Europe’s New Travel Pass Launches In 2026: The 5 Things Americans Need To Do Now To Be Ready

    [ad_1]

The last quarter of 2026 might sound like it’s a ways off, but in the world of travel planning, it’s right around the corner. If you’re already dreaming of that big European trip for late next year or 2027, you’re not alone. But there’s a new, mandatory step coming that savvy travelers are already preparing for.

After years of delays and confusion, the ETIAS travel pass has a firm deadline, and the countdown has officially begun.

Europe's New Travel Pass Launches In 2026 The 5 Things Americans Need To Do Now To Be Ready

Here at Travel Off Path, we’re all about giving you the intel to stay one step ahead. Forget the future panic; here are the 5 simple things you need to do now to be perfectly prepared for Europe’s new system.

Wondering if your favorite spot is on the list? Our final step below has the full rundown of all 30 countries that will require this new pass.

    1. Check Your Passport Expiration Date Right Now 🛂

This is the single most important and actionable tip on the list. An approved ETIAS will be valid for three years, or until your passport expires—whichever comes first.

A Traveler Holding A U.S. Passport At The Airport

Think about it: if you apply for your ETIAS with a passport that expires in one year, your ETIAS will also expire in one year. To get the absolute maximum value, you’ll want to apply with a passport that has at least three years of validity remaining.

The Pro Move: Check your passport’s expiration date today. If it’s set to expire in 2027 or 2028, consider renewing it in early 2026 before you apply for your first ETIAS. This simple step will lock in your travel authorization for the full three years.

    2. Bookmark The Official Website (And Ignore The Fakes)

As soon as the application portal goes live, the internet will be flooded with scammy, third-party websites trying to charge you exorbitant fees for the exact same service. Don’t fall for it.

    ETIAS offical Website

There will only be one official ETIAS website run by the European Union. While it’s not fully operational for applications yet, you should bookmark the official homepage now:

    • Here is the Official EU ETIAS Website link.
    • Save this link, and when the time comes, apply directly through the official source. It will save you money and protect your personal information.

    3. Know What ETIAS Isn’t

A lot of the panic around ETIAS comes from a simple misunderstanding. Let’s clear it up.

    Border-control-area-at-Italy-Airport
    • It’s NOT a visa. It’s a simple, online visa waiver, much like the ESTA for visiting the U.S. There are no embassy appointments or interviews.
    • It does NOT guarantee entry. You still need to go through passport control like always.
    • It’s NOT needed for the UK or Ireland. ETIAS is for the 30 countries in the Schengen Zone and its associated members. The United Kingdom and Ireland have their own separate entry rules.

    4. Add It To Your Mental Travel Budget

The good news is that the ETIAS is incredibly cheap. The application fee will be €7 (about $7.50 USD), and travelers under 18 or over 70 are exempt from paying.

Eiffel Tower or Tour Eiffel aerial view,

While it’s a small amount, it’s a new cost to factor in. The best way to think of it is like a new standard travel fee, similar to a checked bag fee or a city’s tourist tax. Just know that for any trip to the Schengen Zone from late 2026 onwards, this will be part of the plan.

    5. Know Which Countries Will Require The Pass

This is the most critical checklist item. Knowing where you’ll need the pass is key to a smooth trip. The ETIAS will be required for entry into the following 30 countries:

Vibrant half-timber homes in Bacharach, Germany

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

    Are You Ready For ETIAS?

Europe’s new travel pass is coming. Take this 5-question quiz to see if you’re prepared for the new rules.

    Question 1 of 5

To get the most value from your ETIAS, what’s the smartest move with your passport?

Correct! Thinking ahead like a savvy traveler to maximize the 3-year validity.

🤔 Not quite! The smartest move is to renew your passport so it’s valid for at least 3 years, matching the ETIAS validity.

    Question 2 of 5

Where is the ONLY safe place to apply for your ETIAS?

Exactly! Only the official EU site is safe. Many scam sites will appear, so be careful.

🤔 Not quite! Scammers will create fake sites. The only safe place will be the single official EU website.

    Question 3 of 5

Which of these statements is TRUE about the ETIAS?

Correct! It’s a simple travel authorization, not a visa and not a guarantee of entry.

🤔 Not quite! The most important thing to remember is that ETIAS is a simple travel authorization, not a visa.

    Question 4 of 5

How much will the ETIAS application cost for most adults?

Correct! The good news is it’s very affordable at only €7 (about $7.50).

🤔 Not quite! The good news is it’s very affordable, at only about $7.50. The correct answer is highlighted above.

    Question 5 of 5

Which popular European destination will NOT require an ETIAS?

Correct! Important: The UK has its own, separate Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) that Americans now need.

🤔 Not quite! Important: The UK is the correct answer, and it has its own, separate Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) that Americans now need.

    You’re an ETIAS Expert!

You’ve got a perfect handle on the new rules. But remember, requirements can change. Always do a final check before you fly!

Navigating the world of entry rules can be a headache, but it doesn’t have to be. To stay on top of this and any other changes, the best tool is our 1 Minute Trip Check, which gives you the real-time entry requirements for any destination.

Looking to continue your digital nomad adventure without breaking the bank?

Europe is an incredible place for digital nomads, but it can also be a pricey place to live.

But that’s all set to change as one of the cheapest countries in the world has launched a digital nomad visa.

Digital nomad visas are so important for digital nomads, giving them an official opportunity to stay in the countries they love for longer than they could on a regular tourist visa.

    So this is big news!

Here’s what you need to know about this exciting new digital nomad visa from one of the cheapest countries in the world — Turkiye:

    What Are The Requirements?

Like all digital nomad visas, you will have to jump through a few hoops to secure this new visa in Turkiye. These include:

    • Having an employment or business contract that proves you are a digital nomad with a steady source of income.
    • Demonstrating a monthly income of at least $3,000 (or an annual income of $36,000).
    • Being between the ages of 21-55.

One unusual requirement of Türkiye’s digital nomad visa that isn’t needed in most other European countries is that applicants will need to hold a university degree.

    Türkiye’s Digital Nomad Visa

A digital nomad visa from Turkiye is great news for digital nomads from the USA, Canada, UK, and EU, who are all eligible to apply.

The Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry is poised for so many applicants that they have launched a dedicated website where digital nomads can apply for this new visa.

You can complete your application online and from anywhere in the world, but you will have to visit your nearest Turkish embassy to collect your work permit and visa once it’s been granted.

If you’re already in Turkey, then you can apply online and register with the nearest local police department in the county.

We don’t know how long the application will take because this visa is so new, but the fast online application process is good news for nomads who don’t want to spend their days filling in paperwork.

Türkiye’s Best Spots For Digital Nomads

Turkiye is an incredible country with a wide range of diverse landscapes and experiences.

Whether you’re looking to work in a bustling city, sit with your laptop on the beach, or find your own country retreat, you can find it all in Türkiye.

Istanbul is the most popular spot for both tourists and digital nomads in the country.

This mega-city, which is home to more than 20 million people and is located on two continents, is a must-see for all travelers.

Eating out is incredibly cheap here, and many of the best attractions in the city are free. Accommodation is also much lower in Istanbul than the European average.

In fact, Istanbul has a reputation for being one of the most affordable cities in Europe, so if you want all the bustle and activity of city life without the pressure on your bank account, this is a great place to be.

    Attracting Digital Nomads

Other Turkish destinations that the Turkish government is keen to promote as part of their drive to attract digital nomads include Dalaman, Izmir, Marmaris, Bodrum, Antalya, and Fethiye.

Most of these are coastal locations, and attracting digital nomads year-round would help to boost the economy and promote these regions as 24/7 destinations, especially during the winter months when tourist footfall typically slows down.

    aegean sea, bodrum, turkey

Turkiye already has a strong infrastructure in place for digital nomads, including fast and reliable internet access, a host of cafes and working spaces for digital nomads to get to work, and great transport connections across the country too.

What’s more, getting to Türkiye is easy.

Türkiye has a total of 35 airports with international links, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where in this beautiful country you want to call your short-term home.

United Airlines, one of the favorites for American travelers, just dropped some exciting news for those still planning out their trips in 2024.

So many cool places are already surging in popularity this year, but United is ready to take travelers across the skies and over oceans to some incredible destinations.

With the travel industry showing no signs of slowing down, more and more airlines are adding new routes to their networks.

For United, their route map is already jam-packed, but one popular city for Americans is being added for the first time in the airline’s history.

United Airlines Announces New Nonstop Flights to Marrakesh

Across the vast Atlantic is one of the best destinations to immerse yourself in out-of-body cultural experiences.

street market in streets of marrakesh

There is no U.S. city that comes even close to being comparable to the medieval city of Marrakesh, Morocco.

Beginning October 24th, Americans will be able to fly nonstop from Newark (EWR) and spend their days perusing mazes of alleyways and bustling souks and snapping photos of breathtaking architecture, such as the Koutoubia Mosque.

This new route will be the only direct U.S. flight to Marrakesh. Travelers can choose from three weekly flights on a Boeing 767-300ER plane.

However, tickets are not on sale just yet, but travelers are encouraged to continue checking United.com for updates!

Explore the City of Eternal Spring: Medellin with United

Colombia is super popular with travelers right now, but it does come with a mixed bag of reviews.

Depending on where you go, the country can be quite iffy when it comes to tourist safety, even resulting in a fairly recent security alert issued by the U.S. Embassy.

That being said, Medellin has long been a haven for expats, and even more so now that the digital nomad craze has taken over.

Given its warm climate, The ‘City of Eternal Spring’ is an awesome, affordable getaway any time of year to explore this scenic mountainous city.

Travelers will have to wait until October 27th to book a trip here with United, the airline’s first time ever venturing into Medellin.

The new flight will take off from Houston (IAH) with daily service. Tickets for this route are not yet on sale either.

United Airlines Announces New Nonstop Flights to Shanghai

Is 2024 the year Americans are ready to embrace China as one of the premiere destinations in Asia? Time will tell.

United is not the only airline heading back to one of the most iconic countries on the planet, but surely travelers will feel more comfortable taking one of their favorite carriers.

This new Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG) route is a reboot. For obvious reasons, it was shut down in recent years, but China is open for business again.

Despite travelers’ hesitations, the former popular route is now ready for a relaunch. Travelers can head to the vibrant bustling city of Shanghai with flight offerings four times per week beginning August 29th.

Unlike the other new routes, tickets are on sale already, and prices are a doozy! Round-trip Economy seats go between $1500 and $1700, while Business Class seats go upwards of $ 5,500.

Bonus: New Connection Route To Paradise

The Philippines is one of the most beautiful and affordable exotic getaways in Asia. Truth be told, more Americans have found their way there for its wondrous landscapes, safety, and minimal language barriers.

While the capital city of Manila is a worthwhile trip in its own right, a trip to the Philippines without visiting one of the country’s many stunning islands would be a real shame.

United has laser-focused on Cebu as the latest destination added to its network, but U.S. travelers will have to make a bit of a longer trek to reach it.

    remote beach in cebu

The official new route will begin July 31st from Tokyo (NRT) to Cebu (CEB) with daily flights on a 737-800 aircraft.

Americans can easily connect from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Newark, and Houston and arrive in paradise, where a bustling city and jaw-dropping beaches await.

Cebu is very affordable and is slowly but surely becoming more popular for digital nomads, and it’s easy to see why.

This narrow island stretches over 100 miles with gorgeous beaches dispersed across the coastline, and historic Cebu City itself, the former capital of the Philippines, is quite an underrated concrete jungle.

  • Amsterdam Launches ‘Stay Away’ Campaign To Deter These Types Of Tourists From Visiting

Amsterdam Launches ‘Stay Away’ Campaign To Deter These Types Of Tourists From Visiting

    [ad_1]

    Last Updated

Amsterdam will soon take measures to prevent certain types of tourists from visiting the city. The Dutch capital regularly sees upwards of 20 million tourists each year, making it one of Europe’s most popular destinations. The city’s liberal attitude towards sex, drugs, and alcohol has given it the reputation of a city where ‘anything goes. Tourists have taken advantage of that, and it has become problematic. Now, officials are attempting to take back the city for locals by telling some tourists to stay away.

an overhead photo of massive crowds of tourists along the canals in Amsterdam. Boats can bee seen in the canals

Amsterdam’s deputy Mayor Sofyan Mbarki has stressed the need to intervene. “Action is needed to prevent nuisance and overcrowding. Amsterdam is a world city, and bustle and liveliness come along with this, but to keep our city liveable, we need to choose limits instead of irresponsible growth.”

crowds of tourists gather in Amsterdam at night surrounded by neon signs and streetlights

The problem, as seen by officials, is that the activities of tourists are lowering the quality of life for residents. Amsterdam attracts many tourists wanting to partake in activities often deemed unsavory in their home countries. Their behavior often spills from the coffee shops and clubs into the streets causing an unpleasant living environment for locals.

Top 5 Travel Insurance Plans For 2023 Starting At $10 Per Week

tourists visit a large square in Amsterdam underneath a sky full of clouds and birds

That combined with the sheer number of visitors who flock to the city has created a unique problem. Amsterdam is suffering from too many tourists, specifically too many of the types of tourists that they don’t want. In response, Amsterdam’s officials are launching a campaign, bluntly named ‘Stay Away,’ to make it clear who is unwelcome in the city.

In the spring of 2023 the ‘Stay Away’ campaign will attempt to curtail tourist numbers by disincentivizing many popular activities. The goal is to keep out the following types of tourists:

Tourists sit along a canal in Amsterdam with red lights glowing along the buildings as evening approaches

    Cannabis And Drug Tourists

Amsterdam is famous for its coffee shops that allow customers to purchase and consume cannabis and other “soft drugs”. The cafés are so popular that in the city center alone there are 92! According to research, half of all tourists to Amsterdam plan to visit a coffee shop during their travels. 16% of visitors state that it is the main reason for their visit to Amsterdam.

Smokey cannabis coffee shop in Amsterdam is a popular tourist destination

To keep cannabis and drug tourists away the city has made some proposals. Regulations could include a ban on smoking cannabis on the street in tourist areas. Measures could even extend to banning sales of the popular drug in the red light district on weekend nights.

    Batchelor Parties And Drunk Tourists

The streets of Amsterdam are one of the most popular destinations for bachelor parties in Europe. The city’s famed Red Light District is home to a lively bar scene and an accessible sex industry. Revolving groups of young men frequent the city with the expectation that they will have the time of their lives and often wreak havoc on the streets with their drunken debauchery which can get out of hand.

    alcohol sign in amsterdam

The city plans to dissuade these types of tourists by mandating earlier closing times for bars and brothels, and by outlawing organized pub crawls.

    Sex Tourists

Prostitution is legal in Amsterdam and has been regulated by the Dutch government for over 20 years. That has made the city an international destination for sex tourism, which in turn has created a booming sex industry. Brothels, peep shows, strip clubs, and sex shops can be found all over the Red Light District.

Officials hope that plans for earlier closing times and restrictions on businesses within the Red Light District will let sex tourists know that they are no longer wanted in the city.

    Too Many Tourists

In addition to discouraging the types of tourists that are unwanted, Amsterdam’s officials are also taking measures to combat over tourism. They are seeking to limit visitor numbers to 20 million by imposing a tourist cap. They also want to limit the city’s popular river cruises and guided group tours, tighten rules around short-term rentals, and potentially impose a tourist tax.

Amsterdam canals full of boats and people in orange during the celebration of kings day

While official plans won’t be determined until next week, the ‘Stay Away’ campaign is sure to make some tourists feel unwelcome.

What Type Of Tourists Are Welcome?

Tourists are still welcome in Amsterdam, however, these measures are meant to find a balance between tourism and the day-to-day lives of locals. Officials want to find a way for tourism to contribute positively to the city rather than undermining it. The goal is to bring in the right amount of tourists who can appreciate Amsterdam for its beauty, people, and unique cultural attractions.

  • Princess Cruises Announces New Bids For Cabin Upgrades And Norwegian Launches 40% Off Sale

Princess Cruises Announces New Bids For Cabin Upgrades And Norwegian Launches 40% Off Sale

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

Two major cruise companies have been applying different strategies to stay competitive in the cruise market and here’s what travelers should know.

Princess Cruises —the American cruise line owned by the Carnival Corporation— just introduced a new bidding program. The company will allow guests to bid for cabin upgrades on selected cruise ships starting September 6.

Norwegian Cruise Line, on the other hand, is currently offering 40% off all cruises and fly-cruises until August 22. The offer applies for all accommodations and includes routes like the Canary Islands from November 2022, inactive since 2017.

Both companies are offering great deals for cruise lovers, but there are a few details travelers should consider.

    Princess New Bidding Program

A few weeks ago, Princess Cruises announced 47 itineraries for 2023 and 2024 and now the company is offering passengers the possibility to travel more comfortably with a new bidding system.

The new bidding program will allow guests to upgrade to a cabin with an ocean view, a balcony, a deluxe balcony, a mini-suite, or a full suite. Depending on their budget, travelers will get to submit an offer from a certain price point.

John Padgett, Princess President, said: “Upgrading is a popular request from our guests and we’re pleased to deliver a process that lets them improve their stateroom category by making an offer that fits their budget and lifestyle.”

According to the information shared by Cruise Hive, guests will receive an email with an invitation to participate. Bids will be priced per person, but the stateroom will be available for two guests. After sending their bids, participants will receive another email informing if their bid has been accepted and they get the upgrade or if it was denied and they just stay at their original stateroom.

The new stateroom upgrade system will be implemented on five cruises that sail from the US first: Regal Princess, Ruby Princess, Caribbean Princess, Discovery Princess, and Enchanted Princess. By October, Princess Cruise Line expects to apply this system to all of its fleets.

The company is making its cruise experience more pleasant for travelers and finding strategies to create more inclusive programs. The cruise line also recently updated COVID-19 protocols and has removed vaccine requirements for most itineraries.

    Norwegian’s 40% Discount

Travelers must act fast if they want to take advantage of this promotion. Those who have been thinking about sailing could have a great opportunity to book an itinerary at a great price. Norwegian’s 40% discount applies for all destinations until next Monday.

The company has also included its “Free at Sea” upgrade package —which costs around $175— and offers travelers great advantages like free wifi, free guided tours, unlimited drinks, and more.

Norwegian Cruise currently has itineraries in Alaska, across the Caribbean, and the Mediterranian Sea. The vessel Norwegian Sun currently has 8 to 14 days itineraries that include the Canaries and stops at Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. Norwegian Prima, another great ship from this cruise line, has itineraries in 2023 that include transatlantic sailing from New York to Reykjavik, Iceland.

The cruise line is also offering travelers airfare credit, up to $300 per person on selected routes in Europe. All these promotions will be available until next Monday.

    Competitive Cruise Lines

Woman Facing Cruise Ship From Dock

Travelers must decide which promotion is a better fit for their travel plans. And while the cruise industry seems to be going “back to normal” with fewer COVID-19 restrictions and more sailing routes available, Princes Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line have also recently canceled sailings.

Just a few days ago, Princess Cruises canceled 11 itineraries due to staff shortage, labeled  “labor challenges” by the company. And this week, Norwegian Cruise Line canceled sailings planned for 2023 and 2024 due to supply chain delays. Both companies have offered compensation for customers, but might be an important factor to consider when choosing a cruise line service and promotion.

New Ultra Low Cost Airline Launches Caribbean Flights Starting At $55

The first restriction-free summer may not have gone entirely according to plan, as an overwhelming surge in demand led to a capacity strain in numerous airports and airfares increased in response, but there might be a silver lining as we slowly approach the fall. In case you haven’t heard, an ultra-low cost airline is launching in September, and it looks set to give Spirit, JetBlue and the like a run for their money.

Aerial View Of The Dominican Republic, Caribbean Sea

Ever imagined flying all the way to the teal-colored waters of the Caribbean for (far) less than your weekly grocery expenses? More specifically, for only $55? We know it’s difficult to believe, especially at a time when travel costs are exorbitant, but this will soon be a reality when Arajet, the Dominican Republic’s new carrier, finally enters the market:

Meet Arajet, The Caribbean’s First Official Low Cost Carrier

Catalina Island, Dominican Republic, Caribbean Sea

In exciting news for Caribbean enthusiasts, Arajet is finally operating its inaugural flight from its base in Santo Domingo to Mexico City on September 15, connecting the Hispaniola nation to one of the America’s busiest international hubs. Initially, Mexicans and Americans living south of the border will be the main beneficiaries of Arajet’s historically low fares, but expansion is already underway.

Following Santo Domingo-Mexico City route debut, Arajet has big plans for the remainder of the season. Those include, naturally, adding flights to the United States and Canada, two of the Dominican Republic’s strongest markets. Within the next few months, North Americans will be able to fly to Santo Domingo paying as little as $55 one-way, or $149 round-trip.

Young Female Tourist Walking On The Beach In The Dominican Republic, Caribbean Sea

The ultra affordable fees can be attributed to Arajet’s choice of deploying the new ‘state-of-the-art’ Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft. As Business Wire states, they’re much more environmentally friendly and consume 14% less fuel. In other words, the airline will be able to cut down on all-time high fuel expenses, and subsequently ‘pass those savings on’ to customers.

As it was expected, the lowest possible fares do not automatically grant passengers the right to bring hold luggage on board, nor feature additional in-flight entertainment. Those can be added for a fee, but on the bright side, taxes are already included in the price breakdown. This means that, when booking tickets on Arajet.com, customers will not be tricked into paying more due to hidden fees.

Young Female Traveler Booking An Airplane Ticket While Planning A Trip, Flight Reservation Booking Concept

Which Destinations Is Arajet Serving In North America?

But when, exactly, are U.S./Canada flights launching?

According to the Arajet schedule, service from both Toronto and Montreal in Canada will be available from October, while ‘additional’ flights to the States will be added ‘in the near future’. So far, the airline’s U.S. strategy remains a mystery, though it is safe to say it will face a fierce competition from America’s own economy carriers.

Passengers Transiting Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada

This year, Spirit led the way in launching 31 flight routes within and out of the U.S., further strengthening its position in the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic. Similarly, JetBlue is taking an aggressive stance, having announced its highly-anticipated winter sale as early as January, starting at only $29, and securing slots in all four major Dominican entry points, including Santo Domingo and Punta Cana.

If Arajet seeks consolidation in the U.S. market, it will have to rise up to the challenge. In a sense, this could very well mean a new fare war, as airlines battle it out for the most alluring offers and cheaper flight deals. One way or another, customers would come out as the definitive winners. At the end of the day, this depends on how successful Arajet’s entry into the Canadian market is in October.

Besides Canada and the U.S., Arajet is adding flights from Santo Domingo to destinations all around North, Central, and South America, including Mexico City and Monterrey, in Mexico, Lima, in Peru, St. Martin, Aruba and Curaçao in the Dutch Caribbean, Medellin and Bogota in Colombia and many more.

Historic Colonial Era Fortress In The Dominican Republic

In total, the company plans to widen its network in up to 20 destinations, in 12 different countries, only 3 months after the first Mexico City flight. According to CEO Victor Pacheco, Arajet signals the ‘rebirth’ of Dominican aviation, as it is projected to carry more than 7 million passengers ‘in approximately 5 years’.

Pacheco maintains that Arajet will help foster American connectivity ‘at the lowest fares’, being officially the first low-cost Caribbean-based airline, and by symbolizing the first step towards converting Las Americas International Airport, the Dominican Republic’s second busiest, into a ‘premier Latin-American air hub’.

Italy Launches Campaign To Promote 1000 Off The Beaten Path Destinations

Italy has become a very popular destination for summer vacations, especially for Americans. A recent report published by Airbnb revealed that US travelers are highly interested in visiting destinations like Venice, Capri, and Florence this year.

The Italian government is aware of the popularity of the country for international travelers, and —while it helps the nation overcome the pandemic and the Ukrainian war crisis— it’s also worried about overtoursim.

The Italian Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourism Board have recently worked together on a solution and launched a new campaign to promote spectacular off-the-beaten-path destinations.

“This was part of the strategic plan by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to better connect the well-known areas with those less known,” says Maria Elena Rossi, head of the tourism board, as reported by Euronews.

The new initiative is called “Viaggio Italiano” (Italian journey) and hopes to show travelers unpopular destinations with high tourism potential. This project has been described on the official website as “an unforgettable journey through villages, landscapes, paths, and foods”.

Over 1,000 fascinating villages, 100 landscapes, and 100 walking routes are being promoted with this new campaign. In the press release it was stated: “Today, Italy is more desired than ever. Precisely for this reason, it is the ideal moment to intercept visitors, Italian and non-Italians, through a clear and evocative insight: ‘A lifetime would not be enough to discover all of Italy”.

Now travelers have a fascinating guide created by experts to discover “the real Italy”, avoid large crowds, and still experience the fascinating Italian culture.

    Hidden Gems In Italy

The Italian government has developed a platform visitors can use to discover exotic and special landscapes. Users can try the interactive map and plan a route or use a filter to choose a destination within a specific region.

Travelers will discover charming short videos and even historic quotes related to the location. These are three examples of the fascinating destinations promoted on the website:

    Abruzzo: Not Just Mountains

According to the information featured, in this region Travelers will encounter friendly people and can learn about local ancient festivals. Visitors can also taste the delicious local wine and explore its rivers, coast and green mountains and meadows.

    Cinque Terre: In Liguria

In this string of five ancient coastal villages, travelers will find colorful houses, beautiful vineyards, and amazing views from the tops of the cliffs. The website states that nature has a “strong personality” here and visitors will feel happy walking on its paths.

La Valle Dei Templi, Selinunte: In Sicily

The valley of the temples offers visitors a fascinating archaeological landscape with Greek culture and aesthetics. Travelers will find powerful energy and a very Mediterranean charm. “Even after millennia, as products of ingenuity and spirituality impossible to be reduced to a simple ruin or a banal postcard image, but to be understood as a historical landscape that honors civilization.”

There is also a special category for the “Flavors of Italy” where travelers will find a guide explaining the traditional local dishes, routes with places to visit to taste original local food, and information about food and wine events.

For example, if a user wants to know more about food in the region of Puglia, the platform will display information about its wonderful olive oil and wines, details about traditional dishes like the “Panzerotti”, itineraries on the coast, and interesting facts about the “Due Mari wine fest di Taranto”, a gastronomical event in Taranto.

Those interested in trekking and cycling routes will also find valuable information. The Italian government has highlighted 100 amazing routes to promote “slow travel” and sustainable tourism. Travelers can discover Italy by exploring some of the featured paths like The Mining Route of Santa Barbara in a national park in Sardinia, with different routes that can be explored by walking, bike, or horse riding.

More information is available on the official website for the campaign viaggio.italia.it.

  • Airbnb Launches New Feature For Solo Travelers

Airbnb Launches New Feature For Solo Travelers

    [ad_1]

    Share The Article

    Last Updated

Solo travel is skyrocketing among all ages and large companies are looking to adapt to the growing trend. A few weeks ago the cruise line Oceania Cruises announced new cabins for solo travelers, and now Airbnb has developed a new feature for this type of traveler.

On Monday, the American company Airbnb announced a new safety product for solo travelers in a press release, an in-app feature that will help solo travelers have safe and secure experiences.

According to the information shared on the official website, the company noticed that in 2021 about 26% of nights booked were for solo travelers, and during the first quarter of 2022 that number has increased: over 50% of the nights registered for long-term stays were booked by solo travelers.

Airbnb stated: “As the ‘live anywhere’ phenomenon has taken off among people who are able to work remotely, our platform has become increasingly integral to solo travelers.”

One of the main concerns for solo travelers is safety, and that is why Airbnb’s Trust team has been working since 2021 on a new product to guarantee safe and secure experiences. This new feature is now available for English-speaking guests.

How The New Feature For Solo Travelers Works

The new feature for solo travelers will activate when a guest books a private or shared room. The specialized in-app experience, as Airbnb calls this new feature, will show the solo traveler “expert tips” to help them stay safe.

Solo travelers will now be able to share where they are staying and their reservation itinerary with family and friends. Trusted people will be able to see the address, check-in and check-out dates, and reservation codes.

After a guest has booked a room, the new feature will also provide automated prompts and help solo travelers ask relevant questions based on research and other travelers’ experiences in that location. “Is there anything I should know about the neighborhood?” and “will you be available if I need help during my stay” are two examples of the questions the app will tell travelers to ask their hosts.

With this strategy, they hope to build a safety net and encourage solo travelers to book comfortably: “Our hope is this new product will better equip solo travelers on Airbnb to be more informed travelers by getting their pre-trip questions answered, giving them a better understanding of their surroundings, and informing the important people in their lives about where they will be and for how long.”

The new in-app experience is only available in English, but Airbnb hopes to expand to other countries and languages soon. Another specialized experience for women is part of the company’s main concern, but for now, the new feature will be available for all solo travelers regardless of their gender identity.

    Airbnb’s New Updates And Features

Airbnb has been very active recently including new features to their app, sharing relevant travel data, and even making major updates to their platform. The company has recently included new buttons and categories for its over 6 million listings to provide more exciting and interesting options for travelers, such as the OMG homes.

Now that the pandemic is more under control and more travelers want to explore the world and work remotely, the company has been adapting to satisfy current travel needs. Airbnb has already heard and acted to satisfy remote workers’ needs and constantly updates COVID-related measures depending on local restrictions and worldwide health developments.

The current concern seems to be safety, so besides the new solo traveler feature, the company has also recently added a 24/7 safety line for travelers, a  Local Emergency Services in-app experience to reach emergency services locally—recently extended to 70 countries— and now users can also add an emergency contact to their profile to help the company reach out to a friend or family member in case of emergency.

  • Travel App Hopper Launches ‘Leave Hotel For Any Reason Option’

Travel App Hopper Launches ‘Leave Hotel For Any Reason Option’

Have you ever booked a hotel with high hopes, only to have them crushed on arrival? Popular travel app, Hopper, announced last week that they have added new products to their service, including a Leave For Any Reason option. The new option allows travelers to cancel their hotel booking for any reason at or after the check-in process. Travelers will then be able to secure a booking with a new hotel with all associated costs paid for by Hopper, provided the new hotel has the same star rating as the original.

    Man in Hotel Room

As the past few years have shown, nothing is certain. The added flexibility of being able to change travel plans has proven to be a valuable option. Hopper has taken notice and has added more services than just the new Leave for Any Reason option. A service previously only available for flight bookings, Cancel for Any Reason, has been added as an option when booking hotel rooms. This offers flexibility, though not as much as the Leave for Any Reason option. Cancel for Any Reason allows travelers to cancel their booking anytime before check-in for a 100% refund.

    Hotel Check In

Hopper has also added a product for rental cars that was previously only available on flights and hotel bookings, Price Freeze for Cars. This option allows travelers to lock in a car rental price for 21 days, giving travelers more time to decide. Hopper will pay up to $100 towards the new rate if the price goes up. Conversely, travelers will be able to pay at a lower rate if the price goes down. As car rental prices continue to climb, this could be an option that more travelers take advantage of this year.

    Car Rental Kiosks

For many travelers, flexibility is king. The new offerings from Hopper fit the bill for those that require more wiggle room in their travel plans. Perhaps the most interesting new option, and certainly the one that offers the most flexibility, is the Leave For Any Reason option. In order for the option to be viable for Hopper, it has to be priced low enough that travelers will purchase it and high enough to cover the costs of the travelers that end up using it. To get an idea of what kind of fees travelers can expect, a sample booking was completed at the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas for July 4th through the 8th.

All selections were made with the flexible traveler in mind, including the option to pay later. Trip insurance, Cancel For Any Reason, and Leave For Any Reason were all selected as options for the booking. With a room rate of $33 per night, the Cancel For Any Reason fee was $60, the Leave For Any Reason fee was an additional $36, and the trip insurance was $16.50.

Hopper Screen Shot Leave For Any Reason

In total, the additional fees for maximum flexibility added $112.50 to the booking. This brought the price of the entire booking to $442.21. This may seem a steep price to pay when expecting a trip to go according to plan, but many travelers are happy to pay the extra cost for peace of mind.

    Happy Family In Hotel Room

With the Leave For Any Reason option, Hopper means it. Reasons as small as wishing the room had a better view and noticing that the room isn’t clean enough were cited by Hopper as acceptable uses of the new option. Time will tell if they stick to this promise, but for now, it seems like a highly flexible cancellation service that truly does cover any reason.

Male Business Traveler Dragging Luggage Through Airport Terminals

With more and more countries opening up and dropping Covid-era rules, including the United States, travel plans are less likely to be affected by Covid. However, travel disruptions from staffing shortages and increased travel demand are factors that can still affect upcoming travel. Those who are worried about disruptions when making a booking may find that Hopper’s new products are worth the extra cost.
