That’s why The Washington Post recently released a list of the 12 most underrated places across the world where you can take in all the joys of travel without the overinflated prices and suffocating crowds.
Among some of Italy’s, Japan’s, and Mexico’s most gorgeous destinations, there was one North American city that stood out thanks to its natural allure, understated charm, and fantastic food scene.
Below, you’ll find just a couple of the reasons why Asheville, North Carolina is one of the most underrated travel hubs not only in the U.S. but the entire world.
The Understated Allure Of Asheville
Most of Asheville’s unmistakable charm lies in its unassuming beauty – a place that stuns you with its landscapes and cultural scene without ever coming off as pretentious.
Unlike the bustling metropolises where movement is never-ending and a symphony of traffic and police sirens follow your every move, Asheville gives visitors all of the perks of being in a mid-sized city without any of the chaos.
It, thus, comes as no shock that the North Carolina gem is a haven for artists who feel inspired by the region’s openness and beauty to create some truly breathtaking pieces, so if you’re ever in Asheville, exploring the local galleries and live events, mainly concentrated in the River Arts District, is a must.

When I said that there’s much more to Asheville than its artistic spirit, I meant it.

I’m here to tell you there’s nothing to worry about.

The North Carolina hub has often been nicknamed “the city of beer” thanks to the fact that here, you’ll find more breweries per capita than in any other place in the country – so beer lovers, this is your chance to shine.
Even if you’re not a beer expert by now, taking the Asheville Ale Trail will help you explore the city’s many, though all equally delicious brews – who knows, you might even find your next favorite drink.
