architectural and landmark buildings, such as the magnificent Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Beaches in PV (as it is known in its short term) may be protected against the invading seaweed, but that’s not to say they are perfectly serene.

Beach conditions can vary day to day, where one day might be perfect and the next may have undercurrents ready to wash you away. Travelers are being urged to be more cautious when swimming in the area, as there may be strong undercurrents.

Regrettably, there have been some casualties lately, especially tourists who are not fully aware of the risks, or who choose to ignore the black and red flags perched on the sands.

Isla Mujeres

We know what you’re thinking.

Isla Mujeres is a Caribbean destination, so it can’t possibly be free of sargassum at the peak of seaweed season when, well, the Caribbean is the most heavily affected sea… right?

We’re glad to report that’s a common misconception, as despite the Caribbean’s long-standing issue with the smelly algae, Isla Mujeres in particular is largely cordoned off due to its strategic geographical location.

Much of the sargassum that will batter the mainland coast will generally miss Mujeres altogether, as it the ocean currents that pass the island do not carry the seaweed, the small amount that does make landfall is a lot less noticeable.

Additionally, Isla Mujeres is a tiny island, only 4.3 miles long and 2,130 feet wide, meaning beaches do not extend for miles on end as far as the eyes can see, and there’s not a lot of cleaning to do every morning following whatever moderate overnight arrival of sargassum.

Proudly holding the title of ‘safest city in Mexico‘, Merida is perfect for those who want to ease into Mexico if they have any hesitations regarding tourist safety.

Choosing between Playa Norte, Sisel, and Progreso to spend your beach days is a coin flip, but one unsuspecting beach is the Yucatan’s best kept secret.

Quintana Roo

Now on to Level 2 – Quintana Roo is home to Mexico’s most popular beach vacation hotspots. Of course, the best of the best is the iconic beach city if Cancun.

A staple for vacationers for decades, Cancun is always reliable, always safe for tourists, and checks off all the boxes for a dreamy getaway.

Factor in surrounding trendy beach destinations, such as Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, among others, there is perhaps no better place in Mexico to find your niche.

As the Maya Train continues to expand operations, the region is more accessible than ever before!

Baja California Sur

Just the word “Baja” seems to invoke instant bliss, knowing that places like Los Cabos exist for us to escape to.

The southernmost point of Baja lies Mexico’s most luxurious beach destination, Los Cabos. Lined with picture-perfect resorts with all the all-inclusive amenities you could want, it simply doesn’t get much better.

And even as party-centric as Cabo can be, the mega-popular vacation spot remains safe for tourists.

Los Cabos is the biggest draw for southern Baja, but tranquil coastal cities like La Paz and delightful small beach towns like Todos Santos are making a name for themselves as well.

Oaxaca

Oaxaca is a vastly cultural city and state of the same name, but the state’s beaches are where its natural beauty shines through.

Both the city and beaches are major hubs for digital nomads.

The coastal city of Puerto Escondido has soared in popularity with remote workers, which speaks volumes since digital nomads don’t exactly seek out unsafe places to call home.

The state of Oaxaca is stunning and you can’t go wrong visiting Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, or the smaller lesser-known gems dispersed along the coast.

Veracruz

Veracruz is a great example of why Mexico should be given more of a chance to prove mainstream news wrong.

In fact, it’s well on its way in doing so as the port city has surged in popularity. Despite some minor nuisances, Veracruz is very safe for tourists.

Tourists love exploring the centuries-old streets lined with colonial architecture, but Veracruz also has nice beaches within close reach.

Roughly 20 minutes away lies miles of sandy beaches along the Costa Esmerelda, including scenic islands to visit just off-shore.

Nayarit

The state of Nayarit is home to a 200-mile long stretch of coastline that has caught the attention of beach lovers.

As one of the trendiest destinations in Mexico this year, seemingly endless beaches are obviously a huge reason for that.

Safety plays a huge factor, too.

Although Puerto Vallarta is technically in the state of Jalisco, given its popularity and close distance to Nayarit, it’s fair to add this mega-popular beach city to the equation as one of the safest in Mexico.

Kayak’s “Best Time To Travel” tool is an algorithm that takes all of the platform’s data into account to determine when certain places can be enjoyed best, and based on a combination of factors, including pricing, weather, and overall enjoyment, spring is the perfect season to discover the many wonders of Puerto Vallarta.

There’s No Cheapest Time To Fly To Puerto Vallarta

You don’t have to consider yourself a budget-conscious traveler to appreciate a good deal – and that’s exactly what you’ll get if you schedule your Puerto Vallarta trip this spring.

According to Skyscanner, March is the cheapest time to fly from the U.S. to Puerto Vallarta, followed by May and April, in that order.

Return tickets booked during these months start at $225, which is roughly $100 less than what you’d pay during peak season (right around the winter holidays).

Hotels and short-term rentals in the city are pretty reasonably priced this time of year, too.

The average daily rate hovers around $140, but some stays can go for as low as $72.

While not dirt cheap, this is still pretty good, considering you’re planning a dreamy beach vacation in Mexico.

The Weather Is Impeccable

Low prices aren’t enough to convince even the stingiest travelers, especially when that means going during a time of dreadful weather.

Luckily, that couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to visiting Puerto Vallarta in spring.

In these upcoming months, the climate in the city will be impeccable – sunny, dry, and with temperatures that hover around the comfortable mid-70s to mid-80s.

Remember, though, that the gentle sea breeze that keeps you from overheating throughout the day can get a bit chilly at night, so bringing a shawl or light jacket along for those late-night seaside strolls is always a good idea.

Explore The Wonders Of Puerto Vallarta Crowd-Free

If you’re anything like me, even a visit to the most stunning destination on Earth will end up feeling stressful if you’re surrounded by hundreds of other people invading your personal space every step you take.

That’s why timing your Puerto Vallarta visit to coincide with the later spring months can end up being the best decision you can make for that quiet, crowd-free experience you’ve been seeking.

In this case, however, March is out of the question since it’s one of the most popular months of the year to visit the Mexican hub (along with December).

Come April, though, the tourist crowds die down and you’ll be able to experience the long soft-sanded beaches, gorgeous Old Town, and colorful Malecón completely unbothered – not to mention restaurant lines get cut in half.

It’s that time of year again–the days are getting longer, you start to smell spring in the air, and all of your coworkers are talking about their spring break travel plans.

Vacation rental marketplace Home2Go just released its annual Beach Index.

Using search data, this index was compiled by prioritizing the destinations with the best weather, the least searches on Google for “spring travel” (hello less crowds), and affordable accommodation prices.

We present to you the five most underrated beach destinations in the U.S.:

Sombrero Beach, Marathon, Florida

While Florida may be one of the most popular spots for Americans on holiday, there are still some places here that feel like a secret.

Sombrero Beach in Marathon, a small island community between Key Largo and Key West, is one of these hidden treasures.

This stretch of paradise is a place that attracts mostly Floridians, and you’re likely to have more breathing room to replenish with its natural beauty.

Boasting clear turquoise waters and powdery soft sand, this beach is one of the best in the Keys.

Outside of playing in the ocean, Marathon has plenty to offer visitors, including The Turtle Hospital and Dolphin Research Center–both of which offer tours.

Adventure lovers will find excellent diving and snorkeling opportunities among the reefs, and Marathon Beach is also well known for its world-class fishing.

Boca Chica Beach, Boca Chica Village, Texas

When we start talking about Texas, your mind may go to rodeos and trendy Austin, but this mega-state is home to some pretty incredible beaches as well.

If you’re like me and crave long, desolate stretches of sand and shore over the beaches commercialized with resorts and bars, then Boca Chica Beach is the place for you.

You won’t find restaurants, hotels, or even restroom facilities here, only miles of pristine nature and emerald waters.

This is the perfect place to escape civilization and recharge in nature.

Boca Chica Beach has excellent birdwatching, mangrove orchards, and if you’re lucky you’l even spot some turtles nesting during the spring and summer months.

It also happens that this area is home to Elon Musk’s SpaceX Center; if you’re looking for a unique activity, you can head over and check out the rockets for yourself.

While I did not find an exact official date yet, there is predicted to be another launch in March of 2024!

Saint George Island State Park, Saint George Florida

Located on a barrier island off of Florida’s “forgotten coast”, you’ll find peaceful stretches of empty sand and waves here instead of high rises.

Saint George Island remains relatively undeveloped despite consistently being rated as one of the best beaches in America.

This park has a classically beautiful beach, fishing opportunities, and top-notch places to snorkel and scuba dive.

Once the sun goes down, you can take advantage of the dark sky here and stargaze by the ocean.

St George Island is a quaint island town with a laid-back atmosphere and plentiful restaurants with great fresh seafood options to try.

Surfside Beach, Surfside Texas

Located just an hour outside of Houston, this quiet beach town is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Surfside Beach has warm water from the Gulf of Mexico and plenty of waves to play in.

In fact, this lesser-known spot is one of the best places for surfing in Texas.

This sleepy Texas town lacks commercial hotels, and is best defined by its colorful beach houses available to rent from locals on Vrbo or Airbnb.

Gulf Shores Beach, Gulf Shores Alabama

When it comes to dreamy travel destinations in the U.S., Alabama may not have been a state that you thought had much to offer.

But Gulf Shores Alabama will pleasantly surprise you–with miles of sugary white beaches, award winning restaurants, and plenty to do, this Southern gem may just be your new favorite escape.

While the town’s highlight is definitely its glittering coastline, you can also explore the Civil War era Fort Morgan, take a dolphin spotting cruise, or spend the day fishing.

The New Maya Train Will Launch From Cancun To This Mega Popular Beach Town By The End Of February

The Maya Train has forever changed the way tourists approach travel in the Mexican Caribbean since launching last December.

In a way, it’s greatly diversified transportation options in the region, where taxi monopolies operate and local buses cannot always be trusted to be on time.

Prior to the launch, we expected all lines to open simultaneously, but as you should know by now if you’ve visited Mexico since, that did not materialize.

Thanks to construction delays, the train is being inaugurated in steps, and service from Cancun to Palenque is the only one available.

Luckily, some progress is being made, and starting February 29, a second line will be added to the Maya Train, linking Cancun to this mega-popular beach town:

A Beautiful Laid-Back Town In The Caribbean

Playa Del Carmen is one of the trendiest destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.

Located only an hour south of Cancun, it is traditionally seen as a more laid-back alternative to the bustling resort city that captures nearly half of all foreign arrivals to the country.

While Cancun’s greatest strength is its all-inclusive, family-friendly resorts, Playa’s appeal lies in a youthful, full-of-character beachfront, with its hippy markets and a myriad of casual beach bars and well-frequented discotecas catering to a more diverse audience.

If you’re hoping to meet like-minded travelers or locals and chat over cheap drinks in an internationalized, safe environment, or simply relax on the white sands as you sip on some fresh coconut and admire the tropical view, this is the place to be.

Playa’s days as a quaint settlement on the shores of the Caribbean may be long gone since the first luxury resorts and American expats arrived some decades ago, but as it is much smaller than Cancun – 304,942 permanent residents against 888,797 – it can feel less chaotic.

With the exception of Quinta Avenida, the main pedestrian thoroughfare and busiest street in town, lined by restaurants, quirky art galleries, and souvenir shops, the town is relatively quiet, with verdant residential areas and endless miles of coast begging to be discovered.

Some of the top attractions in Playa are Parque Fundadores’ Mayan Portal, possibly the most beautiful gateway to a beach you’ll ever see, the club-packed Calle 10, your nightlife spot after sundown, and Mamitas Beach, where the white sands unfold along a turquoise ocean.

Why Is The Maya Train To Playa Del Carmen Delayed?

Seeing it is one of the trendiest spots in the Mexican Caribbean, it’s no surprise it’s been added to the Maya Train railway map, but like many Playa-bound travelers, we were negatively surprised late last year upon learning the route wasn’t opening as planned in time for the tourist season.

Since December, the only service available is westbound, traveling towards Merida, then down to San Francisco de Campeche, two of the most traditional colonial cities in Mexico, before terminating in Palenque, the furthest stop from Cancun.

Strangely enough, the most highly-anticipated route, the one traveling along the southeast coast of Yucatan, calling at the nearby leisure destinations of Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen itself, Tulum, and many more gorgeous beach zones, did not launch this winter.

We know as well as you do that waiting for ADO inter-municipal buses that may, or may not depart on time, or booking overpriced private transfers from Cancun International Airport can cause a lot of stress, especially when you’ve flown all the way to sunny Mexico for a relaxing vacation.

The train is set to make multi-destination trips across the Mexican Caribbean easier and safer to plan, as trains typically run on time, and the Maya Train in particular has been touted as one of the safest transportation modes in the world.

Regrettably, the wait has been longer than predicted, and this has led to some confusion among regular tourists who do not follow every single Maya Train development daily, and landed in Cancun only to find out some rail links are still unavailable.

From February 29, the long-delayed line is finally opening, at least partially.

On The Downside…

From this date onward, the train will depart from Cancun, calling at Puerto Morelos, before coming to a halt in Playa Del Carmen. For those hoping to continue the journey toward Tulum, however, the news isn’t nearly as exciting.

The other service was originally set to be up and running by June 2 at the earliest, coinciding with Mexico’s general elections, but as reported by local news outlets, a judge has ordered ‘stop‘ to an extension from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum.

The new blow to Maya Train enthusiasts comes after a number of environmental groups revealed cenotes and underground waters were being polluted as a result of the driving of pillars along the planned railway, and it’s unlikely construction will resume anytime soon.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) himself conceded ‘section 5 south’, namely the stretch from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum, is ‘one of the most challenging‘ due to the nature of the terrain, and pushbacks on the part of environmentalists.

For now, trains from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen are going ahead, with an inaugural journey set for later this month and complete operationalization this spring.

Why You Should Visit This Lesser Known Beach Town For A Laid-Back Winter Getaway

Mexico is every American’s go-to pick for a sunny winter getaway, what with the long miles of sandy coast, balmy weather, and irresistible tropical atmosphere.

However, not all Mexican destinations offer the relaxation they may be craving after another long, tiresome year.

Cancun has the luxurious resorts and award-winning hospitality, but it’s far from being quiet, Vallarta has won our hearts due to its charming Zona Romantica and lively social scene, but local beaches can get very crowded, and even peaceful Cabo is struggling to keep up with a surge in tourism lately.

Where, then, can U.S. travelers go that is still tourist-friendly but laid-back enough for it to be relaxing?

You should be thinking Todos Santos, one of the top 10 best places to visit in the peak of winter:

Why Todos Santos Should Be On Your Bucket List

Tripadvisor has recently named Todos Santos, a small beach town a short one-hour drive up the coast from Cabo San Lucas, one of the best destinations for a February vacation.

February is arguably the gloomiest month of the year, with either rain and dark clouds or snowfall landing hard on a number of Stateside areas.

It’s the time Americans typically feel the urge to escape to sunny Mexico at its strongest and when the budget-conscious tend to travel.

The peak season has passed, prices are fluctuating down, and the weather is not one bit colder.

In the case of Todos Santos, it ranges from 57 to 78 throughout February – nights are only moderately chilly – and there are plenty of sunshine hours to be enjoyed.

That’s not the only reason why this 6,485-people-strong municipality is trending on one of the most popular booking platforms: in case you weren’t aware before, it is one of the cultural centers of the Baja California Sur state, and a pueblo magico of the first order.

While Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo excel at hosting high-end travelers keen on splurging on all-inclusive stays, Todos Santos attracts a different kind of visitor: culture buffs enthusiastic about exploring Mexico on a deeper level, and small town lovers.

Todos Santos Is Perfect For Relaxing

Forget about that overdeveloped stretch of coast, the Americanized beach zones, and the glitz and glamor of the Waldorf next door: Todos Santos has retained much, if not all, of its native Mexican Pacific charm.

Yes, there are luxury hotels and spa facilities in the vicinity – this is a stone’s throw away from Latin America’s largest wellness hub, after all – but these are generally much smaller in size, falling into the ’boutique’ subcategory and they can be more affordable.

While an overnight in Cabo averages $600 in a best-case scenario, tourists can find cheaper stays in three-star hotels in downtown Todos Santos for only $151 a night this February, or if they’d like to add a touch of luxury to their sojourn, Guaycura Boutique Hotel is a solid pick.

Equipped with a beach club and spa, prices start from an acceptable $494. Higher than the Todos Santos average but considerably less expensive than Cabo’s soaring resort rates.

If you really want to ‘go for it’, the newest addition to the town’s growing portfolio is the self-describing Todos Santos Boutique Hotel, an ultra-exclusive, luxurious 10-room listing housed in a traditional historic property dating back to the 1890s. Rates range between $995 and $1,295.

As you can see, there’s something for every traveler in Todos Santos, irrespective of budget. On top of that, it is an incredibly picturesque town to be based in:

A Charming Colonial Center

Having been established by missionaries in the 18th century, it has a rich cultural tapestry, with a number of Spanish-built churches and a vibrant colonial center full of colorful houses.

If you’re an active Instagrammer, you’ll want to leave no stone unturned when exploring Todos Santos.

As for its historical value, the last battle of the Mexican-American War, triggered by the American annexation of Texas in the 1800s, was fought near the town, making it a mandatory pit stop on culture-based itineraries.

That being said, Todos Santos is not known exclusively for its cultural assets.

It has a number of hippie shops, quirky art galleries, and pristine beaches for both sunbathing and surfing.

Overall, it’s remarkably peaceful, enjoying low rates of crime, unlike sprawling urban centers.

Whale-watching is also an incredibly popular tour among tourists, with ocean safaris departing daily throughout winter when migration trends for the giant sea mammals are higher.

Finally, as it sits on the azure Pacific coast of Mexico, not the Caribbean side, Todos Santos is not affected by sargassum, the brown, foul-smelling seaweed that is already making a comeback to the Mayan Coast as early as February.

Sargassum is not commonly observed in the Pacific, as it requires warmer waters to proliferate, and whether you’re following Tripadvisor’s advice this February or visiting later in the year, rest assured those golden sands will always be spotless.
